The article discusses the impact of the Patriot Act of 2001 on library professionals in the U.S., and explores the resistance efforts of librarians to political and economic forces. The Patriot Act was passed on October 2001, with its Section 215 and 205 being directly relevant to libraries, which explicitly abridge the right to privacy of the patron of the library. Section 215 states the expansion of the range of materials that federal agents could legally acquire in a search operation. Librarians resisted the statute by making some local actions that informed patrons the abridgement of their rights.
