Background: This study aimed to systematically search for relevant evidence on the management of kinesiophobia in patients after cardiac surgery both home and abroad. The evidence was evaluated and integrated to provide reference for clinical practice. Methods: According to the '6S' evidence pyramid model, evidence related to managing kinesiophobia in patients after cardiac surgery were systematically searched from relevant domestic and foreign guideline websites and professional association websites and databases from the date of their establishment to December 31, 2024. The quality of the literature was evaluated by two master's students who had completed their professional training and assessment at the Evidence-based Nursing Center of Fudan University. These students also extracted and summarised the pertinent evidence that met the literature quality evaluation standards. Results: Sixteen studies were included, including two guidelines, three expert consensus, six systematic reviews, two meta-analyses, and threerandomizedcontrolled trials. A total of 20 pieces of evidence were formed in seven aspects: management principles, exercise guidance, pain management, psychological intervention, health education, social support, and follow-up management. Conclusions: The comprehensive evidence summarised in this study for managing kinesiophobia in patients after cardiac surgery can provide resources for clinical translation. These insights can inform the development of kinesiophobia management plans to support the rapid recovery of patients after major surgery. Background: Multimodal rehabilitation has shown good results in adults with temporomandibular disorder (TMD), but there is still doubt regarding the protocol's ideal format (face-to-face or online), and its effectiveness among adolescents. The purpose of this study is to describe a randomized clinical trial protocol of face-to-face and online multimodal rehabilitation, in adolescents with TMD, and to determine its effects on pain, peripheral oxygenation of the masseter muscle, and mandibular range of motion, kinesiophobia and parafunction. Methods: A randomized, controlled clinical trial, blinded to statistical analyses, will be carried out, involving 26 adolescents, diagnosed with TMD. After randomization, the participants will be allocated into two groups: (1) telerehabilitation and (2) face-to-face treatment groups. Each group will undergo an initial assessment, followed by three treatment sessions, reassessment, and follow-up. Appointments and reassessments will be face-to-face, with instruments validated and adapted for adolescent age groups. The intervention protocol also aims at practicality, ease of execution, and strategies for the patient to easily self-manage and perform independently, adapted for face-to-face or online formats. The Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders, physical and psychosocial aspects, algometry, near-infrared spectroscopy, and the Tampa scale for kinesiophobia will be used to assess the outcomes. Discussion: It is expected that this study will contribute to online and face-to-face assessments and demonstrate the differences in the practice of rehabilitation of adolescents with TMD. Objective: This study aims to investigate the factors contributing to kinesiophobia in patients following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods: Purposive sampling was employed to conduct semi-structured interviews with 14 patients and 4 healthcare professionals who satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria, from May 2023 to June 2023. Data were coded, categorized, and thematically analyzed using the Colaizzi seven-step analysis method. Results: The factors contributing to kinesiophobia in patients post-PCI were classified into four primary themes: heightened psychological stress, increased uncertainty regarding exercise, reduced self-efficacy, and inadequate support systems. Conclusion: Kinesiophobia in patients post-PCI hinders adherence to cardiac rehabilitation protocols. Early identification and analysis of the factors contributing to kinesiophobia can guide the development and implementation of effective intervention strategies. Background: Aquatic training is known for its effective and gentle rehabilitation benefits, but its impact on athletes with chronic ankle instability (CAI) remains underexplored. This study compares the effects of water-based and land-based balance training on functional performance, dynamic balance, fear of reinjury, and quality of life in athletes with CAI. Methods: Forty-one athletes with chronic ankle instability (CAI) were randomly assigned to water-based (WBBE, n = 21) or land-based (LBBE, n = 20) balance exercise groups, completing 24 sessions of 30–45 min over 8 weeks. Assessments before and after the interventions included functional ankle instability (CAIT), kinesiophobia (TSK-17), quality of life (SF-36), dynamic postural control (Y Balance Test), and functional performance (Figure-8 hop and single-limb side-hop tests). Perceived treatment effects were measured using the Global Rating of Change (GROC) post-intervention. Data were analyzed using mixed-design ANOVA (P ≤ 0.05). Results: The statistical analysis of the study revealed no significant time × group interaction effects for CAIT scores, kinesiophobia scores, the Psychological Quality of Life (QoL) Component, or SEBT scores (p > 0.05). The LBBE group showed significant improvements in functional tasks, specifically in F8H and SLSH scores, compared to the WBBE group (p < 0.05), while the WBBE group had better outcomes in overall Quality of Life and the Physical QoL Component than the LBBE group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Both land-based and water-based balance exercises benefit athletes with CAI, with land-based exercises improving functional performance and water-based exercises enhancing physical and overall Quality of Life. A flexible rehabilitation program combining both approaches can optimize recovery, addressing specific needs, even though no significant differences were found in ankle stability, kinesiophobia, psychological Quality of Life, and dynamic balance between the two methods. Introduction: Kinesiophobia has a major health impact on patients with Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in their functional and physical activities, which leads to poor outcomes, loss of motivation, loss of mobility, and decreased quality of life. Despite the burden of kinesiophobia among MSDs, there is limited evidence about the burden of kinesiophobia in Ethiopia. Thus, this study aimed to assess the prevalence and its associated factors of kinesiophobia among MSD patients attending physiotherapy outpatient clinics. Method: An institutional multi-center cross-sectional study was conducted from February to April 2023 with a sample size of 424. A systematic random sampling technique and face-to-face interviews using a structured questionnaire and chart review were used. The collected data was entered into Epi-data version 4.6.0.6 and analyzed using SPSS version 25. Binary logistic regression analysis was employed to identify the potential candidates for multivariable logistic regression with a p-value less than 0.25. Finally, multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed and variables at p < 0.05 with 95% CI were considered statistically significant contributors to kinesiophobia. Result: The overall prevalence of kinesiophobia among MSD patients was 48.3% (95% CI, 43.3–53.3). Being overweight and obese BMI value (AOR = 3.98; 95% CI, 2.17–7.29), having moderate pain level (AOR = 3.31; 95% CI, 1.51–7.26), having severe pain level (AOR = 9.29; 95% CI, 3.79–22.77), physical inactivity (AOR = 3.00; 95% CI = 1.84–4.89), anxiety (AOR = 2.57; 95% CI = 1.57–4.19), and depression (AOR = 8.21; 95% CI = 3.47–19.46) were significantly associated with kinesiophobia among musculoskeletal disorder patients. Conclusion: kinesiophobia is a public health burden among patients with MSDs. Nearly half of the people with MSDs had reported kinesiophobia. Being overweight and obese BMI value, pain severity level, physical inactivity, anxiety, and depressive symptoms were significantly associated with kinesiophobia. Thus, we suggest screening for kinesiophobia, be physically active, avoiding being overweight and obese, and managing depression, anxiety and pain will help to reduce the occurrence of kinesiophobia. Background: Kinesiophobia, an irrational fear-avoidance behaviour, can significantly impact the quality of life and prognosis of peritoneal dialysis patients. