This article reports on a study which investigated the plague that infected the Kingdom of Naples in Italy from 1656 to 1658. Researchers examined five skulls that were found in tombs in underground tunnels of Sant' Andrea church. They determined the cause of death by adopting a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) suicide method and searching for Yersinia pestis. They learned that Yersinia pestis infected the whole kingdom during the period.
