In this paper we are concerned with certain invariants of modules, called reducing invariants, which have been recently introduced and studied by Araya-Celikbas and Araya-Takahashi. We raise the question whether the residue field of each commutative Noetherian local ring has finite reducing projective dimension and obtain an affirmative answer for the question for a large class of local rings. Furthermore, we construct new examples of modules of infinite projective dimension that have finite reducing projective dimension, and study several fundamental properties of reducing dimensions, especially properties under local homomorphisms of local rings., Comment: Comments are welcome!

In this note we study two-dimensional CFTs at large global charge. Since the large-charge sector decouples from the dynamics, it does not control the dynamics and an EFT construction that works in higher-dimensional theories fails. It is however possible to use large charge in a double-scaling limit when another controlling parameter is present. We find some general features of the spectrum of models that admit an NLSM description in a WKB approximation and use the large-charge sector of the solvable $SU(2)_k$ WZW model to argue the regimes of applicability of both the large-Q expansion and the double-scaling limit., Comment: 18 pages. Motivated by a recent result of Yoshino, and the work of Bergh on reducible complexity, we introduce reducing versions of invariants of finitely generated modules over commutative Noetherian local rings. Our main result considers modules which have finite reducing Gorenstein dimension, and determines a criterion for such modules to be totally reflexive in terms of the vanishing of Ext. Along the way we give examples and applications, and in particular, prove that a Cohen-Macaulay local ring with canonical module is Gorenstein if and only if the canonical module has finite reducing Gorenstein dimension.

The celebrated Auslander-Reiten Conjecture, on the vanishing of self extensions of a module, is one of the long-standing conjectures in ring theory. Although it is still open, there are several results in the literature that establish the conjecture over Gorenstein rings under certain conditions. The purpose of this article is to obtain extensions of such results over Cohen-Macaulay local rings that admit canonical modules. For an ideal I m , n generated by all square-free monomials of degree m in a polynomial ring R with n variables, we obtain a specific embedding of a canonical module of R / I m , n to R / I m , n itself. The construction of this explicit embedding depends on a minimal free R-resolution of an ideal generated by I m , n . Using this embedding, we give a resolution of connected sums of several copies of certain Artin k -algebras where k is a field.

In 2012, Ananthnarayan, Avramov and Moore gave a new construction of Gorenstein rings from two Gorenstein local rings, called their connected sum. In this article, we investigate conditions on the associated graded ring of a Gorenstein Artin local ring Q, which force it to be a connected sum over its residue field. In particular, we recover some results regarding short, and stretched, Gorenstein Artin rings. A celebrated conjecture of Auslander and Reiten claims that a finitely generated module $M$ that has no extensions with $M\oplus \Lambda$ over an Artin algebra $\Lambda$ must be projective. This conjecture is widely open in general, even for modules over commutative Noetherian local rings. Over such rings, we prove that a large class of ideals satisfy the extension condition proposed in the aforementioned conjecture of Auslander and Reiten. We answer a question of Celikbas, Dao, and Takahashi by establishing the following characterization of Gorenstein rings: a commutative noetherian local ring $(R,\mathfrak m)$ is Gorenstein if and only if it admits an integrally closed $\mathfrak m$-primary ideal of finite Gorenstein dimension. This is accomplished through a detailed study of certain test complexes. Tensor products usually have nonzero torsion. This is a central theme of Auslander's paper "Modules over unramified regular local rings"; the theme continues in the work of Huneke and Wiegand. The main focus in this note is on tensor powers of a finitely generated module over a local ring. Also, we study torsion-free modules N with the property that its tensor product with any module M has torsion, unless M is very special. We study homological properties of test modules that are, in principle, modules that detect finite homological dimensions. The main outcome of our results is a generalization of a classical theorem of Auslander and Bridger: we prove that, if a commutative Noetherian complete local ring R admits a test module of finite Gorenstein dimension, then R is Gorenstein., Comment: to appear in Kyoto Journal of Mathematics

Let $R$ be a Cohen-Macaulay local ring and let $M$ and $N$ be non-zero finitely generated $R$-modules. We investigate necessary conditions for the depth formula $\depth(M)+\depth(N)=\depth(R)+\depth(M\otimes_{R}N)$ to hold. We show that, under certain conditions, $M$ and $N$ satisfy the depth formula if and only if $\Tor_{i}^{R}(M,N)$ vanishes for all $i\geq 1$. We also examine the relationship between good depth of $M\otimes_RN$ and the vanishing of $\Ext$ modules, with various applications., Comment: Some results on semi-dualizing modules are added at the end
