We use the TNG300 magneto-hydrodynamic simulation and mock catalogues built using subhalo abundance matching (SHAM) to study the origin of the redshift evolution of the halo occupation distribution (HOD). We analyse stellar-mass selected galaxy samples with fixed number densities, spanning the redshift range $0 \le z \le 3$. We measure their halo occupation functions and fit the HOD parameters to study their evolution over cosmic time. The TNG300 galaxy population strongly depends on the baryonic physics implemented in the simulation. In contrast, the galaxy population predicted by a basic SHAM model without scatter is a direct result of the cosmology of the dark matter simulation. We find that the HOD evolution is similar for both models and is consistent with a previous study of the HOD evolution in semi-analytical models. Specifically, this is the case for the ratio between the characteristic halo masses for hosting central and satellite galaxies. The only HOD parameter whose evolution varies across models is $\sigma_{\rm logM}$, which contains information about the stellar mass-halo mass relation of the galaxies and does not strongly impact galaxy clustering. We also demonstrate that the dependence on the specific values of the cosmological parameters is small. We conclude that the cosmology of the galaxy sample, i.e. the cosmological hierarchical growth of structure, and not the baryonic physics prescriptions, governs the evolution of the HOD for stellar mass-selected samples. Hyper-velocity stars (HVS) are enigmatic objects because they are travelling so fast that they escape from the Galaxy. Among hot subdwarfs, only one such star is known, the He-sdO US 708. The Hyper-MUCHFUSS collaboration provided additional HVS candidates. Here we revisit the fastest candidates including US 708 by analysing optical spectra and spectral energy distributions using a new grid of tailored model atmospheres and report preliminary results. The sample is dominated by H-rich subdwarfs and their distribution in the Kiel diagram appears to be bimodal for the sdB stars but otherwise fits canonical evolutionary models well. Gaia proper motion measurements allowed a precise kinematic investigation to be made. It turns out that all previously proposed HVS candidates are actually bound to the Galaxy, except US 708. The original candidate sample turns out to belong to an extreme halo population. The apolar fullerenes C60 and C70 are not accessible for radio astronomy. Upon ionization static Jahn-Teller effects occur in C70+ that distort the D5h neutral symmetry to Cs. This point group is polar thus ionization induces a permanent electric dipole moment in C70. The goal of the present calculations is to compute the equilibrium geometry and dipole moment of the C70+ cation by various DFT methods and to simulate microwave spectra. Using quantum chemistry rotational constants, Cartesian dipole moment components and the resultant dipole, as well as Jahn-Teller stabilization energies and HOMO-LUMO gaps were obtained. Microwave rotational spectrum simulations for the slightly asymmetric top ion were carried out for gas phase temperatures 2.73 K and 10 K. These spectra may serve as starting point for laboratory microwave measurements and as screening guide in radio astronomical searches. Gravitational waves (GWs) are a new avenue of observing our Universe. So far, we have seen them in the ~10-100 Hz range, and there are hints that we might soon detect them in the nanohertz regime. Multiple efforts are underway to access GWs across the frequency spectrum; however, parts of the frequency space are currently not covered by any planned or future observatories. Photometric surveys can bridge the microhertz gap in the spectrum between LISA and Pulsar Timing Arrays (PTAs) through relative astrometric measurements. Similar to PTA measurements, these astrometric measurements rely on the correlated spacetime distortions produced by gravitational waves at Earth, which induce coherent, apparent stellar position changes on the sky. To detect microhertz GWs with an imaging survey, a combination of high relative astrometric precision, a large number of observed stars, and a high cadence of exposures are needed. Roman's proposed core community survey, the Galactic Bulge Time Domain Survey (RGBTDS), would have all of these components. RGBTDS would be sensitive to GWs with frequencies ranging from $7.7\times 10^{-8}$ Hz to $5.6\times 10^{-4}$ Hz, which opens up a unique GW observing window for supermassive black hole binaries and their waveform evolution. We quantify the differences between stellar accelerations in disk galaxies formed in a MONDian universe relative to galaxies with the identical baryonic matter distributions and a fitted cold dark matter halo. In a Milky Way-like galaxy the maximal transverse acceleration is ${\cal {O}}(10^{-9})$ arcseconds per year per decade, well beyond even the most optimistic extrapolations of current capabilities. Conversely, the maximum difference in the line-of-sight acceleration is ${\cal {O}}(1)$ centimetre per second per decade at solar distances from the galactic centre. A significant excess of the stellar mass density at high redshift has been discovered from the early data release of James Webb Space Telescope ($\it{JWST}$), and it may require a high star formation efficiency. However, this will lead to large number density of ionizing photons in the epoch of reionization (EoR), so that the reionization history will be changed, which can arise tension with the current EoR observations. Warm dark matter (WDM), via the free streaming effect, can suppress the formation of small-scale structure as well as low-mass galaxies. This provides an effective way to decrease the ionizing photons when considering a large star formation efficiency in high-$z$ massive galaxies without altering the cosmic reionization history. On the other hand, the constraints on the properties of warm dark matter can be derived from the $\it JWST$ observations. In this work, we study WDM as a possible solution to reconcile the $\it JWST$ stellar mass density of high-$z$ massive galaxies and reionization history. We find that the WDM particle mass with $m_{\text{W}}\sim0.6$ keV can match both the $\it JWST$ high-$z$ comoving cumulative stellar mass density and the reionization history, for a star formation efficiency parameter range $f_{*}^{0} = 0.1 - 1.0$., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures

We present simulated galaxy spectral energy distributions (SEDs) from the far ultraviolet through the far infrared, created using hydrodynamic simulations and radiative transfer calculations, suitable for the validation of SED modeling techniques. SED modeling is an essential tool for inferring star formation histories from nearby galaxy observations, but is fraught with difficulty due to our incomplete understanding of stellar populations, chemical enrichment processes, and the non-linear, geometry dependent effects of dust on our observations. Our simulated SEDs will allow us to assess the accuracy of these inferences against galaxies with known ground truth. To create the SEDs, we use simulated galaxies from the NIHAO suite and the radiative transfer code SKIRT. We explore different sub-grid post-processing recipes, using color distributions and their dependence on axis ratio of galaxies in the nearby universe to tune and validate them. We find that sub-grid post-processing recipes that mitigate limitations in the temporal and spatial resolution of the simulations are required for producing FUV to FIR photometry that statistically reproduce the colors of galaxies in the nearby universe. With this paper we release resolved photometry and spatially integrated spectra for our sample galaxies, each from a range of different viewing angles. Our simulations predict that there is a large variation in attenuation laws among galaxies, and that from any particular viewing angle that energy balance between dust attenuation and reemission can be violated by up to a factor of 3. These features are likely to affect SED modeling accuracy.

