Introduction: The aim of this study was to review the histologic evidence of reosseointegration and related influencing factors in experimental induced peri-implantitis., Evidence Acquisition: An electronic search was performed on Medline for animal studies that included a histometric evaluation of the amount of regenerated bone in contact with an implant surface. Questions raised in the study focused on the role of implant surfaces, bone regeneration and decontamination treatments in achieving reosseointegration. A detailed electronic search was then conducted on MEDLINE (PubMed) up to July 2017., Evidence Synthesis: One hundred and one articles were selected as abstract, thirty-seven articles assessed as full-text and sixteen finally included in the study. Reported measurements of reosseointegration varied significantly in the study, from 0 to 3.37 mm. There is histological evidence that reosseointegration can occur after treatment of ligature-induced peri-implantitis. However regenerated bone in contact with bone is generally restricted to the most apical portion of the peri-implant defect., Conclusions: Animal studies of induced peri-implantitis seem to indicate that rough surfaces can enhance reosseointegration as compared to smooth surfaces. With regard to bone regeneration techniques and materials, submerged healing and barrier membranes have shown a positive effect on reosseointegration. No evidence exists, however, about the specific role of different bone substitutes and their ability to improve bone formation. Growth factors have been shown to improve reosseointegration in animal models, though additional study is required to confirm the data. Several decontamination treatments have been shown to promote reosseointegration compared to control; however no specific procedure has proven superior to others in achieving reosseointegration.

Background: Our aim was to study the value of sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy in patients with breast cancer seen at a community hospital., Methods: Consecutive cases receiving primary treatment for unicentric breast cancer less than 3 cm in diameter were prospectively studied from January 1999 to July 2000. All patients signed a detailed informed consent. The majority of patients (89%) underwent a combined technique of intradermal injection of 0.3-1.2 mCi of (99)Tc and 1-3 cc of Patent Blue at the biopsy site. Intraoperative localization was performed with a hand-held gamma probe. The first 15 patients underwent routine back-up lymphadenectomy. Thereafter, only patients with positive SLN, suspicious findings, or personal preference underwent formal axillary dissection., Results: One hundred eight cases were included in the study with a median age of 61 years and a median diameter of the breast tumor of 1.5 cm. Success rate for identification of SLN was 94% (101/108 cases). A total of 917 additional lymph nodes were removed after SLN biopsy (median 6.5 lymph nodes/patient). Correlation between SLN and the final axillary status was 98%. In 20/36 patients (61%) with positive axillary status the sentinel lymph node was the only positive one. Ten patients had only microscopic foci of cancer found in the SLN. Sixty-seven patients (62%) could have avoided axillary dissection becouse the SLN was found, it was negative, and there were no other intraoperative suspicious findings., Conclusions: SLN biopsy is accurate and easily reproduced. Our data confirms that the majority of breast cancer patients may no longer need routine axillary lymphadenectomy.

A retrospective study is reported which took place over 3 years (1986-1989) and included 99 patients (57 men and 33 women, age range 8-90 years) with lesions attributable to salivary gland diseases. Patients were examined using CAT and sialographic tests. From an analysis of the results it is clear that sialography retains its importance as a means of diagnosis in inflammatory diseases, calculosis and autoimmune disorders, whereas CAT should be used as the preferential diagnostic test for neoplastic lesions.

The usefulness and indications to treatment with sealants in pedodontics are examined. Sealants are classified and the action mechanism of sealant resins and the application techniques needed for correct positioning of the material are described. The use of the new glass-ionomer cement sealants, with their advantages and disadvantages, are then discussed and the preventive and economic value of occlusive seals evaluated.