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of kinesiophobia in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis and to analyse its influencing factors. Methods: A total of 291 patients who visited the outpatient and ward of peritoneal dialysis in 7 tertiary hospitals in Jiangsu Province from December 2023 to March 2024 were selected as research subjects via the convenience sampling method. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a general data questionnaire, the Tampa Kinesiophobia-11 Scale, the Chinese Version of the Multidimensional Fatigue Symptom Scale, and the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire. Results: The score obtained using the Tampa Scale for kinesiophobia in patients with peritoneal dialysis was 22.44 ± 7.46, with a prevalence rate of 69.1%. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that no complications, daily exercise before illness, and positive coping styles were protective factors (p < 0.05), whereas fatigue and negative coping styles were risk factors for kinesiophobia in patients receiving peritoneal dialysis (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The prevalence of kinesiophobia in patients receiving peritoneal dialysis was high but at a mild level. Medical staff should combine influencing factors to identify high-risk groups as early as possible, formulate targeted interventions to reduce the occurrence of kinesiophobia and mitigate adverse effects on peritoneal dialysis patients. Background: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between childhood physical activity enjoyment and current kinesiophobia among individuals with chronic low back pain (CLBP), considering the mediating influence of adult physical activity. Methods: We recruited 648 adults (474 males, 174 females) with CLBP through an online platform. Of these, 99.1% (n = 642) were aged 18–60 years, and 0.9% (n = 6) were older than 60 years. Childhood physical activity enjoyment was retrospectively assessed using a single-item question to gauge participants' enjoyment during primary school. Kinesiophobia was measured with the 11-item Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK-11), and physical activity was assessed focusing on walking, moderate, and vigorous physical activities. Age, sex, education, and income served as control variables in the analysis. Results: A significant negative association was found between childhood physical activity enjoyment and adult kinesiophobia. Additionally, childhood physical activity enjoyment was positively associated with adult physical activity across the three types of physical activities. In the adjusted mediation model, walking was identified as the only statistically significant partial mediator. Conclusion: The findings highlight the long-term protective role of childhood physical activity enjoyment against the development of kinesiophobia in adulthood. Walking, in particular, holds unique therapeutic potential, emphasizing the importance of fostering physical activity enjoyment early in life for sustained physical activity and reduced risk of kinesiophobia among CLBP patients. Background Physical activity (PA) is essential and effective for chronic heart failure (CHF) patients. A greater understanding of the longitudinal change in PA and its influencing factors during the postdischarge transition period may help create interventions for improving PA. The aims of this study were (1) to compare the change in PA, (2) to examine the influencing factors of PA change, and (3) to verify the mediating pathways between influencing factors and PA during the postdischarge transition period in CHF patients. Methods A total of 209 CHF patients were recruited using a longitudinal study design. The Chinese version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), Patient-reported Outcome Measure for CHF (CHF-PRO), and the Chinese version of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia Heart (TSK-Heart) were used to assess PA, CHF-related symptoms, and kinesiophobia. The IPAQ score was calculated (1) at admission, (2) two weeks after discharge, (3) two months after discharge, and (4) three months after discharge. Two additional questionnaires were collected during admission. Generalized estimating equation (GEE) models were fitted to identify variables associated with PA over time. We followed the STROBE checklist for reporting the study. Results The PA scores at the four follow-up visits were 1039.50 (346.50-1953.00) (baseline/T1), 630.00 (1.00-1260.00) (T2), 693.00 (1-1323.00) (T3) and 693.00 (160.88–1386.00) (T4). The PA of CHF patients decreased unevenly, with the lowest level occurring two weeks after discharge, and gradually improving at two and three months after discharge. CHF-related symptoms and kinesiophobia were significantly associated with changes in PA over time. Compared with before hospitalization, an increase in CHF-related symptoms at two weeks and two months after discharge was significantly associated with decreased PA. According to our path analysis, CHF-related symptoms were positively and directly associated with kinesiophobia, and kinesiophobia was negatively and directly related to PA. Moreover, CHFrelated symptoms are indirectly related to PA through kinesiophobia. Conclusion PA changed during the postdischarge transition period and was associated with CHF-related symptoms and kinesiophobia in CHF patients. Reducing CHF-related symptoms helps improve kinesiophobia in CHF patients. In addition, the reduction in CHF-related symptoms led to an increase in PA through the improvement of kinesiophobia. Objective: The clinical efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) after Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is still controversial, and the purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effect of CBT on pain, knee function, and psychological status of patients after TKA. Methods: We systematically searched electronic databases such as CNKI, CBM, VIP, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE for randomized controlled studies up to February 30, 2023. Screening against inclusion criteria to select valid studies and extract data. The quality of included studies was evaluated by the Cochrane Collaboration risk-of-bias 2 (RoB 2) tool for randomized trials. Statistical analysis of the data from this study was carried out using Stata 15.1 software. Results: Finally, our meta-analysis incorporated seven randomized controlled studies of high quality, including 608 patients. The findings of the meta-analysis demonstrated a noteworthy decrease in kinesiophobia levels during the early postoperative phase in the CBT group as compared to the usual care group (WMD = -6.35, 95% CI: -7.98 to -4.72, Z = 7.64, P < 0.001). However, no statistically significant difference between the CBT and usual care groups in terms of postoperative pain as well as knee function. Background: The current study aimed to determine the changes in pre-and post-operative Pittsburg sleep quality index (PSQI) and Tampa scale of kinesiophobia (TSK) values ​​according to the Hamada classification in patients who underwent reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) for rotator cuff tear arthropathy (RCTA). Methods: One hundred and eight patients who underwent RSA for RCTA were reviewed retrospectively. The patients were divided into two groups with low grade (stages 1-2-3) (n = 49) and high grade (stages 4a-4b-5) (n = 59) according to the Hamada classification, which is the radiographic evaluation of RCTA. PSQI and TSK values ​​were calculated preoperatively, and post-operatively at the 6th week, 6th month, and 1st year. The change in PSQI and TSK values ​​between the evaluations and the effect of staging according to the Hamada classification on this change was examined. Results: When compared in preoperative evaluations, PSQI and