Polyurethanes have been extensively studied for their strong electromechanical response. Previous studies have mainly investigated the impact of electrical charges on these polymers' DC conductivity, which was measured on the order of 10−10 S/m. The movement of electric charges is responsible for the macroscopic deformation of polymer films under an electric field. However, this study focused primarily on electric fields below 107 V/m, where the electric current complies with Ohm's law. In this paper, we examine the electric current above this field value and observe a deviation in the current from linearity with the applied field, especially for a high electric field of 106–107 V/m. This change is known in polymers under high electric fields but has never been observed in polyurethane. This suggests the injection of electrode charges into the polymer material. A series of (Gd, Y, Yb, Tb, Ce)3Al2Ga3O12 compositionally disordered compounds with a garnet structure were prepared in the form of ceramics by sintering in oxygen at 1650 °C for 2 h and studied for the luminescent properties and interaction of ions entering the matrix host. The luminescence features of Ce3+ ions were found to be strongly dependent on the Yb concentration. Photoluminescence and scintillation kinetics are characterized by subnanosecond kinetics when the Yb index in the compound exceeds X = 0.3. It opens an opportunity to create an extremely fast and dense scintillation material emitting in a visible range. A further decrease in the Yb index in the compound leads to an increase in the intensity of Yb3+ infrared (IR) emission, whereas Ce3+ and Tb3+ ions contribute to the luminosity of the material by overlapping intra- and intereconfiguration luminescence bands in the spectral range of 300–700 nm. This finding opens an opportunity to create converter materials tolerant to the corpuscular radiation of isotope sources, providing a high efficiency of electric current production when coupled with a silicon photovoltaic element. A non-destructive method for detecting sub-micrometer-sized micropipes on an entire wafer surface is investigated. Since it is difficult to detect sub-micrometer-sized micropipes due to their small core size, a non-destructively and accurately detecting method is required. To solve the issue, we focus on a characteristic depression generated around micropipes, namely, line-shaped depressions. In this paper, the location of line-shaped depressions is identified by using optical inspection, and the line-shaped depressions are distinguished whether micropipes exhibit line-shaped depression or not by using mirror electron microscope observation as high-resolution inspection. The accuracy of the distinction results is confirmed by scanning electron microscope observation, and electrical characteristics of the P–N diode are fabricated using the inspected wafer. Furthermore, the sub-micrometer-sized micropipes are observed at the sites of leakage current identified by emission microscopy. Additionally, device simulation of the blocking-voltage characteristics of P–N diodes suggests that the increase in leakage current depends on the electric field at the sub-micrometer-sized micropipes, regardless of their core size. Unlike popular multiband antenna array radiation based on either electric or magnetic surface currents, the use of mutually interleaved and tightly coupled electric and magnetic currents results in an aperture-reuse space-efficient multiband radiating surface for highly integrated antenna-frontend architecture and spatial power combining design scenarios. In this work, slot and dipole modes corresponding to magnetic and electric currents are effectively interleaved and excited in a surface to develop a space-efficient dual-wideband aperture-shared radiating surface. In this case, due to an effective reuse of the antenna aperture over both frequency bands, a high aperture-reuse efficiency is achieved. First, we devise a planar magneto-electric (ME)-dipole-alike antenna and analyze it in both the frequency and time domain. The antenna is then studied by the characteristic mode theory and the findings are validated using full-wave simulations. The developed planar ME-dipole-alike antenna is used to realize a dual-wideband radiating surface in which electric and magnetic currents are mutually coupled and interlaced, which is excited by properly oriented and distributed sources on the antenna's surface. Eventually, a highly isolated dual-wideband prototype was developed and fabricated using a cost-effective multi-layer Printed Circuit Board (PCB) process that operates in the Ku-band with both impedance and gain bandwidth of approximately 42% and in the Ka-band with respective impedance and gain bandwidth of 29% and 16.32%. Magnetic skyrmions are particle-like topological protected spin structures that can be driven by electric current. We demonstrate a single skyrmion-based multilevel data storage device that could also work as the potential artificial synapse for neuromorphic computing. Four pinning sites are designed to situate the skyrmion in selective regions, whose resistances rise owing to the anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) induced by the skyrmion. Skyrmion's position could denote the data levels when the device works as a multilevel data storage device. Pinning sites' positions represent the synaptic weights when it