Selectively reducing nitrite to gaseous nitrogen (N 2 ) with an effective and recyclable fashion stands as an attractive alternative for treating the relevant wastewater. Herein, a Pd-based nanocomposite (Pd@EDA-CMPS) was subtly assembled by encapsulating Pd(0) nanoparticles into a porous polystyrene carrier, which was aforehand functionalized with ethylenediamine (EDA) as the endogenous electron donator. Systematical macroscopic experiments confirm that the pre-grafted EDA groups can substantially stimulate the catalytic activity of the laden Pd(0) nanoparticles with high removal efficiency and N 2 selectivity of Pd@EDA-CMPS toward nitrite; specifically, high N 2 selectivity (86%) was achieved by Pd@EDA-CMPS with an excellent anti-interference ability against competing anion and a broad pH-range applicability (4-11), whereas no N 2 production was detected for its counterparts (CMPS, EDA-CMPS, and Pd@CMPS). Spectroscopic analyses reveal that the grafted EDA groups played a decisive role in the formation of H-loaded Pd(0) nanoparticles inside the porous substrate, which joint with the unique pH-buffering ability of EDA drove the reaction to the production of nitrogen (N 2 ) rather than ammonia (NH 3 ). The exhausted Pd@EDA-CMPS can be promisingly regenerated by NaOH (eluting) and NaBH 4 (restoring) solution without obvious loss in treatment capacity and N 2 selectivity. The presence of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) can adversely affect the anaerobic digestion process, reducing the efficiency of wastewater treatment and methane production. In this study, the addition of exogenous nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) enhanced the efficient treatment of SMX and promoted the energy recovery from antibiotic wastewater. The results showed that the removal of SMX in the reactor pairs with 0.5 g/L nZVI increased by 20 %, 35 %, and 27 %, and the methane production increased by 21.6 %, 40.9 %, and 26.6 %, respectively, compared with the control reactor at different SMX influent concentrations (50, 100, and 200 mg/L). The microbial community distribution indicated that the nZVI facilitated efficient cooperation between acid-producing and methanogens by regulating the relative abundance of functional bacteria, such as Anaerolinea and Methanothrix. Meanwhile, nZVI can effectively facilitate the direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET) and enhance electron transport system (ETS) activity by functioning as a conductive particle and increasing the abundance of genes related to cytochrome C (Cyt C) and type IV pili. In addition, nZVI can reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) transmission by decreasing the relative abundance of ARGs. The environmental hazards of nanobiochar (n-BC) require attention due to limited knowledge. This study is the first to explore the effects of biochar size reduction across various organisms, including bacteria (Allivibrio fischeri), plants (Lemna minor, Lepidium sativum), and invertebrates (Daphnia magna, Folsomia candida). Bulk biochar (b-BC) and n-BC were applied in both liquid and solid-phase tests to assess their ecotoxicity. The resulting leachates were tested at concentrations of 2, 10, and 100 mg/L on organisms such as Daphnia magna and Lemna minor. In the solid-phase tests, b-BC and n-BC were added to the OECD soil at concentrations of 1 % and 5 % to evaluate toxicity in Folsomia candida and at concentrations of 1 % to evaluate toxicity in Lepidium sativum. We found n-BC to be significantly more toxic (by 18 % to 2886 %) to A. fischeri than bulk biochar (b-BC), with toxicity increasing over time. Low doses (1 %) of both b-BC and n-BC did not cause mortality or inhibit reproduction in F. candida, though b-BC enhanced reproduction (by 30 % to 56 %) compared to n-BC. At a 5 % dose, both b-BC and n-BC inhibited reproduction F. candida, with n-BC being 0.5 to 1.8 times more toxic. Neither b-BC nor n-BC immobilized D. magna, but both inhibited reproduction (by 28 % to 35 %). The nanoscale dimensions of n-BC facilitated bioaccumulation in D. magna, leading to adhesion on the organism's body. The n-BC had a greater impact on plants, both b-BC and n-BC were non-toxic to L. minor, but all n-BC inhibited root growth in L. sativum. Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is an important component in aquatic systems. There has been much debate about the potential effects of cascade reservoirs on the transport and transformation of DOM. Here, through a survey of source to leave-boundary section of Lancang River (LCR) in June and November of 2017-2018, our results revealed that weak spatiotemporal variations were observed for DOC content, whereas DOM parameters were significantly different between natural and reservoir reaches. And DOM showed higher humification degree from allochthonous sources with increasing autochthonous matter in reservoir reach, may due to high particulate organic matter and releasing autochthonous DOM from phytoplankton blooms in the LCR, which can be evidenced by depleted DIC, enriched δ 13 C DIC and higher BIX. A unique fluorescent fraction (C5) appeared in the reservoir reach and increased along water flow, which was strongly associated with dissolved CO 2 and N 2 O. Meanwhile, BIX value decreased with increasing dam height, hydraulic residence time (HRT), and reservoir capacity, which may promote CH 4 production, highlighting variation of DOM compositions in understanding the effect of greenhouse gas (GHG) dynamics in the LCR. Soil heavy metal pollution and green waste accumulation have emerged as two major environmental challenges, necessitating the development of sustainable remediation and management technologies. This study investigated the remediation effects of vermicomposted green waste (JE) on cadmium (Cd)-polluted soil. Batch adsorption tests and soil microcosm experiments were conducted to examine the impact of JE on soil quality, microbial community structure, and Cd biotransformation. Results demonstrated that, compared with untreated green waste, JE significantly increased the Cd 2+ adsorption capacity by 55.94 %. This enhancement was attributed primarily to increased surface functional groups and altered crystal structure through vermicomposting. JE treatment effectively improved the soil physicochemical properties, increased the nutrient content and elemental exchangeability, and increased soil enzyme activities. At the microbial level, JE drove the assembly and modification of soil microbial communities, increasing their diversity and abundance, particularly those of beneficial bacterial groups. Environmental matrix analysis revealed complex interactions among soil properties, enzyme activities, and soil microbial communities in terms of Cd biotransformation. Overall, vermicomposted green waste rapidly improved the Cd adsorption efficiency and, upon its soil application, effectively enhanced the Cd-polluted soil quality while optimizing soil microbial community structure and function. This ultimately led to Cd immobilization and inert transformation in the soil. Macroporous three-dimensional (3D) framework structured melamine foam-based Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (f-ELISA) biosensors were developed for rapid, reliable, sensitive, and on-site detection of trace amount of biomolecules and chemicals. Various ligands can be chemically immobilized onto the melamine foam, which brings in the possibility of working with antibodies, nanobodies, and peptides, respectively, as affinity probes for f-ELISA biosensors with improved stability. Different chemical reagents can be used to modify the foam materials, resulting in varied reactivities with antibodies, nanobodies, and peptides. As a result, the f-ELISA sensors produced from these modified foams exhibit varying levels of sensitivity and performance. This study demonstrated that the chemical reagents used for immobilizing antibodies, nanobodies, and peptides could affect the sensitivities of the f-ELISA sensors, and