Over the past few years, the issue of pollution from the grave is often taken into account and always become a study material and research. The most commonly used method for disposal of dead bodies and limbs is incineration. Incineration has been used for decades. Previously, biological specimen at the Hospital University of Sains Malaysia (HUSM) was disposed of through incinerators. Given that the majority of HUSM patients are Muslim societies, a method to dispose biological waste in an Islamic-compliant through burial method is proposed. In addition, incineration of dead bodies will have a bad impact on the environment and human health through the emission of toxic gases. New way has been introduced to overcome this problem by burial of formalin fixed specimen onto the soil. However, formalin preservation on specimen is a main concern. This study was done to determine the effect of the formaldehyde on the growth of the Jasminum sambac plant and the physical characteristic of the plant. The height of plant, surface area of leaf, number of leaves and flowers, colour of leaves and chlorophyll content of leaf were observed before and after the plants was treated with formaldehyde. The results obtained from this research will give valuable information on the effect of formaldehyde on the environment specifically on the plant. This study also determines whether the formalin fixed specimen by burial method give negative or positive effect to the environment. The physical characteristics of the plant after treated with formaldehyde shows a negative growth with decrease in number of leaves and flowers as well as in the surface area of leaf. Other than that, the colors of leaves changed from dark green to brownish color for the plants that treated with formaldehyde. In conclusion, formaldehyde application affected the plant and cause the physical characteristic of the plants does not grow well even with the lower concentration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In 2018, a routine observation of lunar occultation events was conducted from Balai Cerap Al-Khawarizmi Melaka with the collaboration of School of Physics, Universiti Sains Malaysia. The routine observation aimed at measuring the angular separation of binary stars using the lunar occultation technique which is the first in Malaysia. The 16-inches Ritchey-Chretien Optical System telescope of Balai Cerap Al-khawarizmi Observatory with QHY5-III 224C CMOS camera were used for the observations. The observations were made every first half of the lunar month for nine months with two months break. From the observation, 56 disappearance events on the dark limb of the moon were observed and seven of them were successfully recorded. One of the events, the disappearance of v Geminorum star produced a good data and the projected angular separation of the binary star system was measured to be 0.048 ± 0.08 arc-seconds at the position angle of (194.5 ± 1.67)° which agrees with previous measurements made by much bigger telescopes and more advanced techniques such as the speckle interferometry and adaptive optics. This result shows a potential in the future of high angular resolution measurement using the readily-available astronomical equipment in the observatories in Malaysia, compared to direct observation techniques. The complex relative dielectric function ε*(ω) = ε′ - jε″ of binary mixture of ADP material with pure water at varying concentration have been measure using the VNA in the frequency range 200MHz to 20GHz at room temperature (303.15K). The electrical or dielectric properties are represented in terms of complex relative dielectric function ε*(ω), complex electrical conductivity σ*(ω), Complex electric modulus M*(ω) and complex impedance Z*(ω). All these properties are used to elaborate the various processes contributed in the dielectric properties of the mixture of ADP and pure water. A pellet (BULK) of Sn(tin) doped CdS(Cadmium Sulfide) has been prepared by using compression technique with pelletizer. The different weight percentage of Sn doped CdS pellets was used for the investigation of dielectric properties as a function of frequency in the range from 20Hz to 2 MHz using precision LCR meter. A preliminary obtained data like dielectric constant (ε′), dielectric loss (ε″) and extensive quantities, i.e. conductivity (σ′), electric modulus (M), complex impedance (Z) have been calculated. Anhydrous Diglycine sulfate single crystals have been grown from the aqueous solutions, which is made from the glycerin and sulfuric acid at room temperature with pH values. This grown crystal now used to study some optical and dielectric properties. i.e. refractive index, density, molar refraction, Polarizability and Molar Polarization. In: Bi2Se3 crystals were grown by Bridgman method at a growth velocity of 0.5cm/h with temperature gradient of 650 C/cm in our laboratory. The thin films of In:Bi2se3 were grown on amorphous substrate (glass) at a room temperature under a pressure of 10-4Pa by thermal evaporation technique. Thin film were deposited at various thicknesses and optical absorption spectrum of such thin films, obtain in wave no. range 300 to 2600 cm-1. The optical energy gap calculated from this data were found to be inverse function of square of thickness, particularly for thickness about 1800 Å or less. This dependence is explained in terms of quantum size effect. For thicker films, the bandgap is found to be independent of film thickness. For the surface stud of the as grown thin film by using AFM, which shows continuous film with some step height and surface roughness found in terms of few nm and particle size varies with respect to thickness.
