Abstract

This paper documents the sixteenth data release (DR16) from the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys; the fourth and penultimate from the fourth phase (SDSS-IV). This is the first release of data from the southern hemisphere survey of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment 2 (APOGEE-2); new data from APOGEE-2 North are also included. DR16 is also notable as the final data release for the main cosmological program of the Extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS), and all raw and reduced spectra from that project are released here. DR16 also includes all the data from the Time Domain Spectroscopic Survey (TDSS) and new data from the SPectroscopic IDentification of ERosita Survey (SPIDERS) programs, both of which were co-observed on eBOSS plates. DR16 has no new data from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey (or the MaNGA Stellar Library "MaStar"). Abstract

We analyse the clustering of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey Data Release 14 quasar sample (DR14Q). We measure the redshift space distortions using the power spectrum monopole, quadrupole and hexadecapole inferred from 148,659 quasars between redshifts 0.8 and 2.2 covering a total sky footprint of 2112.9 deg$^2$. We constrain the logarithmic growth of structure times the amplitude of dark matter density fluctuations, $f��_8$, and the Alcock-Paczynski dilation scales which allow constraints to be placed on the angular diameter distance $D_A(z)$ and the Hubble $H(z)$ parameter. At the effective redshift of $z_{\rm eff}=1.52$, $f��_8(z_{\rm eff})=0.420\pm0.076$, $H(z_{\rm eff})=[162\pm 12]\, (r_s^{\rm fid}/r_s)\,{\rm km\, s}^{-1}{\rm Mpc}^{-1}$, and $D_A(z_{\rm eff})=[1.85\pm 0.11]\times10^3\,(r_s/r_s^{\rm fid})\,{\rm Mpc}$, where $r_s$ is the comoving sound horizon at the baryon drag epoch and the superscript `fid' stands for its fiducial value. The errors take into account the full error budget, including systematics and statistical contributions. These results are in full agreement with the current $��$-Cold Dark Matter ($��$CDM) cosmological model inferred from Planck measurements. Finally, we compare our measurements with other eBOSS companion papers and find excellent agreement, demonstrating the consistency and complementarity of the different methods used for analysing the data., 37 pages, 25 figures, 14 tables. Abstract

We present reverberation mapping results from the first year of combined spectroscopic and photometric observations of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Reverberation Mapping Project. We successfully recover reverberation time delays between the $g+i$-band emission and the broad H$��$ emission line for a total of 44 quasars, and for the broad H$��$ emission line in 18 quasars. Time delays are computed using the JAVELIN and CREAM software and the traditional interpolated cross-correlation function (ICCF): Using well defined criteria, we report measurements of 32 H$��$ and 13 H$��$ lags with JAVELIN, 42 H$��$ and 17 H$��$ lags with CREAM, and 16 H$��$ and 8 H$��$ lags with the ICCF. Lag values are generally consistent among the three methods, though we typically measure smaller uncertainties with JAVELIN and CREAM than with the ICCF, given the more physically motivated light curve interpolation and more robust statistical modeling of the former two methods. The median redshift of our H$��$-detected sample of quasars is 0.53, significantly higher than that of the previous reverberation-mapping sample. We find that in most objects, the time delay of the H$��$ emission is consistent with or slightly longer than that of H$��$. We measure black hole masses using our measured time delays and line widths for these quasars. These black hole mass measurements are mostly consistent with expectations based on the local M-sigma relationship, and are also consistent with single-epoch black hole mass measurements. This work increases the current sample size of reverberation-mapped active galaxies by about two-thirds and represents the first large sample of reverberation mapping observations beyond the local universe (z < 0.3)., 24 pages, 14 figures, published in ApJ, Volume 851, 1.
