The goal of the current research was to establisha quick and practical fluorimetric technique for fingolimod analysis. The approach relied on the drug's complex formation with the zinc ion to produce a high-fluorescence product. The fluorescence was further enhanced by adding sodium dodecyl sulfate, and it was observed at 325 nm following excitation at 475 nm. With a correlation coefficient of 0.9999, the association between emission intensity and fingolimod concentration was linear between 5 and 150 ng mL-1. The quantitation limit was 2.059 ng mL-1,while the detection limit was 0.679 ng mL-1. The buffer type, pH and concentration, type of surfactant and concentration, and finally the diluting solvent were among the reaction conditions that were closely examined. With great precision and reliability, the drug in question was quantified using this method in both spiked human plasma and capsule formulations. The proposed method's level of greenness was assessed using two methodologies: the analytical greenness metric (AGREE) and the Green Analytical Procedure Index (GAPI).

In this study, the sodium dodecyl sulfate intercalated modified magnesium-aluminum hydrotalcite/sodium alginate/sodium carboxymethylcellulose (modified LDHs/SA/CMC) composite gel spheres were synthesized and their efficacies in adsorbing the cationic dye rhodamine B (RhB) from aqueous solutions were evaluated. The effects of adsorption time, pH and temperature on the adsorption of RhB by spheres were investigated. Remarkably, the modified LDHs/SA/CMC gel spheres achieved adsorption equilibrium after 600 min at 25 °C, and the removal rate of RhB at 60 mg/L reached 91.49 % with the maximum adsorption capacity of 59.64 mg/g. The gel spheres maintained over 80 % efficacy across four adsorption cycles. Kinetic and isotherm analyses revealed that the adsorption of RhB conformed to the secondary kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm, indicating a spontaneous and exothermic nature of the adsorption process. The adsorption mechanisms of modified LDHs/SA/CMC gel spheres on RhB dyes include electrostatic adsorption, hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions. In conclusion, modified LDHs/SA/CMC gel sphere is a green, simple, recyclable and efficient adsorbent, which is expected to be widely used for the treatment of cationic dye wastewater.

The conductive potential of nano carbon black (NCB) in cement paste is restricted due to its tendency to agglomerate. To address this issue, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is proposed as a dispersant to enhance the performance of the nano carbon black-filled cement paste. Additionally, the microstructure characteristics of the nano carbon black-filled cement paste with SDS are explored systematically from the perspective of micromorphology, hydration degree and pore structure. UV–Vis spectrophotometry (UV–Vis) proves that SDS can enhance the dispersion of NCB in suspensions. Adding 0.4% SDS to the nano carbon black-filled cement paste can effectively improve the fluidity, accelerate the setting time, decrease the resistivity and increase mechanical strength. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) reveal that SDS adsorbed on the surface of NCB plays a dispersing role in cement paste. Thermogravimetry (TG) indicates that well-dispersed NCB promotes the hydration of cement clinker, accelerates the formation of calcium silicate hydrates (C–S–H) and increases the content of Ca(OH)2. N2 adsorption-desorption (NAD) verifies that the accumulated hydration products effectively increase the specific surface area and decrease the total pore volume, indicating that SDS has a positive effect on optimizing the pore structure of the nano carbon black-filled cement paste.

This research incorporated nano TiO2 and ZrO2 particles into the NiP electroless bath to produce NiP-TiO2-ZrO2 composite deposits on magnesium AZ91D substrates. The impact of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) (anionic surfactant) was utilized for deposition to minimize the agglomeration and clustering of particles in the electroless bath. Surface properties such as atomic force microscopy, energy dispersive X-Ray analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction are used to evaluate the surface morphologies of coating, surface roughness, elementary composition, and crystalline structure of the deposits. Furthermore, the impact of SDS surfactant on the corrosion properties of deposits was also studied using potentiodynamic polarization in a 5 wt% NaCl solution. The overall results reveal that incorporating anionic surfactant SDS at the optimum concentration of 1.5 g/L (CMC value) improved wettability, deposition rate, and surface roughness compared to the deposits developed without surfactant. The proposed mechanism is that the molecules of SDS surfactant could come into contact with the surface of NiP-TiO2-ZrO2 composite coating in the bath, increasing nanoparticle dispersion and resulting in a uniform coating. Furthermore, the electrochemical results show improved corrosion protection efficiency (PE%) of NiP-TiO2-ZrO2 composite coatings by increasing the concentration of SDS surfactant, achieving ∼87.9% at (1.5 g/L) CMC value.