The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) is a planned space-based gravitational wave telescope with the goal of measuring gravitational waves in the milli-Hertz frequency band, which is dominated by millions of Galactic binaries. While some of these binaries produce signals that are loud enough to stand out and be extracted, most of them blur into a confusion foreground. Current methods for analyzing the full frequency band recorded by LISA to extract as many Galactic binaries as possible and to obtain Bayesian posterior distributions for each of the signals are computationally expensive. We introduce a new approach to accelerate the extraction of the best fitting solutions for Galactic binaries across the entire frequency band from data with multiple overlapping signals. Furthermore, we use these best fitting solutions to omit the burn-in stage of a Markov chain Monte Carlo method and to take full advantage of GPU-accelerated signal simulation, allowing us to compute posterior distributions in 2 seconds per signal on a laptop-grade GPU., Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures

A small subset of extragalactic double radio sources, termed HYMORS (HYbrid MOrpholgy Radio Sources), is distinguished by a very unusual, hybrid morphology in terms of the Fanaroff-Riley (FR) classification. In HYMORS, one radio lobe appears edge-darkened (FR I), while the other shows a well-defined emission peak near its outer edge (edge-brightened, FR II). Such sources are rare but critical for constraining the mechanism responsible for the FR dichotomy, a widely debated issue in extragalactic astrophysics. Here we highlight the need for caution in assigning FR type, in view of some upcoming observational campaigns to confirm HYMORS among the candidates. To illustrate this we highlight the cases of 3 radio sources which have been perceived to be HYMORS, including the radio galaxy 0500+630 (4C +63.07) which has been claimed to be a good, original example of a HYMORS, with a FR I western lobe and a FR II eastern lobe marked by a prominent terminal hot spot. However, its recent VLASS map at 3 GHz has revealed that the western lobe actually extends much farther out than reported and terminates in a well-defined emission peak. This implies that the source is a regular FR II radio galaxy and not a HYMORS. We present a new high-precision, JWST-based, strong lensing model for the galaxy cluster Abell 2744 at $z=0.3072$. By combining the deep, high-resolution JWST imaging from the GLASS-JWST and UNCOVER programs and a Director's Discretionary Time program, with newly obtained VLT/MUSE data, we identify 32 multiple images from 11 background sources lensed by two external sub-clusters at distances of ~160" from the main cluster. The new MUSE observations enable the first spectroscopic confirmation of a multiple image system in the external clumps. Moreover, the re-analysis of the spectro-photometric archival and JWST data yields 27 additional multiple images in the main cluster. The new lens model is constrained by 149 multiple images ($\sim66\%$ more than in our previous Bergamini et al. 2023 model) covering an extended redshift range between 1.03 and 9.76. The subhalo mass component of the cluster includes 177 member galaxies down to $m_{\rm F160W}=21$, 163 of which are spectroscopically confirmed. Internal velocity dispersions are measured for 85 members. The new lens model is characterized by a remarkably low scatter between predicted and observed positions of the multiple images (0.43"). This precision is unprecedented given the large multiple image sample, the complexity of the cluster mass distribution, and the large modeled area. The improved accuracy and resolution of the cluster total mass distribution provides a robust magnification map over a $\sim\!45$ arcmin$^2$ area, which is critical for inferring the intrinsic physical properties of the highly magnified, high-$z$ sources. Astrophysical explorations are underpinned by large-scale stellar spectroscopy surveys, necessitating a paradigm shift in spectral fitting techniques. Our study proposes three enhancements to transcend the limitations of the current spectral emulation models. We implement an attention-based emulator, adept at unveiling long-range information between wavelength pixels. We leverage a domain-specific fine-tuning strategy where the model is pre-trained on spectra with fixed stellar parameters and variable elemental abundances, followed by fine-tuning on the entire domain. Moreover, by treating wavelength as an autonomous model parameter, akin to neural radiance fields, the model can generate spectra on any wavelength grid. Context. Cold cores are one of the first steps of star formation, characterized by densities of a few 104–105 cm−3, low temperatures (15 K and below), and very low external UV radiation. In these dense environments, a rich chemistry takes place on the surfaces of dust grains. Understanding the physico-chemical processes at play in these environments is essential to tracing the origin of molecules that are predominantly formed via reactions on dust grain surfaces. Aims. We observed the cold core LDN 429-C (hereafter L429-C) with the NOEMA interferometer and the IRAM 30 m single dish telescope in order to obtain the gas-phase abundances of key species, including CO and CH3OH. Comparing the data for methanol to the methanol ice abundance previously observed with Spitzer allows us to put quantitative constraints on the efficiency of the non-thermal desorption of this species. Methods. With physical parameters determined from available Herschel data, we computed abundance maps of 11 detected molecules with a non-local thermal equilibrium (LTE) radiative transfer model. These observations allowed us to probe the molecular abundances as a function of density (ranging from a few 103 to a few 106 cm−3) and visual extinction (ranging from 7 to over 75), with the variation in temperature being restrained between 12 and 18 K. We then compared the observed abundances to the predictions of the Nautilus astrochemical model. Results. We find that all molecules have lower abundances at high densities and visual extinctions with respect to lower density regions, except for methanol, whose abundance remains around 4.5 × 10−10 with respect to H2. The CO abundance spreads over a factor of 10 (from an abundance of 10−4 with respect to H2 at low density to 1.8 × 10−5 at high density) while the CS, SO, and H2S abundances vary by several orders of magnitude. No conclusion can be drawn for CCS, HC3N, and CN because of the lack of detections at low densities. Comparing these observations with a grid of chemical models based on the local physical conditions, we were able to reproduce these observations, allowing only the parameter time to vary. Higher density regions require shorter times than lower density regions. This result can provide insights on the timescale of the dynamical evolution of this region. The increase in density up to a few 104 cm−3 may have taken approximately 105 yr, while the increase to 106 cm−3 occurs over a much shorter time span (104 yr). Comparing the observed gas-phase abundance of methanol with previous measurements of the methanol ice, we estimate a non-thermal desorption efficiency between 0.002 and 0.09%, increasing with density. The apparent increase in the desorption efficiency cannot be reproduced by our model unless the yield of cosmic-ray sputtering is altered due to the ice composition varying as a function of density.

