SCIENTIFIC knowledge , *INDUSTRIAL capacity , *VIRAL transmission , *CORONAVIRUSES , *CITATION networks , *COVID-19 , *KNOWLEDGE management - Abstract
This manuscript aims to map and characterize, through knowledge routes, the evolution of scientific studies on coronavirus based on papers developed by researchers affiliated with research institutions in Brazil. Inspired by the KDD processes, the publication's data were obtained from Web of Science until 2021. Then the citation network was built and, using SPLC algorithm, the knowledge routes were designed. The results showed the high concentration of publications after 2020, demonstrating the concern and commitment of Brazilian researchers in investigations on this topic. The results also showed priority areas such as medical, followed by social that approach measures to contain the virus spread. It also identified two knowledge routes with different characteristics, reinforcing the scope of knowledge related to the topic. Thus, this paper contributes to the literature by presenting the evolution of scientific knowledge, reiterating the quality and production capacity of researchers affiliated to Brazilian institutions. It also contributes by presenting the most researched topics and pointing out the profiles of the researchers involved. Finally, it complements the current literature by ratifying the use of network analysis as a tool for representing and investigating knowledge, in addition to mapping and analyzing the evolution of knowledge. LABORATORY management ,DATA management ,BIOLOGICAL laboratories ,INFORMATION resources ,INFORMATION resources management ,BIOLOGICAL research - Abstract
Organizing information objective is to disseminate the information objects effectively to the users. It is a complex but important task that uses elements such as the form and informational content of documents. Organized information is a prerequisite for an efficient organization. The goal of this study is to discuss the proposal of developing a system to organize protocol information from biological laboratories capable of managing protocol data. Research laboratories are examples of organizations that have a diverse and complex set of data that must be well organized. Their flow of information needs to be mapped identifying people, information sources, technology used as well as products and services. In this paper we describe the development of the FluxP system to organize information on protocols from a Biology Research Laboratory -- The Animal Venoms and Toxins Laboratory (LVTA) from Federal University of Minas Gerais - Brazil. The following methodological procedures were adopted: technical visits, construction of a tool to manage the protocols (FluxP forms), categorization of the protocols used in the LVTA and experimental tests with 3 LVTA researchers. As a result, we highlight some features like: FluxP is able to manage protocol data making it simple to store and retrieve protocols to aid in the experimental work, increasing the reliability of experiments and helping reduce experimental errors. By establishing a central repository for protocols FluxP prevents protocols from being misplaced or lost and by categorizing them it makes simple to retrieve protocols based on keywords. The system is currently being used by LVTA to manage a collection of 50 protocols, and can be easily adapted for other laboratories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SCIENTIFIC literature ,SCIENTIFIC knowledge ,COVID-19 ,COVID-19 pandemic ,KNOWLEDGE representation (Information theory) ,BIBLIOMETRICS - Abstract
In the past two years, science has been mobilized around studies centered on the new pandemic phenomenon known as COVID-19, a variation of the coronavirus with higher transmission capacity and higher mortality. Thus, as a way of investigating the state of the art of this topic in the field of Information Science, this research sought to answer the following question: what is the Brazilian scientific production in Information Science regarding the COVID-19 pandemic? As main justification, we understand that systematically identifying and disseminating those studies may help the construction of an appropriate theoretical analysis on the theme in the national scope. To support our research theoretically and methodologically, we reserved a section to explore Domain Analysis (DA). Proposed by Hjørland and Albrechtsen (1995) around Information Science, this approach allows us to analyze domains of knowledge from their social interactions as discursive communities. Then, we describe the context of information in health, specifically the COVID-19 pandemic context. This is a quali-quantitative research: we made a textual analysis of the keywords found in the articles that make up the corpus and applied bibliometric criteria to identify occurrence patterns of the most productive authors and journals. Being a descriptiveexploratory research about COVID-19 in Brazil Information Science literature, we aimed to describe how the pandemic phenomenon influenced textual production in this context, seeking to better understand the theme and looking for reflections about the subject. It was possible to infer that the scientific dissemination of knowledge around this theme is closely related to research in