The article discusses the need to consider tuberculosis (TB) risk before starting hepatitis C virus (HCV) antiviral therapy in prisons and other correctional facilities. It describes a case of pulmonary TB reactivation during therapy with pegylated interferon-alpha (Peg-IFN) and ribavirin in a male inmate who was affected by genotype 1b/4a chronic hepatitis C. It is recommended that inmates' clinical history be carefully evaluated before administering Peg-IFN and ribavirin therapy.