Quasars at $z~{\gtrsim}~1$ most often have redshifts measured from rest-frame ultraviolet emission lines. One of the most common such lines, C IV ${\lambda}1549$, shows blueshifts up to ${\approx}~5000~\rm{km~s^{-1}}$, and in rare cases even higher. This blueshifting results in highly uncertain redshifts when compared to redshift determinations from rest-frame optical emission lines, e.g., from the narrow [O III] ${\lambda}5007$ feature. We present spectroscopic measurements for 260 sources at $1.55~{\lesssim}~z~{\lesssim}~3.50$ having $-28.0~{\lesssim}~M_i~{\lesssim}~-30.0$ mag from the Gemini Near Infrared Spectrograph - Distant Quasar Survey (GNIRS-DQS) catalog, augmenting the previous iteration which contained 226 of the 260 sources whose measurements are improved upon in this work. We obtain reliable systemic redshifts based on [O III] ${\lambda}5007$ for a subset of 121 sources which we use to calibrate prescriptions for correcting UV-based redshifts. These prescriptions are based on a regression analysis involving C IV full-width-at-half-maximum intensity and equivalent width, along with the UV continuum luminosity at a rest-frame wavelength of 1350 A. Applying these corrections can improve the accuracy and the precision in the C IV-based redshift by up to ${\sim}~850~\rm{km~s^{-1}}$ and ${\sim}~150~\rm{km~s^{-1}}$, respectively, which correspond to ${\sim}~8.5$ Mpc and ${\sim}~1.5$ Mpc in comoving distance at $z~=~2.5$. Our prescriptions also improve the accuracy of the best available multi-feature redshift determination algorithm by ${\sim}~100~\rm{km~s^{-1}}$, indicating that the spectroscopic properties of the C IV emission line can provide robust redshift estimates for high-redshift quasars. The physical processes that establish the morphological evolution and the structural diversity of galaxies are key unknowns in extragalactic astrophysics. Here we report the finding of the morphologically-mature galaxy JADES-GS+53.18343-27.79097, which existed within the first 700 million years of the Universe's history. This star-forming galaxy with a stellar mass of $10^{8.6}$ solar masses consists of three components, a highly-compact core with a half-light radius of 144 pc, a strongly star-forming disc with a radius of 468 pc, and a star-forming clump, which all show distinctive star-formation histories. The central stellar mass density of this galaxy is within a factor of two of the most massive present-day ellipticals, while being globally 1000 times less massive. The radial profile of the specific star-formation rate is strongly rising toward the outskirts. This study uses archival high frequency continuum data to expand the search for Hypercompact HII regions and determine the conditions at which they appear, as this stage high mass star formation is short-lived and rare. We use 23 GHz continuum data taken towards methanol masers, which are an excellent signpost for very young embedded high-mass protostars. We have searched for high-frequency, optically thick radio sources to identify HC HII region candidates. The data cover 128 fields that include 141 methanol masers identified by the Methanol Multibeam (MMB) survey. We have detected 68 high-frequency radio sources and conducted a multi-wavelength analysis to determine their nature. This has identified 49 HII regions, 47 of which are embedded in dense clumps fourteen of which do not have a 5 GHz radio counterpart. We have identified 13 methanol maser sites that are coincident with radio sources that have a steep positive spectral index. The majority of these are not detected in the mid-infrared and have been classified as protostellar or young stellar objects in the literature and we therefore consider to be good HC HII region candidates, however, further work and higher resolution data are needed to confirm these candidates.

Contemporary research suggests that the reionisation of the intergalactic medium (IGM) in the early Universe was predominantly realised by star-forming (proto-)galaxies (SFGs). Due to observational constraints, our knowledge on the origins of sufficient amounts of ionising Lyman continuum (LyC) photons and the mechanisms facilitating their transport into the IGM remains sparse. Recent efforts have thus focussed on the study of local analogues to these high-redshift objects. We used archival spectroscopic SDSS DR12 data to select a sample of low-z He II 4686 emitters and restricted it to a set of SFGs with an emission line diagnostic sensitive to the presence of an AGN, which serves as our only selection criterion. Our final sample consists of eighteen low-mass, low-metallicity dwarf galaxies which appear to be predominantly ionised by stellar sources. We find large O32 ratios and [S II] deficiencies, which provide strong indications for these galaxies to be LyC Emitters (LCEs). At least 40% of these objects are candidates for featuring cosmologically significant LyC escape fractions >10%. Their SFHs exhibit strong similarities and almost all galaxies appear to contain an old (>1 Gyr) stellar component, while also harbouring a young, two-stage (~10 Myr and, 28 pages, 22 figures. We investigate the relationship between CN N = 1 - 0 and HCN J = 1 - 0 emission on scales from 30 pc to 400 pc using ALMA archival data, for which CN is often observed simultaneously with the CO J = 1 - 0 line. In a sample of 9 nearby galaxies ranging from ultra-luminous infrared galaxies to normal spiral galaxies, we measure a remarkably constant CN/HCN line intensity ratio of 0.86 $\pm$ 0.07 (standard deviation of 0.20). This relatively constant CN/HCN line ratio is rather unexpected, as models of photon dominated regions have suggested that HCN emission traces shielded regions with high column densities while CN should trace dense gas exposed to high ultraviolet radiation fields. We find that the CN/HCN line ratio shows no significant correlation with molecular gas surface density, but shows a mild trend (increase of ~ 1.3 per dex) with both star formation rate surface density and star formation efficiency (the inverse of the molecular gas depletion time). Some starburst and active galactic nuclei show small enhancements in their CN/HCN ratio, while other nuclei show no significant difference from their surrounding disks. The nearly constant CN/HCN line ratio implies that CN, like HCN, can be used as a tracer of dense gas mass and dense gas fraction in nearby galaxies., Comment: Accepted to MNRAS; 21 pages, 12 figures