their storage stabilities under different temperatures varied depending on the sensing probes used, with f-ELISA sensors employing nanobodies as probes exhibiting the highest stability. Plateau lakes (e.g., freshwater and saltwater lakes) are formed through intricate processes and harbor diverse microorganisms that mediate aquatic ecosystem functions. The adaptive mechanisms of lake microbiota to environmental changes and the ecological impacts of such changes on microbial community assembly are still poorly understood in plateau regions. This study investigated the structure and assembly of planktonic bacterial communities in 24 lakes across the Qinghai-Tibetan and Inner Mongolia Plateaus, with particular focus on habitat generalists, opportunists, and specialists. High-throughput sequencing of the 16S ribosomal RNA genes revealed that bacterial generalists had a lower species number (2196) but higher alpha diversity than the specialist and opportunist counterparts. Taxonomic dissimilarity and phylogenetic diversity analyses unraveled less pronounced difference in the community composition of bacterial generalists compared to the specialist and opportunist counterparts. Geographical scale (14.4 %) and water quality (12.6 %) emerged as major ecological variables structuring bacterial communities. Selection by water temperature and related variables, including mean annual temperature, elevation, longitude, and latitude, mainly shaped the assembly of bacterial generalists. Ecological drift coupled with selection by salt ions and related variables, including total phosphorus, chlorophyll a, and salinity, predominantly drove the assembly of bacterial specialists and opportunists. Exploring the influences of nitrogen deposition on soil carbon (C) flux is necessary for predicting C cycling processes; however, few studies have investigated the effects of nitrogen deposition on soil respiration (Rs), autotrophic respiration (Ra) and heterotrophic respiration (Rh) across urban-rural forests. In this study, a 4-year simulated nitrogen deposition experiment was conducted by treating the experimental plots with 0, 50, or 100 kg·ha -1 ·year -1 of nitrogen to check out the mechanisms of nitrogen deposition on Rs, Ra, and Rh in urban-rural forests. Our finding indicated a positive association between soil temperature and Rs. Soil temperature sensitivity was significantly suppressed in the experimental plots treated with 100 kg·ha -1 ·year -1 of nitrogen only in terms of the urban forest Rs and Ra and the rural forest Ra. Nitrogen treatment did not significantly increase Rs and had different influencing mechanisms. In urban forests, nitrogen addition contributed to Rh by increasing soil microbial biomass nitrogen and inhibited Ra by increasing soil ammonium‑nitrogen concentration. In suburban forests, the lack of response of Rh under nitrogen addition was due to the combined effects of soil ammonium‑nitrogen and microbial biomass nitrogen; the indirect effects from nitrate‑nitrogen also contributed to a divergent effect on Ra. In rural forests, the soil pH, dissolved organic C, fine root biomass, and microbial biomass C concentration were the main factors mediating Rs and its components. In summary, the current rate of nitrogen deposition is unlikely to result in significant increases in soil C release in urban-rural forests, high nitrogen deposition is beneficial for reducing the temperature sensitivity of Rs in urban forests. Club cell secretory protein (CC16) is considered a biological marker indicating lung epithelial and lung permeability. The joint effect of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) exposure on CC16 levels and the association between CC16 levels and long-term lung function changes lacks epidemiological evidence. To investigate the effect of PAHs exposure on plasma CC16 levels and the association between CC16 levels and long-term lung function changes, this study enrolled 307 coke oven workers in 2014, measured their baseline concentrations of urinary PAHs metabolites and plasma CC16, with follow-up after nine years. Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) was employed to analyze the effect of mixed PAHs metabolites. The dose-effect association between baseline CC16 levels and lung function during 2014-2023 was explored using restricted cubic spline (RCS) models, and stratified analysis investigated the effect modification of PAHs exposure and smoking status on this association. The median age of the participants was 40 years, with 93.81 % male. The results showed that plasma CC16 levels decreased by 2.02 ng/mL (95 % CI: -3.77, -0.27) among all participants and FVC (% predicted) decreased by 2.87 % (95 % CI: -5.59, -0.14) in the low CC16 group with each unit increase in log-transformed 2-OHNAP. The BKMR model revealed a negative association between PAHs metabolites and both plasma CC16 levels and FVC (% predicted). Plasma CC16 decreased by 1.05 units when all PAHs metabolites at P 65 compared to those at P 50 . After 9 years of follow-up, baseline CC16 levels were significantly associated with follow-up FVC (% predicted), FEV 1 (% predicted), and small airway dysfunction risk. Furthermore, high PAHs exposure and smoking enhanced the association between CC16 and lung function. Adsorptive membranes for the efficient separation of dyes with the same charges are quite desirable. Herein, a novel membrane of lanthanum hydroxide/cellulose hydrogel coated filter paper (LC) was prepared through a facile strategy of dip-coating followed by freeze-shaping. With the aid of cellulose gel, the generated La(OH) 3 achieved fine dispersion. In addition, the pore size of LC membrane could be regulated by altering the cellulose concentration or the lanthanum chloride dosage, which was crucial for its water flux. In particular, the obtained membrane possessed a high water flux (128.4 L m -2  h -1 ) and a high dye rejection (97.2 %) for anionic Congo red (CR) only driven by the gravity, which outperformed many previously reported membranes. More intriguingly, its dye rejection for anionic methyl orange (MO) was only 0.9 %, exhibiting high selectivity for dyes with the same charges. Background: The complexity of a constricted ear shape renders the aim of establishing a uniform surgical method unattainable, thus posing an ongoing challenge in its correction. The Tanzer's group IIB constricted ear is characterized by a prominent downward folding, an underdeveloped antihelix, and the absence of sacpha. The present study used a V-Y advancement flap combined with concha cartilage for the repair of Tanzer's group IIB constricted ear., Method: A total of 16 patients diagnosed with type IIB ear constriction from September 2016 to September 2022 were enrolled in this retrospective study. The correction procedure for the constricted ear involved the utilization of a V-Y advancement flap combined with concha cartilage graft. The auricle shape data of the patients, their visual analog scale (VAS) satisfaction scores, and aesthetic outcomes scale (AOS) aesthetic scores were examined preoperatively and 12 months post-operatively., Result: The mean duration of follow-up in this study was 18 months. The post-operative measurements of ear length, ear width, bilateral differences in ear length, and bilateral differences in ear width exhibited significant improvement compared to the preoperative values. The mean preoperative AOS score was 1.12 ± 0.34, and the mean post-operative AOS score increased to 3.81 ± 0.40. The preoperative VAS satisfaction score was 2.31 ± 0.70, whereas the post-operative VAS score significantly increased to 8.00 ± 0.89. The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau has a booming tourism industry and an increasingly sophisticated road system. There is a paucity of studies quantifying the contributions of anthropogenic and natural factors to microplastic pollution in remote plateau areas. In this study, water and sediment samples were collected from eight lake tourist attractions and four remote lakes