Abstract

The C-terminal of the glucan-binding domain (GBD) with five repeating units of 65 amino acids each, is necessary for the glucosyltransferase (GFT) enzymes of Streptococcus mutans to bind glucan. An antibody-independent binding assay shows that if the C-terminal is removed, GFT is unable to bind glucan but if the N-terminal catalytic domain is removed glucan-binding is unaffected.
