Research background: The global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic is for human society unprecedented. Coronavirus is dramatically changing people's lives, and despite of uncertainty about the future, it is certain that its global consequences will have many dimensions. The significant economic impacts are unquestionable today. The Czech economy, like the rest of the world, is facing an unexpected exogenous shock. This manifests itself with varying intensity both at the level of sub-markets and on the side of aggregate supply and demand. It is literally a textbook example, explaining the outbreak of the downturn phase of the business cycle. Nevertheless, the sudden slowdown of economic activity as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, quarantine and the state of emergency, has many specificities across countries. Purpose of the article: The primary goal of this article is to analyze the economic consequences of the pandemic crisis in the reality of the Czech Republic. On this basis, it identifies the specifics of a pandemic crisis, in the context of a broader framework of economic theories of business cycles. Methods: The analytical part of the article is processed on the basis of publicly available statistical data and economic forecasts. The derivation and argumentation of the conclusions is based on an empiric-inductive approach, methods of synthesis and comparison. Findings & Value added: The article maps the direct and mediated economic contexts of the economic cycle caused by the coronavirus pandemic in the reality of the Czech Republic. It identifies the differences and specifics of the downward phase of the pandemic economic cycle and derives their possible long-term impacts. At the theoretical level, the ambition of the article is to bring new knowledge to the contemporary economic theory of business cycles., Koronavirus dramaticky mění životy lidí a navzdory panující nejistotě ohledně budoucnosti je jisté, že jeho globální důsledky budou mít mnoho dimenzí. Výrazné ekonomické dopady jsou nezpochybnitelné již dnes. Česká ekonomika, stejně jako zbytek světa, čelí nečekanému exogennímu šoku. Ten se s různou intenzitou projevuje jak na úrovni dílčích trhů, tak straně agregátní nabídky a poptávky. Představuje tak doslova učebnicový příklad, vysvětlující propuknutí sestupné fáze hospodářského cyklu. Přesto však náhlý útlum ekonomické aktivity, jako důsledek koronavirové pandemie, karantény a nouzového stavu vykazuje napříč státy mnohá specifika. Primárním cílem tohoto článku je analýza ekonomických konsekvencí pandemické krize v realitě České republiky. Na tomto základě pak identifikuje specifika pandemické krize, a to v kontextu širšího rámce ekonomických teorií hospodářských cyklů. Analytická část článku je zpracována na základě veřejně dostupných statistických dat a ekonomických prognóz. Vyvozování a argumentace závěrů se opírá o empiricko induktivní přístup, metody syntézy a komparace. Článek mapuje přímé a zprostředkované ekonomické souvislosti hospodářského cyklu vyvolaného koronavirovou pandemií v realitě České republiky. Identifikuje odlišnosti a specifika sestupné fáze pandemického hospodářského cyklu a odvozuje jejich možné dlouhodobé dopady. V teoretické rovině je ambicí článku přinést nové poznatky k soudobé ekonomické teorii hospodářských cyklů.

Research background: The global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic is unprecedented for human society. Despite the continuing uncertainty about the future, it is certain that the global consequences of the pandemic will have many dimensions. Among others, the economic impacts are extremely significant. However, the sudden slowdown in economic activity, the declared quarantines, and the state of emergency have many specific impacts in individual countries. The Czech economy (as well as other countries in the world) was exposed to an unexpected exogenous shock. The data confirm that, in 2020, the decline in the performance of the Czech economy was the deepest in its history. Purpose of the article: The primary goal of this article is to analyze the macroeconomic performance of the Czech Republic during a pandemic crisis. However, we also research the impact of the pandemic on individual sectors of the national economy in the context of government measures. Methods: The analytical part of the article is processed on the basis of publicly available statistical data, economic analyses, and economic forecasts of renowned institutions. The derivation and argumentation of the conclusions are based on an empiric-inductive approach, methods of synthesis, and comparison. Findings and value added: The article maps the direct and mediated macroeconomic effects of the pandemic crisis in the reality of the Czech Republic. At the theoretical level, the aim of the article is to bring new knowledge to current economic theory, especially in the field of macroeconomics and sectoral analysis as well as the theory of public choice., Výzkumné zázemí: Celosvětová pandemie SARS-CoV-2 nemá v lidské společnosti obdoby. Navzdory přetrvávající nejistotě ohledně budoucnosti je jisté, že globální důsledky pandemie budou mít mnoho rozměrů. Mimo jiné jsou mimořádně významné ekonomické dopady. Náhlé zpomalení ekonomické aktivity, vyhlášené karantény a výjimečný stav však mají mnoho specifických dopadů v jednotlivých zemích. Česká ekonomika (stejně jako ostatní země světa) byla vystavena nečekanému exogennímu šoku. Údaje potvrzují, že v roce 2020 byl pokles výkonnosti české ekonomiky nejhlubší v její historii. Cíl článku: Zjistit, jak se vyvíjela ekonomická situace v České republice, a jak se vyvíjela ekonomická situace v České republice: Primárním cílem tohoto článku je analyzovat makroekonomickou výkonnost České republiky během pandemické krize. Zkoumáme však také dopady pandemie na jednotlivá odvětví národního hospodářství v kontextu vládních opatření. Metody: V rámci výzkumu se zabýváme otázkou, zda je možné v souvislosti s pandemií v České republice využít tzv: Analytická část článku je zpracována na základě veřejně dostupných statistických dat, ekonomických analýz a ekonomických prognóz renomovaných institucí. Odvození a argumentace závěrů je založena na empiricko-induktivním přístupu, metodách syntézy a komparace. Závěry a přidaná hodnota: Článek mapuje přímé a zprostředkované makroekonomické dopady pandemické krize v realitě České republiky. V teoretické rovině je cílem článku přinést nové poznatky do současné ekonomické teorie, zejména v oblasti makroekonomie a sektorové analýzy a teorie veřejné volby.
