The article explores the search for balance and equity due to rising concerns over the impact of construction activities on U.S. public health and the environment. Business owners, governments and environmental activists have looked for ways to mitigate the effects of industrial facilities on communities. Native American tribes have protested against a number of projects, claiming they pose risks to water resources and violate their sovereignty.
