In light of recent discrepancies between the modeling of $t\bar{t} W^\pm$ signatures and measurements reported by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experimental collaborations, we investigate in detail theoretical uncertainties for multi-lepton signatures. We compare results from the state-of-the-art full off-shell calculation and its Narrow Width Approximation to results obtained from the on-shell $t\bar{t} W^\pm$ calculation, with approximate spin-correlations in top-quark and $W$ decays, matched to parton showers. In the former case double-, single-, and non-resonant contributions together with interference effects are taken into account, while the latter two cases are only based on the double resonant top-quark contributions. The comparison is performed for the LHC at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV for which we study separately the multi-lepton signatures as predicted from the dominant NLO contributions at the perturbative orders $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s^3\alpha^6)$ and $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s\alpha^8)$. Furthermore, we combine both contributions and propose a simple way to approximately incorporate the full off-shell effects in the NLO computation of on-shell $pp\to t\bar{t} W^\pm$ matched to parton showers., Comment: 37 pages, 10 figures, 1 table, published version

This Report summarizes the results of the activities of the LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group in the period 2014-2016. The main goal of the working group was to present the state-of-the-art of Higgs physics at the LHC, integrating all new results that have appeared in the last few years. The first part compiles the most up-to-date predictions of Higgs boson production cross sections and decay branching ratios, parton distribution functions, and off-shell Higgs boson production and interference effects. The second part discusses the recent progress in Higgs effective field theory predictions, followed by the third part on pseudo-observables, simplified template cross section and fiducial cross section measurements, which give the baseline framework for Higgs boson property measurements. The fourth part deals with the beyond the Standard Model predictions of various benchmark scenarios of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, extended scalar sector, Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and exotic Higgs boson decays. This report follows three previous working-group reports: Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 1. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002), Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 2. Differential Distributions (CERN-2012-002), and Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 3. Higgs properties (CERN-2013-004). This Report summarises the results of the second year's activities of the LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002) focuses on predictions (central values and errors) for total Higgs production cross sections and Higgs branching ratios in the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension, covering also related issues such as Monte Carlo generators, parton distribution functions, and pseudo-observables. We calculate the production of a W boson in association with up to two jets including at least one b-jet to next-to-leading order (NLO) in QCD at the CERN Large Hadron Collider with 7 TeV center-of-mass energy. Both exclusive and inclusive event cross section and b-jet cross sections are presented. The calculation is performed consistently in the five-flavor-number scheme where both q anti-q' and bq (q =\= b) initiated parton level processes are included at NLO QCD. We study the residual theoretical uncertainties of the NLO predictions due to the renormalization and factorization scale dependence, to the uncertainty from the parton distribution functions, and to the values of alpha_s and the bottom-quark mass., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures

Discoveries at the LHC will soon set the physics agenda for future colliders. This report of a CERN Theory Institute includes the summaries of Working Groups that reviewed the physics goals and prospects of LHC running with 10 to 300/fb of integrated luminosity, of the proposed sLHC luminosity upgrade, of the ILC, of CLIC, of the LHeC and of a muon collider. The four Working Groups considered possible scenarios for the first 10/fb of data at the LHC in which (i) a state with properties that are compatible with a Higgs boson is discovered, (ii) no such state is discovered either because the Higgs properties are such that it is difficult to detect or because no Higgs boson exists, (iii) a missing-energy signal beyond the Standard Model is discovered as in some supersymmetric models, and (iv) some other exotic signature of new physics is discovered. In the contexts of these scenarios, the Working Groups reviewed the capabilities of the future colliders to study in more detail whatever new physics may be discovered by the LHC. We calculate the Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) QCD corrections to Z b anti-b production in hadronic collisions including full bottom-quark mass effects. We present results for the total cross section and the invariant mass distribution of the bottom-quark jet pair at the Fermilab Tevatron p anti-p collider. We perform a detailed comparison with a calculation that considers massless bottom quarks, as implemented in the Monte Carlo program MCFM. We find that neglecting bottom-quark mass effects overestimates the total NLO QCD cross section for Z b anti-b production at the Tevatron by about 7%, independent of the choice of the renormalization and factorization scales. We review the status of the QCD corrected cross sections and kinematic distributions for the production of a Higgs boson in association with top quark or bottom quark pairs at the Fermilab Tevatron and at the LHC. Results for b-bbar-H production are presented in the Minimal Supersymmetric Model, where the rates can be greatly enhanced relative to the Standard Model rates. We compute the O(alpha_s^3) inclusive cross section for the process pp -> t-tbar-h in the Standard Model, at sqrt(s)=14 TeV. The next-to-leading order corrections drastically reduce the renormalization and factorization scale dependence of the Born cross section and increase the total cross section for renormalization and factorization scales larger than m_t. We present in detail the calculation of the O(alpha_s^3)inclusive total cross section for the process (p pbar-> t tbar h) in the Standard Model, at the Tevatron center-of-mass energy sqrt(s_H)=2 TeV. The next-to-leading order QCD corrections significantly reduce the renormalization and factorization scale dependence of the Born cross section. They slightly decrease or increase the Born cross section depending on the values of the renormalization and factorization scales, 46 pages, 13 figures

