In the present paper, recent progress in direct catalytic decomposition of NO is reviewed. In last twenty years many catalysts have been tested (metals, zeolites, different types of oxides). Some of them have been reported as effective for the NO direct decomposition; however, no catalyst exhibits satisfactory activity in the presence of co-existing gases (O-2, CO2, SO2). The catalyst basicity and ability to desorb N-2 and O-2 from its surface plays an important role in the NO direct decomposition. The active sites for the NO decomposition differ depending on the catalyst type and the reaction mechanism. In many cases these mechanisms are still not fully understood. Since the sufficiently active and stable catalyst has not been found yet, further studies should be continued. Web of Science 113 1 47 42