functions as the artificial synapse. Multilevel data storage device's data level change or the synapse's potentiation and depression is realized by the electric current applied parallel to the track. Our work shows that the AMR could help to detect a single skyrmion without the magnetic tunnel junction. Moreover, the skyrmion manipulated by pinning provides an approach for precise control and helps realize skyrmion-based in-memory computing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A metasurface consisting of a 2D periodic square lattice of metallic square ring resonators is considered for supporting spoof surface plasmon polariton (SSPP) modes. First, SSPP modes are highlighted by simulated dispersion curves. The dispersion curves are analyzed by considering hybridization of modes in either a patch or an aperture array with frequency shifts. Hybridization of modes is also supported by means of surface current and electric field mappings showing consistent symmetric and anti-symmetric fields. Second, it is shown that a dipole antenna located near the metasurface is able to generate SSPP modes. The transmission spectra between two antennas located at each extremity of the metasurface show transmission enhancements compared with propagation in free space. The transmission enhancements are shown for different locations of the antennas either facing each other or positioned in diagonal. Finally, the transmission enhancement is connected to SSPP modes by comparing the transmission spectra and the measured dispersion curves with each other. Specifically, two transmission windows measured for an embroidered metasurface are related to the cutoff frequency of the two SSPP modes supported by the metasurface as evidenced by the measured dispersion curves. Because of their full compatibility with CMOS technology, HfO2-based ferroelectrics, and especially Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 (HZO), attract a lot of attention. However, the overwhelming majority of measurement techniques provides only information about the cumulative electrical response of many domains of HZO, i.e., at the macroscopic level. So far, only piezoresponse force microscopy technique was applied to visualize distinct ferroelectric domains in HZO and to analyze the local switching behavior in the microscopic level. This work introduces the possibility of using electron beam-induced current (EBIC) technique in the scanning electron microscope to visualize the gradual polarization reversal of HZO and to obtain the local polarization dynamics. We show that although the local EBIC signal is affected by surrounding domains, studying the variations in the ferroelectric response of individual domains as well as the spread of the local stiffness and local imprint is possible by this method. Besides, we show the connection between the EBIC current and an electric field across passive non-ferroelectric layers at interfaces between HZO and metal electrodes, which opens up additional opportunities to use the EBIC technique for investigations of interface-dependent properties of HZO ferroelectrics in the future. The possibility of using plasma electron spectroscopy (PLES) as a practical method for the detection and identification of crystalline impurities of salts: silver salts, as well as ammonium salts, used in explosives and dangerous substances is shown. To create a prototype of the PLES detector, relatively simple technical solutions are adopted. The source of excitation of metastable atoms is a short DC glow discharge. For analysis, probe scheme for registering electric current from an auxiliary additional electrode probe is used when scanning the retarding electric potential. As a result of a series of experiments, the possibility of detecting products, cathode sputtering, and decomposition of ammonium and silver salts was shown. We present two derivations of the hyperfine interaction in the ground state of hydrogen using classical electrodynamics. We calculate, at the site of the proton moment m → p , the magnetic field B → e due to the magnetization source M → e (r →) of the relatively extended 1 s electron state. This gives the magnetic interaction via − m → p · B → e . One derivation applies the Biot–Savart law to the bound 1 s electric current J → b = ∇ → × M → to directly find B → e ; the other derivation applies the magnetic version of the Coulomb Law to the bound 1 s magnetic charge density ρ b = − ∇ → · M → to first obtain μ 0 H → e and then adds μ 0 M → to find B → e . We show, for any source M → , that these two approaches give the same B → (r →) , as is expected within classical electrodynamics. This article describes two classical derivations of the hyperfine interaction in hydrogen. In contrast to familiar derivations, these involve no singularities in the magnetic field of the electron. Instead, the interaction energy of a localized proton magnetic moment in the smooth field of an electron in a 1 s orbital is calculated using both bound magnetic charges and bound currents, and the general equivalence of these two approaches is proved. The analysis is accessible in a junior-level electrodynamics course and connects classical electrodynamics to quantum mechanics, as well as the 21 cm line used in astronomy and astrophysics. This study delves into the electrophysical processes and intricate fluid dynamics of an electrical-explosion-induced bubble in