Background: Children with adenoids that have grown too large often have difficulty breathing or get infections among upper respiratory tract because their airways are blocked. In most cases, adenoidectomy can reduce clinical symptoms and boost quality of life. Objectives: This study aimed to determine if there are any factors that can influence the usual procedure of adenoidectomy and its ability to remove all adenoid tissue. Subjects and Methods: Intra-operative variables for assessing demographic and anatomical characteristics, such as age, sex, weight, height, BMI, and soft palate length were observed in a retrospective analysis to determine their impact on adenoidectomy success. Every child had a standard trans-oral curettage adenoidectomy completed under endoscopic control, and if there were any adenoid remnants, a revision adenoidectomy was done at the same time. The total number of patients included was 208. Results: In 43.7% of patients (91/208), complete adenoidectomy was challenging since traditional surgery could not access the most important parts of the nasopharynx. The average soft palate length in this group was 2.8 centimeters, 5 millimeters longer than the sample as a whole, and 1 cm larger than the typical patient who undergoes only standard surgical procedure alone (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Intraoperatively, the soft palate length can be used as a factor for choosing which patients would undergo endoscopic control following standard adenoidectomy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The frontal sinus is frequently regarded as the most difficult location to reach in functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). There have been numerous reports of significant variations in the capacity, symmetry, and morphology of the frontal sinus. Aim of Study: this study aimed to look at the prevalence of frontal cells in Egyptians and their relationship to chronic frontal sinusitis using the International Frontal Sinus Anatomy Classification (IFAC). Material and Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study was conducted in ENT and Radiology Departments, Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University. 60 cases underwent CTPNS were reviewed during the period from March 2022 to September 2022. High-resolution multislice CT scan was done for each patient. Results: Frontal sinusitis was present in 36.6% of cases and was absent in 63.4% of the studied cases. There was statistically significant difference between both frontal positive sinusitis and frontal negative sinusitis studied groups as regards supra agger cells where it was present in 18.2% of positive sinusitis cases. Background: Sphenoid sinus is the most inaccessible paranasal sinus, enclosed within the sphenoid bone and intimately related to numerous vital neural and vascular structures. Anatomic variation of the sphenoid sinus is well documented and may complicate surgery in such a place. Objective: To assess the reliability of preoperative computed tomography (CT) in determination of the distance between the posterior wall of maxillary sinus (PWMS) and the sphenoid sinus ostium (SSO) in the coronal plane. Patients and methods: This was a prospective study of the distance between the SSO and the PWMS in the coronal plane, which was measured both radiologically in preoperative CT and intraoperatively during endoscopic sinus surgery for patients in need for middle meatal antrostomy and sphenoid sinusotomy at the same side. Distances obtained by both techniques have been tested for the degree of correlation. Number of the included patients was 25. Results: Forty four nasal sides were included in the study. The mean distance between the sphenoid sinus ostium and posterior wall of maxillary sinus in the coronal plane was 6.6 ± 1.8 mm when measured by preoperative CT and 6.9 ± 1.9 mm when measured directly during surgery. No significant difference was found between the mean distances measured by both techniques (p = 0.246) with good agreement between them (r = 0.864). Conclusion: Preoperative CT may be a reliable tool to preoperatively determine the difference in depth between the PWMS and the SSO. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
