A characterization of spatial and temporal variation of macroalgae assemblages in the intertidal rocky shore sector Aguadores-Baconao is presented. As a result of this study 47 species were determined, 33 genera and 16 families. 19 species belong to Rhodophyta, 17 to Heterokontophyta and 11 to Chlorophyta. Species like Amphiroa beauvoisii, Centroceras clavulatum, Ceramiun brasiliense, Yuzurua poiteaui, Ceratodictyon intricatum, Gracilaria damaecornis, Laurencia obtusa, Polysiphonia scopulorum, P. sphaerocarpa, Dictyota ciliolata, Anadyomene saldanhae, Chaetomorpha gracilis y Dictyosphaeria ocellata were first recorded in the southeast platform of Cuba. The higher values of species richness were obtained in March (35). The composition of macroalgae varies among months (55% of dissimilarity) and locations (30 to 100% of dissimilarity). These variations respond to the features of the characteristics of the microhabitat and the presence of point pollution sources for nutrient enrichment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
