The Energy and Transport programme’s overall objective was to contribute to making the Nordic region a leading region in Europe for developing, demonstrating and using new, sustainable energy technologies for transportation. The main activity of the programme has been to fund Nordic cross-border projects covering sustainable transportation aspects. Calls for projects were released in 2010 (Electric Transportation) and in 2011 (Sustainable Freight Transportation). The programme’s results point to a successful outcome with novel project ideas, new Nordic partnerships and combined research efforts. The Nordic countries are, though having a lot in common, different in many aspects. It is when combining these differences to achieve mutually beneficial results that the Nordic region can really become a leading region of new, innovative technology developments in sustainable transportation.

Outbreaks of infectious animal diseases within the last 10-15 years in areas with intensive livestock production have shown how vulnerable the production systems can be when confronted with an outbreak of a highly infectious disease such as avian influenza, foot and mouth disease or classical swine fever. The veterinary administrations of the Nordic and Baltic countries have established contingency plans; the objectives of the plans include: - to protect animal and human health - to minimize economic loss for the livestock sector and the society as a whole - to minimize damage to the environment. This publication provides information on measures to be considered in contingency planning; the measures take into account: - the pre-epidemic period; disease prevention - the epidemic period; disease eradication - the post-epidemic period; regaining of animal health status.

Sprogpolitik er blevet et hot emne på de nordiske universiteter. Det skyldes først og fremmest at brugen af engelsk har bredt sig til snart sagt alle områder, og at det i sig selv kalder på bevidst og informeret stillingtagen. I denne bog kan man finde materialer til at planlægge, iværksætte, evaluere og ændre et universitets sprogpolitik, særlig hvornår man bør bruge hvilket sprog og hvilke virkninger det kan have. Bogen er skrevet på tre nordiske sprog, dansk, svensk og norsk. Den kan således læses af alle i Norden. Hovedstammen i bogen er de såkaldte landerapporter hvor forholdene i de fem nordiske stater belyses så grundigt som det foreliggende datamateriale tillader det. Alle landerapporter forholder sig til fire fokuspunkter: formulerede sprogpolitikker, sprogvalg i publikationer, sprogvalg i uddannelserne og internationalisering af disse i form af studerende (og ansatte) fra andre lande end de nordiske. Men herudover findes der en generel sprogpolitisk indledning og en gennemgang af hvilke forhold man skal tage hensyn til når man vælger undervisningssprog. Alle bogens elementer kan læses selvstændigt og vil også kunne findes som selvstændige publikationer.

The Nordic welfare model has received a lot of positive attention around the world. High standard of living, small income disparities and substantial social mobility looks like a very attractive package. Moreover, sound public finances and strong emphasis on environmental sustainability suggest that today’s success has not been accomplished at the expense of future generations. But is there really a unique “Nordic Supermodel”, unshaken by the global economic crisis and capable of producing continuous high growth and world class welfare services when many developed economies struggle with the impacts of global competition and population ageing? This book shows that Nordic performance has not been quite as unique or uniform as often claimed. The recent global and European crisis and country specific shocks have affected also the Nordic countries, some of them very strongly. And there are as many variants of the Nordic model as there are Nordic countries. Going forward, also the Nordic countries will be challenged by ageing, globalisation and technological change, some more than the others. On the other hand many fundamentals remain strong in the Nordic countries, and, what is perhaps most important, the Nordics have proved themselves capable of adjusting. Labour market practices, pension policies, and production of public services have been reformed to match new circumstances. Public policies have been aimed at creating new jobs and helping people in transition, not at protecting uncompetitive businesses. There is a strong, rational tradition of consensual policy making. Further reforms are needed, and some widening of income disparities may be inevitable. The message of the book is, however, that refocused and recalibrated in a realistic scale the Nordic model has good chances of thriving well into the future.

This report analyses the exports of goods from the Nordic countries and the exporting enterprises in the period 2008 to 2012. The report addresses issues such as: What are the strongholds of the Nordic countries, both in terms of the type of goods that are exported and in terms of geographical markets? How are the Nordic countries performing on the main emerging markets – are they gaining ground compared to other exporters? How important are the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) compared to the larger enterprises in the export of goods of each of the Nordic countries? And how have SMEs and large enterprises coped with the crisis, both in terms of domestic employment and in terms of export market performance? A new database consisting of business and international trade data linked at enterprise level was constructed in each of the Nordic countries specifically for this analysis. The project was carried out by the five Nordic national statistical institutes in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The project was coordinated by Statistics Denmark.
