Abstract: The accretion of matter onto the surface of a neutron star in a low-mass X-ray binary triggers X-ray bursts, whose ashes are buried and further processed thus altering the composition and the properties of the stellar crust. In this second paper of a series, the impact of accretion on the equation of state and on the global properties of neutron stars is studied in the framework of the nuclear energy-density functional theory. Considering ashes made of $^{56}$Fe, we calculated the equations of state using the same Brussels-Montreal nuclear energy-density functionals BSk19, BSk20, and BSk21, as those already employed for determining the crustal heating in our previous study for the same ashes. All regions of accreting neutron stars were treated in a unified and thermodynamically consistent way. With these equations of state, we determined the mass, radius, moment of inertia, and tidal deformability of accreted neutron stars and compared with catalyzed neutron stars for which unified equations of state based on the same functionals are available. The equation of state of accreted neutron stars is found to be significantly stiffer than that of catalyzed matter, with an adiabatic index $\Gamma \approx 4/3$ throughout the crust. For this reason, accreting neutron stars have larger radii. However, their crustal moment of inertia and their tidal deformability are hardly changed provided density discontinuities at the interface between adjacent crustal layers are properly taken into account. The enhancement of the stiffness of the equation of state of accreting neutron stars is mainly a consequence of nuclear shell effects, thus confirming the importance of a quantum treatment as stressed in our first study. With our previous calculations of crustal heating using the same functionals, we have thus obtained consistent microscopic inputs for simulations of accreting neutron stars., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures. Abstract: The properties of nuclei with extreme neutron–to–proton ratios reveal the limitations of state-ofthe-art nuclear models and are key to understand nuclear forces. 7H, with six neutrons and a single proton, is the nuclear system with the most unbalanced neutron–to–proton ratio ever known, but its sheer existence and properties are still a challenge for experimental efforts and theoretical models. We report here the first measurement of the basic characteristics and structure of the ground state of 7H; they depict a system with a triton core surrounded by an extended four-neutron halo, built by neutron pairing, that decays through a unique four–neutron emission with a relatively long half-life. These properties are a prime example of new phenomena occurring in almost pure-neutron nuclear matter, beyond the binding limits of the nuclear landscape, that are yet to be described within our current models.

Abstract: International audience; High electronic excitations in radiation of metallic targets with swift heavy ion beams at the coulomb barrier play a dominant role in the damaging processes of some metals. The inelastic thermal spike model was developed to describe tracks in materials and is applied in this paper to some systems beams/targets employed recently in some nuclear physics experiments. Taking into account the experimental conditions and the approved electron-phonon coupling factors, the results of the calculation enable to interpret the observation of the fast deformation of some targets.

Abstract: We present 12C+12C direct fusion measurements with STELLA UKFATIMA, that reach into the region of astrophysics interest relevant to massive stars (M⊙ ≈ 25) using self-supporting thin rotating carbon foils [1]. We demonstrate that detecting gammas and light charged particles in coincidence with nanosecond timing is key for effective background reduction achieving reliable measurements in the sub-nanobarn range. We give details about core developments of the detection apparatus as well as the coincidence-analysis procedure of low count statistics. The present data largely follows the phenomenological hindrance interpolation and shows indication for resonant behaviour at the lowest energy explored.

Abstract: Some observed abundances in globular clusters have suggested the existence of multiple generations of stars within the clusters as the observations require temperature ranges higher than current stars. The 30Si(p,γ)31P reaction plays a key role in the synthesis of the observed abundances. The study of the 30Si(3He,d)31P transfer reaction is a tool for constraining the strengths of low-lying resonances, and the proton partial widths are the main ingredients for calculating those strengths. We present the method used for estimating the proton partial widths and their associated uncertainties.

Abstract: Radiative capture reactions on rare targets and prompt spectroscopy of neutron-rich nuclei produced in the neutron-capture induced-fission of 235U and 241Pu have been performed at the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL). The high efficiency germanium (Ge) EXOGAM array has been used, complemented with Ge detectors from GASP and the ILL. LaBr3 detectors from the FATIMA collaboration have also been coupled to EXOGAM to measure lifetimes of lowlying excited states. The measured characteristics indicate very good performances of the overall setup. Some recent results will be discussed.

