Objective: This study aimed to analyze the publication rate for oral presentations at Congresses of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases of Turkey (CEMDT), their contribution to the literature, and variations over twenty years. Material and Methods: Presentations from 1997-2017 were accessed through congress booklets. PubMed and Google Scholar were used for the relevant literature search. Results: A total of 456 oral presentations were identified as having a publication conversion rate of 45.4% (207). These manuscripts were published in journals with a median impact factor (IF) of 2.79 (interquartile range (IQR): 1.77-3.58) and were found to receive a median of 9 (IQR: 3-21) citations. The publication rate in SCI/SCI-E indexed journals was 80.2% (166). The publication duration was a median of 20.6 months (IQR: 6-41 months). The multinational abstract rate was 6.8% (31), whereas 19.3% (88) of the abstracts comprised of retrospective data. The most frequent variation during the conversion to articles was a change in the order of the authors, which was observed in 65.71% (136) of cases. When the two ten-year periods from 1997-2006 and 2007-2017 are compared, the publication rate increased from 37.1% to 54.3% (p<0.01). Conclusion: This is the first study to evaluate the publication rate of the CEMDT presentations. The conversion rate for oral presentations to publication is high compared to studies from other branches of medical science in Turkey. However, it remains lower than the international congresses. Objective: This study aimed to explore the scientific performance in research of endocrinology and metabolism and its correlation with the socioeconomic indicators in the Middle- East countries. Material and Methods: Scientometrics and social network analysis methods were used for this study. Data were extracted from the Web of Science, World Bank, and UIS data center of UNESCO. Results: The majority of scientific productions (79.6%) were published by authors affiliated with upper-middle and high income countries which includes Turkey, Israel, and Iran. From co-authorship analysis, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey with most degree centrality, had the highest collaborative ranking with other Middle-East countries. The main Middle-East collaborators having scientific outputs in this field were the researchers from the USA, England, and Germany. Israel, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia had the most collaboration (63.8%) with other countries. Also, there was a strong positive correlation between total collaborations with global countries and the number of citations. Conclusion: Due to the correlation among scientific productions, citations, scientific collaborations, Gross domestic expenditure on research and development, and specialist human resources indicators, the supplementary budget should be directed toward research in the Middle-East countries and establishing global networks to conduct joint projects. This could increase the trend of scientific productions and obtain higher citations in the Web of Science, eventually leading to scientific, social as well as economic development in the region. Objective: To analyze the trend of Turkish publications related to bone health with respect to global publications and to determine the relative contribution of endocrinologists to metabolic bone disease literature. Material and Methods: Publications related to bone health up to and including the year 2017 were retrieved from the "Web of Science" (WoS) and "Türkiye Atıf Dizini" (TAD) database using metabolic bone disease related MeSH terms. Excel (v15.30) and Endnote X8 were used to summarize the bibliometric features, including the number of publications, authors, their affiliations, and contributing countries. Keywords were divided, for a detailed analysis, into three clusters: osteoporosis, parathyroid, and vitamin D-related. Results: A total of 1.880.666 papers were retrieved from WoS globally and, of those, 21.165 (1.13%) were published from Turkey. Of the papers published from Turkey, 3.0% were primarily contributed by endocrinologists. The relative contribution of endocrinology to osteoporosis-related (4.6% vs. 1.5%), parathyroid-related (23.7% vs. 5.3%), and vitamin D-related (23.7% vs. 5.3%) publications was higher for articles originating from Turkey compared to the global data. Endocrinology was among the top five specialties contributing to Turkish metabolic bone disease literature indexed in WoS and TAD. Conclusion: Turkey has a less than expected rate of research output in terms of metabolic bone disease. The relatively higher contribution of endocrinology to that effort is promising. Supporting bone research might accelerate the efforts of Turkish researchers in the field of metabolic bone health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
