Objective: The study aimed to investigate whether mindfulness could mitigate the impact of job and interpersonal demands arising from stressful organizational cultures in predicting depression during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A total of 280 Korean physical therapists participated in this study. To verify the mediated moderation model, this study implemented an SPSS 26.0 PROCESS Macro (v.3.5) that was based on the verification of Hayes' conditional indirect effect. Results: The study confirmed the moderated mediation effect of mindfulness on the mediating relationship between stressful organizational culture, job demands/interpersonal demands, and depression. Moreover, the conditional indirect effect of mindfulness was found to be statistically significant. However, the impact on interpersonal stress differed from anticipated outcomes. Conclusions: Mindfulness, applicable within the framework of the Job Demands-Resources model theory, served as a resource variable and moderated the impact of organizational culture on members' depression. Amidst ongoing debates on mindfulness effectiveness, this study partially confirmed its potential within the Job Demands-Resources model, suggesting a role in mitigating the influence of organizational culture on members' depression as a resource variable.

Objectives: The Neurophysiology of Pain Questionnaire (NPQ) is widely used to assess pain knowledge among clinicians and patients with pain, but an Italian version is not available. This study aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt the NPQ into Italian, to test its psychometric properties, to assess the knowledge of Italian physical therapists (PTs) on pain, and to evaluate which characteristics are associated with pain knowledge., Methods: The NPQ was translated into Italian, integrated with some additional questions (IT-NPQ-New), and sent by email via the Italian Association of Physiotherapy newsletter. Rasch analysis (RA) was used to test the psychometric properties of the Italian versions. Multivariable regression analyses were used to check for associations between participants' characteristics and their NPQ scores., Results: A sample of 753 PTs completed the survey. RA of the NPQ-19 and IT-NPQ-New revealed that 10 (IT-NPQ-10) and 18 (IT-NPQ-18) items fit the model. Both questionnaires showed good psychometric properties. The overall median score among Italian PTs was 6.0 [5.0-7.0] and 11.0 [9.0-13.0] points for the IT-NPQ-10 and the IT-NPQ-18, respectively. These scores were statistically different among groups according to gender, age, years of professional activity, post-graduate specialization and days attended of targeted pain courses, with the latter being the most influential variable., Conclusions: Italian PTs now dispose of two tools to assess their basic knowledge related to pain science. Study Design: A cross-sectional inter-examiner agreement and reliability study on fresh frozen cadaver shoulders., Background: Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSU) is frequently used by physical therapists and radiologists to improve specific diagnosis in rotator cuff related pathology. The evaluation of the rotator cable seems to be important as stabilizing structure when cuff tears occur., Objectives: To evaluate the inter-examiner agreement and reliability of MSU of the shoulder to detect rotator cuff-pathology and the involvement of the rotator cable in comparison to "dissection"., Methods: Physical therapists, a radiologist and an orthopedic surgeon (dissection) investigated 40 fresh frozen cadaver shoulders in order to detect shoulder pathology including rotator cable involvement. Examiners were blinded to each other's findings., Results: We found a strong and significant agreement between the raters: PTs, the radiologist and the dissector in this cadaver study for all rotator cuff, the long head of the biceps pathologies and in detecting abnormalities of the rotator cable. The kappa value was substantial to (almost) perfect agreement for all diagnostic outcome categories., Conclusions: This study shows that among a limited group of physical therapists, one radiologist and a dissector a strong level of agreement with kappa values from substantial to (almost) perfect in finding subacromial pathology., (Copyright © 2022. Background: Clinicians who believe in a strong connection between pain and disability, and who have biomedically oriented beliefs recommend less physical activity, more time off work, and promote unhelpful beliefs in patients. Understanding how these beliefs develop may assist in identifying ways to reduce unhelpful beliefs in clinicians., Objective: To identify factors that are associated with the LBP-related attitudes and beliefs of US-based physical therapists., Design: Cross-sectional design METHOD: An electronic survey was sent to US-based physical therapists. Attitudes and beliefs were measured using the Health Care Providers' Pain and Impairment Relationship Scale (HC-PAIRS) and the Pain Attitudes and Beliefs Scale for Physiotherapists (PABS-PT), pain science knowledge was measured using the Neurophysiology of Pain Questionnaire (NPQ), and professional and demographic information were collected., Results: Completed surveys were obtained from 420 physical therapists. More helpful attitudes and beliefs were associated with board certification in orthopedics or sports, higher NPQ scores, and working in a hospital-based clinic. Less helpful attitudes and beliefs were associated with working in private practice and a personal history of LBP that had a minimum or significant impact on life. The factors included in this study explained 16.8% of the variability in HC-PAIRS scores (p < .001), 13% of the variability in PABS-BM scores (p < .001), and 8.3% of the variability in PABS-BPS scores (p < .001)., Conclusion: Several modifiable and non-modifiable factors are associated with the LBP-related attitudes and beliefs of US physical therapists., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Ltd. Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a common problem that places a major burden on individuals and society. It has been proposed that patients treated by biomedically oriented clinicians will have worse outcomes than those treated by biopsychosocially oriented clinicians., Objective: To investigate the impact of physical therapist LBP related attitudes and beliefs on the outcomes of patients with LBP., Design: Retrospective cohort design., Method: United States based physical therapists utilizing the Focus on Therapeutic Outcomes, Inc. (FOTO) database were surveyed using the Health Care Providers' Pain and Impairment Relationship Scale (HC-PAIRS) and the Pain Attitudes and Beliefs Scale for Physiotherapists (PABS-PT). Outcomes were measured using average Computerized Lumbar Functional Scale change scores (CLFS) and CLFS residual scores., Results: Analysis was performed on outcome data from 78 physical therapist and included 2345 patients. HC-PAIRS was a univariate predictor of average CLFS change scores and average CLFS residual scores. PABS-PT Biomedical subscale was a univariate predictor of average CLFS change scores. After adjusting for confounding variables, higher HC-PAIRS scores and PABS-BM scores were associated with a greater change in average CLFS score, and higher PABS-BM scores were associated with higher CLFS residual scores., Conclusion: Physical therapists who believed in a stronger relationship between pain and disability had improved patient outcomes., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Study Design: Prospective cohort study including patients with shoulder pain in primary care physiotherapy., Background: There is an increased tendency to use diagnostic ultrasound to aid the diagnostic strategy and target treatment. It is a relatively cheap and accessible imaging technique but the implications for practice and patients are unknown., Objectives: To study the influence of diagnostic ultrasound (DUS) on diagnostic work-up, treatment modalities and recovery., Methods: Participants (n = 389) with a new episode of shoulder pain were assessed at baseline and followed for 6, 12 and 26 weeks. Diagnostic work-up, including the use of DUS, and treatment strategies were reported by the therapists at 3, 6 and 12 weeks., Results: Most patients (41%) were diagnosed with subacromial impingement/pain syndrome after physical examination or DUS. DUS was used in 31% of the participants. Tendinopathy was the most found abnormality in this sub-population. Patients who underwent DUS were more frequently treated using exercise therapy. Patients that not had DUS were more likely to receive massage therapy, trigger point therapy or mobilisation techniques. Logistic regression analyses did not show a significant association between DUS and recovery after 26 weeks (0.88, 95%CI:0.50-1.57). Correcting for the therapist as a confounder using a multilevel binary logistic regression did not show a significant cluster effect., Conclusion: Diagnostic US as a work-up component does not seem to influence diagnosis or recovery but does influence the choice of treatment modality. Physical therapists (PTs) are required to obtain an accurate understanding of the physical and mental states of their patients through observational assessment. To perform comprehensive observational assessments of patients' movements, PTs likely need to engage their own neural systems involved in action understanding and theory of mind, such as the action observation network (AON) and the right temporoparietal junction (rTPJ). Both systems are modulated by the observer's actual experience with the observed movements. Although, most PTs do not have physical experience with neurological disabilities, they routinely examine hemiplegic movements in stroke patients, and are thus considered to have acquired pseudoexperience with hemiplegia. We hypothesized that the PTs' pseudoexperience with hemiplegia would modulate the neural system associated with the understanding of others to elaborately comprehend the physical and mental states associated with hemiplegia. To investigate our hypothesis, we recruited 19 PTs and 19 naïve participants (NPs) to undergo functional MRI (fMRI) for cortical activity measurement while viewing videos of hemiplegic (HHM) and non-hemiplegic (non-HHM) hand movements. The participants subsequently viewed the same videos again outside the MRI scanner, and evaluated the observed hand movements via a questionnaire. Compared to the NPs, the PTs showed greater activation in the AON and rTPJ while observing HHMs. Psychophysiological interaction analyses revealed increased connectivity between the rTPJ and AON when the PTs viewed the HHMs. Behavioral analyses further indicated that the PTs more accurately assessed feeling states associated with HHMs than did NPs. These findings suggest that the PTs' pseudoexperience modulates the AON and rTPJ, enabling them to better understand hemiplegia-associated feeling states., (Copyright © 2019 The Authors.