Bepotastine (BPT), a second-generation antihistamine used for treating allergic rhinitis and pruritus, requires precise dosage calculation and accurate measurement in aqueous humor to ensure therapeutic efficacy and avoid adverse effects. This study presents a highly sensitive, cost-effective, readily-implementable, and ecologically sustainable method to detect BPT by enhancing its weak native fluorescence. This has been achieved by switching off the intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer (PET) process through phosphoric acid-induced protonation of the nitrogen in the piperidinyl ring. Further fluorescence enhancement was achieved by incorporating a solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) surfactant thus increasing the quantum yield of BPT up to 10 folds. Fluorescence intensity was measured at 425 nm following excitation at 265 nm. The method, validated according to ICH guidelines, demonstrated linearity over the range of 0.70-6.0 µg/mL with a correlation coefficient of 0.9972 and a low detection limit of 0.046 µg/mL. It was successfully applied to measure BPT in aqueous humor and eye drops with % recoveries between 97.59 % and 102.62 %. Sodium dodecyl sulfate capillary gel electrophoresis (SDS-CGE) is a frequently used analytical technique in size-based separation of proteins, playing a vital role in the biopharmaceutical industry for the analysis and characterization of therapeutic proteins, employing both UV and fluorescent detection. Understanding the effect of the operational parameters using easily applicable in migratio fluorescent labeling is increasingly critical, especially because multicapillary electrophoresis systems with fluorescent detection have recently gained prominence in high-throughput biopolymer analysis. In this study, the effects of the three most important user-adjustable operational parameters (temperature, gel concentration, and electric field strength) were investigated on the electrophoretic mobility and resolution of SDS-protein complexes in the presence of propidium iodide in the gel-buffer system. In the separation temperature study, the Arrhenius equation was applied to calculate the required activation energy for the electromigration through the propidium iodide-containing separation matrix for the sample proteins. With increasing gel concentration, the presence of the fluorophore in the gel-buffer system resulted in linear Ferguson plots, suggesting more predictable and consistent sieving behavior, in contrast to the non-linear plots observed earlier without the addition of the fluorescent dye. Finally, increase in the applied electric field resulted in elevated electrophoretic mobilities, both in the presence and absence of propidium ions in the sieving matrix. The resolution between the consecutively migrating SDS-protein complexes, on the other hand, decreased above 500 V/cm, probably due to conformation changes caused by the high field strengths. Ameliorating the problem of low leaching efficiency, long leaching period, and high agent consumption should be studied to efficiently exploit ion-absorbed rare earth ore resources. In this study, the surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is used to enhance the leaching effect of an ion-absorbed rare earth ore by ameliorating the seepage effect for the first time. The effects of surfactant concentration, leaching agent dosage, solution flow velocity, and solution pH on the leaching rate were explored, and the mechanism of SDS was discussed. Under the optimum conditions, the addition of a small amount of SDS (mass fraction 0.04%) can increase the leaching rate by about 5%, shorten the leaching period, and reduce the consumption of the leaching agent. SDS significantly ameliorates the seepage effect of the ore body by reducing the surface tension of the leaching agent and ameliorating the wettability of the mineral surface. This effect is the main factor that improves the leaching efficiency. DFT (density functional theory) calculation results show that SDS can react with rare earth ions, which reduces the adsorption strength on clay mineral surfaces. Hence, rare earth ions are easily exchanged by ammonium ions, and mass transfer is enhanced.

The interaction of cationic methylene blue (MB) dye with binary micellar systems of non-ionic Pluronic®L-81 containing anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) or cationic cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactants were probed through conductivity, uv-visible, FTIR, DLS, and zeta potential measurements with an objective to identify better solubilizing system at room temperature. The CMC of both SDS and CTAB was lowered in MB+L-81+SDS or CTAB systems. The absorption spectrum of MB showed a slight blue-shift with enhanced intensity upon increasing the concentration of anionic SDS and cationic CTAB, reflecting the strong electrostatic interaction and formation of micelles due to the solubilization of MB by L-81+SDS/CTAB systems. The higher negative value of ΔGm for L-81+SDS (-24.18 kJ/mol) than L-81+CTAB, (-17.07 kJ/mol) indicated better stability of MB in SDS system than CTAB. This could be attributed to the electrostatic attraction between dissimilarly charged MB (cationic) and SDS (anionic) in the ternary (MB+L-81+SDS) system and repulsive steric interaction between positively charged MB and CTAB. This was confirmed from micellar size analysis using dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements and binding constant values. The estimated CMC values were comparable with the literature data. Hence, based on these results we propose that L-81+SDS binary system can be applied as a potential medium for removal of MB from the industrial effluents.