Abstract: International audience; Active targets, such as the ACtive TARget and Time Projection Chamber (ACTAR TPC) being developed at GANIL, are detection systems that operate on the basis of a time projection chamber but where the filling gas also serves as a thick target for nuclear reactions. In nuclear physics experiments, the energy resolution is of primary importance to identify the reaction products and to precisely reconstruct level schemes of nuclei. These measurements are based on the energy deposited on a pixelated pad plane. A MICROMEGAS detector is used in ACTAR TPC for the ionization electron collection and amplification, and it is a major contributor to the energy dispersion through, for example, inhomogeneities of the amplification gap. A variation of one percent in the gap can lead to an amplitude variation of more than two percent which is of the same order as the resolution obtained with an energy deposition of 5 MeV. One way to calibrate the pad plane is through the use of a two dimensional source scanning table. It is used to calibrate the gain inhomogeneities and, using MAGBOLTZ calculations, deduce the corresponding gap variations. The inverse of this method would allow the relative gain variations to be calculated for the different gas mixtures and pressures used in experiments with ACTAR TPC.

Abstract: The γ decays of excited states in the very neutron-rich nucleus 88Se have been observed following the cold neutron-induced fission of 235U at the PF1B facility of the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), Grenoble. The EXILL array was used to measure γ - γ - γ coincidences, which were then analysed to build a level scheme of 88Se. A low (2+1) energy hints at the onset of quadrupole deformation and the identification of possible members of a (2+2) band provide evidence for γ vibrations. Shell-model calculations using a 78Ni core reproduce the experimental decay scheme well, implying that interactions between particles in the π f5/2 p and vsd orbits are responsible for much of the collectivity present. The algebraic collective model has also been used to interpret the experimental data, showing that that the experimental spectrum is consistent with 88Se being a transitional nucleus, possessing weak static β deformation and γ instability.

Abstract: International audience; In the framework of design studies for SPIRAL2, the simulation of the neutron flux generated by 40 MeV deuterons on a thick 12C target was performed and compared to experimental data. The calculation of the dose rate of these neutrons allowed to compare four materials being considered for radioprotection shielding: barites, gypsum, ordinary concrete and heavy concrete. The simulated map of the neutron dose rate in the production building shows a very high dose rate around the neutron source and in the environment of some of the accelerator equipment.

Abstract: International audience; Double differential (angular and energy) neutron distributions were measured using an activation foil technique. Reactions were induced by impinging two low-energy heavy-ion beams accelerated with the GANIL CSS1 cyclotron: (36S (12 MeV/u) and 208Pb (6.25 MeV/u)) onto thick natCu targets. Results have been compared to Monte-Carlo calculations from two codes (PHITS and FLUKA) for the purpose of benchmarking radiation protection and shielding requirements. This comparison suggests a disagreement between calculations and experiment, particularly for high-energy neutrons.

Abstract: International audience; 237Np absolute delayed neutron yields have been measured at different incident neutron energiesfrom 1.5 to 16MeV. The experiment was performed at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)facility where the Van de Graaff accelerator and the cyclotron CV28 delivered 9 different neutron energybeams using p+T, d+D and d+T reactions. The detection system is made up of twelve 3He tubes insertedinto a polyethylene cylinder. In this paper, the experimental setup and the data analysis method are described.The evolution of the absolute DN yields as a function of the neutron incident beam energies are presented andcompared to experimental data found in the literature and data from the libraries.

Abstract: This is an open access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons AttributionLicense 4.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).; International audience; Several facilities or apparatus for the synthesis and spectroscopy of the Super-Heavy Nuclei (SHN) are presently under construction in the world, which reflect the large interest for this region of extreme mass and charge, but also for the need of even more advanced research infrastructures. Among this new generation, the GANIL/SPIRAL2 facility in Caen, France, will soon deliver very high intense ion beams of several tens of particle $\mu$A. The Super Separator Spectrometer S$^3$ has been designed to exploit these new beams for the study of SHN after separation. It will provide the needed beam rejection, mass selection and full arsenal of state-of-the art detection setups. Still at GANIL, the AGATA new generation gamma-ray tracking array is being operated. The VAMOS high acceptance spectrometer is being upgraded as a gas-filled separator. Its coupling with AGATA will lower the spectroscopic limits for the prompt gamma-ray studies of heavy and super-heavy nuclei. In this proceeding, these new devices will be presented along with a selected physics case.