Previous models have shown that stochastic scattering of stars in a two-dimensional galaxy disc can generate a time-independent surface density distribution that is an exponential divided by radius when a constant inward scattering bias is present. Here we show, using a Markov chain model, that similar profiles result from an outward scattering bias, although the disc surface density decreases slowly with time because of a net stellar outflow. The trend towards a near-exponential surface profile is robust, as it exists even if the scattering intensity has moderate radial and time dependences, subject to some limitations on the scattering rates discussed in the text. We analyze the X-ray properties for a sample of 23 high probability AGN candidates with ultraviolet variability identified in Wasleske et al. (2022). Using data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory and the XMM-Newton Observatory, we find 11/23 nuclei are X-ray detected. We use SED modeling to compute star formation rates and show that the X-ray luminosities are typically in excess of the X-ray emission expected from star formation by at least an order of magnitude. Interestingly, this sample shows a diversity of optical spectroscopic properties. We explore possible reasons for why some objects lack optical spectroscopic signatures of black hole activity while still being UV variable and X-ray bright. We find that host galaxy stellar emission and obscuration from gas and dust are all potential factors. We study where this sample falls on relationships such as $\alpha_{\rm OX}-L_{2500}$ and $L_{X}-L_{IR}$ and find that some of the sample falls outside the typical scatter for these relations, indicating they differ from the standard quasar population. With the diversity of optical spectroscopic signatures and varying impacts of dust and stellar emissions on our sample, these results emphasizes the strength of variability in selecting the most complete set of AGN, regardless of other host galaxy properties., Comment: 19 pages, 10 figures. We present multi-wavelength data and analysis, including new FUV AstroSat/UVIT observations of the spiral galaxy UGC 10420 (z=0.032), a member of the cluster Abell 2199. UGC 10420 is present on the edge of the X-ray emitting region of the cluster at a distance of ~ 680 kpc from the centre. The FUV data shows intense knots of star formation on the leading edge of the galaxy, accompanied by a tail of the same on the diametrically opposite side. Our analysis shows that the images of the galaxy disk in the optical and mid-infrared are much smaller in size than that in the FUV. While the broadband optical colours of UGC 10420 are typical of a post-starburst galaxy, the SFR derived from a UV-to-IR spectral energy distribution is at least a factor of nine higher than that expected for a star-forming field galaxy of similar mass at its redshift. A careful removal of the contribution of the diffuse intracluster gas shows that the significant diffuse X-ray emission associated with the inter-stellar medium of UGC 10420 has a temperature, T_X = 0.24^{+0.09}_{-0.06} keV (0.4-2.0 keV) and luminosity, L_X = 1.8+/-0.9 x 10^{40} erg/s, which are typical of the X-ray emission from late-type spiral galaxies. Our analysis favours a scenario where the interaction of a galaxy with the hot intra-cluster medium of the cluster, perturbs the gas in the galaxy causing starburst in the leading edge of the disk. On the other hand, the turbulence thus developed may also push some of the gas out of the disk. Interactions between the gas ejected from the galaxy and the intracluster medium can then locally trigger star formation in the wake of the galaxy experiencing ram-pressure stripping. Our data however does not rule out the possibility of a flyby encounter with a neighbouring galaxy, although no relevant candidates are observed in the vicinity of UGC 10420. Galaxies and their dark-matter halos are commonly presupposed to spin. But it is an open question how this spin manifests in halos and soliton cores made of scalar dark matter (SDM, including fuzzy/wave/ultralight-axion dark matter). One way spin could manifest in a necessarily irrotational SDM velocity field is with a vortex. But recent results have cast doubt on this scenario, finding that vortices are generally unstable except with substantial repulsive self-interaction. In this paper, we introduce an alternative route to stability: in both (non-relativistic) analytic calculations and simulations, a black hole or other central mass at least as massive as a soliton can stabilize a vortex within it. We present a photometric study of the resolved stellar populations in And IX, the closest satellite to the M31, a metal-poor and low-mass dwarf spheroidal galaxy. We estimate a distance modulus of $24.56_{-0.15}^{+0.05}$ mag based on the tip of the red giant branch (TRGB). By probing the variability of asymptotic giant branch stars (AGB), we study the star formation history of And IX. We identified 50 long period variables (LPVs) in And IX using the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT) in two filters, Sloan $i'$ and Harris $V$. In this study, we selected LPVs within two half-light radii with amplitudes in the range of 0.2-2.20 mag. It is found that the peak of star formation reaches $\sim$ $8.2\pm3.1\times10^{-4}$ M_sun yr$^{-1}$ at $\approx 6$ Gyr ago. Our findings suggest an outside-in galaxy formation scenario for And IX with a quenching occurring $3.65_{-1.52}^{+0.13}$ Gyr ago with the SFR in the order of $2.0\times10^{-4}$ M_sun yr$^{-1}$ at redshift < $0.5$. We calculate the total stellar mass by integrating the star formation rate (SFR) within two half-light radii $\sim$ $3.0\times10^5$ M_sun. By employing the spectral energy distribution (SED) fitting for observed LPVs in And IX, we evaluate the mass-loss rate in the range of $10^{-7}$ $\leq$ $\dot{M}$ $\leq$ $10^{-5}$ M_sun yr$^{-1}$. Finally, we show that the total mass deposition to the interstellar medium (ISM) is $\sim$ $2.4\times10^{-4}$ M_sun yr$^{-1}$ from the C- and O-rich type of dust-enshrouded LPVs. The ratio of the total mass returned to the ISM by LPVs to the total stellar mass is $\sim 8.0\times10^{-10}$ yr$^{-1}$, and so at this rate, it would take $\sim$ 1 Gyr to reproduce this galaxy, Accepted for publication in ApJ

We present recent Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) 5 GHz radio observations of the nearby, luminous Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 1068 for comparison to similar VLBA observations made on 1997 April 26. By cross-correlating the positions of emitting regions across both epochs, we find that spatially-resolved extra-nuclear radio knots in this system have sub-relativistic transverse speeds (v < 0.1c). We discuss sources of the observed knots and how the radio emission relates to additional phases of gas in the central ~150 pcs of this system. We suggest that the most likely explanation for the observed emission is synchrotron radiation formed by shocked host media via interactions between AGN winds and the host environment., 13 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

We present a kinematic analysis of the Small Magellanic Cloud using 3700 spectra extracted from the European Southern Observatory archive. We used data from Gaia and near-infrared photometry to select stellar populations and discard Galactic foreground stars. The sample includes main-sequence, red giant branch and red clump stars, observed with the Fibre Large Array Multi Wavelength Spectrograph. The spectra have a resolving power lambda/Delta(lambda) from 6500 to 38000. We derive radial velocities by employing a full spectrum fitting method using a penalised pixel fitting routine. We obtain a mean radial velocity for the galaxy of 159+/-2 km/s, with a velocity dispersion of 33+/-2 km/s. Our velocities agree with literature estimates for similar (young or old) stellar populations. The radial velocity of stars in the Wing and bar-like structure differ as a consequence of the dynamical interaction with the Large Magellanic Cloud. The higher radial velocity of young main-sequence stars in the bar compared to that of supergiants can be attributed to star formation around 40 Myr ago from gas already influenced by tidal stripping. Similarly, young main-sequence stars in the northern part of the bar, resulting from a prominent episode 25 Myr ago, have a higher radial velocity than stars in the southern part. Radial velocity differences between the northern and southern bar over densities are also traced by giant stars. The Serpens Molecular Cloud is one of the most active sites of ongoing star formation at a distance of about 300 pc, and hence is very well-suited for studies of young low-mass stars and sub-stellar objects. In this paper, for the Serpens star forming region, we find potential members of the Young Stellar Objects population from the Gaia DR3 data and study their kinematics and distribution. We compile a catalog of 656 YSOs from available catalogs ranging from X-ray to the infrared. We use this as a reference set and cross-match it to find 87 Gaia DR3 member stars to produce a control sample with revised parameters. We queried the DR3 catalog with these parameters and found 1196 stars. We then applied three different density-based machine learning algorithms (DBSCAN, OPTICS and HDBSCAN) to this sample and found potential YSOs. The three clustering algorithms identified a common set of 822 YSO members from Gaia DR3 in this region. The study of dynamically cold stellar streams reveals information about the gravitational potential where they reside and provides important constraints on dark matter properties. However, their intrinsic faintness makes detection beyond Local environments highly challenging. Here we report the detection of an extremely faint stellar stream (mu_g,max = 29.5 mag arcsec-2) with an extraordinarily coherent and thin morphology in the Coma Galaxy Cluster. This Giant Coma Stream spans 510 kpc in length and appears as a free-floating structure located at a projected distance of 0.8 Mpc from the center of Coma. We do not identify any potential galaxy remnant or core, and the stream structure appears featureless in our data. We interpret the Giant Coma Stream as being a recently accreted, tidally disrupting dwarf of M* ~ 10^8 Msun, and report a case with similar characteristics within the Illustris-TNG50 simulation. Our work shows the presence of free-floating, extremely faint and thin stellar streams in galaxy clusters, widening the environmental context for their promising future applications in the study of dark matter properties., Comment: Submitted to A&A. The recent discovery of a spiral pattern in the vertical kinematic structure in the solar neighborhood provides a prime opportunity to study non-equilibrium dynamics in the Milky Way from local stellar kinematics. Furthermore, results from simulations indicate that even in a limited volume, differences in stellar orbital histories allow us to trace variations in the initial perturbation across large regions of the disk. We present $\texttt{ESCARGOT}$, a novel algorithm for studying these variations in both simulated and observed data sets. $\texttt{ESCARGOT}$ automatically extracts key quantities from the structure of a given phase spiral, including the time since perturbation and the perturbation mode. We test $\texttt{ESCARGOT}$ on simulated data and show that it is capable of accurately recovering information about the time since the perturbation occurred as well as subtle differences in phase spiral morphology due to stellar location in the disk at the time of perturbation. We apply $\texttt{ESCARGOT}$ to kinematic data from data release 3 of the ${\it Gaia}$ mission in bins of guiding radius. We show that similar structural differences in morphology occur in the ${\it Gaia}$ phase spirals as a function of stellar orbital history. These results indicate that the phase spirals are the product of a complex dynamical response in the disk with large-scale coupling between different regions of phase space., Comment: 20 pages, 12 figures