water. A fine copper wire is heated up and exploded to dense metallic aerosol (vapor–drop mixture) via a μs-timescale 10 kA current pulse, crossing a wide range of the density–temperature parametric space. High-speed photography along with discharge diagnostics reveals two modes for plasma development (restrike) inside explosion products: gas discharge and volume ionization. Experimental results indicate the metal–insulator transition of metal can easily throttle down circuit current at a moderate degree of vaporization, resulting in a free-expanding metallic aerosol in the presence of a quasi-direct current axial electric field of kV/cm level. After dozens of μs, an anode-directed, "ionization wave" is observed inside the aerosol bubble, propagating with a speed of 3–10 km/s. Remarkably, adjustments in the electric field permit the observation of cathode-directed discharge development. Increasing the charging voltage or wire diameter promotes the overheating degree, accompanied by partial ionized striation of electro-thermal instability. With sufficient high overheating of the wire (ξ > 1), the gas discharge disappears and restrike is dominated by volume ionization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) effect on a Weyl semimetal Co2MnAl Heusler alloy was experimentally and theoretically investigated by changing the Co content, the direction of electric current against the crystal axis, and the measurement temperature. The experimentally fabricated Co2MnAl thin films epitaxially grown on a MgO single-crystal substrate showed the positive AMR ratios independent of the Co content, the direction of electric current, and the measurement temperature. The AMR ratios for the direction of electric current along Co2MnAl[100] were larger than those along Co2MnAl[110]. The maximum AMR ratios for Co2MnAl[100] were 0.576% at 5 K and 0.349% at 300 K for a Co content of 47 at. %, which is close to the stoichiometric composition. Furthermore, the theoretical calculations of AMR ratios based on the s-d scattering process of the electrons at the Fermi energy, including the information on the density of states (DOS) obtained from first-principles calculations, exhibited trends similar to the experimental results. Compared with the AMR results of Co2MnGa[110], we found that the magnitude relation between the partial DOS of the ε and γ orbitals of the d state of Co atoms determined the sign of the AMR ratios. These results suggest that the AMR effect of Weyl semimetal Co2MnAl can be elucidated by the s-d scattering process of the electrons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, several artificial molecular motors driven and controlled by electric currents have been proposed. Similar to Brownian machines, these systems work by turning random inelastic tunneling events into a directional rotation of the molecule. Despite their importance as the ultimate component of future molecular machines, their modeling has not been sufficiently studied. Here, we develop a dynamical model to describe these systems. We illustrate the validity and usefulness of our model by applying it to a well-known molecular motor, showing that the obtained results are consistent with the available experimental data. Moreover, we demonstrate how to use our model to extract some difficult-to-access microscopic parameters. Finally, we include an analysis of the expected effects of current-induced forces (CIFs). Our analysis suggests that, although nonconservative contributions of the CIFs can be important in some scenarios, they do not seem important in the analyzed case. The micrometer-sized nickelate–titanate heterojunctions with LaNiO3 (LNO) electrode have been fabricated to investigate the dominant current transport mechanisms under positive and negative bias. The LNO/SmNiO3 (SNO)/Nb:SrTiO3 (NSTO) heterojunction exhibits a highly rectifying feature with a very low leakage in a broad temperature region (from 200 to 425 K), which is attributed to the formation of a Schottky-like barrier at the SNO/NSTO interface. In addition, it is found that the trap defects (i.e., oxygen vacancies) play an essential role in determining the current density (J)–voltage (V) characteristics irrespective of the voltage polarity. The leakage current at low electric fields (<0.25 MV/cm) is dominated by temperature-enhanced trap assisted tunneling process, which is caused by the interface oxygen vacancy induced states. Further analysis suggests that, at high fields (>1.2 MV/cm), the leakage is ascribed to the bulk-limited field enhanced thermal ionization of trapped carriers in the SNO film (i.e., Poole–Frenkel emission). Specially, the oxygen vacancy redistribution near the SNO/NSTO heterointerface driven by a high temperature (425 K) or high electrical field (>3.8 MV/cm) stress is emphasized to account for the transition from the Schottky contact limited to bulk-limited conduction mechanism (i.e., space charge limited conduction). This work will benefit the further analysis of the resistive switching phenomena in nickelate-based devices, showing a potential for nonvolatile memory applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A series of single crystal Sr2Ir1–xRuxO4 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.55) have been synthesized, and their physical properties have been investigated. Ru-substitution at Ir-site can drastically reduce the resistivity, which is accompanied by serious suppression of the long range antiferromagnetic order. With the application of electric current, remarkable electroresistance exceeding 90% is obtained at x ∼ 0.2, which may contain significant contribution from the strong magnetic competitions. Interestingly, insulator–metal transition driven by electric current is observed (e.g., below 100 K), which can be ascribed to the lattice modulation. The findings indicate that the electric current can be an efficient route to tune the physical properties of the Jeff = 1/2 Mott insulator. