Intuitionistic fuzzy numbers extend fuzzy numbers and they are characterized by two functions that express the degree of membership and respectively non-membership. Therefore, intuitionistic fuzzy numbers better quantify uncertain information that occurs in many real situations and can be successfully used in multicriteria decision making (MCDM) methods. MCDM is a process of problem identification, construction of preferences, evaluation of alternatives and determination of the best alternative. Intuitionistic fuzzy numbers aggregating and ranking are still open research topics. In this paper we propose a MCDM method based on trapezoidal intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (TIFNs). We use two aggregation operators and four ranking methods with TIFNs in order to obtain eight hierarchies of the given alternatives to assist in making a decision. An algorithm for ranking alternatives based on performance of alternatives versus criteria and weights of the given criteria, both represented by TIFNs is elaborated.