TSK scores were found to be lower in low-grade group 1 (7.39 ± 1.56, 51.88 ± 4.62, respectively) than in high-grade group 2 (10.47 ± 2.39, 57.05 ± 3.25, respectively) according to Hamada classification (both p < 0.001). In the postoperative evaluations, PSQI and TSK results decreased gradually compared to the preoperative evaluations, and there was a severe decrease in both parameters between the 6th-week and 6th-month evaluations (both p < 0.001). Preoperatively, 102 (95%) patients had sleep disturbance (PSQI ≥ 6), and 108 (100%) patients had high kinesiophobia (TSK > 37). In the 1st year follow-ups, sleep disturbance was observed in 5 (5%) patients and kinesiophobia in 1 (1%) patient. When the Hamada stages were compared, it was seen that there was a significant difference before the operation (both p < 0.001), but the statistically significant difference disappeared in the PSQI value in the 1st year (p = 0.092) and in the TSK value in the 6th month (p = 0.164) post-operatively. It was observed that Hamada staging caused significant differences in PSQI and TSK values ​​in the preoperative period but did not affect the clinical results after treatment. Conclusions: RSA performed based on RCTA improves sleep quality and reduces kinesiophobia. Background: Physical activity is a guideline-recommended first-line intervention for people with knee osteoarthritis. Physical activity levels, and its potential correlates, is underexplored in Asian populations with knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Participants enrolled in a longitudinal study in Singapore self-reported physical activity (UCLA activity score), function (Knee Osteoarthritis Outcome Score [KOOS-12]), kinesiophobia (Brief fear of movement [BFOM]), self-efficacy (ASES-8), and quality of life (EQ-5D-5 L). One-Way ANOVA was used to test the difference in outcomes between UCLA categories, while ordinal logistic regression was used to identify the associated factors to physical activity level. Results: Seventy-three percent of all enrolled participants (n = 311/425) reported either inactivity or low physical activity (median 4, IQR 3–5). Significant, weak, positive correlations were observed be-tween UCLA activity score and either KOOS-12 (Spearman's rho: 0.1961; p < 0.001), ASES-8 (0.1983; p = 0.004), or EQ-5D-5 L (0.2078; p < 0.001). A significant, weak, negative correlation was observed between physical activity and BFOM (-0.2183; p < 0.001). Significant differences in function between groups (moderate vs. inactive or low physical activity) were not clinically important. Participants with obesity, from the eldest age category (i.e. ≥75), or who identified as Malay or female, were less physically active than those with a healthy BMI, below the age of 54, or who identified as Chinese or male, respectively. Conclusion: Healthcare professionals in Asia should be aware of the large proportion of people with knee osteoarthritis who are either inactive or have low physical activity levels. Background: Muscle weakness, balance, and functional capacity are affected in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in dialysis. However, studies about kinesiophobia, peripheral and respiratory muscle strength, balance, exercise capacity, fatigue, and physical activity level in patients with CKD 3–4 are limited. The study aimed to compare the functional exercise capacity, peripheral and respiratory muscle strength, pulmonary function, balance, kinesiophobia, physical activity, fatigue, and dyspnea between patients with CKD 3–4 and controls. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 43 patients and 45 controls. Functional exercise capacity [6-Minute Walking Test (6MWT)], peripheral and respiratory muscle strength, pulmonary function, dyspnea, fatigue, physical activity, balance [Berg Balance Scale (BBS)], and kinesiophobia were evaluated. Results: Demographic characteristics were similar in patients [53(50–57) y, 26 M/17F] and controls [51(4.506-55) y, 33 M/12F] (p > 0.05). The 6MWT, respiratory and peripheral muscle strength, pulmonary function, physical activity, and BBS were significantly lower, and the level of dyspnea and kinesiophobia were higher in patients compared with controls (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Patients had impaired functional exercise capacity, upper and lower extremity muscle strength, respiratory muscle strength, pulmonary function, and balance, increased perception of dyspnea and kinesiophobia, and reduced physical activity level compared with controls. Background: Movement behaviours, such as sedentary behaviour (SB) and moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), are linked with multiple aspects of health and can be influenced by various pain-related psychological factors, such as fear of movement, pain catastrophising and self-efficacy for exercise. However, the relationships between these factors and postoperative SB and MVPA remain unclear in patients undergoing surgery for lumbar degenerative conditions. This study aimed to investigate the association between preoperative pain-related psychological factors and postoperative SB and MVPA in patients with low back pain (LBP) and degenerative disc disorder at 6 and 12 months after lumbar fusion surgery. Methods: Secondary data were collected from 118 patients (63 women and 55 men; mean age 46 years) who underwent lumbar fusion surgery in a randomised controlled trial. SB and MVPA were measured using the triaxial accelerometer ActiGraph GT3X+. Fear of movement, pain catastrophising and self-efficacy for exercise served as predictors. The association between these factors and the relative time spent in SB and MVPA 6 and 12 months after surgery was analysed via linear regression models, adjusting for potential confounders. Results: Preoperative fear of movement was significantly associated with relative time spent in SB at 6 and 12 months after surgery (β = 0.013, 95% confidence interval = 0.004 to 0.022, p = 0.007). Neither pain catastrophising nor self-efficacy for exercise showed significant associations with relative time spent in SB and MVPA at these time points. Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that preoperative fear of movement was significantly associated with postoperative SB in patients with LBP and degenerative disc disorder. This finding underscores the potential benefits of preoperative screening for pain-related psychological factors, including fear of movement, preoperatively. Such screenings could aid in identifying patients who might benefit from targeted interventions to promote healthier postoperative movement behaviour and improved health outcomes. Background: This study aimed to compare the effects of cognitive functional therapy (CFT) and movement system impairment (MSI)-based treatment on pain intensity, disability, Kinesiophobia, and gait kinetics in patients with chronic non-specific low back pain (CNSLBP). Methods: In a single-blind randomized clinical trial, we randomly assigned 91 patients with CNSLBP into CFT (n = 45) and MSI-based treatment (n = 46) groups. An 8-week training intervention was given to both groups. The researchers measured the primary outcome, which was pain intensity (Numeric rating scale), and the secondary outcomes, including disability (Oswestry disability index), Kinesiophobia (Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale), and vertical ground reaction force (VGRF) parameters at self-selected and faster speed (Force distributor treadmill). We evaluated patients at baseline, at the end of the 8-week intervention (post-treatment), and six months after the first treatment. We used mixed-model ANOVA to evaluate the effects of the interaction between time (baseline vs. post-treatment vs. six-month follow-up) and group (CFT vs. MSI-based treatment) on each measure. Results: CFT showed superiority over MSI-based treatment in reducing pain intensity (P < 0.001, Effect size (ES) = 2.41), ODI (P < 0.001, ES = 2.15), and Kinesiophobia (P < 0.001, ES = 2.47) at eight weeks. The CFT also produced greater improvement in VGRF parameters, at both self-selected (FPF[P < 0.001, ES = 3], SPF[P < 0.001, ES = 0.5], MSF[P < 0.001, ES = 0.67], WAR[P < 0.001, ES = 1.53], POR[P < 0.001, ES = 0.8]), and