Abstract: International audience; This contribution is focused on the STELLA project (STELlar LAboratory), which aims at the measurement of fusion cross sections between light heavy ions like 12C+12C, 12C+16O or 16O+16O at deep subbarrier energies. The gamma-particle coincidence technique is used in order to reduce background contributions that become dominant for measurements in the nanobarn regime.The experimental setup composed of an ultra high vacuum reaction chamber, a set of 3 silicon strip detectors, up to 36 LaBr3(Ce) scintillators from the UK FATIMA collaboration, and a fast rotating target system will be described. The 12C+12C fusion reaction has been studied from Elab = 11 to 5.6 MeV using STELLA at the Andromède facility in Orsay, France. Preliminary commissioning results are presented in this article.

Abstract: The first high-statistics and high-resolution data set for the integrated recoil-ion energy spectrum following the β+ decay of 35Ar has been collected with the WITCH retardation spectrometer located at CERN-ISOLDE. Over 25 million recoil-ion events were recorded on a large-area micro-channel plate (MCP) detector with a time-stamp precision of 2 ns and position resolution of 0.1mm due to the newly upgraded data acquisition based on the LPC Caen FASTER protocol. The number of recoil ions was measured for more than 15 different settings of the retardation potential, complemented by dedicated background and half-life measurements. Previously unidentified systematic effects, including an energy-dependent efficiency of the main MCP and a radiation-induced time-dependent background, have been identified and incorporated into the analysis. However, further understanding and treatment of the radiation-induced background requires additional dedicated measurements and remains the current limiting factor in extracting a beta-neutrino angular correlation coefficient for 35Ar decay using the WITCH spectrometer. ispartof: European Physical Journal A, Hadrons and Nuclei vol:52 issue:7 pages:1-16 status: published

Abstract: International audience; The elliptic-flow ratio of neutrons with respect to protons or light complex particles in reactions of heavy ions at pre-relativistic energies has been proposed as an observable sensitive to the strength of the symmetry term of the nuclear equation of state at supra-saturation densities. In the ASY-EOS experiment at the GSI laboratory, flows of neutrons and light charged particles were measured for ^197Au+^197Au collisions at 400 MeV/nucleon. Flow results obtained for the Au+Au system, in comparison with predictions of the UrQMD transport model, confirm the moderately soft to linear density dependence of the symmetry energy deduced from the earlier FOPI-LAND data.

Correlations and invariant mass spectroscopy are used to explore simultaneous and sequential decays of resonances in light isotopes with Z∼3-6, produced in peripheral collisions via the break-up of excited quasi-projectiles. Among them we mention 5Li, 6Li, 6Be, 8Be and the astrophysically important state in 12C decaying into three alpha particles. Results and future perspectives at the INFN-LNS will be presented.

Abstract: This is an Open Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License 4.0, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.; International audience; The spectroscopic structure of 19C, a prominent one-neutron halo nucleus, has been studied with a 20C secondary beam at 290 MeV/nucleon and a carbon target. Neutron-unbound states populated by the one-neutron knockout reaction were investigated by means of the invariant mass method. The preliminary relative energy spectrum and parallel momentum distribution of the knockout residue, 19C*, were reconstructed from the measured four momenta of the 18C fragment, neutron, and beam. Three resonances were observed in the spectrum, which correspond to the states at Ex = 0.62(9), 1.42(10), and 2.89(10) MeV. The parallel momentum distributions for the 0.62-MeV and 2.89-MeV states suggest spin-parity assignments of 5/2+ and 1/2−, respectively. The 1.42-MeV state is in line with the reported 5/22+ state.

Abstract: The study of nuclear ssion is encountering renewed interest with the development of GEN-IV reactor concepts, mostly working in the neutron fast energy domain. To support the fast reactor technologies, new high quality nuclear data are needed. For this reason, the future Neutrons For Sciences (NFS) installation, built in the framework of the SPIRAL2 project and producing high intensity neutron beams from hundreds of keV up to 40 MeV, will open new opportunities to characterise the actinide ssion fragments. To perform these measurements, the development of an experimental setup called FAL- STAFF has been undertaken. This novel apparatus is meant to provide a simultaneous characterisation of the complementary fragments in terms of mass, kinetic energy and to evaluate the average neutron multiplicity. To reach this goal the spectrometer must present a very good time, energy and space resolutions. The coupling of the Secondary Electron Detectors (SeD) detectors with an ionisation axial chamber seems ful ll these conditions. The ssion fragment velocities are measured employing two time-of- ight (SeD), sepa- rated by a distance of 50 cm. Those detectors combine a Mylar foil and a MWPC (multi wire proportional counter) to measure the arrival time and the position of the incoming particle. The fragment energies are measured by an axial ionisation chamber, CALIBER, placed after the SeD Stop detector. Moreover, the axial con guration of the chamber gives access to the energy loss pro le, which could be used to identify the light fragment nuclear charge. The FALSTAFF setup and the upgrade of the rst arm prototype with the new ionisa- tion chamber CALIBER will be presented. New tests are performed at CEA-Saclay and the combined measurement obtained from the SeD and the ionisation chamber will be shown. The performances of the experimental apparatus in terms of energy and mass resolution will be discussed.

