This paper offers an integrated theoretical framework to explain interpersonal, moralistic conflict that combines the logic of the 'pure sociology' approach with a social psychological framework that highlights the importance of the human capacity for language, evaluation, and justification. While violations of normative expectations are the root causes of moralistic conflict, the paper argues that one can only determine the emergence of such conflict by assessing the nature of the behavior in question in relation to the social locations of the participants in combination with the justifications invoked. The central question that the theory addresses can be distilled as follows: What explains the emergence of interpersonal, moralistic conflict? The paper specifies three core assumptions, followed by a delineation of a series of propositions designed to explicate the conditions under which moralistic conflicts emerge. The theory identifies the combination of the social geometry of interpersonal encounters along with the mechanisms that typically are used to justify the grievances that individuals express toward one another. Cet article propose un cadre theorique integre pour expliquer les conflits moraux interpersonnels qui combine la logique de l'approche de la 'sociologie pure' avec un cadre psychologique social qui souligne l'importance de la capacite humaine de langage, d'evaluation et de justification. Si les violations des attentes normatives sont les causes profondes du conflit moraliste, l'article soutient que l'on ne peut determiner l'emergence d'un tel conflit qu'en evaluant la nature du comportement en question par rapport a la situation sociale des participants, en combinaison avec les justifications invoquees. The article applies D. Black's pure sociology paradigm to examine the degree to which scientific evidence supports ideas deduced from the perspective. The main argument suggests that the empirical support for pure sociology varies inversely with the social distance separating scholars in social space. Moreover, the nature of the evidence adduced and the use of qualitative or quantitative methodologies predictably vary with social distance as well, increasing the likelihood of finding confirming or disconfirming evidence. The study tests these ideas by examining the full range of refereed journal articles (n = 191) published from 1976 to 2015 with pure sociology as the main focus. Get article examine les tendances dans les correlats sociaux et economiques de l'utilisation des banques alimentaires dans la region du Grand Toronto au moyen d'entrevues annuelles aupres d'utilisateurs entre 1990 et 2000. L'analyse teste la these selon laquelle les incidences des reductions des allocations d'aide sociale et les couts de logement contribuent a la vulnerabilite economique des families et des menages deja marginalises. L'auteur a eu recours a la statistique descriptive et a la modelisation de regression a plusieurs variables pour evaluer les changements dans les revenus apres couts d'habitation disponibles aupres des utilisateurs de banques alimentaires avant (1990-1995) et apres (1996-2000) les compressions d'aide sociale en Ontario. Les resultats confirment l'importance des reductions des taux des prestations d'aide sociale et les problemes de logement abordable comme etant des facteurs qui contribuent au declin des revenus apres couts d'habitation disponibles aupres de ces utilisateurs. The following paper examines trends in the social and economic correlates of food bank usage in the Greater Toronto Area through annual interviews with food bank users between 1990--2000. The analysis tests the thesis that the effects of social assistance rate reductions and housing costs contributed to the economic vulnerability of these already marginalized families and households. Descriptive statistics and multivariate regression modelling were used to assess changes in post-shelter income available to food bank users prior to (1990--1995) and following Ontario social assistance cuts (1996--2000).