in northern and southern regions of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Microplastics were detected in all samples, with a mean abundance of 0.78 items/L in water and 44.98 items/kg in sediment. The abundance of microplastics in the study area was lower than previously observed in more populated areas of China. Small-sized (<1 mm and 1-2 mm), fiber, and transparent microplastics were predominant, with polyethylene and polypropylene microplastics as the primary polymer types. The compositions of microplastic communities indicated that tourism and road networks were the major sources of microplastics in the lakes. Distance-decay models revealed greater influence of environmental distances on microplastic community similarity than geographic distance. Compared to climate factors, urban spatial impact intensity and traffic flow impact played a leading role in the structuring of microplastic communities in lake water and sediment. Polystyrene microplastics (PS) and dibutyl phthalate (DBP) are emerging pollutants widely coexisting in agroecosystems. However, the efficacies of PS as carriers for DBP and their interactive mechanisms on crop safety remain scarce. Here, this study investigated the combined exposure effects and the interacting mechanisms of PS laden with DBP on choy sum (Brassica parachinensis L.). Results showed that PS could efficiently adsorb and carry DBP, with a maximum carrying capacity of 9.91 %, facilitating the chemical translocation of DBP in choy sum and exacerbating phytotoxicity. Due to the changes in the properties of PS, DBP loading aggravated the phytotoxicity of choy sum, exhibiting synergistically toxic effects compared with individual exposure. The Trojan-horse-complexes formed by PS+DBP severely delayed the seed germination process and altered spatial growth patterns, causing disruptions in oxidative stress, osmoregulation, photosynthetic function, and elemental reservoirs of choy sum. Combined pollutants enhanced the uptake and translocation of both PS and DBP by 8.90-31.94 % and 136.81-139.37 %, respectively; while the accumulation processes for PS were more complex than for DBP. Visualization indicated that PS was intensively sequestered in roots with a strong fluorescent signal after loading DBP. High-resolution identification of chromium (Cr) species, especially various organic-Cr complexes, in a convenient and economically-feasible manner is the prerequisite for achieving the advanced treatment of chromium wastewater. To this end, a colorimetric nano-Au sensor array was developed by taking advantage of the UV-spectra shift of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) upon interaction with Cr species; specifically, four molecular modifiers [i.e., iminodiacetic acid (IDA), tripolyphosphate (TPP), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), and 1,5-diphenylcarbazide (DPC)] were intentionally employed for assembling nano-Au array receptors, which showed respective responses toward different Cr species through the formation of coordination, hydrophobic interaction, electrostatic attraction, and redox reaction, respectively; the "fingerprint" differences of the unique optical properties were then integrated for semi-quantitatively recognizing Cr species by pattern recognition techniques. Eleven ubiquitous Cr species [i.e., Cr(III), Cr(VI), and various Cr(III)-organic complexes] served as the model samples, which could be sensitively identified, no matter in individual or mixture mode, by the developed nano-Au sensor array on the basis of the colorimetric responses resulted from diverse nano-Au-aggregation behaviors, with excellent anti-interference ability in the simulated or actual water scenario. Attractively, the nano-Au sensor array can achieve very sensitive detection limit of the quantitative analyses of Cr species in a prompt in-situ manner, which usually requires a two-step process of separation and detection for the conventional analytical methods. PM 2.5 exposure has been found to cause gut dysbiosis and impair glucose homeostasis in human and animals, yet their underlying biological connection remain unclear. In the present study, we aim to investigate the biological significance of gut microbiota in PM 2.5 -induced glucose metabolic abnormalities. Our results showed that microbiota depletion by antibiotics treatment significantly alleviated PM 2.5 -induced glucose intolerance and insulin resistance, as indicated by the intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test, glucose-induced insulin secretion, insulin tolerance test, insulin-induced phosphorylation levels of Akt and GSK-3β in insulin sensitive tissues. In addition, faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) from PM 2.5 -exposed donor mice successfully remodeled the glucose metabolism abnormalities in recipient mice, while the transplantation of autoclaved faecal materials did not. Faecal microbiota analysis demonstrated that the composition and alpha diversity of the gut bacterial community were altered by PM 2.5 exposure and in FMT recipient mice. Furthermore, short-chain fatty acids levels analysis showed that the circulating acetate was significantly decreased in PM 2.5 -exposed donor and FMT recipient mice, and supplementation of sodium acetate for 3 months successfully improved the glucose metabolism abnormalities induced by PM 2.5 exposure. It has been well acknowledged that maternal exposure to fine particulate matters (PM 2.5 ) might lead to poor pregnancy outcomes including the intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) by interfering with the placental development. Our previous studies have demonstrated that maternal PM 2.5 exposure induces IUGR, accompanied with increased maternal circulating TNFα level and impaired extravillous trophoblast cells (EVTs) invasion in mice. In this study, HTR8/SVneo cells, the immortalized human EVTs line, were used to assess effects and the underlying molecular mechanisms of nicotinamide on the impaired EVTs invasion. Our results showed that, the placental FLT1 protein level was significantly increased whereas maternal serum nicotinamide concentration was remarkably decreased in PM 2.5 -exposured pregnant mice at GD17.5 (vaginal plug day=GD0.5), compared to that in normal GD17.5 pregnant mice. FLT1 expression in HTR8/SVneo cells was significantly up-regulated by TNFα treatment, and the down-regulated FLT1 expression effectively abated the inhibitory effects of TNFα on HTR8/SVneo cells migration and invasion. Meanwhile, TNFα promoted reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and NF-κB signaling pathway activation in HTR8/SVneo cells in a dose-dependent manner. Nicotinamide treatment significantly reversed the effects of TNFα on cell migration and invasion, as well as the FLT1 expression, ROS production and NF-κB pathway activation. Lathyrane-based diterpenoid is one of the critical bioactive elements of Euphorbia lathyris L., a widely used traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of inflammation and infection. In this study, we introduced and evaluated seven synthetic or natural lathyrane-based diterpenoids with the same core structure but notable structural variations at specific positions, for their anti-inflammatory and gout-alleviating properties. There was no significant cytotoxicity below 10 μM among the initial test of the cell counting kit 8 of the seven candidate derivatives (compounds 13 to 19) in this work. Furthermore, maintaining the acyloxy group at 15-C position and the strongly hydrophobic aryl structure at 3-C and 5-C positions, compounds 15 (Euphorbia factor L3, EFL3) and 17 strikingly inhibited the production of IL-1β related to the actuation of the inflammasome in our study. The ELISA assay indicated that the anti-inflammatory effects of EFL3 were better associated with MSU stimulation than other second-line pathways triggered by inflammasome. Further examinations on the acute paw gout model in C57BL/6 mice showed that EFL3 had a significantly inflammatory