The determination of azathioprine (AZA), a mercaptopurine derivative, has attracted a particular attention in most researches. Herein, spectrofluorometric (I) and chemiluminescence (II) methods were successfully confirmed to estimate azathioprine (AZA) in bulk powder form and pharmaceutical preparation. The optimum conditions to improve the fluorescence and chemiluminescence intensity of AZA were investigated. The method (I) measured the native fluorescence intensity of AZA in methanol as solvent, without any addition. The micelle-enhanced fluorescence of AZA was affected by the surfactant addition, type of solvent, pH value, and the volume of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The method (II) consisted in the improvement of the weak signal of calcein–KMnO4 chemiluminescence system by introducing synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in the presence of AZA. The analytical curves were linear in the concentrations range 5.0 × 10−8 − 1.0 × 10−4 M and 5.0 × 10−9 − 2.0 × 10−3 M with a detection limit equal to 1.5 × 10−9 M and 2.6 × 10 −10 M for techniques (I) and (II), respectively. The statistical analysis indicated no significant difference between the proposed and reported methods. The suggested techniques were successfully used to determine azathioprine in its tablet form and were validated according to ICH guidelines.

Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), an anionic surfactant used in many cleaning and hygiene products, is known for its dermal and respiratory toxicity. However, how this surfactant influences the iron dynamics within the body and the mechanism is unknown. We explored the interaction between SDS and human transferrin (HTF), focusing on the effects on iron-binding capacity and structural changes. Results revealed that SDS exposure led to a significant release of iron from HTF in a dose-dependent manner, changing its structure and reducing the iron-binding ability. Spectroscopic analyses showed that the protein secondary structure and skeleton, as well as the micro-environment of aromatic amino acids of HTF, were destroyed after SDS binding. Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) results (ΔG, ΔS, and ΔH were -40.1 kcal·mol -1 , 0.16 kcal·mol -1 ·K -1 , and 10.1 kcal·mol -1 , respectively) indicated a spontaneous and hydrophobic interaction with one strong binding site. Molecular docking identified the preferred binding sites, emphasizing hydrophobic forces (with the hydrophobic tail) and hydrogen bonds (with the hydrophilic head) as the primary driving forces, which aligns with the ITC results. The molecular interaction of low-molecular-weight SPP with common surfactants (SDS and DTAB) is a more complicated process than has been long believed. In this work, the interaction mechanism between SDS/DTAB and SPP was proposed using multiple methods including conductivity measurements, ST, UV-vis, FT-IR, DLS, fluorescence spectroscopy, and molecular docking simulations. Moreover, the foaming properties of the mixed systems were studied, and they were evaluated as cosmetics preservatives. The effects of various surfactant and protein concentrations and ratios on compatibility and functionality were studied. Based on the results, the mechanism of complex formation was identified as a cooperative van der Waals interaction followed by hydrophobic interaction and hydrogen bonding. A simpler head group leads to easier aggregation and interaction with the SPP, the formation of smaller-sized complexes, and a weaker impact on the fluorescence intensity. Thus, SDS monomers easily aggregate on SPP chains, leading to a stronger influence on the final secondary structure of SPP. This was confirmed by multiple spectroscopy methods. Comparing its single surfactant system, the SDS-SPP solution demonstrates better foaming power and the DTAB-SPP solution shows higher bacteriostatic activity. The good compatibility between SDS/DTAB and SPP can improve the functional properties of SDS or DTAB as well as lower the optimal concentration of each component. Sustainable and environmentally friendly cellulose nanofiber (CNF) has unique advantages and properties for preparing porous materials for various applications. This study reports a CNF foam developed via an environmentally friendly, expeditious and cost-effective process using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and citric acid (CA) as an anionic surfactant and a bio-based green crosslinker. Incorporating 0.5 wt% SDS into CA-crosslinked CNF foam significantly enhances its porous structure, indicating the highest porosity (>99.24 %) and a very low density (18.59 mg/cm 3 ). The performance improvement is attributed to the formation of robust ester bonds through chemical crosslinking, which stabilizes the foam's microstructure and enhances its mechanical strength. Additionally, the SDS facilitates better foaming and reduces surface tension, promoting uniform distribution of pores. The foam shows better mechanical properties and antioxidant behavior than the neat CNF foam. Moreover, adding SDS into the CA-crosslinked NC foam exhibits lower thermal conductivity (0.029 W/mK) and diffusivity than commercial insulation foams, including polyurethane foam. Fungal lipolytic enzymes play crucial roles in various lipid bio-industry processes. Here, we elucidated the biochemical and structural characteristics of an unexplored fungal lipolytic enzyme (TaLip) from Thermoascus aurantiacus var. levisporus, a strain renowned for its significant industrial relevance in carbohydrate-active enzyme production. TaLip belongs to a poorly understood phylogenetic branch within the class 3 lipase family and prefers to