Adenosine exerts its dual functions of homeostasis and neuromodulation in the brain by acting at mainly 2 G-protein coupled receptors, called A1 and A2A receptors. The adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) antagonists have been clinically pursued for the last 2 decades, leading to final approval of the istradefylline, an A2AR antagonist, for the treatment of OFF-Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. The approval paves the way to develop novel therapeutic methods for A2AR antagonists to address 2 major unmet medical needs in PD and traumatic brain injury (TBI), namely neuroprotection or improving cognition. In this review, we first consider the evidence for aberrantly increased adenosine signaling in PD and TBI and the sufficiency of the increased A2AR signaling to trigger neurotoxicity and cognitive impairment. We further discuss the increasing preclinical data on the reversal of cognitive deficits in PD and TBI by A2AR antagonists through control of degenerative proteins and synaptotoxicity, and on protection against TBI and PD pathologies by A2AR antagonists through control of neuroinflammation. Moreover, we provide the supporting evidence from multiple human prospective epidemiological studies which revealed an inverse relation between the consumption of caffeine and the risk of developing PD and cognitive decline in aging population and Alzheimer's disease patients. Collectively, the convergence of clinical, epidemiological and experimental evidence supports the validity of A2AR as a new therapeutic target and facilitates the design of A2AR antagonists in clinical trials for disease-modifying and cognitive benefit in PD and TBI patients.

Bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) is a staple food crop worldwide. The genetic dissection of important nutrient traits is essential for the biofortification of wheat to meet the nutritional needs of the world’s growing population. Here, 45,298 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from 55K chip arrays were used to genotype a panel of 768 wheat cultivars, and a total of 154 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were detected for eight traits under three environments by genome-wide association study (GWAS). Three QTLs (qMn-3B.1, qFe-3B.4, and qSe-3B.1/qFe-3B.6) detected repetedly under different environments or traits were subjected to subsequent analyses based on linkage disequilibrium decay and the P-values of significant SNPs. Significant SNPs in the three QTL regions formed six haplotypes for qMn-3B.1, three haplotypes for qFe-3B.4, and three haplotypes for qSe-3B.1/qFe-3B.6. Phenotypic analysis revealed significant differences among haplotypes. These results indicated that the concentrations of several nutrient elements have been modified during the domestication of landraces to modern wheat. Based on the QTL regions, we identified 15 high-confidence genes, eight of which were stably expressed in different tissues and/or developmental stages. TraesCS3B02G046100 in qMn-3B.1 and TraesCS3B02G199500 in qSe-3B.1/qFe-3B.6 were both inferred to interact with metal ions according to the Gene Ontology (GO) analysis. TraesCS3B02G199000, which belongs to qSe-3B.1/qFe-3B.6, was determined to be a member of the WRKY gene family. Overall, this study provides several reliable QTLs that may significantly affect the concentrations of nutrient elements in wheat grain, and this information will facilitate the breeding of wheat cultivars with improved grain properties.

Long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) play an increasingly important role in various aspects of societal life. In response to the national emphasis on air force development, a study on the aerodynamic characteristics of long-endurance UAVs was conducted. This paper utilizes SolidWorks software to construct a geometric model based on the MQ-9 UAV, and a CFD method to establish a simulation model for UAV cruising flight. The aerodynamic coefficients, required thrust, and total mass during UAV cruise were calculated, and the variation of aerodynamic coefficients as airflow passes through the UAV was described. A comparative analysis was performed on the effects of different angles of attack, flight speeds, and flight altitudes on aerodynamic efficiency. The study results indicate that at an altitude of 10 km, with a 0° angle of attack, the UAV achieves a lift coefficient of 0.8888, a drag coefficient of 0.0679, and a lift-to-drag ratio of 13.0988. The required thrust is approximately 2236 N, and the total flight mass is approximately 3090 Kg. The angle of attack has the greatest impact on aerodynamic efficiency, followed by flight altitude, while flight speed has the least impact on aerodynamic performance. The lift-to-drag ratio initially increases sharply and then decreases rapidly with increasing angle of attack. It is recommended to control the angle of attack within the range of 0°–6°. The lift-to-drag ratio increases slowly with increasing flight speed, suggesting that the flight speed should be maintained near the maximum cruise speed. The lift-to-drag ratio generally decreases with increasing flight altitude, and it is recommended to maintain the flight altitude within the range of 9 km–11 km.

Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are widely dispersed persistent organic pollutants (POPs) throughout marine ecosystems. Due to ban of traditional long-chain PFAS, the emerging short-chain ones showed increased environmental detection as substitutes. As the foundation of aquatic food webs, microalgae play a pivotal role in the stability of marine environments. However, the toxicity of those short-chain PFAS was lack of investigation. Therefore, we chose 4C PFAS perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA) and the marine model diatom Thalassiosira pseudonana as research targets, comprehensively studied the toxicity of PFBA to T. pseudonana in terms of the population growth, photosynthetic physiology and oxidative stress. Our results characterized the inhibited growth, inhibited photosynthetic parameters, increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and activated antioxidant system under PFBA exposure. Further transcriptome analysis revealed the underlying molecular mechanisms: photosynthetic genes were slightly down-regulated and the expression of oxidative stress-related genes was enhanced; significant up-regulation of genes related to the DNA excision repair and replication-coupled DNA repair pathways; the expression of carbon metabolisms-related genes was increased, including the Calvin cycle, glycolysis, pentose phosphate pathway, tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and fatty acid biosynthesis, that could provide sufficient energy for the recovery processes of microalgal cells. This study elucidated the underlying toxic mechanisms of PFBA on phytoplankton, and provided novel insights for assessing the environmental risks of PFAS.

Dietary fiber (DF) is an important active polysaccharide in Hericium erinaceus. Obesity can lead to a wide range of diseases. In this work, we investigated the in vitro lipid-lowering effect of soluble dietary fiber (SDF) from H. erinaceus, aiming to provide a basis for the subsequent development of lipid-lowering products. Ultrasound-assisted enzymatic extraction (UAEE) of SDF from H. erinaceus was performed. The optimal extraction parameters determined via single-factor experiments and response surface methodology (RSM) were as follows: Lywallzyme concentration, 1.0%; complex protease concentration, 1.2%; ultrasonication time, 35 min; and ultrasonication power, 150 W. In vitro lipid-lowering experiments revealed that the adsorption amount of cholesterol micelles by H. erinaceus SDF was 11.91 mg/g. The binding amount and binding rate of sodium taurocholate were 3.73 mg/g and 42.47%, respectively, and those of sodium glycocholate were 3.43 mg/g and 39.12%, respectively. The pancreatic lipase inhibition rate reached 52.11%, and the type of inhibition was competitive. Therefore, H. erinaceus SDF has good in vitro lipid-lowering ability.

Background: Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease involving the pilosebaceous unit. Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of a chlorin e6 derivative-mediated photodynamic therapy (STBF-PDT) in the treatment of mild to moderate acne patients. Methods: In this prospective patient single-blind randomized split-face controlled study, patients diagnosed with mild to moderate acne were treated with four sessions of STBF-PDT on one-half of the face, while the other half were treated with the same dose of red-light treatment without photosensitizer. Follow-up assessment including the skin lesion clearance rate, facial fluorescence scattering spots on VISIA Porphyrins mode, and skin physiological parameters was conducted before and after treatment as well as 2 and 4 weeks after the final treatment. Results: A total of 26 patients were recruited, of which 22 patients completed this study. STBF-PDT is significantly effective in improving lesions in patients with acne. The clearance rate of total lesions was 67.42±8.51 % in the STBF-PDT group and 41.05±11.97 % in the control group 4 weeks after the treatment (P < 0.001). The average clearance rate of inflammatory lesions was 84.41±7.13 % in the STBF-PDT group and 50.10±13.91 % in the control group, with a statistically significance (P < 0.0001). The skin sebum of the STBF-PDT side was significantly lower than that on the control side. There was no obvious adverse reaction especially no pain or reactive acne. Conclusion: STBF-PDT may be a safe and effective treatment for mild to moderate acne and can significantly inhibit sebum secretion.