Tidal disruption events (TDEs) take place when a star ventures too close to a supermassive black hole (SMBH) and becomes ruptured. One of the leading proposed physical mechanisms often invoked in the literature involves weak two-body interactions experienced by the population of stars within the host SMBH's sphere of influence, commonly referred to as two-body relaxation. This process can alter the angular momentum of stars at large distances and place them into nearly radial orbits, thus driving them to disruption. On the other hand, gravitational perturbations from an SMBH companion via the eccentric Kozai-Lidov (EKL) mechanism have also been proposed as a promising stellar disruption channel. Here we demonstrate that the combination of EKL and two-body relaxation in SMBH binaries is imperative for building a comprehensive picture of the rates of TDEs. Here we explore how the density profile of the surrounding stellar distribution and the binary orbital parameters of an SMBH companion influence the rate of TDEs. We show that this combined channel naturally produces disruptions at a rate that is consistent with observations and also naturally forms repeated TDEs, where a bound star is partially disrupted on multiple orbits. Recent observations show stars being disrupted in short-period orbits, which is challenging to explain when these mechanisms are considered independently. However, the diffusive effect of two-body relaxation, combined with the secular nature of the eccentricity excitations from EKL, is found to drive stars on short eccentric orbits at a much higher rate., Comment: Fixed affiliation

Recent observations made by the JWST have revealed a number of massive galaxies at high redshift ($z$). The presence of these galaxies appears at odds with the current $\Lambda$CDM cosmology. Here we investigate the possibility of alleviating the tension by incorporating uncertainties from three sources in counting massive galaxies at high $z$: cosmic variance, error in stellar mass estimate, and contribution by backsplash. We find that each of the sources can significantly increase the cumulative stellar mass density $\rho_*(>M_*)$ at the high-mass end, and the combination of them can boost the density by more than one order of magnitude. Assuming a star formation efficiency of $\epsilon_* \sim 0.5$, cosmic variance alone can reduce the tension to $2\sigma$ level, except the most massive galaxy at $z=8$. Including in addition a lognormal dispersion with a width of 0.3 dex in the stellar mass can bring the observed stellar mass density at $z \sim 7 - 10$ to the $2\sigma$ range of the cosmic variance. The tension is completely eliminated when gas stripped from backsplash halos is also taken into account. Our results highlight the importance of fully modeling uncertainties when interpreting observational data of rare objects. We use the constrained simulation, ELUCID, to investigate the descendants of high $z$ massive galaxies. We find that a significant portion of these galaxies end up in massive halos with mass $M_{\rm halo} > 10^{13} h^{-1}M_\odot $ at $z=0$. A large fraction of central galaxies in $M_{\rm halo} \geqslant 10^{14.5} h^{-1}M_\odot$ halos today are predicted to contain significant amounts of ancient stars formed in massive galaxies at $z\sim 8$. Individual abundances in the Milky Way disc record stellar birth properties (e.g. age, birth radius ($R_{\rm birth}$)) and capture the diversity of the star-forming environments over time. Assuming an analytical relationship between ([Fe/H], [$\alpha$/Fe]) and $R_{\rm birth}$, we examine the distributions of individual abundances [X/Fe] of elements C, O, Mg, Si, Ca ($\alpha$), Al (odd-z), Mn (iron-peak), Y, and Ba (neutron-capture) for stars in the Milky Way. We want to understand how these elements might differentiate environments across the disc. We assign tracks of $R_{\rm birth}$ in the [$\alpha$/Fe] vs. [Fe/H] plane as informed by expectations from simulations for $\sim 59,000$ GALAH stars in the solar neighborhood ($R\sim7-9$ kpc) which also have inferred ages. Our formalism for $R_{\rm birth}$ shows that older stars ($\sim$10 Gyrs) have a $R_{\rm birth}$ distribution with smaller mean values (i.e., $\bar{R}_{\mbox{birth}}$$\sim5\pm0.8$ kpc) compared to younger stars ($\sim6$ Gyrs; $\bar{R}_{\mbox{birth}}$$\sim10\pm1.5$ kpc), for a given [Fe/H], consistent with inside-out growth. The $\alpha$-, odd-z, and iron-peak element abundances decrease as a function of $R_{\rm birth}$, whereas the neutron-capture abundances increase. The $R_{\rm birth}$-[Fe/H] gradient we measure is steeper compared to the present-day gradient (-0.067 dex/kpc vs -0.058 dex/kpc), which we also find true for $R_{\rm birth}$-[X/Fe] gradients. These results (i) showcase the feasibility of relating the birth radius of stars to their element abundances, (ii) the abundance gradients across $R_{\rm birth}$ are steeper than those over current radius, and (iii) offer an observational comparison to expectations on element abundance distributions from hydrodynamical simulations., Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures. Globular clusters are relics of the early Universe and they hold clues to many aspects of stellar and galactic evolution. We propose to point the Roman Space Telescope at one or more clusters either as a part of or as an extension of the Galactic Bulge Time Domain Survey. This would provide a unique opportunity to apply the powerful toolkit of asteroseismology to a globular cluster, an observation that is largely out of reach for any other time-domain photometric missions. In this white paper we present the possible targets in the vicinity of the notional survey fields. Potential science cases include precise determination of stellar parameters throughout the cluster, accurate estimation of the integrated mass loss for metal-poor and metal-rich clusters, asteroseismic analysis and mass estimation for RR Lyrae stars, and determination of the seismic ages of clusters. In this chapter, we explore the origins of cometary material and discuss the clues cometary composition provides in the context of the origin of our solar system. The review focuses on both cometary refractory and volatile materials, which jointly provide crucial information about the processes that shaped the solar system into what it is today. Both areas have significantly advanced over the past decade. We also view comets more broadly and discuss compositions considering laboratory studies of cometary materials, including interplanetary dust particles and meteoritic material that are potential cometary samples, along with meteorites, and in situ/remote studies of cometary comae. In our review, we focus on key areas from elemental/molecular compositions, isotopic ratios, carbonaceous and silicate refractories, short-lived radionuclides, and solar system dynamics that can be used as probes of the solar birth environment. The outskirts of galaxy clusters host complex interactions between the intra-cluster and circumcluster media. During cluster evolution, ram-pressure stripped gas clumps from infalling substructures break the uniformity of the gas distribution, which may lead to observational biases at large radii. Assessing the contribution of gas clumping, however, poses observational challenges, and requires robust X-ray measurements in the background-dominated regime of cluster outskirts. The aims of this work are isolating faint gas clumps from field sources and from the diffuse emission in the Abell 1795 galaxy cluster, then probing their impact on the observed surface brightness and thermodynamic profiles. We performed imaging analysis on deep Chandra ACIS-I observations of the outskirts of Abell 1795, extending to $\sim1.5r_{200}$ with full azimuthal coverage. We built the $0.7-2.0$ keV surface brightness distribution from the adaptively binned image of the diffuse emission and looked for clumps as $>2\sigma$ outliers. Classification of the clump candidates was based on Chandra and SDSS data. Benefiting from the Chandra point source list, we extracted the thermodynamic profiles of the intra-cluster medium from the associated Suzaku XIS data out to $r_{200}$ using multiple point source and clump candidate removal approaches. We identified 24 clump candidates in the Abell 1795 field, most of which are likely associated with background objects, including AGN, galaxies, and clusters or groups of galaxies, as opposed to intrinsic gas clumps. These sources had minimal impact on the surface brightness and thermodynamic profiles of the cluster emission. After correcting for clump candidates, the measured entropy profile still deviates from a pure gravitational collapse, suggesting complex physics at play in the outskirts, including potential electron-ion non-equilibrium and non-thermal pressure support., Comment: 22 pages, 14 figures, submitted to Astronomy & Astrophysics