hydrolyze mainly short-chain esters. Nonetheless, it also displays activity against natural long-chain triacylglycerols. Furthermore, our analyses revealed that the surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) enhances the hydrolytic activity of TaLip on pNP butyrate by up to 5.0-fold. Biophysical studies suggest that interactions with SDS may prevent TaLip aggregation, thereby preserving the integrity and stability of its monomeric form and improving its performance. Monitoring bovine serum albumin (BSA) at ultra-low levels is crucial for clinical and food safety applications, as it plays a significant role in identifying various health conditions and potential risks, necessitating fast, trace-level detection of BSA. This study proposes an approach to address these challenges by employing molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) to develop an ultra-trace-level and cost-effective BSA sensing platform. The MIP electrochemical sensor was developed using polyaniline (PANI) combined with the protein crosslinker glutaraldehyde (GA) to optimize BSA surface imprinting in the MIP. As a result, the sensor achieves a sensitivity of 1.24 μA/log(pg/mL), with a picomolar detectable limit of 2.3 pg/mL (0.035 pM) and a wide detection range from 20 pg/mL to 200,000 pg/mL (0.303 pM to 3030 pM), making it suitable for clinical and food safety applications. Additionally, the study explores the interaction between an acidic surfactant protein eluent (acetic acid with sodium dodecyl sulfate, AcOH-SDS) and BSA vacant sites, enhancing recognition and re-binding. Contamination by organic and inorganic compounds remains one of the most complex problems in both brackish and marine environments, causing potential implications for the reproductive success and survival of several broadcast spawners. Ficopomatus enigmaticus is a tubeworm polychaete that has previously been used as a model organism for ecotoxicological analysis, due to its sensitivity and ecological relevance. In the present study, the effects of five trace elements (zinc, copper, cadmium, arsenic and lead), one surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) and one polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (benzo(a)pyrene, B(a)P) on the sperm quality of F. enigmaticus were investigated. Sperm suspensions were exposed in vitro to different concentrations of each selected contaminant under four salinity conditions (10, 20, 30, 35). Possible adverse effects on sperm function were assessed by measuring oxidative stress, membrane integrity, viability and DNA damage. Sperm quality impairments induced by organic contaminants were more evident than those induced by inorganic compounds. SDS exerted the largest effect on sperm. In addition, F. enigmaticus sperm showed high tolerance to salinity variation, supporting the wide use of this species as a promising model organism for ecotoxicological assays. Easy and rapid methods on polychaete spermatozoids were shown to be effective as integrated sperm quality parameters or as an alternative analysis for early assessment of marine and brackish water pollution.

The removal of n-hexadecane from soil in two-dimensional (vertical) setups was investigated using electrokinetics (EK), hydraulic gradient (HG), and anionic surfactant SDS (Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate) and nonionic surfactant Tween 80. The investigation relied on creating a two-dimensional block containing 3 × 3 cells each 3 cm in dimension. The soils in the blocks were created by mixing loamy sand soil (LSS) with kaolinite (clay) at three proportions: 100% LSS + 0% clay, 95% LSS + 5% clay and 90% LSS + 10% clay. This approach is very different from existing approaches where heterogeneity is layered. The surfactant concentration exhibited a large variability in space, including in the sand around the soil which highlights the limitations of one-dimensional investigations. In general, HG delivered surfactant more uniformly in the sand, but not in the soil. The performance of Tween 80 with EK was slightly higher than that of SDS, as the removal was 64% to 51%, respectively; and was better than SDS when HG was used, 65% to 46%. Another set of experiments was conducted using one cell made of 20% LSS + 80% clay with Tween 80. The EK provided a much higher removal efficiency (77%) than HG (43%), which indicates that EK performs better than HG for clayey soils. Overall, the study indicates that for both anionic and nonionic surfactant, the removal of n-hexadecane using EK was comparable to or better than HG, and that EK is capable of delivering the surfactants in two-dimensional systems.

Herein, we have employed a supramolecular assembly of a cationic dye, LDS-698 and a common surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as a turn-on fluorescent sensor for protamine (Pr) detection. Addition of cationic Pr to the solution of dye-surfactant complex brings negatively charged SDS molecules together through strong electrostatic interaction, assisting aggregation of SDS way before its critical micellar concentration (CMC). These aggregates encapsulate the dye molecules within their hydrophobic region, arresting non-radiative decay channels of the excited dye. Thus, the LDS-698•SDS assembly displays substantial enhancement in fluorescence intensity that follows a nice linear trend with Pr concentration, providing limit of detection (LOD) for Pr as low as 3.84(±0.11) nM in buffer, 124.4(±6.7) nM in 1% human serum and 28.3(±0.5) nM in 100% human urine. Furthermore, high selectivity, low background signal, large stokes shift, and emission in the biologically favorable deep-red region make the studied