This case series demonstrates the effectiveness of the Hahnemannian individualized approach to the treatment of COVID-19. By the focused use of reliable strong characteristics (keynotes) of homeopathic medications, the results in moderate and severe cases are impressive. It is notable that many of the patients mentioned in this series were hospitalized and suffered significant pulmonary involvement of the disease as evidenced by radiological findings, while some had higher risk-associated comorbidities. Background: Alcohol dependence syndrome is one of the most common psychiatric disorders, second only to major depression. Alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) is a set of symptoms that occur when a heavy drinker suddenly stops or significantly reduces his/her alcohol intake. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the response to homoeopathic treatment in cases of acute alcohol withdrawal using the Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment Scale for Alcohol, Revised (CIWA-Ar). Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study. 53 patients with CIWA-Ar score >11 were enrolled in the study. The severity of alcohol dependence was assessed by using the Severity of Alcohol Dependence Questionnaire (SADQ) and alcohol withdrawal was assessed with CIWA-Ar. A senior psychiatrist was also involved in the assessment of CIWA-Ar scoring of the cases. All cases were carefully followed on a daily basis, until the total CIWA-Ar score became zero. Results: Out of the 53 cases chosen for the study, 32 cases were of moderate withdrawal and 21 cases were of severe withdrawal. A paired sample t test showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the Mean CIWA score (t=7.76, p<0.001) after 12 hours of treatment, with a mean difference of 5.96±5.59 with CI (4.42,7.5). Among the 53 cases, Delirium Tremens (DTs) was present in 12 (22.6%) cases. Seizures were absent in all 53 cases and all cases were treated only by homoeopathic medications and method. Homoeopathic medications used and found to be effective were Arsenicum album, Ranunculus bulbosus, Nux vomica and Sulphur. All cases completed the stipulated follow-up period and no cases were referred out due to adverse drug reactions. Conclusion: This retrospective cohort study demonstrates that homoeopathic medications were found to be effective in the safe management of Acute Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome. During the current pandemic of COVID-19, the medical fraternity, pharmaceutical giants, governments and policy makers are figuring out ways to diagnose and control its spread in the absence of any known regular treatment protocol. All orthodox medicine can offer at this point is supportive care and mechanical ventilation in severe, life threatening disease (except possibly for remdesivir).1 The escalating medical cost for providing medical care to an ever increasing number of patients is proving to be a challenge. Furthermore, to date, there is no documented proof of any vaccine preventing an epidemic from happening, nor is there any data supporting its efficacy in recovering from one.2 In fact, a leading world health expert has recently suggested that there may never be an effective vaccine against COVID-19.3 Homoeopathy, however, has withstood the test of time as an efficacious approach in controlling morbidity as well as mortality in epidemics with its cost-effective medications. Individualised homoeopathic therapy and/or finding the genius epidemicus for this particular pandemic, based on the characteristics of this epidemic, can provide both therapeutic and prophylactic support for the public. Unfortunately, a lack of cohesiveness amongst the homoeopathic fraternity and failure to adhere to our fundamental principles, creates diverse approaches which confuses the public and invites ridicule from conventional medical practitioners. This article highlights the twin tragedies: the first caused by the epidemic, and the second caused to the public by denying them access to safe and effective homoeopathic treatment, despite a substantive pool of published data supporting its use in epidemics. Background: Substance abuse disorder is a medical condition whereby the use of one or more psychoactive drugs leads to a clinically significant impairment or distress to the individual's physical, mental and social health. Aim: To evaluate retrospectively the effects of Homeopathic treatment on patients who consulted us in primary health centres primarily for, or were found during clinical evaluation to be suffering from, substance abuse disorder. Material and method: The records of thirteen patients suffering from substance abuse disorder who consulted us between September 1999 and March 2019 were evaluated retrospectively. They had received individualized classical Homeopathic treatment based on their symptom picture and were followed for a period ranging between 6 months and 8 years. Results: 92.31% responded to the individualized Homeopathic treatment; 69.24% of patients showed a sustained remission; 15.38% relapsed after staying sober for more than two years; 7.69% relapsed after 3 months and died; 7.69% dropped out, citing slow response. Conclusion: Homeopathic treatment produced significant improvement in QoL with substance abuse disorder through individualized classical prescribing.