Very massive stars (VMS) up to 200-300 $M_\odot$ have been found in the Local Universe. If they would lose little mass they produce intermediate-mass black holes or pair-instability supernovae (PISNe). Until now, VMS modellers have extrapolated mass-loss vs. metallicity ($Z$) exponents from optically-thin winds, resulting in a range of PISN thresholds that might be unrealistically high in $Z$, as VMS develop optically-thick winds. We utilize the transition mass-loss rate of Vink and Gr\"afener (2012) that accurately predicts mass-loss rates of Of/WNh ("slash") stars that characterize the morphological transition from absorption-dominated O-type spectra to emission-dominated WNh spectra. We develop a wind efficiency framework, where optically thin winds transition to enhanced winds, enabling us to study VMS evolution at high redshift where individual stars cannot be resolved. We present a MESA grid covering $Z_\odot/2$ to $Z_\odot/100$. VMS above the transition evolve towards lower luminosity, skipping the cool supergiant phase but directly forming pure He stars at the end of hydrogen burning. Below the transition, VMS evolve as cooler luminous blue variables (LBVs) or yellow hypergiants (YHGs), naturally approaching the Eddington limit. Strong winds in this YHG/LBV regime -- combined with a degeneracy in luminosity -- result in a mass-loss runaway where a decrease in mass increases wind mass loss. Our models indicate an order-of-magnitude lower threshold than usually assumed, at $Z_\odot/20$ due to our mass-loss runaway. While future work on LBV mass loss could affect the PISN threshold, our framework will be critical for establishing definitive answers on the PISN threshold and galactic chemical evolution modelling., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS, 18 pages, 8 figures, 2 appendix

The formation of the extended thin disc is the most spectacular event of our Galaxy in the past $\sim8$\,Gyr. To unveil this process, obtaining precise and accurate stellar ages for a large sample of stars is essential although challenging. In this work, we present the asteroseismic age determination of 5306 red giant branch stars using \kepler{} and LAMOST data, with a thorough examination of how the age determination is affected by the choice of different temperature scales and stellar models. Thanks to the high precision of the asteroseismic and spectroscopic parameters of our sample stars, we are able to achieve age determination with an average accuracy of 12 per cent. However, the age determination is sensitively dependent on the adopted temperature scale, as 50\,K difference in effective temperature may cause larger than 10 per cent systematic uncertainty in the age estimates. Using the ages derived with the most plausible set of the temperature scale, we study the age distribution of the chemical thin disc stars, and present an estimate of the formation epoch of the first Galactic thin disc stars. We find that the first (oldest) thin disc stars have an age of $9.5^{+0.5(\rm rand.)+0.5(\rm sys.)}_{-0.4(\rm rand.)-0.3(\rm sys.)}$\,Gyr, where the systematic uncertainties reflect ages estimated using different stellar evolutionary models. At this epoch, the Galactic thick disc was still forming stars, indicating there is a time window when both the thin and thick discs of our Galaxy were forming stars together. Moreover, we find that the first thin disc stars exhibit a broad distribution of Galactocentric radii, suggesting that the inner and outer thin discs began to form simultaneously., Comment: 17 pages, 13 figures, accepted by MNRAS

Fragmentation is a key step in the process of transforming clouds (and their substructures such as filaments, clumps, and cores) into protostars. The thermal gas pressure and gravitational collapse are believed to be the primary agents governing this process, referred to as the thermal Jeans fragmentation. However, the contributions of other factors (such as magnetic fields and turbulence) to the fragmentation process remain less explored. In this work, we have tested possible fragmentation mechanisms by estimating the mean core mass and mean inter-core separation of the B213 filament. We have used the $\sim$14" resolution James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) Submillimetre Common-User Bolometer Array 2 (SCUBA-2)/POL-2 850 $\mu$m dust continuum map and combined it with a Planck 850 $\mu$m map and Herschel data. In this article, I review past, current, and future advances on the study of radio-loud AGN (RLAGN; radio-loud quasars and radio galaxies) lifecycles exclusively in the remnant and restarting phases. I focus on their dynamics and energetics as inferred from radio observations while discussing their radiative lifetimes, population statistics, and trends in their physical characteristics. I briefly summarize multi-wavelength observations, particularly X-rays, that have enabled studies of the large-scale environments of RLAGN in order to understand their role in feedback. We present the star formation histories (SFHs) of early-type dwarf galaxies, dSphs and dEs, in the local universe within z=0.01. The SFHs of early-type dwarf galaxies are characterized by pre-enriched, metal-poor old stellar populations, absence of moderately old stars that have ages of a few Gyr. There are some differences in the SFHs of dSphs and dEs. In particular, dSphs formed old ($\gtrsim10$ Gyr old) metal-poor stars $\sim2$ times more than dEs. The effects of reionization and feedback from supernova explosions are thought to be strong enough to remove the gas left, which prevent moderately old stellar populations in dSphs. In contrast, the ejected gas are not completely removed from dEs and fall back to ignite burst of star formation at a few Gyr after the first period of violent bursts of star formation, showing a suppression of star formation at lookback time $\approx 9.6$ Gyr. The second peak of star formation at lookback time $\approx 4.5$ Gyr in dEs produce moderately old stellar populations. Distinction between dSphs and dEs is useful to examine the SFHS of the early-type dwarfs since the cumulative SFHs are most closely related to their morphology. The stellar mass plays an important role in the SFHs of the early-type dwarfs as a driver of star formation, especially in galaxies with primordial origin., Comment: 16 pages, 16 figures

