The article presents a study which evaluated the State University New York summer undergraduate research program at Buffalo, New York. The study implemented three stages for evaluation methodology such as the pre-early research mid-research and end-to-post research, and it employed Cronbach's alpha. Result shows that the largest adjustments of the mentors in appraisals of the abilities of their students occurred between the pre- and mid-research assessment.

A personal narrative is presented which explores the author's experience in evaluating the Summer Undergraduate Research Program offered by the Buffalo State College in Buffalo, New York.

The article discusses several issues that are missing from the "Bio 2010" report from the view of geoscientists. It is stated that the report focuses mainly on biomedical applications, and it largely overlooks the intersection of biology with the geosciences. It is stated that the report urges departments to re-design their curriculum to prepare students for careers in the biomedical field, but it fails to recognize the link between human health and the geosciences.
