Abstract

A moderately thermophilic magnetotactic bacterium populations discovered in great boiling springs, Nevada, ranging from 32 to 63 degree Celsius is reported. Phylogenetic findings based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing reported the organism to belong to the phylum Nitrospirae with small gram-negative cells and vibrioid to helicoid in morphology.

Abstract

The unique magnetotactic bacteria of the Deltaproteobacteria a class of magnetotactic multicellular prokaryotes (MMPs) which are found to biomineralize the magnetic mineral greigite ([Fe.sub.3][S.sub.4]) are reported. The unique morphology of the MMP is not restricted to marine and magnetotactic prokaryotes and might support the hypothesis related to the acquisition of the magnetosome genes that are involved in horizontal gene transfer.
