The development of smartphones technologies has determined the abundant and prevalent computation. An activity recognition system using mobile sensors enables continuous monitoring of human behavior and assisted living. This paper proposes the mobile sensors-based Epidemic Watch System (EWS) leveraging the AI models to recognize a new set of activities for effective social distance monitoring, probability of infection estimation, and COVID-19 spread prevention. The research focuses on user activities recognition and behavior concerning risks and effectiveness in the COVID-19 pandemic. The proposed EWS consists of a smartphone application for COVID-19 related activities sensors data collection, features extraction, classifying the activities, and providing alerts for spread presentation. We collect the novel dataset of COVID-19 associated activities such as hand washing, hand sanitizing, nose-eyes touching, and handshaking using the proposed EWS smartphone application. We evaluate several classifiers such as random forests, decision trees, support vector machine, and Long Short-Term Memory for the collected dataset and attain the highest overall classification accuracy of 97.33%. We provide the Contact Tracing of the COVID-19 infected person using GPS sensor data. The EWS activities monitoring, identification, and classification system examine the infection risk of another person from COVID-19 infected person. It determines some everyday activities between COVID-19 infected person and normal person, such as sitting together, standing together, or walking together to minimize the spread of pandemic diseases., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Ltd. Vertebrate genomes share numerous conserved non-coding elements, many of which function as enhancer elements and are hypothesised to be under evolutionary constraint due to a need to be bound by combinations of sequence-specific transcription factors. In contrast, few such conserved elements can be detected between vertebrates and their closest invertebrate relatives. Despite this lack of sequence identity, cross-species transgenesis has identified some cases where non-coding DNA from invertebrates drives reporter gene expression in transgenic vertebrates in patterns reminiscent of the expression of vertebrate orthologues. Such instances are presumed to reflect the presence of conserved suites of binding sites in the regulatory regions of invertebrate and vertebrate orthologues, such that both regulatory elements can correctly interpret the trans-activating environment. Shuffling of binding sites has been suggested to lie behind loss of sequence conservation; however this has not been experimentally tested. Here we examine the underlying basis of enhancer activity for the Ciona intestinalis βγ-crystallin gene, which drives expression in the lens of transgenic vertebrates despite the Ciona lineage predating the evolution of the lens. We construct an interactive gene regulatory network (GRN) for vertebrate lens development, allowing network interactions to be robustly catalogued and conserved network components and features to be identified. We show that a small number of binding motifs are necessary for Ciona βγ-crystallin expression, and narrow down the likely factors that bind to these motifs. Several of these overlap with the conserved core of the vertebrate lens GRN, implicating these sites in cross species function. However when we test these motifs in a transgenic vertebrate they prove to be dispensable for reporter expression in the lens. These results show that current models depicting cross species enhancer function as dependent on conserved binding sites can be overly simplistic, with sound evolutionary inference requiring detailed dissection of underlying mechanisms., (Copyright © 2014 The Authors. To facilitate the characterization of compounds that have positive growth factor mimetic effects on neuritogenesis, we have implemented a high-throughput functional assay which measures, in a multiparametric manner, the proliferation and differentiation characteristics of cells in a microtiter plate. Conditions were established using chronic incubation of SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells with retinoic acid (RA) and/or nerve growth factor (NGF) in which discernible alterations in proliferation, growth, and differentiation of cells were induced. SH-SY5Y cells were fixed and labeled by immunocytochemistry, and an automated image acquisition and analysis package on Cellomics ArrayScanII was utilized to quantify the effects of these treatments on cell characteristics. NGF and retinoic acid were found to increase multiple parameters of SH-SY5Y differentiation, including an increased proportion of cells having neurites and increased extent of branching. However, marked differences in the effects of these compounds on SH-SY5Y growth and differentiation were also detected: whereas NGF increased cell number, RA treatment decreased cell number, and RA but not NGF caused significant elongation of neurites. This study quantifies and characterizes the effects of differentiating and proliferating agents on a human-derived neuroblastoma cell line. The high-content, rapid-throughput nature of this assay makes it ideal for functional identification and characterization of compounds regulating cell behavior.