The lipid and flavor in milk are key factors that affect its quality, which profiles during donkey lactation are not yet clear. In this study, the lipids and volatile compounds (VOCs) in donkey milk from stages of lactation were analyzed by using LC-MS and GC-IMS. A total of 1774 lipids were identified in donkey milk, spanning over 6 major categories and attributed to 30 subclasses. The 233 differentially expressed lipids were identified between donkey colostrum and mature milk, which participate in 20 metabolic pathways, including glycerophospholipid, linoleic acid, and sphingolipid. Additionally, 35 VOCs in donkey milk were identified, including 28.57% aldehydes, 28.57% ketones, 25.71% esters, and 8.57% alcohols. Of these VOCs, 15 were determined to be characteristic flavors in donkey milk, mainly including methyl 2-methylbutanoate, 2-pentanone, and butyl acetate. 11 significantly different VOCs were found between the groups. Acetone, 2-heptanone, and ethyl acetate-m were considered potential discriminatory markers.

This study aims to clarify the synergistic effect of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the evolution of visual communication of new media art, thereby exploring an AI layout design method based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) in the practice of visual communication design. Firstly, this study designs an AI layout design model based on CNN, and trains and optimizes it with training data. Secondly, the automatic generation of layout design is realized by constantly adjusting the model parameters and network structure. Finally, various AI layout design algorithms are compared, and their effects and performances in layout design generation are analyzed. To verify the layout and composition matching model's performance, traditional layout design methods are selected for comparison (layout, comparison, harmonic composition, etc.). This study involved 20 design students as participants, evaluating them across three dimensions: overall comprehensive assessment, readability of text information, and rationality of visual path using a Likert 7-point scale. The results reveal that the proposed method's evaluation outcomes in these three aspects are 5.95, 5.68, and 5.74, respectively, higher than the traditional layout design methods. To sum up, the generative AI discussed here can automatically generate design elements and schemes through deep learning and big data analysis, thus providing a reference for the innovation of visual communication design.

Prostate cancer is a significant contributor to cancer-related mortality, and the tumor typically develops into castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Hence, few effective clinical strategies are available to patients with advanced disease. Extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) is a type of circular DNA originating from the chromosomes but is likely independent of them. Because of its unique structural characteristics, eccDNA has extensive applications as a new biomarker for cancer prevention and treatment. Circle-seq obtains a comprehensive picture of the overall landscape of eccDNA sizes and content in cell populations. In this study, we used Circle-seq and studied the distribution pattern and expression level of eccDNA in prostate cancer. We confirmed that eccDNA is derived from every human chromosome and has sequences from all known types of genomic structures, revealing it is a common mutational element in prostate cancer. We also identified an eccDNA-related gene SPOCK1 that promotes drug resistance, proliferation, and metastasis of many cancers through the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) mechanism. The SPOCK1-associated eccDNA was highly upregulated in various groups of sequencing results, and SPOCK1 was highly expressed in prostate cancer tissues and cells. Therefore, SPOCK1 exists as eccDNA in prostate cancer and encourages its development and drug resistance via the EMT mechanism. Our results suggest that upregulated genes in the form of eccDNA are oncogenes in prostate cancer and play a pivotal role in carcinogenesis.

Female reproductive timing and lifespan, with a close relation to long-term health outcomes, have been altered in U.S. women over the past decades. However, epidemiologic evidence of the potential causes was lacking. On the basis of 1981 naturally postmenopausal women from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999–2020, this study aimed to investigate the associations of urinary heavy metals with age at menarche, age at menopause, and reproductive lifespan. Multivariate generalized linear regression and addictive models were used for single metal exposure analysis, and weighted quantile sum (WQS) and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models were employed for mixed exposures. In the fully adjusted model, higher urinary antimony concentration was associated with earlier age at menarche of 0.137 years, while higher concentrations of cadmium, cesium, lead, antimony, and thallium were associated with delayed age at menopause of 0.396–0.687 years. Additionally, urinary barium, cesium, lead, antimony, and thallium levels were associated with longer reproductive lifespan ranging between 0.277 and 0.713 years. Both WQS and BKMR models showed significantly positive associations of metal mixtures with age at menopause (β: 0.667, 95 % CI: 0.120–1.213) and reproductive lifespan (β: 0.686, 95 % CI: 0.092–1.280), with cadmium and lead identified as principal contributors. In conclusion, heavy metal exposures were associated with reproductive timing and lifespan of U.S. women, highlighting the need for further prevention and intervention strategies.

Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is a chronic disabling disease caused by degeneration of nucleus pulposus cells, decreased activity and the number of nucleus pulposus cells, decreased extracellular matrix, and infiltration of inflammatory factors, resulting in low back and leg pain. Recent studies have shown that non-surgical treatment is of great significance in reversing the progression of degenerative disc disease, and there are more relevant literature reports. However, there is no bibliometric analysis in this area. This study aimed to describe the knowledge structure and thematic trends of non-surgical treatment methods for IDD through bibliometrics. Methods: Articles and reviews on non-surgical treatment of disc degeneration from 1998 to 2022 were collected on the Web of Science. VOSviewer 1.6.18, CiteSpace 6.1.R3, R package “bibliometrix” and two online analysis platforms were used for bibliometric and visual literature analysis. Results: 961 articles were screened for inclusion, including 821 articles and 140 reviews. The analysis of our study shows that publications in the non-surgical treatment of disc degeneration are increasing annually, with publications coming mainly from North America and Asia, with China and the United States dominating. Huazhong Univ Sci & Technol and Wang K are the most prolific institutions and authors, respectively, and Le Maitre CL is the most co-cited author. However, there is less collaboration between institutions in different countries. Spine is both the most published and the most cited journal. According to the co-citation and co-occurrence analysis results, “mesenchymal stem cells,” “exosomes,” “medication,” and “tissue engineering” are the current research hotspots in this field. Conclusions: This study employs bibliometric analysis to explore the knowledge structure and trends of non-surgical treatments for IDD from 2013 to 2022. Key research hotspots include mesenchymal stem cells, exosomes, medication, and tissue engineering. The number of publications, especially from China and the USA, has increased significantly, though international collaboration needs improvement. Influential contributors include Wang K and the journal Spine. These findings provide a comprehensive overview and highlight important future directions for the field.

Summary: Stapokibart (CM310) is a humanized IL-4Rα monoclonal antibody currently undergoing phase 3 trials for type 2 inflammatory diseases. In contrast to dupilumab, which bound exclusively to human IL-4Rα, stapokibart demonstrated cross-species reactivity to IL-4Rα from human, cynomolgus monkey, and rat. Stapokibart exhibited comparable blocking activity to dupilumab. Epitope mapping revealed that stapokibart bound to distinct sites on IL-4Rα compared to dupilumab. In vitro assays showed that stapokibart was comparable or numerically superior in blocking IL-4Rα-mediated signaling compared to dupilumab. In vivo studies further demonstrated that stapokibart effectively inhibited the progression of type 2 inflammation. Pharmacokinetic studies revealed a circulating half-life of approximately 298–351 h in cynomolgus monkeys and 55–142 h in rats for stapokibart. Toxicity studies indicated a favorable safety profile in cynomolgus monkeys and rats. The preclinical evaluation of stapokibart supports its clinical development.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic non-specific inflammatory disease involving the mucosa and submucosa of the rectum and colon. Lindera aggregate (Sims) Kosterm is a traditional Chinese herb used for thousands of years in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. Previously, we have demonstrated that the extracts of Lindera aggregate have good anti-UC effects, but their pharmacodynamic active components have not been fully clarified. Therefore, we explored the therapeutic effect of Linderanine C (LDC), a characteristic component of Lindera aggregata, on UC and its mechanism in this study. Firstly, we found that LDC could significantly reduce the disease activity index of UC and improve shortened colon and pathological changes in vivo. Colon tissue transcriptomics suggested that the anti-UC effect of LDC might be related to its anti-inflammatory activity. Cellular experiments revealed that LDC could inhibit the expression of the M1 cell marker CD86 in RAW264.7 cells, reduce the production of inflammatory mediators such as IL-6 and TNF-α, and have good anti-inflammatory activity in vitro. Cellular transcriptomics reveal the potential involvement of the MAPK signaling pathway in the anti-inflammatory effect of LDC. The co-culture assay confirmed that LDC could significantly reduce inflammation-mediated intestinal epithelial cell injury. In conclusion, LDC was able to inhibit macrophage M1 polarization and reduce inflammatory mediator production by inhibiting the MAPK signaling pathway, effectively improving UC.