retarding effect by intraperitoneal injection. It decreased swelling volume as well as the cleavage and activation of local IL-1β and casepas-1 in the paw. To conclude, our findings reveal several potential key structure-activity relationships that govern the anti-inflammatory effects of lathyrane-type diterpenoids, the dispensable acyl group at the 15-C position, the importance of maintaining the spatial structure of the B-ring, and the potential importance of hydrophobic substituents at the 3-C position. Background: Cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) play a vital role in cell-cell interactions, immune response modulation, and tumor cell migration. However, the unique role of CAMs in gastric cancer (GC) remains largely unexplored., Methods: This study characterized the genetic alterations and mRNA expression of CAMs. The role of CD34, a representative molecule, was validated in 375 GC tissues. The activity of the CAM pathway was further tested using single-cell and bulk characterization. Next, data from 839 patients with GC from three cohorts was analyzed using univariate Cox and random survival forest methods to develop and validate a CAM-related prognostic model., Results: Most CAM-related genes exhibited multi-omics alterations and were associated with clinical outcomes. There was a strong correlation between increased CD34 expression and advanced clinical staging (P = 0.026), extensive vascular infiltration (P = 0.003), and unfavorable prognosis (Log-rank P = 0.022). CD34 expression was also found to be associated with postoperative chemotherapy and tumor immunotherapy response. Furthermore, the CAM pathway was significantly activated and mediated poor prognosis. Additionally, eight prognostic signature genes (PSGs) were identified in the training cohort. There was a substantial upregulation of the expression of immune checkpoints and a pronounced infiltration of immune cells in GC tissues with high PSG score, which is consistent with the prediction of increased sensitivity to immunotherapy. Amorphous solid dispersion (ASD) has been widely used to enhance the oral bioavailability of water-insoluble drugs for oral delivery because of its advantages of enhancing solubility and dissolution rate. However, the problems related to drug recrystallization after drug dissolution in media or body fluid have constrained its application. Recently, a self-nanomicellizing solid dispersion (SNMSD) has been developed by incorporating self-micellizing polymers as carriers to settle the problems, markedly improving the ability of supersaturation maintenance and enhancing the oral bioavailability of drug. Real-time monitoring of blood pressure in athletes during exercise is of great importance, however, conventional methods pose challenges in achieving portable and instantaneous measurements. While, the electrodes used in emerging wearable blood pressure monitoring instruments still have certain defects. In this study, a novel cuffless blood pressure monitoring system was developed using a self-developed polyacrylamide/trehalose/LiCl (PAM/Trehalose/LiCl) conductive hydrogel as the electrode material. The hydrogel electrode has high tensile (strain: 3568 %) and conductive properties (7.57 S/m), while also exhibiting low toughness, moisture retention, and adhesion. While ensuring the comfort of the monitoring system, it can also accurately detect strain over a wide range of deformations (GF value of up to 6.31 in the strain interval of 2000-3400 %). Finally, this system accurately extracts relevant features of PPG and ECG signals and predicts cuff-less blood pressure using the BP Transformer-XL model. The main control chip, ECG detection module, Bluetooth module, and PPG detection module are integrated, and band-pass filtering and data feature extraction techniques are combined. The study found that the average errors in systolic and diastolic readings were 2.09 mmHg and 1.57 mmHg, respectively, compared to those measured by an electronic sphygmomanometer. Surface hydrophobicity of organisms provides biological self-protection. The hydrophobicity of pest surface, acting as a main obstacle for the pest control, can lead to low utilization and high loss of pesticides. Dermanyssus gallinae is a notorious pest in egg-laying hens, whose control primarily depends on acaricide spraying, while its surface hydrophobicity and potential influence on pesticide effectiveness are not clear. In the present study, the contact angle measurements revealed that the surface of D. gallinae was hydrophobic. Analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that the surface microstructures of D. gallinae consist of cuticular folds, with a lipid-rich outermost layer of the cuticle. Based on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas chromatography (GC), it was found that the major compositions of cuticular lipids were fatty acids and n-alkanes. Modifying the chemical compositions and microstructures of the D. gallinae surface resulted in a reduction in surface hydrophobicity and an increase in the permeation of Rhodamine B through the cuticle. This observation suggested that the chemical compositions and microstructures were pivotal in determining surface hydrophobicity, hindering compound penetration into the cuticle. Finally, it was found improving the wettability of pesticide solution by adding surfactants could overcome the surface hydrophobicity and enhance the efficacy of pesticide against the mites. Chromium (Cr) is a toxic and redox-sensitive contaminant that has accumulated in water and soil systems, becoming a serious issue worldwide. Producing novel remedial materials with enhanced removal efficiency from plentiful available sources is a pleasing aspect for Cr removal. This review explores valuable insights into the production of nitrogen doped biochar (N/BC), iron doped biochar (Fe/BC), and iron‑nitrogen doped biochar (Fe-N/BC) and their application for Cr (trivalent (Cr(III)) and hexavalent (Cr(VI)) removal. Specifically, this review focuses on conferring knowledge about producing environmentally friendly N and Fe doped BCs with enhanced surface functionalities, physicochemical properties, and holding capacities for removing Cr(VI) through adsorption and reduction. Affecting factors for Cr(VI) removal by N/BC, Fe/BC, and Fe-N/BC through reviewing the literature on the reaction system pH, mass transfer driving forces, effect of coexisting ions, BC production conditions, and redox potential are overviewed. Notably, isotherm and kinetic models and removal mechanisms of Cr(VI) by N/BC, Fe/BC, and Fe-N/BC with the assistance of characterization analyses, experimental results, and computational modeling methods are explored. Finally, the regeneration, cost evaluation, and environmental implications, as well as the real-world applications and environmental risks of N/BC, Fe/BC, and Fe-N/BC are discussed. Magnetite nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 -NPs) have been demonstrated to be involved in direct interspecies electron transfer between syntrophic bacteria, yet a comprehensive assessment of the ability of Fe 3 O 4 -NPs to cope with process instability and volatile fatty acids (VFAs) accumulation in scaled-up anaerobic reactors is still lacking. Here, we investigated the start-up characteristics of an expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) with Fe 3 O 4 -NPs as an adjuvant at high organic loading rate (OLR). The results showed that the methane production rate of R1 (with Fe 3 O 4 -NPs) was approximately 1.65 folds of R0 (control), and effluent COD removal efficiency was maintained at approximately 98.32% upon 20 kg COD/(m 3 ·d) OLR. The components of volatile fatty acids are acetate and propionate, and the rapid scavenging of propionate accumulation was the difference between R1 and the control. The INT-ETS activity of R1 was consistently higher than that of R0 and R2, and the electron transfer efficiencies increased by 68.78% and 131.44%, respectively. Meanwhile, the CV curve