Abstract: Nuclei around doubly-closed shells play a crucial role in studying both a) the couplings between valence nucleons which provide information on the effective nucleon-nucleon interaction and, b) couplings of the valence nucleons with core excitations, which may be used as a unique test of various effective interactions used in mean-field based models, like Skyrme, Gogny etc. From a broader perspective, understanding the coupling of a single particle to vibrational motion in nuclei is of primary importance, as this coupling is responsible for the quenching of spectroscopic factors [1]; it is also the key process at the origin of the damping of giant resonances [2]. The vibrational phonons are best known from the spectroscopic studies of doubly-magic nuclei in which they appear, in general, as the lowest excited states. For example, in 208Pb, the lowest excitation (at 2615 keV) is the 3– octupole vibration with a large E3 transition strength of 34 W.u. We investigated the low-spin structures of 210Bi and 206Tl up to their neutroncapture states at 4.6 and 6.5 MeV, respectively, by using 209Bi(n,)210Bi and 205Tl(n,)206Tl reactions induced by cold neutrons at ILL Grenoble. The 210Bi nucleus (one proton and one neutron above the 208Pb core) was populated in the experiment performed at the PF1B and cold-neutron facility in which - coincidences were measured with the EXILL array consisting of 16 Ge detectors. It is the first time when such large array was employed for 209Bi(n,)210Bi reactions studies so the decay scheme could be revised and significantly extended. The analysis of the angular correlations of  rays provided information about transitions multipolarities and helped with the spin-parity assignments. The structure arising from the excitations of valence proton and neutron was compared to the shell-model calculations. Some of the observed states must come from the coupling of the valence particles excitations with the first excited state in 208Pb, that is 3– octupole vibration. The 206Tl nucleus was populated in the first (commissioning) experiment of FIPPS facility at ILL Grenoble. The  rays from the capture state at 6.5 MeV were measured by the array of 8 Ge clovers. We want to present the preliminary results of the -coincidence analysis which will allow to significantly extend the experimental information on the energy levels in 206Tl. The 206Tl nucleus, having just one proton-hole and one neutron-hole with respect to the best known doubly magic core 208Pb, is an ideal system for testing old and developing new shell model interactions in the south-west quadrant of the nuclear chart with respect to 208Pb.

Abstract: This is an Open Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Licence 4.0; International audience; The complementary (γ, γ′) and (α, α′γ) reactions were used to study the isospin properties of low-lying E1 excitations in the doubly-magic nucleus 48Ca. In contrast to heavier nuclei, a state-to-state change in isospin character was revealed in 48Ca and a dominant isoscalar excitation was found which is interpreted as an isoscalar oscillation. Recently, protons at 80 MeV were used as an additional hadronic probe in a p-γ coincidence experiment on 140Ce for the first time. Results of the experiments on 48Ca and first results of the 140Ce will be presented in this contribution.

Abstract: In the present contribution, the effect of pairing on nuclear transfer and fusion reactions close to the Coulomb barrier is discussed. A Time-Dependent Hartree-Fock + BCS (TDHF+BCS) microscopic theory has been developed to incorporate pairing. One- and two-particle transfer probabilities can be obtained showing the importance of pairing. The calculated transfer probabilities are compared to the recent experimental results obtained for the $^{96}$Zr+$^{40}$Ca. Reactions involving the $^{18}$O with lead isotopes are also presented, that are also of current experimental interest. Finally, a study of the fusion barrier height predicted with the TDHF+BCS theory is compared to the experimental values for the $^{40,44,48}$Ca+$^{40}$Ca reactions., Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures, proceeding of the IV international conference FUSION14

