The article focuses on a study on utilized friction (uCOF) in individuals while running and cutting. It is said that knowledge about uCOF during sport-related activities serves as a key element in the creation of footwear requirements and standards for court surfaces as well as in the prevention of slip accidents. Under the study, subjects have been fitted with similar cross-training shoes and asked to run as well as perform the side-step and V-cut maneuvers. Results indicate that uCOF was the lowest during running and the highest during the V-cut task.
