The effect of arginine vassopressin (AVP) on agonist-stimulated adenosine 3', 5'-cyclic monophosphate (cAMP) accumulation was examined in vascular smooth muscles cultured (VSMC) from rat thoracic aorta. Results of the experiment indicated that AVP activates V1 formation by a Ca2+-calmodulin-dependent mechanism. Furthermore, type III adenylyl cyclase provides a focal point in the VSMC for processes between constrictor and dilator pathways.

A study of the effect of various metabolic and hormonal treatment on alpha(sub 2)-adrenergic receptor (alpha{sub 2}-Ar) expression and coupling in the pancreatic beta-cell lines HIT-T15 and RIN-5AH showed both pancreatic beta-cell lines expression the alpha(sub 2A/D)-AR subtype and the glucocorticoids upregulates alpha(sub 2)-AR expression and the signaling in pancreatic beta cells. This regulation operates in a cell-specific manner, thus allowing discrete modulation of tissue to glucose dishomeostasis.

An analysis of correlation between sex steroids or androgenic steroids and thromboxane A2 (TxA2)/prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) receptors, prevalent in human erythroleukemia (HEL) cells, revealed the regulatory function of androgenic steroids during expression of a functional TxA2/PGH2 receptors in HEL cells. Equilibrium binding experiments using the radiolabeled TxA2 agonist estimated the affinity and density of TxA2/PGH2 receptors. These measurements facilitated the analysis of the function of testosterone as a regulator of HEL cell TxA2/PGH2 receptors.
