In children and adolescents, especially younger ones, recurrent abdominal pains may develop as a response to psychosocial stressors. They may be considered as functional and be one of the common reasons for clinical referrals. A rare cause of recurrent, organic abdominal pain is abdominal epilepsy. Abdominal epilepsy may be considered in differential diagnosis of patients that were thought to have functional complaints. In this case, a 16-year-old adolescent girl whose chief complaints included loss of consciousness and recurrent abdominal pains lasting for a year is presented.

- Abstract
Background: There may be many risk factors for both youth offending and victimization. In our study, we aimed to compare youth offenders and victims in terms of attachment characteristics, emotion regulation, and mind-reading skills., Methods: This study employed a single-center, cross-sectional, case-control design. Kiddie and Young Adult Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia Present and Lifetime Version along with diagnostic criteria of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, were administered by clinicians. Mind-reading skills were assessed with Reading the Mind in the Eyes task (RMET) and Faces test. Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) and Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment-Short Form (IPPA-SF) were used for assessing attachment and emotion regulation properties., Results: : When we compared the two groups in terms of IPPA-SF, DERS, RMET and Faces test, we found that victimized and offending youth did not differ significantly in terms of attachment to peers and communication/trust domains of parental attachment. Youth offenders and victims differed significantly in terms of DERS- Non-acceptance and Goals both ( P = .031 and .045; respectively). Offending youth scored significantly higher in Non-acceptance, while victimized youth scored significantly higher in Goals., Conclusion: : Offending youth were more alienated from their parents, were experiencing problems with emotional acceptance, and had lower theory of mind and emotion recognition skills compared to victimized youth. Therefore, protective interventions supporting parent-adolescent communication/attachment, as well as emotion recognition/regulation and theory of mind skills of youth, may protect children from both victimization and delinquency., Competing Interests: Declaration of Interests: The authors have no conflict of interest to declare., (2023 The authors.)

- Abstract
Background: It was aimed to induce a new experimental colitis model by using acetic acid and trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid together and to investigate the severity of inflammation biochemically and histopathologically in comparison with other models., Methods: Fifty-six Wistar albino male rats were randomly divided into 4 groups as control, acetic acid, trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid, and combined groups, and the animals were sacrificed following the induction of colitis on the third day and on the seventh day. The serum amyloid A and myeloperoxidase were tested in plasma samples, and the tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin 33, and ST2 were assayed in colon tissue samples with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in addition to histopathological examination., Results: There were statistically significant differences between the combined and the control groups both on the third day and on the seventh day in all parameters. There was no difference between the acetic acid group on the seventh day and the control groups in biochemical parameters., Conclusions: The acetic acid model forms acute colitis. The combined model is found to be more successful in forming inflammation when compared to other models.

- Abstract
Background: : The majority of research on parenting behaviors in social phobia has been conducted with mother-child dyads, but there is still a gap in current knowledge about the role of fathers' parenting behaviors and adolescence period. This study focuses on the role of parent gender, parental attitudes, and familial factors in an adolescent population., Methods: Our study sample consisted of adolescents diagnosed with social phobia (n = 60), healthy non-clinical adolescents (n = 30), and the parents of adolescents with social phobia (n = 46) and non-clinical adolescents (n = 30). A Sociodemographic Information Form, Family Interview Inventory, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale, and The Parent Attitude Research Instrument were administered to all groups., Results: The parents of adolescents with social phobia have reported a higher overprotective mothering attitude when compared to parents of healthy adolescents ( P
mother < .001 and Pfather = .009). The mothers' overprotective parenting style and the fathers' avoidance levels were found as predictive factors for adolescents' social phobia in logistic regression analysis (respectively; exp(β) = 0.868 and P = .002; exp(β) = 0.927 and P = .017)., Conclusion: Our results indicate the necessity of considering both the parents in the research. We suggest that controlled prospective future studies on different ages, diagnostic groups, and cultures, which will take the gender of both parents and patients into account, may reveal important data on the relation between parenting behaviors and social anxiety., (© Copyright 2021 authors.)- Published

- Abstract
Background/aims: To assess the effect of propofol supplemented with alfentanil or fentanyl on cognitive functions for sedation during elective colonoscopy., Materials and Methods: Patients (n=150, 18-65 years old, American Society of Anesthesiologists risk group I-III) scheduled undergo elective colonoscopy were included. They were randomized into three groups using the closed envelope methodpropofol-alfentanil (Group A), propofol-fentanyl (Group F), and propofol only (Group P).Group A patients were given an alfentanil (10 mcg/kg)-supplemented propofol bolus infusion and 5 mcg/kg alfentanil when necessary. Group F patients were given fentanyl (1 mcg/kg)-supplemented propofol and 0.5 mcg/kg fentanyl when necessary. Group P patients were given 1 mg/kg propofol and 0.5 mg/kg propofol when necessary. Vital signs, depth of sedation, recovery parameters, and patient and endoscopist satisfaction were recorded. Trieger dot test (TDT) and Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST) were performed post procedure., Results: Demographic data were similar among all patients in the groups. Bispectral index values were lower in Group P (p<0.001). DSST scores were higher in Group A (p=0.004). TDT scores and Facial Pain Scale scores were higher in Group P (p<0.005). Apnea incidence (p=0.009) and Observer's Assessment of Alertness/Sedation Scale scores (p=0.002) were also higher in Group P. Patient satisfaction and endoscopist satisfaction were similar among all patients., Conclusions: Compared with propofol-alfentanil and propofol-fentanyl, propofol alone is associated with an increased incidence of apnea, drug consumption, and reported pain. Propofol-alfentanil has a less negative effect on cognitive functions than propofol alone or propofol-fentanyl.

- Abstract
Intracranial metastasis of prostate cancer is rarely seen, and there are few studies in this regard in the literature. Most of these studies in the literature comprise the metastasis of prostate cancer to the sphenoid sinus, and metastasis to the frontal and ethmoid sinus is a much rare entity. Association of visual symptoms, epistaxis, headache, and hematuria may indicate a urologic malignancy in terms of the origin of the primary tumor. This study was aimed to present the prostate cancer case of a 73-year-old patient whose paranasal sinus tomograms revealed the presence of frontal and ethmoid sinus metastasis., Competing Interests: No conflict of interest was declared by the authors.

- Abstract
Objectives: To determine the effects of an asthma training and monitoring program on children's disease management and quality of life., Material and Methods: The sample consisted of 120 children and their parents. Data were collected during, at the beginning, and at the end of the 3-month monitoring period using four forms and a quality of life scale. After an initial evaluation, approaches to control symptoms and asthma triggers and measures that might be taken for them were taught to the children and parents. The children recorded the conditions of trigger exposure, experience of disease symptoms, their effects on daily activities, and therapeutic implementations on a daily basis., Results: During the 3-month monitoring period, the number of days when the children were exposed to triggers (p=0.000) and experienced disease symptoms decreased to a statistically significant level (p=0.006). Majority of domestic triggers disappeared, but those stemming from the structure of the house and non-domestic triggers indicated no change (p>0.05). Moreover, 30.8% of the children applied to a physician/hospital/emergency service, 4.2% of the children were hospitalized, and 30% of them could not go to school. The number of times when the children applied to a physician/hospital/emergency (p=0.013), the number of times they used medicines (p=0.050), and the number of days they could not go to school (p=0.002) decreased at a statistically significant level, and their quality of life increased (p=0.001)., Conclusion: Asthma training and monitoring program decreased children's rate of experiencing asthma symptoms and implementations of therapeutic purposes and increased their life quality., Competing Interests: Conflict of Interest: No conflict of interest was declared by the authors.