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since the 18th century, the use of electrical stimulation has been widely used to treat disease and control the development of cells, tissues, and organ growth. Electric fields and currents are used to mimic endogenous signals that regulate cell behavior to both better understand their mechanism of action and provide control for bio-engineering and therapeutics. While delivery of electric fields has proven useful, low frequency field delivery remains inaccessible with standard metal electrodes. This delivery of low frequency electric fields is limited by areal capacitance, resulting in low charge injection capacities or Faradaic reactions, which can generate cytotoxic by-products. Here, we demonstrate freestanding poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) electrodes, which conduct both ions and electrons, resulting in electrode capacitance that scales with volume rather than area. We show that these electrodes can be used to generate electric fields in an aqueous medium at frequencies as low as 0.1 Hz. Specifically, we demonstrate persistent electric fields in aqueous media without exceeding the electrochemical window of water, previously unattainable using standard electrodes. Finally, we show that thick PEDOT:PSS electrodes are not cytotoxic. A metal/liquid-metal junction is a practical thermoelectric cell causing heat absorption or release according to the direction of electric current and temperature gradient. During thermoelectric processes, the possibility of activating the anomalous heat transfer is considered in this work based on adopting a fractional version of Jeffreys equation with three fractional parameters. Because of the connection between the mean-squared displacement of diffusive hot particles and the thermal conductivity, the fractional Jeffreys law is employed to simulate the low thermal conductivity with crossovers; accelerated or retarded transition, and the transition from high (superconductivity—above the Fourier heat conduction) to low (subconductivity—below the Fourier heat conduction) thermal conductivity. The Couette formulation describing a pressure-driven flow of a viscous thick liquid-metal layer bounded by two similar metallic plates, in the presence of a constant transverse magnetic field, is investigated. A triple-phase pressure gradient, consisting of the phases: (i) ramp-up, (ii) dwell, and (iii) exponential decay, is applied as a real-life flow cause and compared with the classical constant pressure gradient and the impulsive pressure gradient case. The velocity and temperature are obtained in the Laplace domain, and then a suitable numerical technique based on the Fourier series approximation is used to recover the solutions in the real domain. It is found that the retarded crossover of low thermal conduction shows "ultraslow" temperature propagation within the thick layer, which indicates to a case of ultralow heat conduction. As well as the strong correlation between the pressure gradient type (constant, impulsive, or three-phase) and direction (favorable or adverse) and its induced velocity, the temperature gradient between the two plates plays a key role in the determination of the velocity direction and magnitude. The Montgomery method is extensively employed to determine the electrical resistance tensor of anisotropic samples. This technique relies on two essential parameters describing an isotropic system: the geometric factor (H1) and the effective thickness (E). The numerical values of these parameters are intricately linked to the dimensions of an isotropic block equivalent to the studied anisotropic specimen. While these parameters hold importance, the physical interpretation of these terms still lacks clarity. In this study, we utilized the finite element method to simulate electrical transport experiments across samples of various shapes. Utilizing the Electric Currents physics interface in the COMSOL program, we were able to provide a comprehensive analysis of the physical meaning of these parameters to accurately determine the electrical properties of thin films and wafers. The presented findings related to the physical interpretation of H1 and E terms make substantial contributions to the field of electrical transport experimental techniques, which are fundamental to design advanced materials for technological applications and understand their physical properties. Plasmas have emerged as a promising technology for the utilization of NH3 as a carbon-free fuel for direct plasmas-assisted combustion and hydrogen production. This study aims to explore the electrical and optical emission characteristics of the rotating gliding arc (RGA) discharge in NH3 and air swirling flows over a wide range of nominal power inputs. The electrical characteristics were measured using voltage–current