Abstract: In an experiment at the LISE3 facility of GANIL, we have studied with high precision the $0^{+}\rightarrow 0^{+}$ $ \beta$ decay of 38Ca. The LISE3 facility allowed to produce close to pure samples of the nuclide of interest. We measured the half-life of this nucleus to be 443.63(35)ms, whereas the super-allowed branching ratio was determined to be 77.14(35)%. Both data are in nice agreement with previous high-precision measurements and thus improve the overall precision of the experimental inputs to determine the corrected $F t$ value for this nucleus. We also compare the experimental Gamow-Teller strength distribution with theoretical shell-model predictions. Finally, future opportunities at LISE3 are discussed.

Abstract: The stable nucleus 15N is the mirror of the astrophysically important 15O, the product of the slowest reaction in the hydrogen burning CNO cycle, which therefore determine the production rate of the cycle. Most of the 15N level widths below the nucleon emission thresholds are known from just one nuclear resonance fluorescence (NRF) measurement published more than 30 years ago, with limited precision in some cases [1]. A recent experiment with the AGATA demonstrator array aimed to determine level widths using the Doppler Shift Attenuation Method (DSAM) in 15O and 15N populated in the 14N + 2H reaction. In order to set a benchmark value for the upcoming AGATA demonstrator data, the widths of several 15N levels have been studied with high precision using the bremsstrahlung facility gELBE [2] at the electron accelerator of Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR). The precision of our new dataset are on a 10% level for the weak transitions, which have 60% and 100% error bars in the old dataset. Abstract: International audience; We analyze the quadrupole-octupole collective states based on the microscopic energy density functionalframework. By mapping the deformation constrained self-consistent axially symmetric mean-field energysurfaces onto the equivalent Hamiltonian of the sd f interacting boson model (IBM), that is, onto the energyexpectation value in the boson coherent state, the Hamiltonian parameters are determined. The resulting IBMHamiltonian is used to calculate excitation spectra and transition rates for the positive- and negative-parity collectivestates in large sets of nuclei characteristic for octupole deformation and collectivity. Consistently withthe empirical trend, the microscopic calculation based on the systematics of β2 − β3 energy maps, the resultinglow-lying negative-parity bands and transition rates show evidence of a shape transition between stable octupoledeformation and octupole vibrations characteristic for β3-soft potentials.

Abstract: International audience; The elliptic-flow ratio of neutrons with respect to protons or lightcomplex particles in reactions of heavy ions at pre-relativistic energieshas been proposed as an observable sensitive to the strength of thesymmetry term of the nuclear equation of state at supra-saturationdensities. In the ASY-EOS experiment at the GSI laboratory, flows ofneutrons and light charged particles were measured for 197Au+197Au,96Zr+96Zr and 96Ru+96Ru collisions at 400 MeV/nucleon with theLarge Area Neutron Detector LAND as part of a setup with severaladditional detection systems used for the event characterization. Flowresults obtained for the Au+Au system, in comparison with predictionsof the UrQMD transport model, confirm the moderately soft to lineardensity dependence of the symmetry energy deduced from the earlierFOPI-LAND data.

Abstract: International audience; The experimental setup STELLA (STELlar LAboratory) is designed for the measurement of deep sub-barrier light heavy ion fusion cross sections. For background suppression the γ-particle coincidence technique is used. In this project, LaBr3 detectors from the UK FATIMA (FAst TIMing Array) collaboration are combined with annular silicon strip detectors customized at IPHC-CNRS, Strasbourg, and the setup is located at Andromède, IPN, Orsay. The commissioning of the experimental approach as well as a sub-barrier 12C +12C → 24Mg∗ cross section measurement campaign are carried out.

Abstract: International audience; Multineutron and multiproton transfer channels, populated in the inverse kinematics reaction 197Au+130Te at Elab=1.07 GeV, were measured at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro using the presently heaviest ion beam delivered by the PIAVE-ALPI accelerator complex and detecting both projectile-like and targetlike ions. To this end the large solid angle magnetic spectrometer PRISMA was coupled to a second arm for the detection of the heavy fragments in kinematic coincidence with the light ones selected and identified with the spectrometer. The data analysis is still in progress and will allow to compare the yields of both light and heavy partner with theoretical predictions performed with the GRAZING code to get quantitative information on transfer channels and the effect of evaporation and fission on the production rate of primary fragments. The mass integrated Z distribution, extracted from the experimental data, evidenced the population of proton pickup channels that, in conjunction with the neutron stripping ones from the 130Te, open the path for the production of neutron-rich heavy nuclei. In the following, we will present some preliminary results as well as details on the experimental configuration and perspectives for future investigations in the neutron-rich heavy region.