analysis showed that the current of R1 was 40% higher than R3 (temporary addition of Fe 3 O 4 -NPs), indicating that multiple electron transfer modes might coexist. High-throughput analysis further revealed that it was difficult to reverse the progressive deterioration of system performance with increasing OLR by simply reconfiguring bacterial community structure and abundance, demonstrating that the Fe 3 O 4 -NPs-mediated DIET pathway is a prerequisite for establishing multiple electron transfer systems. Background: Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) and skin-sparing mastectomy (SSM) are challenging for surgical training among fellow trainees. We developed a surgical training course with novel concept of breast modular resection (BMR) for NSM/SSM procedure, and performed this study to investigate whether BMR could improve surgical outcomes compared to classical procedure resection (CPR)., Methods: The records of 105 breast cancer patients undergoing NSM/SSM with immediate reconstruction performed by fellow trainees were reviewed. Clinicopathological characteristics and surgical outcomes were compared between 2 groups. Laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) was performed to intraoperatively evaluate the blood supply of the NAC, and the absolute perfusion unit (PU) values and relative perfusion unit (rPU) values were further compared., Results: Surgical training outcomes of BMR group (N = 52) were insignificantly improved compared to CPR group (N = 53). The rates of NAC necrosis, flap necrosis and implant removal all reduced respectively. Among the 60 NSM patients, the blood loss (P = .011) and surgery time (P < .001) was significantly reduced in BMR group (N = 30) and all the other outcomes were insignificantly improved. Both the absolute PU values and rPU values were significantly higher among patients without NAC necrosis (P < .001). The absolute PU values were significantly higher in BMR group (P = .002)., Conclusion: Compared to CPR, the BMR-based surgical training course for NSM demonstrated the reduction in complications and operating time, offering a potential streamlined, efficient, and safe method for NSM procedure. Herein, we developed a technique for loading nanopesticides onto Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) to control Spodoptera litura. The average short-axis length of the synthesized carrier emamectin benzoate@PCN-222 @hyaluronic acid (EB@PCN-222 @HA) was ∼40 nm, with an average long-axis length of ∼80 nm. This enabled the manipulation of its size, contact angle, and surface tension on the surface of leaves. Pesticide-loading capacity, determined via thermogravimetric analysis, was measured at ∼16 %. To ensure accurate pesticide release in the alkaline intestine of Spodoptera litura, EB@PCN-222 @HA was engineered to decompose under alkaline conditions. In addition, the carrier delayed the degradation rate of EB, enhancing EB's stability. Loading Nile red onto PCN-222 @HA revealed potential entry into the insect body through feeding, which was supported by bioassay experiments. Results demonstrated the sustained-release performance of EB@PCN-222 @HA, extending its effective duration. The impact of different carrier concentrations on root length, stem length, fresh weight, and germination rate of pakchoi and tomato were assessed. Promisingly, the carrier exhibited a growth-promoting effect on the fresh weight of both the crops. Furthermore, cytotoxicity experiments confirmed its safety for humans. In cytotoxicity assays, PCN-222 @HA showed minimal toxicity at concentrations up to 100 mg/L, with cell survival rates above 80 %. Notably, the EB@PCN-222 @HA complex demonstrated reduced cytotoxicity compared to EB alone, supporting its safety for human applications. Community coalescence denotes the amalgamation of biotic and abiotic factors across multiple intact ecological communities. Despite the growing attention given to the phenomenon of coalescence, there remains limited investigation into community coalescence in single and multiple source habitats and its impact on microbial community assemblages in sinks. This study focused on a major river catchment in northern China. We investigated microbial community coalescence across different habitats (i.e., water, sediment, biofilm, and riparian soil) and seasons (i.e., summer and winter). Using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequence variants, we examined the relationship between community coalescence and microbial diversity, assembly processes, and species coexistence. The results showed that the intensity of microbial community coalescence was higher in the same habitat pairs compared to disparate habitat pairs in both summer and winter. During the occurrence of microbial community coalescence, the assembly processes regulated the intensity of coalescence. When the microbial community exhibited strong heterogeneous selection (heterogeneous environmental conditions leading to more dissimilar community structures), the intensity of community coalescence was low. With the assembly process shifted towards stochasticity, coalescence intensity increased gradually. However, when homogeneous selection (homogeneous environmental conditions leading to more similar community structures) predominantly shaped microbial communities, coalescence intensity exceeded the threshold of 0.25-0.30. Moreover, the enhanced intensity of community coalescence could increase the complexity of microbial networks, thereby enhancing species coexistence. Furthermore, the assembly processes mediated the relationship between community coalescence and species coexistence, underscoring the pivotal role of intermediate intensity of community coalescence in maintaining efficient species coexistence. Objective: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the relationship between stillbirth and various perinatal outcomes in subsequent pregnancy., Data Sources: PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, and CNKI databases were searched up to July 2023., Study Eligibility Criteria: Cohort studies that reported the association between stillbirth and perinatal outcomes in subsequent pregnancies were included., Methods: We conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Statistical analysis was performed using R and Stata software. We used random-effects models to pool each outcome of interest. We performed a meta-regression analysis to explore the potential heterogeneity. The certainty (quality) of evidence assessment was performed using the GRADE approach., Results: Nineteen cohort studies were included, involving 4,855,153 participants. From these studies, we identified 28,322 individuals with previous stillbirths who met the eligibility criteria. After adjusting for confounders, evidence of low to moderate certainty indicated that compared with women with previous live births, women with previous stillbirths had higher risks of recurrent stillbirth (odds ratio, 2.68; 95% confidence interval, 2.01-3.56), preterm birth (odds ratio, 3.15; 95% confidence interval, 2.07-4.80), neonatal death (odds ratio, 4.24; 95% confidence interval, 2.65-6.79), small for gestational age/intrauterine growth restriction (odds ratio, 1.3; 95% confidence interval, 1.0-1.8), low birthweight (odds ratio, 3.32; 95% confidence interval, 1.46-7.52), placental abruption (odds ratio, 3.01; 95% confidence interval, 1.01-8.98), instrumental delivery (odds ratio, 2.29; 95% confidence interval, 1.68-3.11), labor induction (odds ratio, 4.09; 95% confidence interval, 1.88-8.88), cesarean delivery (odds ratio, 2.38; 95% confidence interval, 1.20-4.73), elective cesarean delivery (odds ratio, 2.42; 95% confidence interval, 1.82-3.23), and emergency cesarean delivery (odds ratio, 2.35; 95% confidence interval, 1.81-3.06) in subsequent pregnancies, but had a lower rate of spontaneous labor (odds ratio, 0.22; 95% confidence interval, 0.13-0.36). However, there was no association between previous stillbirth and preeclampsia (odds ratio, 1.72; 