probes, while a spectrometer was employed to assess the spectral characteristics. Additionally, a synchronized high-speed camera equipped with a dual-scope objective was utilized to capture transient phenomena of the arc in the optical emission spectrum. Both the spark-type and glow-type discharges were observed in RGA. Interestingly, the spark-type discharge frequency exhibited a non-monotonic variation with increasing nominal power inputs for both NH3 and air, while the glow-type discharge frequency displayed a monotonous upward trend. Regarding the spectral emission characteristics in NH3, a dramatic transition of the arc emission spectrum from Hα to NH2* was observed as nominal power inputs increased. The Hα and NH2* emissions that are dominated in the spark-type and glow-type discharges, respectively, and the intensity ratio of Hα and NH2* emission shows evident correlations with discharge current and electric field strength. The spin current can be generated by passing an electric current through a heavy metal. The spin current generation depends on the spin Hall angle (θsh) of the material. To manipulate the effective θsh, a thin layer of Au has been introduced at the bottom Pt/Co and the top Co/Pt interfaces in Ta/Pt/Co/Pt based perpendicularly magnetic anisotropy systems, and current-induced magnetization reversal of Co has been studied to estimate Jc. The introduction of the Au layer at the top Co/Pt interface (Ta/Pt/Co/Au/Pt) did not produce any significant reduction in the Jc. However, a significant reduction of Jc (∼ 34 %) has been observed, while the Au layer has been deposited at the bottom Pt/Co interface (Ta/Pt/Au/Co/Pt), indicating an enhancement in the value of θsh. We also performed a micromagnetic simulation to understand the qualitative change of the θsh. Micromagnetic simulation suggested that the θsh becomes 0.07 in Ta/Pt/Au/Co/Pt multilayer compared to θ s h = 0.05 of the Ta/Pt/Co/Pt system. Pt/Co/Au/Co/Au exhibits a reduction in Jc up to ∼ 30 % and corresponds to θ s h = 0.09. A Ta capping layer has been introduced to inject more spin current into the Co layer since Pt and Ta have opposite spin Hall angles. The Jc lowers up to ∼ 58 % in Ta/Pt/Au/Co/Pt/Ta multilayer, corresponding to θ s h = 0.23. We also achieved field-free switching at J c = 1.55 × 10 11 by depositing an in-plane magnetized layer of Co in Ta/Pt/Au/Co/Pt/Ta/Co/Pt multilayer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Flow cytometry-based measurement techniques have been widely used for single-cell characterizations, such as impedance, size, and dielectric properties. However, in the measurement process, the reliability of the output measurement signal directly affects the ability of the microsystem to judge the characteristics of single cells. Here, we designed a multiple nonparallel electrode structure for single-cell 3D localization. The performance of the structures was studied by analyzing the changes in electric field strength and the output differential current. The effects of microchannel height, sensing electrode distance, electrode inclination angle, and electrode width on output signals are investigated by analyzing the current change and electric field strength of single cells passing from the center of the microchannel. The numerical simulation results indicate that, when the microchannel height is 20 µm, the distance of the sensing electrodes is 100 µm, the inclination angle is 30°, the electrode width is 20 µm, and the optimal signal quality can be obtained. Reducing the height of the flow channel and shortening the sensing electrode spacing can significantly improve the signal amplitude. When the channel height is 20 µm, the signal intensity increases by 80% than that of 30 µm. The signal intensity of induced current with the sensing electrode spacing of 100 µm is 42% higher than that with the spacing of 120 µm. We analyzed the presence of multiple independent cells and adherent cells in the detection area and demonstrated through simulation that the signal changes caused by multi-cells can be superimposed by multiple single-cell signals. The induced current signal intensity of the same volume of cells with an ellipticity of 1 is 49% lower than that of cells with an ellipticity of 4. Based on the numerical investigation, we expect that the optimal geometry structure design will aid in the development of better performance signal cell impedance cytometry microsystems. Electrons near the Fermi level behaving as massless Dirac fermions in graphene in (1+2)-D relativistic spacetime have been confirmed by an experiment. Using this aspect, a myriad of novel and interesting devices can be sought. In this paper, we laid out the theory for using a monolayer graphene sheet as an electron diffractometer, aiming at the determination of surface properties in materials. The key ingredient is the Mott scattering of electrons by screened Coulomb scatterers in (1+2)-D spacetime. The specific array of scatterers provided by a given surface placed in contact with a graphene sheet will induce an angular distribution for the electron scattering events, which can be properly measured through the electric current flowing to external electrodes. It can provide an in situ technique for characterizing quantum dot superlattices with a resolution of a few nanometers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article describes an experimental