Abstract: International audience; The study of nuclear fission and in particular the correlation between the produced fragments and the associated neutrons is encountering renewed interest since new models are available on the market and a large set of applications show a rather stringent demand on high quality nuclear data. The future Neutrons For Science installation, being presently built at GANIL (Caen, France) in the framework of the SPIRAL2 project, will produce high intensity neutron beams from hundreds of keV up to 40 MeV. In view of this opportunity, the development of an experimental setup called FALSTAFF (Four Arm cLover for the Study of Actinide Fission Fragments) has been undertaken since 2011. This novel apparatus is meant to provide a full characterization of fission fragments in terms of mass, nuclear charge and kinetic energy. Moreover, it will provide a measurement of the mass before and after neutron evaporation, leading to the determination of the neutron multiplicity as a function of the fragmentation. The FALSTAFF setup is presently in its R&D phase in order to achieve the required specifications, especially in terms of time, space and energy resolution of the different detectors.

Abstract: During the last 30 years, and more specifically during the last 10 years, many experiments have been carried out worldwide using different techniques to study the shell evolution of nuclei far from stability. What seemed not conceivable some decades ago became rather common: all known magic numbers that are present in the valley of stability disappear far from stability and are replaced by new ones at the drip line. By gathering selected experimental results, beautifully consistent pictures emerge, that very likely take root in the properties of the nuclear forces.The present manuscript describes some of these discoveries and proposes an intuitive understanding of these shell evolutions derived from observations. Extrapolations to yet unstudied regions, as where the explosive r-process nucleosynthesis occurs, are proposed. Abstract: International audience; One of the methods for calculating nuclear properties from first principles is the No-Core Shell Model (NCSM) [1]. Even though this method was applied with much success in the description of wellbound states, some problems arose when it was used for calculating properties of nuclei with a large radial extent ("halo" nuclei) or in the description of unbound states. The basic source of the problem was that a very large number of HO states are required to capture the physics of weakly bound "halo" nuclei, due to the Gaussian asymptotic behavior of the HO wavefunction. This does not mean that using HO states is wrong, but that they do not provide the correct scheme to calculate weakly-bound and unbound systems. This usually leads to non-converged results and the extrapolations to "infinite" basis were not very successful, until recently [2, 3]. Additionally, it was soon realized that the coupling to the continuum can also have an appreciable e ect on the properties of states close to threshold. This leads to a modification of many-body methods in order to include the continuum coupling in their frameworks [4-8]. In this work, our method of choice is the No-Core Gamow Shell Model, where the continuum is taken into account via the diagonalization of the many-body Hamiltonian in the Berggren basis [9].

Abstract: International audience; The fission dynamics described by solving differential equations of the Langevin type in three dimensional space of the deformation parameters is very sensitive on the choice of the macroscopic components such as potential energy models. The mass or charge distribution or total kinetic energy has been already shown to be different when one uses the Finite Range Liquid Drop Model or Lublin - Strasbourg Drop model. Also the shape-dependent congruence or shape-dependentWigner energy and A0 terms are important especially for the fission of medium mass nuclei. We would like to make step forward and answer the question about the varying of the post-scission multiplicity by including different PES. Up to now there are only few experimental data for the medium mass nuclei where the pre- and post- scission emission has been estimated and isotopic distributions have been shown. The isotopic distributions of the fission products for light compound nucleus such as 111 In with two beam energies (Ebeam = 10.6AMeV and 5.9 AMeV) and two heavy systems: 229Np with Ebeam = 7.4AMeV and 260 No (Ebeam = 6AMeV and 7.5 AMeV) have been studied theoretically. The agreement with the experimental data is discussed.

