The article reports on the efforts of the Western Australian and South Australian governments in reducing the state's environmental problems through enhanced renewable energy commitments. As part of its long-term climate-change action plan, the Western Australian government aims to get the 20% of its energy needs from solar, wind, and wave power over the next three years and carry out a $25 per tonne carbon tax. On the other hand, the South Australian government has updated its 2004 state strategic plan to include the goals of reducing the state's ecological footprint by 30% by 2050 and to become a leader in renewable energy.