faster speed, FPF(P < 0.001, ES = 1.33, MSF(P < 0.001, ES = 0.57), WAR(P < 0.001, ES = 0.67), POR(P < 0.001, ES = 2.91)] than the MSI, except SPF(P < 0.001, ES = 0.0) at eight weeks. Conclusion: This study suggests that the CFT is associated with better results in clinical and cognitive characteristics than the MSI-based treatment for CNSLBP, and the researchers maintained the treatment effects at six-month follow-up. Also, This study achieved better improvements in gait kinetics in CFT. CTF seems to be an appropriate and applicable treatment in clinical setting. Background: Stratified models of care are valuable for addressing psychosocial factors which influence the outcome of patients with musculoskeletal disorders. Introducing such models in undergraduate training has the potential to propagate this knowledge with evidence and foster its implementation. The objective of this paper is to explore the perception and changes in the fear-avoidance beliefs of physiotherapy students participating in a developed blended learning course on stratified care. Methodology: A mixed-methods with a convenient sample of two consecutive cohorts were given a blended learning course on stratified care for patients with low back pain. The blended learning course comprised scientific rudiments and application of stratified care in clinical practice conceptualised using the KERN' 6-step approach. The exam scores, perceptions, performance on self-reflection-tests and pre- and post-scores on The Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia for Physiotherapists' (TSK-PT) were obtained. After gaining clinical experience, participants were invited to discuss their clinical experiences and perceptions in workshops. The quantitative data was analysed explorative-descriptively. The qualitative data was analysed following an inductive coding system with constant comparisons. Results: Ninety-one participants consented to the evaluation (mean age = 22.9 ± 1.6 years), 66% were female. Exam scores correlated with time spent in training (r = 0.30) and scores on self-reflection-tests 1 and 2 (r = 0.40 and r = 0.41). Participants in both cohorts described the learning resources as promoting their interest in the subject (72% and 94%), up-to-date (91% and 93%) and helpful (91% and 97%). The fear-avoidance scores for participants decreased from 53.5 (± 9.96) to 40.1 (± 12.4) with a large effect size (d = 1.18). The regression model [F (2, 49) = 1151.2, p < 0.001] suggests that pre-TSK-PT and the interest of participants in the training predicted post-TSK-PT. The workshop participants (n = 62) all worked in clinical practice. Emerging from the analysis were 4 categories (evolving to maturity in practice, perceiving determinants of stratified care, strategising for implementation and adopting an outlook for future practice). Conclusion: The quality of engagement in learning, training strategy and interest in the subject contributes immensely to learning outcomes. Background: Kinesiophobia is one of the most common and aversive psychological phenomena among patients after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This study aimed to identify trajectories of kinesiophobia, examine factors distinguishing these trajectories, and clarify the association between trajectories of kinesiophobia and rehabilitation outcomes. Methods: In this prospective cohort study, the patients who underwent TKA were recruited between December 2021 and April 2022 from three orthopedic wards of a tertiary hospital in China. Kinesiophobia was measured using the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia at baseline (T0), and then at 1 month (T1) and 3 months (T2) after TKA to perform latent class growth analysis. Meanwhile, rehabilitation outcomes were assessed at 3 months after TKA, using the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale, the Hospital for Special Surgery-Knee Scale, Barthel Index, and the Impact on Participation and Autonomy questionnaire. Results: The four kinesiophobia trajectories identified were as follows: low stable group (n = 120), rapid recovering group (n = 31), slow recovering group (n = 48), and stable moderate group (n = 58). Body mass index, employment status, heart disease, and pain degree significantly predicted trajectory groups (all p < 0.05). Analysis of variance revealed significant differences between the four kinesiophobia trajectories concerning all rehabilitation outcomes, except for the activities of daily living. Conclusion: Distinct kinesiophobia trajectories were identified, and nurses should assess the kinesiophobia of patients after TKA in the early phase. Patients in the slow recovering group are worthy of a specific focus because of their poor recovery after undergoing TKA. Background: While fear of movement is an important predictor of pain and disability in osteoarthritis (OA), its impact on patients with hip OA remains uncertain. This study aimed to determine whether fear of movement, evaluated by the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK)-11, and pain catastrophizing, evaluated by the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), were associated with quality of life (QOL) in patients with hip OA. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between November 2017 and December 2018. Ninety-one consecutively enrolled patients with severe hip OA were scheduled for primary unilateral total hip arthroplasty. The EuroQOL-5 Dimensions questionnaire was used to measure general QOL. The Japanese Orthopedic Association Hip Disease Evaluation Questionnaire was used to assess disease-specific QOL. The covariates included age, sex, body mass index (BMI), pain intensity, high pain catastrophizing (PCS ≥ 30), and high kinesiophobia (TSK-11 ≥ 25). Variables were subjected to multivariate analysis using each QOL scale. Results: In multiple regression analysis, pain intensity, high pain catastrophizing, and BMI were independently correlated with the disease-specific QOL scale. High pain catastrophizing, pain intensity, and high kinesiophobia were independently correlated with the general QOL scale. Conclusions: High pain catastrophizing (PCS ≥ 30) was independently associated with disease and general QOL scales. Background: Previously, researchers reported performance enhancements following long-term plyometric training in athletes with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (LCA). However, the effects of combined eccentric and plyometric training on measures of isokinetic strength and psychological statues in male athletes have not been examined yet. Knowledge on the effects of combined eccentric and plyometric training help to better plan and program rehabilitations sessions and thus return-to-sports. Objective: This study sought to compare the effects of three different rehabilitation training programs, eccentric training (ECC), plyometric training (PLYO), or combined eccentric and plyometric training (COMB), on psychological measures (kinesiophobia [TSK-CF], functional knee assessment, knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score [KOOS], international knee documentation committee 2000 questionnaire [IKDC], and knee flexor and extensor isokinetic muscle performance (peak torque [PT], total work, ratio [R-HQ], and ratio of total work [R-TW]) at different angular velocities post ACL surgery in male elite athletes. Methods: Forty elite male athletes from different sports (e.g., athletics, team sports) with ACL reconstruction participated in this study. The study started after a 14-weeks post-surgery rehabilitation program, which was identical for all subjects. After this initial rehabilitation period, athletes were randomly assigned to three experimental groups, ECC (n = 10), PLYO (n = 10), and COMB (n = 10), and a control group (CON: n = 10). Testing was conducted pre- and post-the 6-weeks intervention period and included the TSK-CF, KOOS, and IKDC. Peak torque of the knee extensors/flexors was tested at 90, 180, 240 °/s, after the 6-weeks training program only. Results: Participants' adherence rate was 100% across all groups and none reported any training or test-related injury. No significant between-group baseline differences (pre-6-weeks intervention) were observed for