Radon is a carcinogenic gas that can cause lung cancer in humans. Radon comes at second number after the cigarette smoking in causing lung cancer to the humans. It is a naturally occurring radioactive gas along with another radioactive gas thoron that can be present indoor in high concentration without the knowledge of the occupants, leading to some health-related problems in them. To safe guard the humans from radon & thoron exposure some mitigation methods can be suggested. But before that, the firsthand knowledge of its concentration in the dwellings is the utmost important thing. The measurement of radon and thoron concentration in the dwellings can be done by many methods, however, passive measurement technique of using pin hole-based radon thoron dosimeters with solid state nuclear track detectors is preferred over other techniques. In this paper we have measured indoor radon & thoron concentration of around ten dwellings in the Gurugram district of Haryana. Annual effective dose rates due to radon and thoron were also calculated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
