Background: Delivery of drugs in the form of nanoparticles offers several advantages that outweigh the benefits offered by other drug delivery systems. Iron oxide nanoparticles being part of nano drug delivery system tend to offer supremacy over others by providing prominent characteristics that include high superamagnetism property along with the greater surface area that can be easily modified. Also, it helps achieve site-specific drug delivery which helps in solving the complications and issues related with desired bioavailability and further aids the process of killing cancerous cells. The distinctive features and flexible pathways by which such nanoparticles can be prepared have allowed its widespread usage in various fields. Objective: The main objective of this review is to summarize various methods of preparation, modifications by coating iron oxide surface for easy surface functionalization along with several industrial applications of iron oxide nanoparticles. Methods: The method involved the collection of the articles from different search engines like Google, Pubmed and ScienceDirect for the literature in order to get appropriate information regarding iron oxide nanoparticles. Results: Studies revealed that iron oxide nanoparticles have gained attention all over the world and has led to the development of various approaches for treating medical conditions. Iron oxide nanoparticles due to the advantages that it offers are utilized in various industries including biomedical, farming and aerospace industry and fabrication of iron oxide nanoparticles is possible through various ways including methods like co-precipitation, thermal decomposition, sol-gel, hydrothermal to name a few. Further, usage of coating an iron oxide nanoparticle and using biocompatible polymers tend to enlighten the scientific research. Conclusion: Iron oxide nanoparticles proved to be an efficient drug delivery to serve medical needs. The simple techniques of manufacturing with the additional strategy of modifications have led to more advances in the field of nanotechnology.

Background:Nanotech products are gaining more attention depending on their advantages for improving drug solubility, maintenance of drug targeting, and attenuation of drug toxicity. In vitro release test is the critical physical parameter to determine the pharmaceutical quality of the product, to monitor formulation design and batch-to-batch variation.Methods:Spectrophotometric and chromatographic methods are mostly used in quantification studies from in vitro release test of nano-drug delivery systems. These techniques have advantages and disadvantages with respect to each other considering dynamic range, selectivity, automation, compatibility with in vitro release media and cost per sample.Results:It is very important to determine the correct kinetic profile of active pharmaceutical substances. At this point, the analytical method used for in vitro release tests has become a very critical parameter to correctly assess the profiles. In this review, we provided an overview of analytical methods applied to the in vitro release assay of various nanopharmaceuticals.Conclusion:This review presents practical direction on analytical method selection for in vitro release test on nanopharmaceuticals. Moreover, precautions on analytical method selection, optimization and validation were discussed.

Liver cancer is one of serious diseases which threaten human life and health. Studies on the treatment of liver cancer have attracted widespread attention. Application of nano-drug delivery system (NDDS) can not only improve selective drug delivery to liver tissue and improve the bioavailability of drug, but also can reduce the side effects of drugs when it is specially modified in the respects of structure modification or specific target molecules decoration. This review will address the latest development of liver-targeted drug delivery system.

Nano drug delivery systems (NDDSs) have been widely used in tumor-targeted therapy since they can effectively reduce the side effects of traditional antitumor drugs and improve the anti-tumor effect. We divided the in vivo process of tumor-targeted NDDSs into seven steps: blood circulation, tumor accumulation, tumor tissue penetration, target cells internalization, lysosome escape, drug release and drug response. In each step, NDDSs will encounter different types of barriers preventing their effective delivery or response. The researchers have been making efforts to find different strategies of overcoming the corresponding barriers for NDDSs. Hence, we here reviewed the recent progress of NDDSs in breaking the physiological barriers for more effective in vivo anti-tumor effect, in order to shed a new perspective on the development of tumor-targeted NDDSs.