assembly a promising platform for Pr sensing. As of our knowledge it is the first ever Pr sensory platform, using a very common surfactant (SDS), which is economically affordable and very easily available in the market. Rhodamine derivatives possessing spiroring-closing structures exhibit colorlessness, while the induction of spiroring-opening by metal ions results in notable color changes, rendering them as ideal platform for the development of functional probes with broad applications. However, the spiroring-closing form of rhodamine-based probes exhibits limited water solubility due to its neutral character, necessitating the incorporation of organic solvents to enhance solubility, which may adversely affect the natural system. Designing rhodamine probes with high solubility in both the zwitterionic and neutral form is of utmost importance and presents a significant challenge. This study presents a sulfone-rhodamine-based probe that exhibits good water solubility both in the spiroring opening and closing for detecting Hg 2+ . Upon the presence of Hg 2+ , the color undergoes a noticeable change from colorless to pink, with a response time of less than 1 min. probe 1 demonstrates an excellent linear relationship with Hg 2+ concentrations within the range of 0-8 μM, and achieves a detection limit is 17.26 nM. The effectiveness of probe 1 was confirmed through the analysis of mercury ions in cosmetic products. Tolterodine tartrate (TTD) was the first antimuscarinic medication developed exclusively for the treatment of overactive bladder syndrome and was approved by the FDA in 1998. As a result of the drug's extensive utilization within the local community following its authorization, there is a pressing need to develop and validate a spectrofluorometric method that is economically efficient, easily reproducible, environmentally sustainable, and possesses high sensitivity. The developed approach relies on enhancing the fluorescence intensity of TTD to reach a level 720 % higher than its initial value, achieved through the application of an aqueous sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) solution. A strong correlation was observed with a correlation coefficient of 0.9998 between the concentration of TTD and the fluorescence intensity within the range of 25.0-500.0 ng mL -1 . This approach could be employed to quantify TTD in its pure form and to examine pharmaceutical tablets for the purposes of verifying uniform content. An accurate, fast, and simple surfactant detection method is of great significance for monitoring surfactants pollution. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is one of the most commonly used anionic surfactants and has been listed as an important monitoring pollutant for surfactant residues. Herein, a novel fluorescent probe named TPE-4 + with four amidines as the recognition functional group and tetraphenylethene as the fluorophore was fabricated. Due to the special intramolecular environment, the probe showed selectively identification towards SDS which made an aggregation induced fluorescence enhencement. The present work demonstrates a novel strategy of synthesizing iron-biochar (Fe@BC SB ) composite made with the waste iron bottle cap and sugar cane bagasse for implementation in the three-dimensional electro-Fenton (3DEF) process. The catalytic ability of the Fe@BC SB composite was explored to remediate the sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) surfactant from wastewater at neutral pH. At the optimum operating condition of Fe@BC SB dose of 1.0 g L -1 , current density of 4.66 mA cm -2 , and Na 2 SO 4 dose of 50 mM, nearly 92.7 ± 3.1% of 20 mg L -1 of SDS abatement was attained during 120 min of electrolysis time. Moreover, the Fe@BC SB showed significant recyclability up to six cycles. Besides, other organics were successfully treated with more than 85% abatement efficiency in the proposed Fe@BC SB -supported 3DEF process. The total operating cost obtained during SDS treatment was around 0.31 US$ m -3 of wastewater. The phytotoxicity test revealed the positive impact of the 3DEF-treated effluent on the germination of the Vigna radiata. The electron paramagnetic resonance conveyed • OH as the prevailing reactive species for the oxidation of SDS in the 3DEF process. Study the effects of three novel synthesized biologically deep eutectic solvents (DESs) on the micellar characteristics of anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The biologically active amino acids based three DESs synthesized have composed the 2:1 M of L-Aspartic acid (DES1), L-Tyrosine (DES2), L-Glutamine (DES3) and choline chloride, furthermore which characterized by FTIR. Surface tension, viscosity, UV-visible, fluorescence, and FTIR spectroscopy are a few of the techniques used to study the interactions of SDS within 5 and 10 wt% of three novel biological DESs in aqueous solutions. The presence and absence of 5 and 10 wt% of the three novel biological DESs in an aqueous solution is used to study the critical micelle concentration (CMC) and various interfacial characteristics including CMC, the efficiency of adsorption, the maximum surface excess concentration, the packing parameter, the minimum area per molecule, and the surface pressure at CMC, is assessed by the surface tension method. The calculated fluorescence data and those obtained using surface tension and UV-visible methods correspond well. The interactions that cause changes in the structure of the surfactant self-assemblies within aqueous DESs were investigated using FTIR technique. It is significant to highlight that the presence of unique biological DESs considerably facilitates the micellization process