any of the reported psychological and muscle strength parameters. Significant group-by-time interactions were found for TSK-CF (p = 0.001, d = 2.85), KOOS (p = 0.001, d = 1.31), and IKDC (p = 0.001, d = 1.07). The post-hoc analyses indicated that COMB showed larger pre-post improvements for all psychological variables (p < 0.001, d = 2.95 to 13.15), compared with PLYO, ECC, and CON. Contrast analyses demonstrated that COMB yielded significantly greater improvements compared with CON, PLYO, ECC for all isokinetic parameters at all three angular velocities (all p < 0.001, d = 0.99 to 4.61). Conclusion: The results showed that COMB induced greater gains for measures of psychological status and isokinetic muscle strength compared with single-mode PLYO and ECC in elite male athletes during a post-surgery ACL rehabilitation period. Accordingly, it is recommended to implement COMB as an effective rehabilitation means to improve knee function in male elite athletes. Background: Pain is pivotal in managing knee osteoarthritis (KOA), necessitating tailored rehabilitative strategies. The biopsychosocial framework suggests that a multifaceted approach is crucial for understanding and managing pain in KOA patients. This study explored the factors that influence pain intensity through biological and psychosocial determinants from a biopsychological perspective in KOA patients., Methods: This cross-sectional study included 150 KOA patients with Kellgren-Lawrence (K/L) grades 2-4. Patients were classified into three groups based on their Visual Analogue Scale scores: mild (n = 79), moderate (n = 40), and severe pain intensity (n = 31). The biological determinants included the body mass index, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) for knee function, the 30-second sit-to-stand (30STS) test for functional strength, and the Timed-Up and Go (TUG) test for mobility. Psychological determinants comprised the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) for emotional well-being, the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) for kinesiophobia, and the Activities-Specific Balance Confidence (ABC) scale for balance confidence. Social determinants included educational attainment and the Short Form-36 (SF-36) for health-related quality of life., Results: Significant differences in biopsychosocial determinants were identified among the various pain intensity groups. Biological factors, including WOMAC scores, TUG, and 30STS tests; psychological factors, such as depression and anxiety (DASS-21) and kinesiophobia (TSK); and social factors, including mean years of education and all SF-36 subscales, were significantly worse in the severe pain group (p < 0.05). However, balance confidence did not differ between groups (p = 0.060). Patients in the severe pain group exhibited poorer outcomes across biological, psychological, and social domains, whereas the moderate pain group displayed worse biological and social outcomes when compared to the mild pain group (p < 0.05)., Conclusion: This study emphasizes the significance of a biopsychosocial framework in managing pain in KOA patients. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationships between kinesiophobia and injury severity, balance ability, knee pain intensity, self-efficacy, and functional status in patients with meniscus injuries and to identify key predictors of kinesiophobia., Design: A single-center, prospective cross-sectional study., Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 123 patients diagnosed with meniscus injuries at Fujian Provincial Hospital was conducted. The knee range of motion test was used to determine limitations in knee joint mobility, whereas magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used to assess the severity of meniscus damage. Several validated scales were administered: the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK-17) to measure kinesiophobia, the visual analog scale (VAS) to assess pain intensity, the general self-efficacy scale (GSES) to evaluate self-efficacy, and the Lysholm knee score (LKS) to assess knee functional status. Additionally, balance ability was assessed using the Huber 360 Neuromuscular Control Training and Assessment System (DJO, USA). Spearman's correlation analysis was applied to explore factors associated with kinesiophobia, whereas simple linear regression analysis was used to identify its predictors., Results: Among the 123 participants included in the study, 60.16% were identified as experiencing kinesiophobia. Among these participants, 69.10% had grade III meniscus injuries, and 33.3% exhibited limited joint movement. The key clinical characteristics were as follows: the median VAS score was 4 (IQR 2-6), the GSES score was 22 (IQR 20-29), and the LKS score was 45 (IQR 38-55). Kinesiophobia was significantly correlated with injury severity, limited joint movement, pain intensity, self-efficacy, and other functional parameters (P < 0.05). However, no significant correlation was detected between kinesiophobia and limits of stability. Simple linear regression analysis (R²=0.917) revealed several significant predictors of kinesiophobia, including injury severity (β = 2.08), pain intensity (β = 0.882), Romberg quotient (RQ) (β = 3.239), and limited joint movement (β = 0.868). In contrast, self-efficacy (β =-0.455) was negatively associated with kinesiophobia. Furthermore, Grade III injuries and RQ were found to be associated with markedly higher levels of kinesiophobia., Conclusion: Kinesiophobia is strongly associated with knee injury severity, limited joint movement, RQ, pain intensity, and self-efficacy, which are key predictors. Background: Kinesiophobia may hinder physical performance measures and functional quality of life in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). This study aims to quantify differences in physical function in patients with JIA compared to healthy controls, and determine the effects of kinesiophobia on physical function and physical activity. Methods: This was a comparative study of participants with JIA and healthy controls (JIA n = 26, control n = 17). All children with JIA had lower extremity joint involvement. Performance-based measures included gait speed, chair and stair navigation performance. Self-reported measures included Patient Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS®) Physical Function Mobility, and Pain Interference and the Pediatric Functional Activity Brief Scale (Pedi-FABS). The Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK-11) assessed patient fear of movement due to pain. Linear regression models were used to determine the contribution of TSK-11 scores on performance test and Pedi-FABS scores. Results: Gait speeds were 11–15% slower, chair rise repetitions were 28% fewer, and stair ascent and descent times were 26–31% slower in JIA than controls (p <.05). PROMIS® Physical Function Mobility scores were 10% lower and Pain Interference scores were 2.6 times higher in JIA than healthy controls (p =.003). TSK-11 scores were higher in JIA than controls (p <.0001). After controlling for covariates, TSK-11 scores explained 11.7–26.5% of the variance of regression models for stair climb time, chair rise performance and Pedi-FABS scores (p <.05). Conclusions: Children with JIA experience difficulty with tasks related to body transfers. Background: Cervical spine muscle weakness is well demonstrated in individuals with chronic neck pain. There is a lack of literature evaluating clinically applicable means of assessing isometric cervical strength in chronic whiplash associated disorder (WAD). This study assessed the reliability of self-resisted isometric cervical strength testing using a handheld dynamometer. The relationship between strength and neck pain-related disability and kinesiophobia was also investigated.Methods: Twenty subjects with chronic WAD performed maximum-effort isometric cervical flexion, extension, side flexion, and rotation against a hand held dynamometer. The dynamometer was held by the subject, who provided self-resistance. Subjects completed two sessions of testing on one day with two different examiners, and one session on a subsequent day with one of the original examiners. Subjects completed the Neck