The purpose of this paper is to extract and optimize the dye fromallium cepa peelusing different solvents like ethanol, methanol, toluene and n-hexane using soxhlet apparatus by varying number of cycles in the extraction process (6, 9,12, 15) to get better yield percentage. Multilevel factorial design is used to optimize the dye extraction parameters. The extracted dye was used in dyeing of cotton fabric and the color strength is measured using Premier color scan spectrophotometer. The results showed that the optimum condition for getting highest color yield is by using ethanol as a solvent up to 15 cycles in the extraction process. Color strength is more even in dye extracted from ethanol and other solvent types were not having significant influence on the yield and dye uptake by the fiber. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Natural dyeing of fabrics is preferred to be more ecofriendly compared with synthetic dyes since no harmful chemicals were involved in the dyeing process. In this study dye was extracted from the tecoma stans flowers by Soxhlet method using water as a solvent media. Multi level factorial design was used to select different combinations. Pretreated cotton fabrics were dyed with the above extract using three different mordants by varying its concentrations as per above design. In this investigation the polyester multifilament fabric have been considered and treated with poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) in alkaline media. The fabric is treated with different concentration of PVA at different temperature and time. The effect of these factors concentration, temperature and time have been analyzed by Box- Behnken experimental design, and optimum parameters were found out. Further it is found that there is significant difference of these factors on to the comfort related properties that are air permeability and wicking. FTIR spectroscopy studies also have been carried to observe the surface modification by confirming the presence of hydrophilic group that is hydroxyl group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
