Recent studies have demonstrated that the emission from the circumgalactic medium of the Milky Way displays a relatively high degree of patchiness on angular scales of $\sim10^\circ$. Taking advantage of the Spectrum Roentgen Gamma eROSITA Final Equatorial Depth Survey (eFEDS), we aim to constrain any variation in the soft X-ray surface brightness on scales going from sub-degree to a hundred square degrees. We observe modulations of about $60$% on scales of several degrees and decreasing for higher energies. The observed patchiness is stable over a period of two years, therefore excluding that it is induced by Solar wind charge exchange. We also observe no correlation between such excess and the density of galaxies in the Local Universe, suggesting no strong contribution from the hot baryons in the filaments of the Cosmic web. Instead, the soft X-ray emission is anti-correlated with the column density of absorbing material. Indeed, we can reproduce the spectrum of the bright and dark regions by simply varying the column density of the matter absorbing the emission components located beyond the Local Hot Bubble, while no modulation of the intrinsic emission is required. At high Galactic latitudes, the eROSITA all sky map shows patchiness of the soft X-ray diffuse emission similar to the one observed in the eFEDS field, it is therefore likely that the same "absorption-modulation" is present over the entire sky. When fabricating magnetic memories, one of the main challenges is to maintain the bit stability while downscaling. Indeed, for magnetic volumes of a few thousand nm3, the energy barrier between magnetic configurations becomes comparable to the thermal energy at room temperature. Then, switches of the magnetization spontaneously occur. These volatile, superparamagnetic nanomagnets are generally considered useless. But what if we could use them as low power computational building blocks? Remarkably, they can oscillate without the need of any external dc drive, and despite their stochastic nature, they can beat in unison with an external periodic signal. Here we show that the phase locking of superparamagnetic tunnel junctions can be induced and suppressed by electrical noise injection. We develop a comprehensive model giving the conditions for synchronization, and predict that it can be achieved with a total energy cost lower than 10-^13 J. We investigate analytically and numerically the synchronization dynamics of dipolarly coupled vortex based Spin-Torque Nano Oscillators (STNO) with different pillar diameters. We identify the critical interpillar distances on which synchronization occurs as a function of their diameter mismatch. We obtain numerically a phase diagram showing the transition between unsynchronized and synchronized states and compare it to analytical predictions we make using Thiele approach. Our study demonstrates that for relatively small diameters differences the synchronization dynamics can be described qualitatively using Adler equation. However when the diameters difference increases significantly, the system becomes strongly non-Adlerian.

We discuss a possible mechanism of the spin-transfer induced oscillations of a vortex in the free layer of spin-valve nanostructures, in which the polarizer layer has a planar magnetization. We demonstrate that if such planar polarizer is essentially non-uniform, steady gyrotropic vortex motion with large amplitude can be excited. The best excitation efficiency is obtained for a circular magnetization distribution in the polarizer. Fast radio bursts remain one of the most enigmatic astrophysical sources. Observations have significantly progressed over the last few years, thanks to the capabilities of new radio telescopes and the refurbishment of existing ones. Here we describe the upgrade of the Northern Cross radio telescope, operating in the 400-416~MHz frequency band, with the ultimate goal of turning the array into a dedicated instrument to survey the sky for fast radio bursts. We present test observations of the pulsar B0329+54 to characterize the system performance and forecast detectability. Observations with the system currently in place are still limited by modest sky coverage ($\sim 9.4$~deg$^2$) and biased by smearing of high dispersion measure events within each frequency channels. In its final, upgraded configuration, however, the telescope will be able to carry out unbiased fast radio burst surveys over a $\sim 350$~deg$^2$ instantaneous field of view up to $z \sim 5$, with a (nearly constant) $\sim 760 \, (\tau/{\rm ms})^{-0.5}$~mJy rms sensitivity., Comment: 8 pages, 9 figures, accepted by MNRAS