The Euclid mission will conduct an extragalactic survey over 15000 deg$^2$ of the extragalactic sky. The spectroscopic channel of the Near-Infrared Spectrometer and Photometer (NISP) has a resolution of $R\sim450$ for its blue and red grisms that collectively cover the $0.93$--$1.89 $\micron;range. NISP will obtain spectroscopic redshifts for $3\times10^7$ galaxies for the experiments on galaxy clustering, baryonic acoustic oscillations, and redshift space distortion. The wavelength calibration must be accurate within $5$\AA to avoid systematics in the redshifts and downstream cosmological parameters. The NISP pre-flight dispersion laws for the grisms were obtained on the ground using a Fabry-Perot etalon. Launch vibrations, zero gravity conditions, and thermal stabilisation may alter these dispersion laws, requiring an in-flight recalibration. To this end, we use the emission lines in the spectra of compact planetary nebulae (PNe), which were selected from a PN data base. To ensure completeness of the PN sample, we developed a novel technique to identify compact and strong line emitters in Gaia spectroscopic data using the Gaia spectra shape coefficients. We obtained VLT/X-SHOOTER spectra from $0.3$ to $2.5$ \micron;for 19 PNe in excellent seeing conditions and a wide slit, mimicking Euclid's slitless spectroscopy mode but with 10 times higher spectral resolution. Additional observations of one northern PN were obtained in the $0.80$--$1.90$ \micron range with the GMOS and GNIRS instruments at the Gemini North observatory. The collected spectra were combined into an atlas of heliocentric vacuum wavelengths with a joint statistical and systematic accuracy of 0.1 \AA in the optical and 0.3 \AA in the near-infrared. Through two-dimensional radiation-hydrodynamical simulations, we investigate the spectral properties of ionized gas irradiated by an active galactic nucleus with a supermassive black hole of 10^7 Msun. For the gas inside the dust-sublimation radius (r ~ 10^{-2} pc), we conduct post-process pseudo-three-dimensional calculations utilizing the spectral synthesis code Cloudy. We show that we can reproduce various broad emission lines in optical and ultraviolet wavelengths. The line profiles change depending on the viewing angles even for a small range from the rational axis, i.e., 5-30 degrees; most lines, such as Halpha, are characterized by a double-peaked profile, reflecting that the emissions are originated in the surface of the rotating disk. By contrast, high-ionization emission lines such as CIV 1549 show a double-peaked profile for a nearly face-on view, as these lines derive from the fast outflowing gas from the disk surface. Our results suggest that some properties of the bright UV-optical emission lines observed in Seyfert-like AGNs can be caused by the radiation-driven fountain flow inside the dust sublimation radius., Comment: ApJ submitted

The final phase of the reionization process can be probed by rest-frame UV absorption spectra of quasars at z>6, shedding light on the properties of the diffuse intergalactic medium within the first Gyr of the Universe. The ESO Large Programme "XQR-30: the ultimate XSHOOTER legacy survey of quasars at z~5.8-6.6" dedicated ~250 hours of observations at the VLT to create a homogeneous and high-quality sample of spectra of 30 luminous quasars at z~6, covering the rest wavelength range from the Lyman limit to beyond the MgII emission. Twelve quasar spectra of similar quality from the XSHOOTER archive were added to form the enlarged XQR-30 sample, corresponding to a total of ~350 hours of on-source exposure time. The median effective resolving power of the 42 spectra is R~11400 and 9800 in the VIS and NIR arm, respectively. The signal-to-noise ratio per 10 km/s pixel ranges from ~11 to 114 at $\lambda \simeq 1285$ \AA rest frame, with a median value of ~29. We describe the observations, data reduction and analysis of the spectra, together with some first results based on the E-XQR-30 sample. New photometry in the H and K bands are provided for the XQR-30 quasars, together with composite spectra whose characteristics reflect the large absolute magnitudes of the sample. Recent observations of GN-z11 with JWST/NIRSpec revealed numerous oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, and helium emission lines at $z=10.6$. Using the measured line fluxes, we derive abundance ratios of individual elements within the interstellar medium (ISM) of this super-luminous galaxy. Driven by the unusually-bright NIII] $\lambda$1750 and NIV] $\lambda$1486 emission lines (and by comparison faint OIII] $\lambda\lambda$1660, 1666 lines), our fiducial model prefers log(N/O)>-0.25, greater than four times solar and in stark contrast to lower-redshift star-forming galaxies. The derived log(C/O)>-0.78, ($\approx$30 % solar) is also elevated with respect to galaxies of similar metallicity (12+log(O/H)$\approx7.82$), although less at odds with lower-redshift measurements. Given the long timescale typically expected to enrich nitrogen with stellar winds, traditional scenarios require a very fine-tuned formation history to reproduce such an elevated N/O. We find no compelling evidence that nitrogen enhancement in GN-z11 can be explained by enrichment from metal-free Population III stars. Interestingly, yields from runaway stellar collisions in a dense stellar cluster or a tidal disruption event provide promising solutions to give rise to these unusual emission lines at $z=10.6$, and explain the resemblance between GN-z11 and a nitrogen-loud quasar. We present a systematic search for radio counterparts of novae using the Australian Square Kilometer Array Pathfinder (ASKAP). Our search used the Rapid ASKAP Continuum Survey, which covered the entire sky south of declination $+41^{\circ}$ ($\sim34,000$ square degrees) at a central frequency of 887.5 MHz, the Variables and Slow Transients Pilot Survey, which covered $\sim5,000$ square degrees per epoch (887.5 MHz), and other ASKAP pilot surveys, which covered $\sim200-2000$ square degrees with 2-12 hour integration times. We crossmatched radio sources found in these surveys over a two-year period, from April 2019 to August 2021, with 440 previously identified optical novae, and found radio counterparts for four novae: V5668 Sgr, V1369 Cen, YZ Ret, and RR Tel. Follow-up observations with the Australian Telescope Compact Array confirm the ejecta thinning across all observed bands with spectral analysis indicative of synchrotron emission in V1369 Cen and YZ Ret. Our light-curve fit with the Hubble Flow model yields a value of $1.65\pm 0.17 \times 10^{-4} \rm \:M_\odot$ for the mass ejected in V1369 Cen. We also derive a peak surface brightness temperature of $250\pm80$ K for YZ Ret. Using Hubble Flow model simulated radio lightcurves for novae, we demonstrate that with a 5$\sigma$ sensitivity limit of 1.5 mJy in 15-min survey observations, we can detect radio emission up to a distance of 4 kpc if ejecta mass is in the range $10^{-3}\rm \:M_\odot$, and upto 1 kpc if ejecta mass is in the range $10^{-5}-10^{-3}\rm \:M_\odot$. Our study highlights ASKAP's ability to contribute to future radio observations for novae within a distance of 1 kpc hosted on white dwarfs with masses $0.4-1.25\:\rm M_\odot$ , and within a distance of 4 kpc hosted on white dwarfs with masses $0.4-1.0\:\rm M_\odot$., Comment: This paper has been accepted for publication in PASA. (abridged) We present simulations of halo formation and evolution in scalar field dark matter (SFDM) cosmologies in the Thomas-Fermi regime, aka ``SFDM-TF", where a strong repulsive 2-particle self-interaction (SI) is included, being a valuable alternative to CDM, with the potential to resolve its ``cusp-core" problem. In general, SFDM behaves like a quantum fluid. Previous literature has presented two fluid approximations for SFDM-TF, as well as simulations of halo formation. These results confirmed earlier expectations and are generally in mutual agreement, but discrepancies were also reported. Therefore, we perform dedicated 3D cosmological simulations for the SFDM-TF model, applying both fluid approximations, as well as for CDM. Our results are very well in accordance with previous works and extend upon them, in that we can explain the reported discrepancies as a result of different simulation setups. We find some interesting details: The evolution of both SFDM-TF and CDM halos follows a 2-stage process. In the early stage, the density profile in the center becomes close to a $(n=1.5)$-polytropic core, dominated by an "effective" velocity-dispersion pressure $P_{\sigma}$ which is common to both dark matter models. Consecutively, for CDM halos, the core transitions into a central cusp. In SFDM-TF halos, the additional pressure $P_\text{SI}$ due to SI determines the second stage of the evolution, where the central region follows closely a $(n=1)$-polytropic core, embedded in a nearly isothermal envelope, i.e. the outskirts are similar to CDM. We also encounter a new effect, namely a late-time expansion of both polytropic core plus envelope, because the size of the almost isothermal halo envelope is affected by the expansion of the background universe. So, an initial primordial core of $\sim 100$ pc can evolve into a larger core of $\gtrsim 1$ kpc, even without feedback from baryons., Comment: submitted to Phys.Rev.D; 26 pages, 16 figures

