A study was conducted to determine whether TGFBR1*6A, a common polymorphism of the type 1 transforming growth factor beta receptor (TGFBR1), is somatically acquired by primary tumors and metastases during cancer development. Results indicated that TGFBR1*6A is acquired in 29.5% of liver metastases from colorectal cancer and might bestow cancer cells with a growth advantage in the presence of TGF-beta.