for SDS and the extent is more affinity for DES2 compared to DES1/DES3. This study describes the enhancement of the weak native fluorescence of loratadine (LOR) by dual strategy via photoinduced electron transfer (PET) blocking followed by micellization into sodium dodecyl sulfate micelles. The enhanced fluorescence was employed as a basis for the development of a novel microwell spectrofluorimetric assay (MW-SFA) for the determination of LOR in its pharmaceutical dosage forms and urine samples. The assay was conducted in 96-microwell assay plates, and the enhanced fluorescence signals were measured by a microplate reader at 290 and 435 nm for excitation and emission, respectively. The optimum conditions of the assay were established, calibration curve was generated, and the linear regression equation was computed. The relation between the fluorescence signals and LOR concentrations was linear with good determination coefficients (0.9992) in the range of 10 - 2000 ng mL -1 . The assay limits of detection and quantitation were 4.1 and 12.5 ng mL -1 , respectively. The precision was satisfactory, with values of relative standard deviation not exceeding 1.68%, and the assay's accuracy was ≥ 99.1%. The proposed was successfully applied to the analysis of LOR in its pharmaceutical dosage forms with acceptable accuracy and precision. The label claims were 99.3 - 100.5% (±0.95 - 1.59%). Statistical analysis comparing the results of the proposed assay with those obtained by a reported pre-validated assay revealed no significant difference between both methods in terms of the accuracy and precision at the 95% confidence level. The assay was also applied to the analysis of urine samples containing LOR with accuracy ≥ 98.24%. The greenness of the proposed assay was confirmed by three efficient metric tools. In overall conclusion, the proposed assay is characterized by high sensitivity, procedure simplicity, and high throughput, enabling the simultaneous analysis of many samples in a short time. Because of the heterogeneity among seedlings of outbreeding species, the use of seedling tissues as a source of DNA is unsuitable for the genomic characterization of elite germplasms. High-quality DNA, free of RNA, proteins, polysaccharides, secondary metabolites, and shearing, is mandatory for downstream molecular biology applications, especially for next-generation genome sequencing and pangenome analysis aiming to capture the complete genetic diversity within a species. The study aimed to accomplish an efficient protocol for the extraction of high-quality DNA suitable for diverse plant species/tissues. We describe a reliable, and consistent protocol suitable for the extraction of DNA from 42 difficult-to-extract plant species belonging to 33 angiosperm (monocot and dicot) families, including tissues such as seeds, roots, endosperm, and flower/fruit tissues. The protocol was first optimized for the outbreeding recalcitrant trees viz., Prosopis cineraria, Conocarpus erectus, and Phoenix dactylifera, which are rich in proteins, polysaccharides, and secondary metabolites, and the quality of the extracted DNA was confirmed by downstream applications. Nine procedures were attempted to extract high-quality, impurities-free DNA from these three plant species. Extraction of the ethanol-precipitated DNA from cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) protocol using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) buffer, i.e., the extraction using a cationic (CTAB) detergent followed by an anionic (SDS) detergent was the key for high yield and high purity (1.75-1.85 against A 260/280 and an A 260/230 ratio of >2) DNA. A vice versa extraction procedure, i.e., SDS buffer followed by CTAB buffer, and also CTAB buffer followed by CTAB, did not yield good-quality DNA. PCR (using different primers) and restriction endonuclease digestion of the DNA extracted from these three plants validated the protocol. The accomplishment of the genome of P. cineraria using the DNA extracted using the modified protocol confirmed its applicability to genomic studies. Background: Rhizoctonia solani (teleomorph: Thanatephorus cucumeris) is one of the most important pathogens of rice (Oryza sativa L.) that causes severe yield losses in all rice-growing regions. Sclerotia, formed from the aggregation of hyphae, are important structures in the life cycles of R. solani and contain a large quantity of polysaccharides, lipids, proteins and pigments. In order to extract high-quality total RNA from the sclerotia of R. solani, five methods, including E.Z.N.A.™ Fungal RNA Kit, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)–sodium borate, SDS–polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), guanidinium thiocyanate (GTC) and modified Trizol, were compared in this study. Results: The electrophoresis results showed that it failed to extract total RNA from the sclerotia using modified Trizol method, whereas it could extract total RNA from the sclerotia using other four methods. Further experiments confirmed that the total RNA extracted using SDS–sodium borate, SDS–PVP and E.Z.N.A.™ Fungal RNA Kit methods could be used for RT-PCR of the specific amplification of GAPDH gene fragments, and that extracted using GTC method did not fulfill the requirement for above-mentioned RT-PCR experiment. Conclusion: It is concluded that SDS–sodium borate and SDS–PVP methods were the better ones for the extraction of high-quality total RNA that could be used for future gene cloning and expression studies, whereas E.Z.N.A.™ Fungal RNA Kit was not taken into consideration when deal with a large quantity of samples because it is expensive and relatively low yield.