Disability Index (NDI) and Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) prior to the first testing session.Results: Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) for directional strength measures were fair to high (0.71-0.88 for intra-rater and 0.79-0.91 for inter-rater). Total strength (sum of all directional strengths) ICCs were high for both intra-rater (ICC = 0.91) and inter-rater (ICC = 0.94) measures. All statistical tests for ICCs demonstrated significance (α < 0.05). Agreement was assessed using Bland Altman (BA) analysis with 95% limits of agreement. BA analysis demonstrated difference scores between the two testing sessions that ranged from 3.0-17.3% and 4.5-28.5% of the mean score for intra and inter-rater measures, respectively. Most measures did not meet the a priori standard for agreement. A moderate to good inverse relationship was demonstrated between kinesiophobia (TSK score) and six out of seven strength measures (α < .05). No significant correlation was found between neck disability (NDI) and cervical strength in any direction.Conclusion: This study demonstrated fair to high reliability of self resisted isometric cervical strength testing in the chronic WAD population. All directional strength measures except flexion demonstrated a significant inverse relationship with kinesiophobia. No cervical strength measures were correlated with neck disability. These results support testing cervical strength in this manner to reliably assess change over time within individual patients. The value of such measurement requires further consideration given the lack of correlation between cervical strength and disability. Background: Patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) frequently present with kinesiophobia. Though large body of evidence reported the impact of kinesiophobia in patients with CLBP, there are paucity of studies in associating kinesiophobia to muscle endurance and position sense in patients with CLBP. The primary aim of the study is to compare the impact of kinesiophobia on lumbar extensor endurance, position sense in patient with CLBP, and asymptomatic individuals. Secondarily, we aim to examine the association between kinesiophobia and lumbar extensor endurance, position sense, pain intensity, and functional ability in patients with CLBP. Thirdly, we aim to assess the degree of association of various factors on CLBP, lumbar endurance, and position sense.Material and Methods: This case-control study will have 200 patients with CLBP and 400 controls. Kinesiophobia, lumbar endurance, and lumbar position sense will be assessed with Tampa Scale, Soren's lumbar extensor test, and lumbar repositioning test respectively. Secondarily, the pain intensity will be assessed with visual analog scale and functional ability with Patient-specific Functional Scale in patients with CLBP. Lumbar endurance and joint position sense will be compared between subjects with and without kinesiophobia. Kinesiophobia scores will be compared with lumbar extensor endurance and proprioception joint position errors, pain intensity, and functional ability. Simple and multiple binary logistic regression will be used to determine crude and adjusted odd's ratio for kinesiophobia, lumbar position sense and kinesiophobia, and lumbar endurance.Discussion: The finding from this study can be generalized as this study has adequate sample size and subgroup analysis by adjusting the variables to draw a valid conclusion. Background: Recurrent hemarthrosis that begin in childhood lead to progressive joint deterioration. Patients with haemophilia have chronic pain, functional disability and a reduced perception of health-related quality of life.Purpose: To analyse the perceived quality of life of adult patients with haemophilic arthropathy and its relationship with pain, joint condition, kinesiophobia and catastrophism.Methods: Eighty-three adult patients with haemophilia were included in this multicentre, cross-sectional, descriptive study. Perceived quality of life (36-Item Short Form Health Survey), perceived usual and maximum pain (visual analogue scale), joint condition (Haemophilia Joint Health Score), kinesiophobia (Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia) and catastrophism (Pain Catastrophizing Scale) were assessed. Sociodemographic, clinical and therapeutic variables and drug consumption for pain control were collected. Descriptive statistics used means and standard deviations. The correlation of quality of life with the dependent variables was calculated with the Pearson correlation test. The differences in quality of life as a function of the binomial variables were calculated with Student's t-test for independent samples.Results: Physical component of quality of life perceived by patients with hemophilia is lower than Spanish population (30.51 VS 48.85). Regarding the mental component, patients with hemophilia showed higher values (56.07 VS 49.97). Catastrophism correlated (p < .05) with all items of quality of life questionnaire. Kinesiophobia correlated (p < .05) with all items of quality of life except to role-emotional (r = -.18; p > .05). Habitual and maximal joint pain correlated with all items except to role-emotional (r = - .19 and r = - .09, respectively) and mental component score (r = - .16 and r = - .07, respectively). Catastrophism and weekly drug intake were inversely correlated with quality of life. Age was positively correlated with perceived quality of life. There were differences in quality of life as a function of the severity of haemophilia and the intake of drugs for pain control.Conclusions: The perceived quality of life of adult patients with haemophilia is worse than that of the Spanish population. Objective: This study aims to investigate the occurrence of postoperative kinesiophobia in patients with CSM and compare the postoperative recovery of patients with and without kinesiophobia to understand its influence on clinical outcomes in CSM., Methods: Between November 2020 and November 2022, surgical treatment was performed in the neurosurgical wards of 2 Grade III Class A general public hospitals in the Fujian Province. The demographic and disease data of the patients were collected, and patients were divided into a kinesiophobia group and non-kinesiophobia group according to the Tampa kinesiophobia Scale (TSK). The cervical dysfunction index, cervical Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) rating, self-anxiety rating, and activity of daily living rating scales were collected three months postoperatively. The influence of postoperative kinesiophobia on early rehabilitation was also analysed., Results: A total of 122 patients were an average age of (55.2 ± 10.3) years included in this study. The average score of kinesophobia after surgery was 41.2 ± 4.5, with an incidence of 75.4%. Background: Kinesiophobia after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) may lead to decreased compliance with rehabilitation exercises. Effective interventions are essential to overcome kinesiophobia after PCI. The aim of this trial is to investigate the clinical effects of an intervention based on the fear-avoidance model (FAM) on kinesiophobia in post-PCI patients., Methods: Eighty participants will be recruited in the Department of Cardiology in Hebei Provincial People's Hospital. And they will be randomly allocated to the test group and undergo a 5-day step-to-step intervention. The primary outcome will be the scores of a scale on kinesiophobia. Secondary outcome measures included self-efficacy for exercise, psychogenic anxiety, and the occurrence of cardiovascular adverse events. Background: Currently used performance measures for discrimination were not informative to determine the clinical benefit of predictor variables. The purpose was to evaluate if a former relevant predictor, kinesiophobia, remained clinically relevant to predict chronic occupational low back pain (LBP) in the light of a novel discriminative performance measure, Decision Curve Analysis (DCA), using the Net Benefit (NB).Methods: Prospective cohort data (n = 170) of two merged randomized trials with workers with LBP on sickleave, treated with Usual Care (UC) were used for the analyses. An existing prediction