Sewage with a low carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio can be effectively treated using high-rate algal ponds (HRAPs), consisting of a combined symbiotic system of algae and bacteria. However, HRAPs have been predominantly used in laboratories, but their application in wastewater treatment plants is yet to be realized. Puerarin, a monomer of traditional Chinese medicine, is a key component of Pueraria radix. Both clinical and experimental researches demonstrated that puerarin has therapeutic effects on Parkinson's disease (PD). Puerarin's pharmacological mechanisms include: 1) Anti-apoptosis. Puerarin inhibits cell apoptosis through the phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling pathways. Puerarin also exerts a hormone-like effect against cell apoptosis; 2) Anti-oxidative stress injury. Puerarin inhibits the Nrf2 nuclear exclusion through the GSK-3β/Fyn pathway to promote the Nrf2 accumulation in the nucleus, and then promotes the antioxidant synthesis through the Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway to protect against oxidative stress; 3) Neuroprotective effects by intervening in the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) and autophagy-lysosomal pathway (ALP). Puerarin significantly enhances the activity of chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA), which downregulates the expression of α-synuclein, reduces its accumulation, and thus improves the function of damaged neurons. Additionally, puerarin increases proteasome activity and decreases ubiquitin-binding proteins, thereby preventing toxic accumulation of intracellular proteins; 4) Alleviating inflammatory response. Puerarin inhibits the conversion of microglia to the M1 phenotype while inducing the transition of microglia to the M2 phenotype. Furthermore, puerarin promotes the secretion of anti-inflammatory factor and inhibits the expression of pro-inflammatory factors; 5) Increasing the levels of dopamine and its metabolites. Puerarin could increase the levels of dopamine, homovanillic acid (HVA) and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) in the striatum; 6) Promoting neurotrophic factor expression and neuronal repair. Puerarin increases the expression of glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF), thereby exerting a neuroprotective effect. Moreover, the regulation of the gut microbiota by puerarin may be a potential mechanism for the treatment of PD. The current review discusses the molecular mechanisms of puerarin, which may provide insight into the active components of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of PD.

Transfer RNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs) are a class of small non-coding RNA (sncRNA) molecules derived from tRNA, including tRNA derived fragments (tRFs) and tRNA halfs (tiRNAs). tsRNAs can affect cell functions by participating in gene expression regulation, translation regulation, intercellular signal transduction, and immune response. They have been shown to play an important role in various human diseases, including cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Targeted regulation of tsRNAs expression can affect the progression of CVDs. The tsRNAs induced by pathological conditions can be detected when released into the extracellular, giving them enormous potential as disease biomarkers. Here, we review the biogenesis, degradation process and related functional mechanisms of tsRNAs, and discuss the research progress and application prospects of tsRNAs in different CVDs, to provide a new perspective on the treatment of CVDs.

Infection with Plasmodium falciparum is often deadly when it results in cerebral malaria, which is associated with neuropathology described as an overwhelming inflammatory response and mechanical obstruction of cerebral microvascular. PI3Kγ is a critical component of intracellular signal transduction and plays a central role in regulating cell chemotaxis, migration, and activation. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between inhibiting the PI3Kγ pathway and the outcome of experimental cerebral malaria (ECM) in C57BL/6J mice infected with the mouse malaria parasite, Plasmodium berghei ANKA. We observed that oral administration of the PI3Kγ inhibitor IPI549 after infection completely protected mice from ECM. IPI549 treatment significantly dampened the magnitude of inflammatory responses, with reduced production of pro-inflammatory factors, decreased T cell activation, and altered differentiation of antigen-presenting cells. IPI549 treatment protected the infected mice from neuropathology, as assessed by an observed reduction of pathogenic T cells in the brain. Treating the infected mice with IPI549 three days after parasite inoculation improved the murine blood brain barrier (BBB) integrity and helped the mice pass the onset of ECM. Together, these data indicate that oral administration of the PI3Kγ inhibitor IPI549 has a suppressive role in host inflammation and alleviates cerebral pathology, which supports IPI549 as a new malaria treatment option with potential therapeutic implications for cerebral malaria.

To visualize and quantify these exchanges among primary stakeholders in megaprojects, this study introduces network stakeholder value network as the core methodology. Starting with a qualitative organizational safety behavior model encompassing 8 stakeholders and 61 value flows, it's built based on 3 organizational safety behavior categories. Moreover, questionnaire data from 356 experts quantifies the model, and the design structure matrix identifies 13845 safety value paths, including 4827 cycles. Analysis delves into critical cycles, stakeholders, flows, and organizational safety behavior types to refine safety strategies. The findings, based on Chinese megaprojects, suggest that contractors and governments must lead safety awareness efforts, with safety compliance paramount for all parties. The study's contributions are threefold: firstly, it broadens the scope to encompass organizational safety behavior; secondly, it introduces a novel approach to visualize and quantify safety value flows; and thirdly, it considers multiple types of value exchanges, underscores their significance in promoting safety value, and offers practical recommendations to strengthen construction safety performance.

