The author discusses racial stereotyping of college athletes. The Carlisle Indian school was created by cavalry officer Richard Henry Pratt as a way to ensure Indian children received an education. Football coach Glenn Warner was hired to create a school football team to compete against other schools. Journalists often depicted the Indian athletes as savages. The author compares this prejudice to sexual assault charges against lacrosse players at Duke University in 2006. He suggests charges were filed against the players because they were white and perceived as privileged. He comments how Duke University president Richard H. Brodhead refused to support the accused students and how law professor James Coleman exposed the dangers of stereotyping.