95% confidence interval, 0.63-4.70) in subsequent pregnancies., Conclusion: Our systematic review and meta-analysis provide a more comprehensive understanding of adverse pregnancy outcomes associated with previous stillbirth. The ALDH1A1 gene encodes a cytoplasmic member of the aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family, which plays an important role in regulating animal reproductive performance, including estrus cycle and embryonic development. The aim of this study was to characterize ALDH1A1 activity in ovaries of 3-5 year-old yaks and to determine its effects on cell proliferation, apoptosis, and progesterone secretion in luteal cells (LCs). The coding sequence (CDS) of the ALDH1A1 gene was cloned by reverse transcription-PCR and immunohistochemical analysis was used to confirm localization of the ALDH1A1 protein in the ovary. To assess the activity of ALDH1A1 in regulating progesterone secretion, si-ALDH1A1 was transfected into LCs in vitro and progesterone levels in LC supernatants were measured by ELISA. The interference efficiency was assessed by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and immunofluorescence staining, and cell proliferation and apoptosis were evaluated by EdU and TUNEL staining, respectively. The cloned ALDH1A1 sequence contained 1462 bp, encoding 487 amino acids. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that ALDH1A1 protein expression, which was significantly higher in LCs, was mainly found in antral follicles and the corpus luteum (CL). The expression of ALDH1A1 mRNA in LCs was effectively inhibited by si-ALDH1A1transfection, and progesterone secretion was markedly decreased along with the significant down-regulation of progesterone pathway-related genes, STAR, CYP11A1, CYP19A1, CYP17A1, 3β-HSD, and HSD17B1. Knockdown of ALDH1A1 mRNA expression decreased cell proliferation and increased apoptosis in LCs. The mRNA expression of the proliferation-related genes, PCNA, CCND1, CCNB1 and CDC25A, was significantly down-regulated, while expression of the apoptosis-promoting CASP3 gene was significantly increased. Aims: An increasing number of studies have highlighted the biological significance of neutrophil activation and polarization in tumor progression. However, the characterization of tumor-associated neutrophils (TANs) is inadequately investigated., Materials and Methods: Patients' expression profiles were obtained from TCGA, GEO, and IMvigor210 databases. Six algorithms were used to assess immune cell infiltration. RNA sequencing was conducted to evaluate the differentially expressed genes between induced N1- and N2-like neutrophils. A TAN-associated risk score (TRS) model was established using a combination of weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and RNA-seq data and further assessed in pan-cancer. A clinical cohort of 117 GC patients was enrolled to assess the role of TANs in GC via immunohistochemistry (IHC)., Key Findings: A TRS signature was built with 10 TAN-related genes (TRGs) and most TRGs were highly abundant in the TANs of the GC microenvironment. The TRS model could accurately predict patients' prognosis, as well as their responses to chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The TRS was positively correlated with pro-tumor immune cells and exhibited negative relationship with anti-tumor immune cells. Additional functional analyses revealed that the signature was positively related to pro-tumor and immunosuppression pathways, such as the hypoxia pathway, across pan-cancer. Microbial communities assemble stochastically and deterministically, but how different assembly processes shape diatom community structure across riverine habitats is unclear, especially in sediment-laden environments. In this study, we deciphered the mechanisms of riverine diatom community assembly in the water column and riverbed substrate with varying sediment concentrations. Water and sediment samples were collected from 44 sampling sites along the Yellow River mainstream during two seasons. Diatom communities were characterized based on high-throughput sequencing of the 18S ribosomal RNA genes coupled with multivariate statistical analyses. A total of 198 diatom species were taxonomically assigned, including 182 free-living and particle-attached species and 184 surface-sediment species. Planktonic communities were structurally different from benthic communities, with Cyclotella being dominant mainly in the middle and lower reaches of the river with higher sediment concentrations. Both stochastic and deterministic processes affected diatom community assembly in different habitats. Species dispersal was more important in the water than in the substrate, and this process was strengthened by increased sediment concentration across habitats. Diatom communities exhibited lower network complexity and enhanced antagonistic or competitive interactions between species in response to higher sediment concentrations compared with lower sediment concentrations mainly in the source region of the river. Differences in the species composition and community diversity of planktonic diatoms were closely correlated with the proportion of bare land area, nitrogen nutrients, precipitation, and sediment concentration. In particular, particle-attached diatoms responded sensitively to environmental factors. In light of the pressing need to reduce carbon emissions, the biomass power generation industry has gained significant attention and has increasingly become a crucial focus in China. However, there are still considerable gaps in the historical background, status, and prospects of biomass power generation. Herein, the historical and current status of biomass power generation in China are systematically reviewed, with a particular emphasis on supportive policies, environmental impacts, and future projections. By 2022, the newly installed capacity for biomass power generation reached 3.34 MW with a total installed capacity of 41 MW. The power produced from biomass power generation is 182.4 billion kWh in China. The total installed capacity and generated power in 2022 were 1652 and 1139 folds higher than in 2006 when the first biomass generation plant was established. However, disparities in the distribution of biomass resources and power generation were observed. Key drivers of the industry development include tax, finance, and subsidy policies. Under the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan for renewable energy development and the goal of carbon neutrality, biomass power generation may achieve great success through more targeted policy support and advanced technologies that reduce air pollutant emissions. Background: Congenital microtia presents challenges that encompass physical disabilities and psychosocial distress. It is reported that people with low income have a higher possibility of giving birth to babies with congenital malformations. At the end of June 2023, auricular reconstruction was partially incorporated into national health insurance in our hospital., Methods: Briefly, 1290 surgeries, including stage-I and stage-II auricular reconstruction with tissue expansion were performed in 2023, involving 779 patients. Patient data, including age, sex, length of stay, residence, and costs, were retrieved from the electronic medical record system. The final cost before and after health insurance coverage, as well as the medical insurance reimbursement ratio in each province and municipality were statistically analyzed., Results: Following insurance coverage, a significant increase in the number of surgeries was observed (514 [39.84%] vs. 776 [60.16%], χ 2 = 45.99, p = 0.000), with notable reductions in out-of-pocket costs for unilateral and bilateral stage-I and -II auricular reconstructions ($3915.01 vs. $6645.28, p < 0.05; $11546.80 vs. $5198.08, p < 0.05). Disparities in reimbursement rates across regions were evident, but showed no correlation to the local GDP per capita. There was a positive correlation between the length of stay and inpatient