There are 214 X-ray point-sources ($L_{\rm X}>10^{35} \mathrm{erg/s}$) identified as X-ray binaries (XRBs) in the nearby spiral galaxy M83. Since XRBs are powered by accretion onto a neutron star or a black hole from a companion/donor star these systems are promising progenitors of merging double compact objects (DCOs): black hole - black hole (BH-BH), black hole - neutron star (BH-NS), or neutron star - neutron star (NS-NS) systems. The connection (i.e. XRBs evolving into DCOs) may provide some hints to the yet unanswered question: what is the origin of the LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA mergers? Available observations do not allow to determine what will be the final fate of the XRBs observed in M83. Yet, we can use evolutionary model of isolated binaries to reproduce the population of XRBs in M83 by matching model XRBs numbers/types/luminosities to observations. Knowing the detailed properties of M83 model XRBs (donor/accretor masses, their evolutionary ages and orbits) we follow their evolution to the death of donor stars to check whether any merging DCOs are formed. Although all merging DCOs in our isolated binary evolution model go through the XRB phase (defined as reaching X-ray luminosity from RLOF/wind accretion onto NS/BH above $10^{35}$ erg/s), only very few XRBs evolve to form merging (in Hubble time) DCOs. For M83 with its solar-like metallicity stars and continiuous star-formation we find that only $\sim 1-2\%$ of model XRBs evolve into merging DCOs depending on the adopted evolutionary physics. The Lunar Surface Electromagnetics Explorer 'LuSEE Night' is a low frequency radio astronomy experiment that will be delivered to the farside of the Moon by the NASA Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program in late 2025 or early 2026. The payload system is being developed jointly by NASA and the US Department of Energy (DOE) and consists of a 4 channel, 50 MHz Nyquist baseband receiver system and 2 orthogonal $\sim$6m tip-to-tip electric dipole antennas. The photoionization model of narrow-line regions (NLRs) in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) has been investigated for decades. Many published models are restricted to simple linear scaling abundance relations, dust-free assumption, uniform AGN radiation field, and using one specific photoionization code, which restricts them from providing a satisfactory prediction on a broad range of AGN observations. Through a comprehensive investigation, here we present how the choice of abundance scaling relations, dust inclusion, AGN radiation fields, and different photoionization codes CLOUDY and MAPPINGS affect the predictions on the strength of strong UV, optical, and infrared emission lines. We find the dust-depleted radiation pressure-dominated AGN model built with the latest non-linear abundance sets and photoionization code MAPPINGS V are consistent with AGN observations across a broad range of wavelengths. The hierarchical structure formation paradigm predicts the formation of pairs of supermassive black holes in merging galaxies. When both (or one) members of the SMBH pair are unobscured AGNs, the system can be identified as a dual (or offset) AGN. Quantifying the abundance of these AGN pairs as functions of separation, redshift and host properties is crucial to understanding SMBH formation and AGN fueling in the broad context of galaxy formation. The High Latitude Wide Area Survey with Roman, with its unprecedented combination of sensitivity, spatial resolution, area and NIR wavelength coverage, will revolutionize the study of galactic-scale environments of SMBH pairs. Using a large sample of galaxies taken from the Cosmology and Astrophysics with MachinE Learning Simulations (CAMELS) project, a suite of hydrodynamic simulations varying both cosmological and astrophysical parameters, we train a normalizing flow (NF) to map the probability of various galaxy and halo properties conditioned on astrophysical and cosmological parameters. By leveraging the learnt conditional relationships we can explore a wide range of interesting questions, whilst enabling simple marginalisation over nuisance parameters. We demonstrate how the model can be used as a generative model for arbitrary values of our conditional parameters; we generate halo masses and matched galaxy properties, and produce realisations of the halo mass function as well as a number of galaxy scaling relations and distribution functions. We present an updated catalog of 46,753 radial velocity (RV) standard stars selected from the APOGEE DR17. These stars cover the Northern and Southern Hemispheres almost evenly, with 62% being red giants and 38% being main-sequence stars. These RV standard stars are stable on a baseline longer than 200 days (54% longer than one year and 10% longer than five years) with a median stability better than 215 m s$^{-1}$. The average observation number of those stars are 5 and each observation is required to have spectral-to-noise-ratio (SNR) greater than 50 and RV measurement error smaller than 500 m s$^{-1}$. Based on the new APOGEE RV standard star catalog, we have checked the RV zero points (RVZPs) for current large-scale stellar spectroscopic surveys including RAVE, LAMOST, GALAH and Gaia. By carefully analysis, we estimate their mean RVZP to be $+0.149$ km s$^{-1}$, $+4.574$ km s$^{-1}$ (for LRS), $-0.031$ km s$^{-1}$ and $+0.014$ km s$^{-1}$, respectively, for the four surveys. In the RAVE, LAMOST (for MRS), GALAH and Gaia surveys, RVZP exhibits systematic trend with stellar parameters (mainly [Fe/H], $T_{\rm{eff}}$, log $g$, $G_{\rm{BP}}-G_{\rm{RP}}$ and $G_{\rm{RVS}}$).
