Since 2013, the radionuclide 223Ra is used in nuclear medicine to prepare radiopharmaceuticals for targeted radiotherapy. 223Ra is a member of the natural radioactive series of actinium and decays by alpha-particle emission, populating the excited levels of 219Rn. According to the 2011 nuclear decay data evaluation within the Decay Data Evaluation Project (DDEP), by V.P. Chechev, the half-life of 223Ra is (11.43 ± 0.03) days. The decay scheme is not considered as fully complete, because of the disagreement between the measured and calculated probabilities of some alpha-transitions and incomplete information on several gamma-ray transitions. New high quality measurements of 223Ra nuclear decay data were performed and numerous results were published since 2012 and, consequently, an updated nuclear decay data evaluation was undertaken, according to the DDEP procedures. The main results obtained, focusing on the recommended data improvements, are presented and discussed in this paper.

An IAEA coordinated research project was launched in December 2012 to establish and improve the nuclear data required to characterise charged-particle monitor reactions and extend data for medical radionuclide production. An international team was assembled to undertake work addressing the requirements for more accurate cross-section data over a wide range of targets and projectiles, undertaken in conjunction with a limited number of measurements and more extensive evaluations of the decay data of specific radionuclides. These studies are nearing completion, and are briefly described below.

Data measurements undertaken by various laboratories are evaluated by an international commission of experts (Decay Data Evaluation Project) coordinated by LNHB staff in order to establish a set of recommended decay scheme data. New nuclide evaluations are regularly added to our website, the Nucléide database, published in the BIPM-5 Monographie series and uploaded to our web application Laraweb, a dedicated tool for alpha and gamma spectrometry. The Mini Table of Radionuclides is produced from time-to-time with data extracted from our database. Various publications are described, along with new search criteria and decay scheme visualisation in Laraweb.

A Co-ordinated Research Project (CRP) entitled "Updated Decay Data Library for Actinides" was initiated in 2005 by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), with the primary aim of improving the quality of recommended decay data for actinides and their decay chains. Participants have attended two Research Coordination Meetings, and agreed on a list of important nuclides and evaluation methodologies to be adopted in work programmes dedicated to the preparation of a new database. Specific measurements were also proposed to address discrepancies between existing data, and some of these experimental studies are described in detail within this paper.