information in health, and it even includes a new term in this perspective: "infodemia" (infodemic), a term that is related to the vastness of information made available via the web, especially on social media. In addition to that, the incidence frequency of terms such as comunidade (community) and competência em informação (information competence) enhances the significance of the area of IS in studies oriented toward knowledge organization and representation in face of the overload of information. This paper analyses the scientific collaboration network formed by the Brazilian universities that investigate in dentistry area. The constructed network is based on the published documents in the Scopus (Elsevier) database covering a period of 10 (ten) years. It is used social network analysis as the best methodological approach to visualize the capacity for collaboration, dissemination and transmission of new knowledge among universities. Cohesion and density of the collaboration network is analyzed, as well as the centrality of the universities as key-actors and the occurrence of subgroups within the network. Data were analyzed using the software UCINET and NetDraw. The number of documents published by each university was used as an indicator of its scientific production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this study is to outline a possible domain of curatorial activities in the context of Brazilian literature, using, for this, the theoretical-methodological approach of Domain Analysis. Two of the eleven approaches proposed by Hjørland for the characterization of a domain were undertaken: that of Bibliometric Studies and Terminological and Discourse Studies. The research is characterized as exploratory and theoretical in nature, reviewing a selection of Brazilian scientific literature on Information Science. The results demonstrate that it is possible to delineate the relationships between the themes and the theoretical positions that characterize the discourses around the term 'curation' by analyzing, comparing, and categorizing the essential qualities of the curatorial activities listed in the publications. It is concluded that by operationalizing the characterization of a domain, Domain Analysis allows more than outlining curatorial activities in their limits, analogies, and correspondences, but also identifying the nuclei of studies around this theme and their relations and research trends. COOPERATIVE research ,SCIENTIFIC community ,SOCIAL network analysis ,METROPOLIS - Abstract
The study of national academic characteristics is an imperative task for the understanding of national scientific production and the creation of effective science policy. Using a dataset of more than 3.2 million Brazilian curricula, we explore the academic community of PhDs working in Brazil in order to identify characteristics of the whole national network and in the knowledge area level. We used metrics from social network analysis and text mining techniques, as well as the patterns of collaboration between areas and the regional distribution of PhDs. The results show different general characteristics of the PhDs working in each Brazilian state and knowledge area, according to the social and economic characteristics of each of the five Brazilian regions. Different interaction profiles were described, like a less connected network in Linguistics, Letter, and Arts, in which each researcher is related, on average, to less than three other PhDs; on the opposite side, Agricultural Sciences each researcher is related, on average, to more than nine other PhDs of the network. It is clear that besides the capital and one or other major city, the Northeast Region is devoid of PhDs, a situation that is particularly problematic for the most destitute region of Brazil. DOCUMENTATION ,NATIONAL libraries ,HISTORY - Abstract
This article investigate the creation, in 1911, of the Serviço de Bibliographia e Documentação in the National Library from Brazil and what would have been the influence of the International Institute of Bibliography (IIB), founded in 1895 by Paul Otlet and Henri La Fontaine. Seeks to demonstrate that the creation of the Bibliography and Documentation Service can be considered part of the international cooperation project by Otlet and La Fontaine. It intends to contextualize the period of transformations by which the Brazilian National Library went through, especially during the construction of a new building and its further occupancy as well as the administrative changes implemented by its director at the time, Manoel Cícero Peregrino da Silva. The methodology consisted of bibliographic and documentation based reesearch in the archives of the Brazilian National Library and the Mundaneum Archives Centre in Belgium as well as the Brazilian Historic and Geographic Institute and the Foreign Ministry. The article argues that the establishment of the Serviço de Bibliographia e Documentação and Boletim Bibliographico da Bibliotheca Nacional were results of the contact maintained between the two institutions. It concludes that the International Institute of Bibliography and the Brazilian National Library sustained a close relationship for some years which apparently contributed to introduce the Documentation as a discipline in Brazil.