model for chronic LBP with the variables 'a clinically relevant change in pain intensity and disability status in the first 3 months', 'baseline measured pain intensity' and 'kinesiophobia' was compared with the same model without the variable 'kinesiophobia' using the NB and DCA.Results: Both prediction models showed an equal performance according to the DCA and NB. Between 10 and 95% probability thresholds of chronic LBP risk, both models were of clinically benefit. There were virtually no differences between both models in the improved classification of true positive (TP) patients.Conclusions: This study showed that the variable kinesiophobia, which was originally included in a prediction model for chronic LBP, was not informative to predict chronic LBP by using DCA. DCA and NB have to be used more often to develop clinically beneficial prediction models in workers because they are more sensitive to evaluate the discriminate ability of prediction models. Background: A key concern for people with chronic pain is experiencing increased pain and/or re-injury. Consequently, individuals with chronic pain can develop a maladaptive fear of movement that leads to adverse functional consequences. A primary goal of chronic pain rehabilitation is re-engagement in feared movements through exposure. This is often challenging since safe movement can be uncomfortable. Virtual environments provide a promising opportunity to safely and gradually expose Veterans to movements that are avoided in the real world. The current study will utilize multiple virtual reality (VR) applications (APPs) of varying the intensity levels ranging from passive distraction from pain to active exposure to feared movement. The primary aims of this pilot are to examine VR as an adjunctive nonpharmacological intervention to assist with the adoption and implementation of skills to decrease fear of movement and increase overall functioning among Veterans with chronic pain. Second, to build a hierarchy of VR APPs to assist in gradual exposure to feared movements. Methods: This study will be conducted in the Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program (CPRP) at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, a unique inpatient program within the VA system. Participants will include up to 20 Veterans who receive a VR intervention as part of their physical therapy. A rating form containing qualitative and quantitative experiences will be administered following each VR session to assess feasibility and to provide descriptive information for the proposed hierarchy. Effect sizes will be calculated from intake and discharge measures for the primary outcome fear of movement and secondary pain and functional outcomes. Discussion: This study will inform the feasibility of a randomized controlled trial examining the clinical utility of using VR to reduce fear of movement and increase function among Veterans with chronic pain. VR has the advantage of being easily implemented both within VA healthcare settings as well as in Veterans' own residences, where engagement in ongoing self-management approaches is often most challenging. Patients aged ≥ 18 years and diagnosed with osteoporosis through quantitative computed tomography (QCT) were included in the study. They were able to cooperate during follow-up and had normal cognitive function. Patients with combined spinal curvature, thoracic deformity, and pulmonary dysfunction, accompanied by severe cardiovascular or limb dysfunction, and those who withdrew midway or participated in other clinical studies were excluded. According to whether to use the whole-process care model of the medical union, they were divided into intervention group and control group, with 74 cases each. The control group used conventional care, and the intervention group used the whole-process care model of the medical association. The occurrence of kinesiophobia between the two groups were compared. The dual-energy X-ray absorption detector is used to measure differences in bone density changes., Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups in the TSK scale score and the incidence of kinesiophobia before intervention (P > 0.05). The TSK scale scores of patients in the intervention group were higher than those in the control group at 3 months and 6 months after operation (P < 0.05). The incidence of kinesiophobia in the intervention group for 3 months and 6 months was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in bone mineral density between the two groups before and 3 months after intervention (P > 0.05). The bone mineral density of lumbar spine, femoral neck and total hip in the intervention group was significantly higher than that in the control group after 6 months of intervention (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: The whole-process care model of the medical association is used for osteoporosis patients, which might reduce the risk of kinesiophobia and improve the bone density of the lumbar spine and total hip in patients. Background: To date, there are no studies in the literature that define the internal structure of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) in patients with chronic neck pain based on factorial analysis. As such, we aimed to verify and identify the best structure of the Brazilian version of the TSK in patients with chronic neck pain., Methods: We included Brazilian participants aged ≥18 years, both sexes, with self-reported neck pain for more than 3 months and pain intensity ≥3 on the Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS). Dimensionality and number of TSK items were assessed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). We tested the following internal structures: structure 1 (1 domain and 17 items), structure 2 (1 domain and 11 items), structure 3 (2 domains and 11 items), and structure 4 (2 domains and 9 items). We used the Pain-Related Catastrophizing Thoughts Scale (PCTS) and the NPRS for construct validity. In addition, we assessed test-retest reliability for the seven-day interval using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC 2,1 ), Cronbach's alpha to assess internal consistency, and ceiling and floor effects., Results: The study sample included of 335 patients. Most were women (77.6%), young adults (~ 34 years), single (48.4%), with complete primary education (57.3%), physically inactive (66.6%), with a mean pain duration of 46 months and a mean pain intensity of ~ 5 points on the NPRS. Redundancy was found in the following items: item 1 with item 2 (modification indices = 21.419) and item 13 with item 15 (modification indices = 13.641). Subsequently, based on these paired analyses, the items with the lowest factor loadings (items 2 and 15) were excluded. As such, TSK structure 4 was composed of two domains ("somatic focus" and "activity avoidance") and 9 items, which showed adequate fit indices and lower AIC and SABIC values. We observed significant values (p < 0.05) with a correlation magnitude greater than 0.142 to 0.657 between the two domains of the TSK-neck and the other instruments (PCTS and NPRS). We found excellent reliability (ICC 2,1  ≥ 0.96) and adequate internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha ≥0.98) of the TSK-neck. Finally, ceiling and floor effects were not observed., Conclusion: The TSK-neck structure with two domains (somatic focus and activity avoidance) and nine items is the most appropriate for patients with chronic neck pain., (© 2024. Background: Patients with non-operated traumatic primary anterior shoulder dislocation (PASD) are assumed to have less shoulder impairment than patients with recurrent anterior shoulder dislocations (RASD). This may impact treatment decision strategy. The aim was to study whether patients with non-operated traumatic PASD have less shoulder impairment than those with RASD.Methods: In a cross-sectional study baseline data from patients with PASD and RASD in a randomised controlled trial of non-operative shoulder exercise treatment were used. Shoulder function was self-reported (Western Ontario Shoulder Instability (WOSI), Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK), General Health (EQ-5D-VAS), Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS)), and