Abstract: In Xe+Sn central collisions from 12 to 20 MeV/A measured with the INDRA 4$\pi$ multidetector, the three-fragment exit channel occurs with a significant cross section. In this contribution, we show that these fragments arise from two successive binary splittings of a heavy composite system. Strong Coulomb proximity effects are observed in the three-fragment final state. Abstract: International audience; A canonical description of the thermodynamical pairing properties of small systems is achieved by using the Variation After Projection approach at finite temperature. The minimization of the free energy is made by a direct evaluation of the energy and full diagonalization of the entropy. We use the Richardson - pairing model whose exact solution allows to study the reliability of different approaches. We show that the Projection After Variation approach, that is usually performed at zero temperature with rather good success, provides a quite poor description at finite temperature. On the contrary, the Variation After Projection applied at finite temperature provides a perfect reproduction of the exact canonical properties of odd or even systems from very low to high temperature.

Abstract: The complete kinematic measurement of the two fission fragments permitted us to investigate dissipative effects at large deformations, between the saddle-point and the corresponding scission configurations. Up to now, this kind of study has only been performed with fusionfission reactions using a limited number of observables, such as the mass distribution of the fission fragments or the neutron multiplicities. However, the large angular momenta gained by the compound nucleus could affect the conclusions drawn from such experiments. In this work, the use of spallation reactions, where the fissioning systems are produced with low angular momentum, small deformations and high excitation energies, favors the study of dissipation, and allowed us to define new observables, such as postscission neutron multiplicities and the neutron excess of the final fission fragments as a function of the atomic number of the fissioning system. These new observables are used to investigate the dissipation at large deformations.

Abstract: International audience; The present status and the perspectives of the FAZIA project are presented. The main achievements in terms of identification thresholds and isotopic resolution are discussed, together with the adopted technical solutions. The detector is particularly well suited for the investigation of isospin transport phenomena at intermediate beam energies; perspectives to reduce the identification thresholds to cope with lower energy ISOL beams are briefly introduced. Some experimental results concerning isospin transport effects obtained with a test telescope are presented. The study of isospin transport phenomena can give information on the symmetry energy term of the nuclear equation of state by comparing the experimental results on isospin related observables with the predictions of transport codes.

Abstract: The fission process still remains a main factor that determines the stability of the atomic nucleus of heaviest elements. Fission half-lives vary over a wide range, 10^−19 to 10^24 s. Present experimental techniques for the synthesis of the superheavy elements that usually measure α-decay chains are sensitive only in a limited range of half-lives, often 10^5 to 10^3 s. In the past years, measurement techniques for very short-lived and very long-lived nuclei were significantly improved at the gas-filled recoil separator TASCA at GSI Darmstadt. Recently, several experimental studies of fission-related phenomena have successfully been performed. In this paper, results on 254−256Rf and 266Lr are presented and corresponding factors for retarding the fission process are discussed. (Less)

Abstract: Expérience GANIL/VAMOS/EXOGAM; International audience; Experimental access to full isotopic fragment distributions is very important to determine the features of the fission process. However, the isotopic identification of fission fragments has been, in the past, partial and scarce. A solution based on the use of inverse kinematics to study transfer-induced fission of exotic actinides was carried out at GANIL, resulting in the first experiment accessing the full identification of a collection of fissioning systems and their corresponding fission fragment distribution. In these experiments , a 238 U beam at 6.14 AMeV impinged on a carbon target to produce fissioning systems from U to Am by transfer reactions, and Cf by fusion reactions. Isotopic fission yields of 250 Cf, 244 Cm, 240 Pu, 239 Np and 238 U are presented in this work. With this information, the average number of neutrons as a function of the atomic number of the fragments is calculated, which reflects the impact of nuclear structure around Z=50, N=80 on the production of fission fragments. The characteristics of the Super Long, Standard I, Standard II, and Standard III fission channels were extracted from fits of the fragment yields for different ranges of excitation energy. The position and contribution of the fission channels as function of excitation energy are presented.

Abstract: The elliptic-flow ratio of neutrons with respect to protons in reactions of neutron rich Heavy-Ion at intermediate energies has been recently proposed as an observable sensitive to the strength of the symmetry term in the nuclear equation of state (EOS) at supra-saturation densities. The recent results obtained from the existing FOPI/LAND data for 197Au+197Au collisions at 400 MeV/nucleon in comparison with the UrQMD model allowed a first estimate of the symmetry term of the EOS but suffer from a considerable statistical uncertainty. In order to obtain an improved data set for Au+Au collisions and to extend the study to other systems, a new experiment was carried out at the GSI laboratory by the ASY-EOS collaboration in May 2011. © Owned by the authors, 2012.

