The article discusses the measurement of clinical performance quality in the U.S. According to the authors, many performance measures are used to asses the ambulatory care performance of physician groups. It says that higher performance on process measures are associated with better health outcomes, and performance reporting will improve the quality of clinical care. However, performance measurement in health care remains controversial because of the concerns that measures with poor validity will drive physicians to provide inappropriate care.