Polydimethyl glutarimide (PMGI) layers with sub-micron thicknesses have been modified in a 2.5 kV Ar plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII) process to introduce free radical covalent binding sites. The surface roughness of the PMGI increased after the PIII treatment but no through-layer defects were observed. When applied to the treated PMGI, horseradish peroxidase (HRP) enzyme remained bound to the surface after extended immersion in sodium dodecyl sulfate solution (SDS). Hence, covalent binding between the activated surface and enzyme was confirmed. This covalent binding was achieved up to 24-h after the PIII process. The treated PMGI was then incorporated as a gate dielectric layer within a lateral three-terminal electrolyte-gated device. The device output characteristics resembled those of post-synaptic outputs; as successive (pre-synaptic) voltage pulses were applied to the gate, paired pulse depression and spike rate dependent plasticity were observed in the source-drain (post-synaptic) current. These characteristics were altered by the presence of HRP immobilised on the plasma-modified PMGI gate dielectric layer thus providing readout detection. In this research, the potential of Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) for efficient removal of methyl violet as a cationic dye from aqueous solutions was investigated. For this purpose, Fe3O4 MNPs were synthesized via chemical precipitation method. The synthesized MNPs were characterized by XRD and SEM techniques. To remove methyl violet, the surface of the MNPs was modified with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as an anionic surfactant. Also, the various parameters affecting dye removal were investigated and optimized. The kinetic studies for methyl violet adsorption showed rapid sorption dynamics by a second-order kinetic model, suggesting chemisorption mechanism. Dye adsorption equilibrium data were fitted well to the Langmuir isotherm rather than Freundlich isotherm. The maximum monolayer capacity, (qmax), was calculated from the Langmuir as 416.7 mg g−1. The results show that, SDS-coated magnetic nanoparticles, can be used as a cheap and efficient adsorbent for removal of cationic dyes from aqueous solutions.

Protein electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gels in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS-PAGE) is one of the most commonly performed procedures in biochemical laboratories. It requires the use of molecular weight (MW) markers as an internal technical control and to determine the migration rate of a particular protein. This paper describes an inclusive biophysical study elucidating the interaction of therapeutic drug azithromycin (Azith) with hen egg white lysozyme (HEWL). Spectroscopic and computational tools have been employed to study the interaction of Azith with HEWL at pH 7.4. The fluorescence quenching constant values (Ksv) exhibited a decrease with the increase in temperature which revealed the occurrence of static quenching mechanism between Azith and HEWL. The thermodynamic data demonstrated that hydrophobic interactions were predominantly involved in the Azith-HEWL interaction. The negative value of standard Gibbs free energy (ΔG°) stated that the Azith-HEWL complex formed via spontaneous molecular interactions. The effect of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) surfactant monomers on the binding propensity of Azith with HEWL was insignificant at lower concentrations however the binding significantly decreased at increased concentrations of the former. Far-UV CD data revealed alteration in the secondary structure of HEWL in the presence of Azith and the overall HEWL conformation changed. A method based on micellar liquid chromatography has been developed to determine rosuvastatin, lovastatin and simvastatin in oral solid dosage forms. Samples were solved in mobile phase up to the target concentration, filtered and directly injected. The three statins were resolved in 30 min, using an aqueous solution of 0.10 M sodium dodecyl sulfate - 7.0% 1-butanol, buffered at pH 3 with 0.01 M phosphate salt as mobile phase, running under isocratic mode at 1 mL/min through a C 18 column. Detection was at 240 nm. The effect of sodium dodecyl sulfate on elution strength was more important than that of the organic solvent. The procedure was successfully validated by the guidelines of the International Council for Harmonization in terms of: specificity, linearity (r 2 > 0.990), calibration range (1.5 - 15 mg/L for rosuvastatin, 0.5-10 mg/L for lovastatin and simvastatin), limit of detection (0.4, 0.2 and 0.15 mg/L for rosuvastatin, lovastatin and simvastatin, respectively), trueness (98.8-101.7%), precision (<2.7%), carry-over effect, robustness, and stability. Values were inside the acceptance criteria of the Methods, Method Verification and Validation, Food and Drug Administration-Office of Regulatory Affairs, thus ensuring the reliability of the results. The main feature was the low proportion of organic solvent used, thus making the procedure sustainable and green. Besides, it was easy-to-conduct and with high sample-throughput, and then useful for routine analysis in pharmaceutical quality control. Background: The eradication of C. albicans is difficult due to the organization of the yeast in biofilms. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been proposed as an alternative to antifungals. Phenothiazinium dyes, e.g. methylene blue (MB), have been proposed as photosensitizing agents (PS), and their association with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) has recently been shown to improve the effectiveness of PDT in planktonic culture. In this sense, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of PDT with phenothiazinium dyes associated to SDS in biofilms at the different stages of growth., Methods: Experiments were carried out to evaluate the effects of PDT on biofilm formation and on established biofilms of C. albicans ATCC 10231. Samples were exposed to PS 50 mg/L (MB, Azure A - AA, Azure B - AB and dimethyl methylene blue - DMMB) dissolved in water or 0.25% SDS, for 5 min in the dark. After irradiation at 660 nm, 37.3mW/cm 2 for 27 min, 60.4J/cm 2 colony forming units count assay (CFU/mL) was performed. One or two irradiations were applied. Statistical methods were used to assess effectiveness., Results: PSs showed low toxicity in the dark. An application of PDT irradiation was not able to reduce the CFU/mL both in mature biofilms (24h) and in biofilms in the dispersion phase (48h), only in the adherence phase did PDT prevent the formation of biofilms. With two successive applications of PDT irradiation in the dispersion phase, PDT with MB, AA, and DMMB completely inactivated C. albicans. The similar was not observed with mature biofilms., Conclusions: Different stages of biofilm growth respond differently to PDT, with the greatest inhibitory effect found in the adhesion stage. Mature and dispersed biofilms are less susceptible to PDT. Alfuzosin hydrochloride (AZH) is co-formulated with solifenacin succinate (SOS) in Solitral® capsules for treating prostate hyperplasia in patients with overactive bladder syndrome. Herein and for the first time, an ultrasensitive synchronous spectrofluorimetric approach coupled with first-order derivative signal processing was designed for simultaneous determination of AZH and SOS in their pure forms, newly-released pharmaceutical capsules, and human biological fluids. AZH and SOS showed their conventional emission spectra in bi-distilled water at 382 nm and 294 nm after excitation at 325 nm and 250 nm, respectively. The native fluorescence intensities of AZH and SOS were greatly enhanced through micellar formation using sodium dodecyl sulfate surfactant (2%). The proposed approach included the use of synchronous mode at Δλ of 60 nm where the overlap between the studied analytes' fluorescence spectra wasn't completely resolved. The complete resolution was achieved by derivatization of the synchronized spectra to the first-order yielding two zero-crossing points which allowed the determination of AZH and SOS simultaneously without interference at 408 nm and 321 nm, respectively. Under optimum experimental circumstances, good linearities were accomplished over the concentration ranges of (1-24) ng/mL and (4-250) ng/mL with LOD of 0.26 ng/mL and 1.31 ng/mL for AZH and SOS, respectively. The proposed approach was validated successfully according to guidelines adopted by the ICH and compared statistically with the reported LC method with no discernible differences concerning accuracy or precision at p = 0.05. Successful application of the proposed approach achieved with excellent recovery percentages for analysis of the studied analytes in different matrices (pharmaceutical capsules and biological fluids) confirms its suitability for use in QC laboratories and other bioanalytical applications. The proposed approach's greenness was evaluated using two tools namely; penalty points scoring system and green analytical procedure index (GAPI) divulging excellent greenness of this approach relative to the reported LC method. The purpose of the present work was to establish a fast and convenient strategy for lomefloxacin analysis using a fluorimetric approach. The methodology was based on the complex formation of the drug with aluminum ion to give a product having high fluorescence. Adding sodium dodecyl sulfate led to further boosting the intensity of fluorescence which was recorded at 429 nm after excitation at 332 nm. The relationship of emission intensity with lomefloxacin concentration was linear at 10-130 ng mL -1 with a correlation coefficient of 0.9996. The quantitation limit was 11.4 ng mL -1 and detection limit was 3.8 ng mL -1 . The reaction conditions were carefully studied which included the pH, buffer type, its concentration, the type and concentration of surfactant and the diluting solvent. The interaction of low density lipoproteins (LDL) with different surfactants was studied by capillary electrophoresis (CE) and sucrose density gradient ultracentrifugation as part of developing a method for quantitation of apoB-100 in serum. A mixture of surfactants consisting of 70% sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), 25% sodium myristyl sulfate, and 5% sodium cetyl sulfate was found to delipidate LDL particles more effectively than pure SDS or sodium decyl sulfate. The delipidation products of LDL [apolipoprotein B-100 (apoB-100) and lipids] were resolved as two distinct peaks by CE when using a 3.5 mm 70% SDS mixture, 20% (v/v) acetonitrile, 50 mm sodium borate, pH 9.1 buffer. This CE method was also used to characterize apoB-100 derived from samples of lipoprotein [a] and very low density lipoproteins (VLDL). A CE-based quantitation method for apoB-100 was developed utilizing the observed linear relationship between apoB-100 concentration and its corrected 214 nm absorbance peak area measured on-line by CE. Concentration values of apoB-100 in LDL and VLDL samples were determined by CE and found to be accurate when compared to values obtained by immunoturbidimetric analysis and the Lowry method. Capillary electrophoresis can be used as a precise, accurate, and specific on-line method for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the apoB-100 component of VLDL and LDL-related lipoproteins.—Cruzado, I. We describe new methods for analyzing the apolipoproteins (apo) of the high density lipoproteins (HDL) of several species by two modes of capillary electrophoresis: size separation using a molecular sieving buffer, and capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) using neutral coated capillaries. By either mode HDL apos were resolved within 25 min. Results for apoA-I and apoA-II mass agreed with those by electroimmunoassay; intra-assay coefficients of variation were 1.8–4.2%. The migration times of human, rat, rabbit, and bovine apoA-I during CZE were proportional to their net charge/Mr ratios. This enabled human and rabbit apoA-I to be quantified simultaneously in transgenic rabbit HDLs. CZE also resolved human apoA-I isoforms, deamidated apoA-I, and pro-apoA-I.—Stocks, J., M. N.