Abstract: Expérience GANIL/LISE3; The two-proton radioactivity of 45Fe was studied experimentally with a time projection chamber. The aim of the experiment was the reconstruction of the proton tracks in three dimensions. Energy and angular correlations have been determined and the data are compared with theoretical models, in particular with a three-body model. Moreover, the decay of 43Cr was studied and β-delayed one-, two- and threeproton emission could be established. The correlations observed for β-delayed two-proton emission favour a sequential emission. Finally, β-delayed two-proton emission was observed for the first time for 51Ni.

Abstract: Expérience GANIL/VAMOS-LISE; International audience; Two fission experiments have been performed at GANIL using 238U beams at different energies and light targets. Different fissioning systems were produced with excitation energies from 10 to 230 MeV and their decay by fission was investigated with GANIL spectrometers. Preliminary fission-fragment isotopic distributions have been obtained. The evolution with impinging energy of their properties, the neutron excess and the width of the neutron-number distributions, gives important insights into the dynamics of fusion-fission mechanism.

Abstract: Decay modes of excited nuclei are studied in 78,82 Kr + 40 Ca reactions at 5.5 MeV/nucleon by means of light-charged particles measured in coincidence with intermediate mass fragments and fission-like fragments. Inclusive cross-section distributions of fragments with charge 3 ≤ Z ≤ 28 are bell-shaped and a strong oddeven-staggering (o-e-s) is observed for 3 ≤ Z ≤ 12. Coincidence measurements suggest that the light partners in very asymmetric ﬁssion are emitted at excitation energies below the particle emission thresholds. Data were confronted to the predictions of statistical models describing the decay of compound nuclei by emission of light particles and fragments. Comparison with models suggests that the o-e-s of the light-fragment yields is mainly due to the successive steps of compound nucleus disintegration.

Abstract: International audience; Among the different theoretical approaches able to describe fission, microscopic ones can help us in the understanding of this process, as they have the advantage of describing the nuclear structure and the dynamics in a consistent manner. The sole input of the calculations is the nucleon-nucleon interaction. Such a microscopic time-dependent and quantum mechanical formalism has already been used, based on the Gaussian Overlap Approximation of the Generator Coordinate Method with the adiabatic approximation, to analyze the collective dynamics of low-energy fission in 238U [1]. However, at higher energies, a few MeV above the barrier, the adiabatic approximation doesn't seem valid anymore. Indeed, manifestations of proton pair breaking have been observed in 238U and 239U for an excitation energy of 2.3 MeV above the barrier [2–4]. Taking the intrinsic excitations into account during the fission process will enable us to determine the coupling between collective and intrinsic degrees of freedom, in particular from saddle to scission. Guidelines of the new formalism under development are presented and some preliminary results on overlaps between non excited and excited states are discussed.

Abstract: International audience; Ar+Ni reactions have been studied to fix some constraints on the isospin dependence of the level density. The coupling of INDRA and VAMOS apparatuses allows to obtain highly exclusive data . The preliminary results on the Ar+Ni fusion-evaporation cross sections suggest a dependence on the entrance channel mass asymmetry.

Abstract: This is an Open Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Common Attribution Licence 4.0 which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.; International audience; A novel method for direct electronic "fast-timing" lifetime measurements of nuclear excited statesvia γ-γ coincidences using an array equipped with N very fast high-resolution LaBr3(Ce) scintillator detectorsis presented. The generalized centroid difference method provides two independent “start” and “stop” timespectra obtained without any correction by a superposition of the N(N − 1)/2 calibrated γ-γ time differencespectra of the N detector fast-timing system. The two fast-timing array time spectra correspond to a forwardand reverse gating of a specific γ-γ cascade and the centroid difference as the time shift between the centroidsof the two time spectra provides a picosecond-sensitive mirror-symmetric observable of the set-up. The energydependentmean prompt response difference between the start and stop events is calibrated and used as a singlecorrection for lifetime determination. These combined fast-timing array mean γ-γ zero-time responses can bedetermined for 40 keV < Eγ < 1.4 MeV with a precision better than 10 ps using a 152Eu γ-ray source. Thenew method is described with examples of (n,γ) and (n,f,γ) experiments performed at the intense cold-neutronbeam facility PF1B of the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, France, using 16 LaBr3(Ce) detectors withinthe EXILL&FATIMA campaign in 2013. The results are discussed with respect to possible systematic errorsinduced by background contributions.