study of the electrical and kinetic parameters of a Knudsen-mode thermionic converter (TIC) equipped both with a multicavity and a smooth emitter that converts heat into electrical energy using a combination of cesium and barium vapors. In the study, we recorded and analyzed data on how the maximum electron current density and the specific power are affected by the values of cesium and barium vapors pressure, the width of the interelectrode gap, and such parameters of the emitters as temperature and surface geometry. By analyzing the influence of surface geometry, it was revealed that the values of the electron current density and the electric power are four times higher in a TIC with a multicavity emitter compared to a TIC with a smooth emitter. TIC efficiency was analyzed taking into account the effective emissivity of the multicavity emitter. It is shown that the efficiency of such a TIC exceeds that of a TIC with a smooth emitter despite a slight increase in heat transfer from the emitter to the collector due to radiation. Light transition metals have recently emerged as a sustainable material class for efficient spin–charge interconversion. We report measurements of current-induced spin–orbit torques generated by Ni1−xCux alloys in perpendicularly magnetized ferrimagnetic Gd/Fe multilayers. We show that the spin–orbit torque efficiency of Ni1−xCux increases with the Ni/Cu atomic ratio, reaching values comparable to those of Pt for Ni55Cu45. Furthermore, we demonstrate magnetization switching of a 20-nm-thick Gd/Fe multilayer with a threshold current that decreases with increasing Ni concentration, similar to the spin–orbit torque efficiency. The phenomenon of chirality-induced spin selectivity (CISS), where chiral organic molecules enable the selective transmission of electrons spin-polarized along the direction of electric current, has been studied for nearly two decades. Despite its technological relevance, CISS is not fully understood. Recent studies have expanded the concept of spin selectivity to chiral inorganic crystals, offering promise for magnet-free spintronics and other applications. This Perspective reviews recent developments on spin selectivity in non-magnetic solid-state materials, whereby chirality-dependent charge-to-spin conversion is responsible for transforming electric currents into spin signals, and spin transport within devices. Notably, chiral systems often outperform non-chiral ones in terms of conversion efficiency and facilitate long-range spin transport, which makes them relevant for both fundamental and applied physics. After examining the archetypal example of the chiral crystal, elemental tellurium, and the studies of spin selectivity in Weyl semimetals, we discuss its origin in terms of the unconventional (collinear) Rashba–Edelstein effect. We also explore key factors affecting the conversion efficiency and robustness of spin transport, focusing on persistent spin textures and their influence on spin lifetime. In addition, we discuss the potential impact of band velocities and the role of orbital contributions, as well as the differences associated with reduced dimensionality, providing a roadmap for guiding future theoretical, experimental, and applied studies. The safety and reliability of the initiating explosive devices (IEDs) are critical for the weapon system. As the core components of IEDs, the method of resistance designing and the performance of conversion energy of energy conversion components (ECCs) are worth being studied. In this paper, the design method for the resistance of ECCs is established based on the finite element discrete method, and the currents of melting and electric explosion are presented for evaluating the performance of ECCs. The results show that the resistance of the ECCs is 1 ± 0.05 Ω with consistency. The ECCs were designed by the established design method of resistance and manufactured by the established machining method. The melting current of ECCs is 1.8 A, which is calculated by the infrared temperature measurement and finite element simulation. The electric explosion current of ECCs is 5 A, which was obtained by combining the snapshot obtained via the high-speed camera and finite element simulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Magnetization control by electric current or spin current is an attractive technology with potential applications in memory and logic devices, and Mn4N has attracted much attention in recent years as a candidate material for current-induced magnetization switching and magnetic domain wall motion, as well as a skyrmion material. For these applications, a bilayer structure of Mn4N and heavy metals must be formed with high crystalline quality. In this study, we have achieved the epitaxial growth of Mn4N thin films on MgO(001) with a Pt underlayer. The reflection high-energy electron diffraction images and x-ray diffraction ω-rocking curves show that the Mn4N films fabricated on the Pt underlayers exhibit higher crystalline quality than the Mn4N films directly formed on the MgO. Furthermore, anomalous Hall effect loops with bump-like structures were observed. This is considered to be due to the topological spin texture. The Mn4N/Pt epitaxial bilayer structure has potential for use in spin–orbit torque applications and is a candidate configuration for topological spin textures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
