Research was conducted to examine the fate of the marine bacterium Shewanella algae under cold and nutrient-limited conditions. The objective was to determine the occurrence of S algae in Danish seawater. Results indicate that S algae would survive cold exposure better if in the biofilm state. However, culturable counts from S algae biofilms decreased as rapidly as did counts of planktonic cells.

The inhibition of the fish pathogen Vibrio anguillarum by the antibacterial strain Pseudomonas fluorescens strain AH2 has been assessed. The inhibitory effect of the latter was studied under iron-rich and iron-limited conditions. Results indicated that the growth of V. anguillarum can be controlled by the iron-limited sterile-filtered culture supernatants of P. fluorescens. However, the growth of V. anguillarum cannot be stopped by the sterile-filtered supernatants under iron-rich conditions.

A study was conducted to examine the inhibition of Vibrio anguillarum by surface-attached Roseobacter in a combined liquid-surface system. The significant reduction or complete killing observed for the inoculated pathogen could likely be associated with the production of tropodithietic acid (TDA), as a TDA-negative mutant failed to affect survival or growth of V. anguillarum.

A study is conducted to determine if bacteria with antagonistic activity against turbot larval pathogens are present in turbot larval rearing units at specific sites or times and whether these are the same species or changed according to the season.
