Lithium-rich giant stars are rare and their existence challenges our understanding of stellar structure and evolution. We profit from the high-quality sample gathered with HARPS and UVES, in order to search for Li-rich giants and to identify the Li enrichment mechanisms responsible. We derive stellar parameters for 247 stars belonging to 32 open clusters, with 0.07 Ga < ages < 3.6 Ga. We employed the spectral synthesis technique code FASMA for the abundance analysis of 228 stars from our sample. We also determined ages, distances, and extinction using astrometry and photometry from Gaia and PARSEC isochrones to constrain their evolutionary stage. Our sample covers a wide range of stellar masses from 1 to more than 6 solar masses where the majority of the masses are above 2 solar masses. We have found 14 canonical Li-rich giant stars which have experienced the first dredge-up. This corresponds to 6% of our total sample, which is higher than what is typically found for field stars. Apart from the canonical limit, we use the maximum Li abundance of the progenitor stars as a criterion for Li enrichment. We find Li enhancement also among eight stars which have passed the first dredge up and show strong Li lines based on the fact that stars at the same evolutionary stage in the same cluster have significantly different Li abundances. We confirm that giants with higher Li abundance correspond to a higher fraction of fast-rotating giants, suggesting a connection between Li enhancement and stellar rotation as predicted by stellar models. In the era of large surveys and space missions, it is necessary to rely on large samples of well-characterized stars for inter-calibrating and comparing measurements from different sources. Among the most employed photometric systems, the Johnson-Kron-Cousins has been used for decades and for a large amount of important datasets. Using Gaia DR3 as a reference, as well as data from reddening maps, spectroscopic surveys, and variable stars monitoring surveys, we curated and characterized the widely used Landolt and Stetson collections of more than 200 000 secondary standards, removing binaries, blends, and variable stars, and we classified and parametrized them, employing classical as well as machine learning techniques. In particular, our atmospheric parameters agree significantly better with spectroscopic ones, compared to other catalogues obtained by means of machine learning. We also cross-matched the collections with the major photometric surveys to provide a comprehensive table with the magnitudes of the secondary standards in the most widely used photometric systems (ugriz, grizy, Gaia, Hipparcos, Tycho, 2MASS). We finally provide a set of 167 polynomial transformations, valid for dwarfs and giants, metal-poor and metal-rich stars, to transform UBVRI magnitudes into the above photometric systems and vice-versa., Comment: 19 pages, 12 Figures, Accepted for publication in A&A

Context. NGC 1851 is one of several globular clusters for which multiple stellar populations of the subgiant branch have been clearly identified and a difference in metallicity detected. A crucial piece of information on the formation history of this cluster can be provided by the sum of A(C+N+O) abundances. However, these values have lacked a general consensus thus far. The separation of the subgiant branch can be based on age and/or A(C+N+O) abundance differences. Aims. Our main aim was to determine carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen abundances for evolved giants in the globular cluster NGC1851 in order to check whether or not the double populations of stars are coeval. Methods. High-resolution spectra, observed with the FLAMES-UVES spectrograph on the ESO VLT telescope, were analysed using a differential model atmosphere method. Results. We provide abundances of up to 29 chemical elements for a sample of 45 giants in NGC 1851. The investigated stars can be separated into two populations with a difference of 0.07 dex in the mean metallicity, 0.3 dex in the mean C/N, and 0.35 dex in the mean s-process dominated element-to-iron abundance ratios [s/Fe]. No significant difference was determined in the mean values of A(C+N+O) as well as in abundance to iron ratios of carbon, alpha- and iron-peak-elements, and of europium. Conclusions. As the averaged A(C+N+O) values between the two populations do not differ, additional evidence is given that NGC 1851 is composed of two clusters, the metal-rich cluster being by about 0.6 Gyr older than the metal-poor one. We present the results of a survey of radial velocities over a wide region extending from r~10 arcmin out to r~80 arcmin (~1.5 tidal radii) within the massive star cluster omega Centauri. The survey was performed with FLAMES@VLT, to study the velocity dispersion profile in the outer regions of this stellar system. We derived accurate radial velocities for a sample of 2557 newly observed stars, identifying 318 bona-fide cluster red giants. Merging our data with those provided by Pancino et al. (2007), we assembled a final homogeneous sample of 946 cluster members that allowed us to trace the velocity dispersion profile from the center out to r~32 arcmin. The velocity dispersion appears to decrease monotonically over this range, from a central value of sigma_{v}~17.2 Km/s down to a minimum value of sigma_{v}~5.2 Km/s. The observed surface brightness profile, rotation curve, velocity dispersion profile and ellipticity profile are simultaneously well reproduced by a simple dynamical model in which mass follows light, within the classical Newtonian theory of gravitation. The comparison with an N-body model of the evolution of a system mimicking omega Cen during the last 10 orbits into the Galactic potential suggests that (a) the rotation of stars lying in the inner ~20 arcmin of the clusters is not due to the effects of the tidal field of the Milky Way, as hypothized by other authors, and (b) the overall observational scenario is still compatible with the possibility that the outer regions of the cluster are subject to some tidal stirring., Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures, accepted for publication by MNRAS

We present the results of a deep photometric survey performed with FORS1@VLT aimed at investigating the complex Main Sequence structure of the stellar system omega Centauri. We confirm the presence of a double Main Sequence and identify its blue component (bMS) over a large field of view up to 26' from the cluster center. We found that bMS stars are significantly more concentrated toward the cluster center than the other "normal" MS stars. The bMS morphology and its position in the CMD have been used to constrain the helium overabundance required to explain the observed MS morphology., Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication by ApJ

We present results of an extensive spectroscopic survey of Subgiant stars in the stellar system omega Centauri. Using infrared CaII triplet lines, we derived metallicities and radial velocities for more than 250 stars belonging to different stellar populations of the system. We find that the most metal rich component, the anomalous Sub Giant Branch (SGB-a), has a metallicity of [Fe/H] -0.6 fully compatible with that determined along the anomalous Red Giant Branch (RGB-a). Our analysis suggests that the age of this component and of the other metal-intermediate (-1.4 < [Fe/H] < -1.0) stellar populations of the system are all comparable to that of the dominant metal poor population within 2 Gyr regardless of any choice of helium abundance. These results impose severe constraints on the time-scale of the enrichment process of this stellar system, excluding the possibility of an extended star formation period.
