ID24 is the energy dispersive beamline of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility dedicated to X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS). Thanks to the parallel acquisition mode that allows data in a large energy range to be collected simultaneously, XAS using dispersive optics is particularly suited for the study of time dependent processes. The techniques that can be used to study such systems vary according to the timescale of the phenomena under investigation. They take advantage of the temporal structure of the synchrotron radiation in case of time resolution of the order of the intrinsic duration of the x-ray pulse (100 ps), while for time scales above 100 μs or below 100 ps, the x-ray beam can be considered continuous and the time resolution is determined by the different detection systems. © 2007 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