measured (Constant-Murley shoulder Score (CMS total), CMS - Range of Motion (CMS-ROM, CMS - strength, proprioception, clinical tests).Results: In total, 56 patients (34 (28 men) with PASD and 22 (21 men) with RASD) (mean age 26 years) participated. WOSI total was 1064 and 1048, and TSK above 37 (indicating high re-injury fear) was present in 33 (97%) and 21 (96%) of the groups with PASD and RASD, with no group difference. CMS total (66.4 and 70.4), CMS-ROM (28.7 and 31.5), CMS-strength (injured shoulder: 7.6 kg and 9.1 kg), proprioception and clinical tests were the same. Furthermore, 26 (76%) with PASD and 13 (59%) with RASD reported not to have received non-operative shoulder treatment.Conclusions: Non-operated patients with PASD and self-reported shoulder trouble three-six weeks after initial injury do not have less shoulder impairment (self-reportedly or objectively measured) than non-operated patients RASD and self-reported shoulder trouble three-six weeks after their latest shoulder dislocation event. Background: Fear of harm (FoH) after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction (ACLR) should be addressed in physical therapy as it hampers return to sports. However, there are no instruments assessing FoH specific for ACLR. The objective of this study is to describe the development and measurement properties of the Photograph Series of Sports Activities for ACLR (PHOSA-ACLR) measuring ACL injury related FoH.Methods: Based on literature and opinion of physical therapists with extensive experience in ACLR treatment, photographs depicting FoH inducing situations in ACL injury were considered for inclusion in the instrument. For each photograph the patients is asked to report perceived harmfulness. The set of photographs was completed by two samples of patients with ACLR: 1 cross-sectional sample (n = 55), and 1 test-retest reliability sample (n = 58). Internal consistency and structural validity were assessed in 109 patients. In 58 patients criterion validity was assessed by calculating pearson correlations with the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK). Correlations with self-reported knee function (KOOS and Lysholm score), and Knee Self-efficacy Scale (K-SES) were computed for hypothesis testing. Test-retest reliability was determined in a group of 55 patients, assessed twice with 1 week between assessments.Results: Twelve photographs depicting sports related movements that are likely to invoke FoH after ACLR were selected. Two items were deleted because of lack of discrimination. The remaining 10 items were included in the PHOSA-ACLR, and the scale showed excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's Alpha is .95). Items reflected one dimension, and was strongly correlated with TSK (r = .59). A priori formulated hypotheses are confirmed and test-retest correlation was excellent (ICC = .86).Conclusion: The PHOSA-ACLR showed acceptable measurement properties. The PHOSA-ACLR gives specific information about fear invoking sports situations that are not measured by other kinesophobia measures. Background: The contribution of kinesiophobia (fear of movement) to the pain experience among older adults has been poorly evaluated. The aim of this study was to study prevalence at baseline, development over a 12-month period and cognitive-affective variables of kinesiophobia in a population-based sample of older adults with chronic pain.Methods: The study included 433 older adults (+65 years) with chronic pain (mean age 74.8 years) randomly selected using a Swedish register of inhabitants. Kinesiophobia was measured at baseline and 12-month follow-up with the 11-item version of the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK-11). Associations of demographic-, cognitive affective - and pain-related variables to kinesiophobia were analysed with linear regression analyses.Results: The mean level of kinesiophobia was low. Worsening and recovering from kinesiophobia occurred over time, but the mean level of kinesiophobia remained unchanged (p = 0.972). High levels of kinesiophobia (TSK ≥35) were found among frailer and older adults predominately living in care homes, but not dependent on sex. Poor self-perceived health (OR = 8.84) and high pain intensity (OR = 1.22) were significantly associated with kinesiophobia.Conclusion: Results indicate that potential interventions regarding kinesiophobia among older adults should aim to decrease pain intensity and strengthen health beliefs. Background: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a multifactorial form of rheumatic condition contributing to physical and psychological factors. Treatments have been provided solely and often compared with each other. An alternative view is that combined treatments addressing physical and psychological factors may result in more benefits. This study aimed to investigate the effect of pain neuroscience education (PNE) followed by Pilates exercises (PEs) in participants with knee OA, compared to PE alone., Methods: In this two-arm assessor-blind pilot randomized controlled trial, fifty-four community-dwelling adults with knee OA were randomly assigned to the PNE followed by PEs and PEs groups (27 in each group). The study was conducted between early July 2021 and early March 2022 at the university's health center. Primary outcomes were Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) subscales of pain and physical limitation and secondary outcomes were Pain Catastrophizing Scale, Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia, Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire, and Timed "Up & Go" test covering function. The primary and secondary outcomes were measured at baseline and eight weeks post-treatment. A general linear mixed model was used for between-group comparison with a statistical significance level of 0.05., Results: Significant within-group differences were observed in all outcomes in both groups at post-treatment. There were no statistically between-group differences in pain (adjusted mean difference: -0.8; 95% CI -2.2 to 0.7; p = 0.288), physical limitation (adjusted mean difference: -0.4; 95% CI -4 to 3.1; p = 0.812) and function (adjusted mean difference: -0.8; 95% CI -1.8 to 0.1; p = 0.069) at eight weeks. For pain catastrophizing (adjusted mean difference: -3.9; 95% CI -7.2 to -0.6; p = 0.021), kinesiophobia (adjusted mean difference: -4.2; 95% CI -8.1 to -0.4; p = 0.032), and self-efficacy (adjusted mean difference: 6.1; 95% CI 0.7 to 11.5; p = 0.028) statistically between-group improvements were observed favoring PNE followed by PEs group after the treatment., Conclusions: Combining PNE with PEs could have superior effects on psychological characteristics but not on pain, physical limitation, and function, compared to PEs alone. Background: To explore the level of physical activity in a population based sample of older adults; to analyze the influence of pain characteristics and fear-avoidance beliefs as predictors of physical activity among older adults reporting chronic pain.Methods: Demographics, pain characteristics (duration, intensity), physical activity, kinesiophobia (excessive fear of movement/(re) injury), self-efficacy and self-rated health were measured with questionnaires at baseline and 12-months later. Logistic regression analyses were done to identify associations at baseline and predictors of physical activity 12-months later during follow-up.Results: Of the 1141 older adults (mean age 74.4 range 65-103 years, 53.5% women) included in the study, 31.1% of those with chronic pain were sufficiently active (scoring ≥ 4 on Grimby's physical activity scale) compared to 56.9% of those without chronic pain. Lower age (OR = 0.93, 95% CI = 0.88-0.99), low kinesiophobia OR = 0.95, 95% CI = 0.91-0.99), and higher activity level at baseline (OR = 10.0, 95% CI = 4.98-20.67) significantly predicted higher levels of physical activity in individuals with chronic pain.Conclusion: The level of physical activity was significantly lower among those with chronic pain and was significantly associated with kinesiophobia. Our findings suggest that fear- avoidance believes plays a more important role in predicting future physical activity levels than pain characteristics.