cost. Patient's age was not related to the inpatient cost, but to the length of stay., Conclusion: The health insurance coverage for microtia treatment significantly alleviated financial burdens on the patients' family and increased the number of auricular reconstruction surgeries. Excessive phosphorus (P) in eutrophic water induces cyanobacterial blooms that aggravate the burden of in-situ remediation measures. In order to ensure better ecological recovery, Flock & Lock technique has been developed to simultaneously sink cyanobacteria and immobilize P but requires a combination of flocculent and P inactivation agent. Here we synthesized a novel lanthanum-modified pyroaurite (LMP), as an alternative for Flock & Lock of cyanobacteria and phosphorus at the background of rich humic acid and suspended solids. LMP shows a P adsorption capacity of 36.0 mg/g and nearly 100 % removal of chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), turbidity, UV 254 and P at a dosage (0.3 g/L) much lower than the commercial analogue (0.5 g/L). The resultant sediment (98.2 % as immobile P) exhibits sound stability without observable release of P or re-growth of cyanobacteria over a 50-day incubation period. The use of LMP also constrains the release of toxic microcystins to 1.4 μg/L from the sunk cyanobacterial cells, outperforming the commonly used polyaluminum chloride (PAC). Similar Flock & Lock efficiency could also be achieved in real eutrophic water. The outstanding Flock & Lock performance of LMP is attributable to the designed La modification. During LMP treatment, La acts as not only a P binder by formation of LaPO 4 , but also a coagulant to create a synergistic effect with pyroaurite. The controlled hydrolysis of surface La(III) over pyroaurite aided the possible formation of La(III)-pyroaurite networking structure, which significantly enhanced the Flock & Lock process through adsorption, charge neutralization, sweep flocculation and entrapment. In the end, the preliminary economic analysis is performed. Flooding is an important process in natural fluvial floodplains. How the flood shapes aquatic community diversity in highland floodplains is still poorly understood. The aim of this study was to unravel the multi-faceted responses of benthic macroinvertebrate diversity to flooding and habitat environments in the Baihe River Basin from a taxonomic, phylogenetic, and functional perspective. We examined the alpha and beta diversity patterns of benthic macroinvertebrate communities in the mainstream, tributaries, and oxbow lakes during the normal water and flood periods. The results showed that the traditional alpha taxonomic diversity (TD) varied across habitats, despite minor changes after flood pulse. Alpha phylogenetic diversity (PD) decreased and alpha functional diversity (FD) markedly increased after flooding, with functional traits transiting toward risk avoidance. While all the three facets of beta diversity significantly responded to habitat differences, beta TD and PD shifted in response to flooding. Species turnover prominently increased in beta TD and PD after flood pulse, which contrasted with a weaker response of this process in FD. The explanatory power of significant environmental factors on both alpha and beta diversity was reduced by flooding. Compared with traditional TD, cooperating multi-faceted diversity could better depict the responses of benthic macroinvertebrate communities to flooding. Background: To refine the methods of developing clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for integrative Chinese-Western medicine (ICWM), promoting the formation of trustworthy, implementable recommendations that integrate the strengths of Chinese and Western medicine., Methods: Using a nominal group technique (NGT) approach, a multidisciplinary expert panel was established. The panel identified key methodological issues in ICWM-CPG development through literature review and iterative discussions, and formulated methodological proposals to address these issues. The final set of proposals was achieved through consensus among the panel members., Results: The collaborative effort resulted in the identification of five pivotal methodological issues and the subsequent establishment of 22 specific recommendations. These encompass strict adherence to renowned standards, such as those proposed by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and Guidelines International Network (G-I-N), the employment of methodologies like the GRADE approach and RIGHT statement, the strategic constitution of a balanced development group, the adept identification of ICWM-focused clinical inquiries, the nuanced integration of diverse evidence sources, and the detailed crafting of transparent, implementable recommendations., Conclusions: This study concentrates on the most crucial and prevalent methodological issues in ICWM-CPG development, proposing a series of recommendations. Background: In patients with hilar cholangiocarcinoma (HCCA), radical resection can be achieved by resection and reconstruction of the vasculature. However, whether vascular reconstruction (VR) improves long-term and short-term prognosis has not been demonstrated comprehensively., Methods: This was a retrospective multicenter study of patients who received surgery for HCCA with or without VR. Variables associated with overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) were identified based on Cox regression. Kaplan-Meier curves were used to explore the impact of VR. Restricted mean survival time (RMST) was used for comparisons of short-term survival between the groups. Patients' intraoperative and postoperative characteristics were compared., Results: Totally 447 patients were enrolled. We divided these patients into 3 groups: VR with radical resections (n = 84); non-VR radical resections (n = 309) and non-radical resection (we pooled VR-nonradical and non-VR nonradical together, n = 54). Cox regression revealed that carbohydrate antigen 242 (CA242), vascular invasion, lymph node metastasis and poor differentiation were independent risk factors for OS and RFS. There was no significant difference of RMST between the VR and non-VR radical groups within 12 months after surgery (10.18 vs. 10.76 mon, P = 0.179), although the 5-year OS (P < 0.001) and RFS (P < 0.001) were worse in the VR radical group. The incidences of most complications were not significantly different, but those of bile leakage (P < 0.001) and postoperative infection (P = 0.009) were higher in the VR radical group than in the non-VR radical group. Additionally, the levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) up to 7 days after surgery tended to decrease in all groups. There was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative liver failure between the VR and non-VR radical groups., Conclusions: Radical resection can be achieved with VR to improve the survival rate without worsening short-term survival compared with resection with non-VR. In this study, multilayer self-assembled multifunctional bamboo shoot shell biochar microspheres (BSSBM) were prepared, in which bamboo shoot shell biochar was used as the carrier, titanium dioxide as the intermediate medium, and chitosan as the adhesion layer. The adsorption behavior of BSSBM on heavy metals Ag(I) and Pd(II), antibiotics, and dye wastewater was systematically analyzed. BSSBM shows a wide range of adsorption capacity. BSSBM is a promising candidate for the purification of real polluted water, not only for metal ions, but also for Tetracycline (TC) and Methylene Blue (MB). The maximum adsorption amounts of BSSBM on Pd(II), Ag(I), TC and MB were 417.3 mg/g, 222.5 mg/g, 97.2 mg/g and 42.9 mg/g, respectively.The adsorption of BSSBM on Pd(II), MB and TC conformed to the quasi-first kinetic model, and the adsorption on Ag(I) conformed to the quasi-second kinetic model. BSSBM showed remarkable selective adsorption capacity for Ag(I) and Pd(II) in a multi-ion coexistence system. BSSBM not only realized the high value-added