The anatomical variations and pathological conditions of the sinonasal area can be easily identified using computed tomography (CT) scan. The study was done to observe the prevalence of concha bullosa (CB) and nasal septal deviation (DNS) in sinusitis patients. 135 CT scan of nose and paranasal (PNS) sinuses were taken and reviewed retrospectively for the presence of concha bullosa, nasal septal deviation and sinusitis in the department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Border Guard Hospital, Dhaka from March 2019 to January 2020. Out of 135 patients, CT scan of nose and PNS revealed 74.81% patients exhibited some sinus disease, 68.14% nasal septal deviation and 42.22% had concha bullosa. In this study, we have done a retrospective analysis of the CT scan of PNS in order to assess the prevalence CB, DNS and sinusitis. Bangladesh J Otorhinolaryngol; April 2020; 26(1): 18-23

Introduction: Food insecurity refers to a household’s having “limited or uncertain availability of food, or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways”. Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia, are the most prevalent nutritional deficiencies worldwide and related to household food insecurity. Objectives: To find out the association between household food security and anaemia in children of a selected rural area of Bangladesh. Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among children ranging age from 12 to 60 months during the period ofJanuary 2009 to June 2009in Chandpur district. Mothers of the children were the respondents. A total of 192 children selected by simple random sampling were included in the study. Data were collected by face-to-face interview of the respondents and by estimation of haemoglobin of the children. Results: The mean age of the children was 34.5 ± 16.8 months. Male children were more than the female children with male to female ratio being 3:2. The average monthly family income was taka 7500. More than 60% of the mother had secondary level education. Farming was the prime occupation (36.4 %) of the father followed by business (25.5%) and service (22.4%). In Bangladesh, women are engaging in shrimp sector to support themselves and their family as well. Current study was designed to study the socio-economic and hygienic status of the women working in shrimp sector (employee) in South Western region in Bangladesh (N=150). The study also selected women who are not working in shrimp sector (non-employee) in the same community (N=75) to evaluate impacts of shrimp industry on women. In socio-economic background analysis of the women, medium household size (46% and 65.3%), primary education level (63.3% and 48%), married (79.3% and 97.3%), drinking tube-well water (93.3 % and 92%) and polli electric facility (77.3% and 84%) was dominant in both cases. Average monthly household income and expenditure was found better among the employees (9235 ± 4042 Tk and 765 5± 3032 Tk, respectively) than the non-employees (9068 ± 3113 Tk and 7208 ± 2147 Tk, respectively). In summary, the study observed and suggesting that life style and hygienic condition is better among the women engaged in shrimp sector than the nonemployee in the same community. Res. A statistically selected representative sample of 482 households in Bhanga upazila was studied to observe mother's knowledge and practice of the right duration of exclusive breast-feeding in an NNP area. Although a large number of mothers knew the right duration of exclusive breast-feeding, fewer practiced it for their last infant. Apart from some health constratints, lack of knowledge and motivation were the main reasons for early and late introduction of supplementary feeding.Regular participation in GMP sessions improved mother's knowledge of the right duration of exclusive breast-feeding, and improved knowledge increased practice while higher levels of mother's literacy accelerated the learning. Literate mothers were three times more likely and mothers who participated in GMP sessions regularly were almost three times more likely to know the right duration of exclusive breast-feeding compared to illiterate mothers and mothers who never participated in GMP sessions respectively. Mothers who knew the right duration were about 28 times more likely to practice it compared to the mothers who did not know it.A strong public awareness campaign aimed at the mothers could better motivate them to participate in GMP sessions more regularly leading to improved knowledge and increased practice of the right duration of exclusive breast-feeding realizing the full potential of NNP.