We investigate the inclusive production of a Higgs boson with a pair of heavy quarks (t-tbar b-bbar), in e^+e^- collisions at high energies, sqrt(s)=500 GeV and sqrt(s)=1 TeV. We consider both the Standard Model and the supersymmetric case. In both cases O(alpha_s) QCD corrections are included. The associated production of a Higgs boson with a t-tbar pair is extremely sensitive to the top-Higgs Yukawa coupling and may allow the precision measurement of this coupling. We review the latest calculations of the next-to-leading $\DSone$ effective Hamiltonian, relevant for $K\to ����$ transitions. Numerical results for the Wilson coefficients are given for different regularization schemes. Predictions of $\epse$, obtained using different approaches to evaluate the relevant hadronic matrix elements, are compared. Given the present value of the top mass, $m_t=(174\pm 17)$ GeV, all the analyses, in spite of the large theoretical uncertainties, indicate that the value of $\epse$ is smaller than $1\times 10^{-3}$., LaTeX, 29 pages, 5 postscript figures, contribution to the 2nd Daphne Physics Handbook

An upgraded analysis of $\ep$, $x_d$ and $\epp/\ep$, using the latest determinations of the relevant experimental and theoretical parameters, is presented. Using the recent determination of the top quark mass, $m_t=(174 \pm 17)$ GeV, our best estimate is $\epp/\ep= 3.1 \pm 2.5 $, which lies in the range given by E731. We describe our determination of $\epp/\ep$ and make a comparison with other similar studies. We present the results for the Next-to-Leading Order effective hamiltonian for $��S\!=\! 1$ decays, in presence of both QCD and QED corrections, and update the existing theoretical predictions for $��^\prime/��$. In this paper we present a calculation of the $��S=1$ effective weak Hamiltonian including next-to-leading order QCD and QED corrections. At a scale $��$ of the order of few GeV, the Wilson coefficients of the operators are given in terms of the renormalization group evolution matrix and of the coefficients computed at a large scale $\sim M_W$. The expression of the evolution matrix is derived from the two-loop anomalous dimension matrix which governs the mixing of the relevant current-current and penguin operators, renormalized in some given regularization scheme. We have computed the anomalous dimension matrix up to and including order $\alphas^2$ and $\alphae \alphas$ in two different renormalization schemes, NDR and HV, with consistent results. We give many details on the calculation of the anomalous dimension matrix at two loops, on the determination of the Wilson coefficients at the scale $M_W$ and of their evolution from $M_W$ to $��$. We discuss in detail the calculation of the leading order QCD corrections to the Effective Hamiltonian which governs $b \rightarrow s\, ��$ and $b \rightarrow s \, g$ transitions in three different regularization schemes (HV, NDR and DRED). We show that intermediate stages of the calculation do depend on the regularization, but the same scheme independent coefficients can be obtained in all the considered schemes. We present a calculation of the effective weak Hamiltonian which governs $b \rightarrow s\, ��$ and $b \rightarrow s \, g$ transitions in two different renormalization schemes (NDR and HV). In the leading logarithmic approximation, we show that the coefficients of the effective Hamiltonian are scheme independent only when one takes correctly into account the scheme dependence of one- and two- loop diagrams. We demonstrate that in NDR there are contributions which were missed in previous calculations. We present the results of our recent calculation of $��^{\prime}/ ��$ at the Next-to-Leading (NLO) order in QCD and QED, in the framework of $\DSone$ Effective Hamiltonians. The operator matrix elements are taken from lattice QCD, at a scale $��=2\,\,\mbox{GeV}$. NLO corrections seem to lower the value of $��^{\prime}/��$, favouring the experimental result of E731. Contributions from different operators are analyzed and dependence on $\mt$, $��$ and $��_{\sss QCD}$ discussed. We present a new calculation of the CP violation parameter $��^{\prime}/ ��$. The results reported in this paper have been obtained by using the $��S=1$ effective Hamiltonian computed at the next-to-leading order, including QCD and QED penguins. The matrix elements of the relevant operators have been taken from lattice QCD, at a scale $��=2$ GeV. At this relatively large scale, the perturbative matching between the relevant operators and the corresponding coefficients is quite reliable. The effect of the next-to-leading corrections is to lower the prediction obtained at the leading order, thus favouring the experimental result of E731.