utilization of waste, but also had the advantages of low cost, renewable and selective adsorption. Background: A recently discovered risk factor for chronic liver disease is ambient fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ). Our research aims to elucidate the effects of PM 2.5 on liver injury and the potential molecular mechanisms., Methods and Results: A population-based longitudinal study involving 102,918 participants from 15 Chinese cities, using linear mixed-effect models, found that abnormal alterations in liver function were significantly associated with long-term exposure to PM 2.5 . The serum levels of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, gamma-glutamyl transferase, direct bilirubin, and triglyceride increased by 2.05%, 2.04%, 0.58%, 2.99%, and 1.46% with each 10 µg/m 3 increase in PM 2.5 . In contrast, the serum levels of total protein, albumin, and prealbumin decreased by 0.27%, 0.48%, and 2.42%, respectively. Mice underwent chronic inhalation exposure to PM 2.5 experienced hepatic inflammation, steatosis and fibrosis. In vitro experiments found that hepatocytes experienced an inflammatory response and lipid metabolic dysregulation due to PM 2.5 , which also activated hepatic stellate cells. The down-regulation and mis-localization of polarity protein Par3 mediated PM 2.5 -induced liver injury., Conclusions: PM 2.5 exposure induced liver injury, mainly characterized by steatosis and fibrosis. It has been reported that Cr(VI) can be reduced by biochar because of its redox activity. Considering the anionic form of Cr(VI), we hypothesize that the reduction in aqueous phase is significant. However, the contribution of different reactive oxygen species in the biochar-Cr(VI) reaction system has not been distinguished. Herein, we quantitatively identified Cr(VI) adsorption and reduction in biochar systems. The reduction content of Cr(VI) was 1.5 times higher in untreated conditions than in anaerobic conditions. The disappearance of·O 2 - under anaerobic conditions illustrated that·O 2 - may be involved in the reduction of Cr(VI). Quenching of·O 2 - resulted in a decrease of Cr(VI) reduction by 34%, while 1 O 2 was negligible, probably due to the stronger electron-donating capacity of·O 2 - . The degradation of nitrotetrazolium blue chloride (quenching agent of·O 2 - ) confirmed that the reduction process of·O 2 - mainly occurred in the liquid-phase. Boehm titration and quantification of·O 2 - further elucidated the significant correlation (P < 0.05) between phenolic groups and the formation of·O 2 - , which implied that phenolic groups acted as the primary electron donors in generating·O 2 - . Environmentally persistent free radicals (EPFRs) are emerging pollutants stabilized on or inside particles. Although the toxicity of EPFR-containing particles has been confirmed, the conclusions are always ambiguous because of the presence of various compositions. A clear dose-response relationship was always challenged by the fact that the concentrations of these coexisted components simultaneously changed with EPFR concentrations. Without these solid dose-response pieces of evidence, we could not confidently conclude the toxicity of EPFRs and the description of potential EPFR risks. In this study, we established a particle system with a fixed catechol concentration but different reaction times to obtain particles with different EPFR concentrations. Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) in response to different EPFR concentrations was systematically investigated at multiple biological levels, including behavior observations and biochemical and transcriptome analyses. Our results showed that exposure to EPFRs disrupted the development and locomotion of C. elegans. EPFRs cause concentration-dependent neurotoxicity and oxidative damage to C. elegans, which could be attributed to reactive oxygen species (ROS) promoted by EPFRs. Furthermore, the expression of key genes related to neurons was downregulated, whereas antioxidative genes were upregulated. China is home to the second largest population of children and adolescents in the world. Yet demographic shifts mean that the government must manage the challenge of fewer children with the needs of an ageing population, while considering the delicate tension between economic growth and environmental sustainability. We mapped the health problems and risks of contemporary school-aged children and adolescents in China against current national health policies. We involved multidisciplinary experts, including young people, with the aim of identifying actionable strategies and specific recommendations to promote child and adolescent health and wellbeing. Notwithstanding major improvements in their health over the past few decades, contemporary Chinese children and adolescents face distinct social challenges, including high academic pressures and youth unemployment, and new health concerns including obesity, mental health issues, and sexually transmitted infections. Inequality by gender, geography, and ethnicity remains a feature of health risks and outcomes. We identified a mismatch between current health determinants, risks and outcomes, and government policies. To promote the health of children and adolescents in China, we recommend a set of strategies that target government-led initiatives across the health, education, and community sectors, which aim to build supportive and responsive families, safe communities, and engaging and respectful learning environments. Background: The presence of polyotia in individuals with microtia is a rare deformity. Due to the intricate structure of the auricle, uncertain etiology, and challenging corrective techniques, it has always been a focal point in the field of plastic surgery. The present study presents a technique for correcting the combination of polyotia and microtia by utilizing residual ear tissue as graft material., Methods: The retrospective study included 23 patients with polyotia and microtia from 2018 to 2022. The residual ear tissue was used to rectify auricular deformities in all patients. The patients were instructed to evaluate the satisfaction of the auricle shape using a visual analog scale (VAS) both before and 6 months after the surgical procedure. The esthetic outcomes of auricle subunits were simultaneously assessed by a senior physician pre- and postoperatively., Results: The mean duration of follow-up in this study was 8.73 months. The preoperative VAS satisfaction score was recorded as 2.26 ± 0.86, while the post-operative VAS score significantly increased to 7.86 ± 0.86. The preoperative auricle esthetic outcomes score was recorded as 9.95 ± 1.74, while the post-operative score significantly increased to 24.04 ± 2.16. The follow-up period did not present any cases of flap necrosis, hematoma, infection, or wound dehiscence., Conclusion: The study demonstrates that comprehensive utilization of residual auricular tissue can lead to optimal outcomes in correcting polyotia with concha-type microtia. This study addresses the challenge of platinum-group metal scarcity by exploring the adsorption of these metals from industrial wastewater. An inexpensive adsorbent with selective platinum-group metal adsorption capacity, named chitosan/citric acid@diatomaceous earth-sugarcane bagasse (CTS/CA@DE-SBS), was newly synthesized. The material features a double coating of chitosan and diatomite on bagasse biochar, and it exhibits an excellent adsorption performance for platinum-group metals due to the synergistic effects of the biochar and chitosan-diatomaceous earth intercross-linked coatings. CTS/CA@DE-SBS achieved an 81 % adsorption efficiency and a static saturated adsorption capacity of 217 mg/g for Pt (IV) in water. Notably, the material exhibited selective adsorption properties for platinum-group metals dissolved in diverse aqueous solutions. The potential for the secondary recovery of platinum-group metals in complex aqueous bodies further underscores the significance of this adsorbent.