In this paper, non-woven fabric and glass fiber fabric were used to prepare resin-based absorbing composite. The thermal expansion coefficient and the microwave absorbing properties of the absorbing composites with different glass fiber volume fraction were studied. The results show that the simulation results of the thermal expansion coefficient calculated by Schapery model are inconsistent with the experimental results, the metallographic results were studied to reveal that it is the added absorbent in the composite that partially replaced the resin at the interface between resin and fiber bundle causes the parameters of the material substituted in the Schapery model to be improper. A different simulation model was proposed to introduce a set of different parameters of the material to reduce the error between simulation and experiment results and the simulation results show that the error is reduced from a maximum of 53 % to a minimum of 3 %. Meanwhile the microwave absorbing properties show that the absorbing peaks of the composite materials move to low frequency with the increasing glass fiber volume fraction and the minimum reflection loss (RL) first increase and then decrease. The metallographic results show that the different distribution of absorbent in the composites within different reinforced fibers causes the movement of the absorbing peaks and the change of its minimum RL. Those research results lay a foundation for the further popularization and application of the absorbing composites.

Deformation control of deep roadways is a major challenge for mine safety production. Taking a deep roadway with a burial depth of 965 m in a mine in North China as the engineering background, on-site investigation found that significant creep deformation occurred in the surrounding rock of the roadway. The original supporting U-shaped steel support failed due to insufficient supporting strength. The rock mass near the roadway experienced a transition from triaxial stress conditions to biaxial and even uniaxial stress states as a result of excavation and unloading, leading to a gradient stress distribution in the surrounding rock. From the perspective of the roadway's deviatoric stress field distribution, we investigated the gradient failure mechanism of the roadway and validated it through theoretical analysis and numerical simulations. The study found that the ratio of horizontal principal stress and vertical principal stress determines the distribution shape of the surrounding rock deviatoric stress field. The gradient distribution of the stress field in the roadway will cause time-related deformation of the roadway, which will lead to large deformation and failure of the roadway. There are few studies on the association between polymetallic exposure and obesity in preschool children, and the conclusions are inconsistent. The study aimed to explore the association between urine metals and body mass index (BMI). For 342 preschool children in the industrial park of Shaanxi, China, uniformly trained investigators collected basic information of preschoolers and measured height and weight. Morning urine were collected, and BMI were calculated. We measured concentrations of 22 urine metals by quadrupole inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).The least absolute shrinkage and selective operator (LASSO) regression model was used to screen urine metals larger impact on BMI. In the polymetallic exposure model, generalized linear regression was used to explore the relationship between the selected urine metals and BMI. The overall relationship between urine metals and BMI was analyzed using restricted cubic spline (RCS). The interaction method was used to explore the influence of metal-metal interaction on BMI. Soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) and coefficient of permeability (k) are amongst the most crucial soil properties in unsaturated soil mechanics for soil moisture conservation. The direct measurement and prediction of such properties are important to engineering applications, but they are complicated. This study developed a new experimental setup (the OT permeameter) using osmotic tensiometers (OTs) and the continuous evaporation method. The proposed OT permeameter could directly measure SWCC and k up to 1000 kPa suction within one to two weeks. Moreover, the proposed setup is fully automated and data processing was minimal. In addition, a new general equation has been developed to predict and best fit the unsaturated k measurement. The proposed equation uses a minimal number of parameters that carry physical meaning and provides an intuitive and easy way to predict and best-fit k measurement. The accuracy and robustness of both the proposed OT permeameter and prediction equation were evaluated using published data and experimental data from this study.

To clarify the mechanism of lower temperatures promoted the solidification of preserved egg yolk, the effects of temperature (4 °C, 10 °C and 25 °C) on the physicochemical properties, microstructure and protein structure of preserved egg yolk were studied. Results showed that the exterior egg yolk (EEY) exhibited higher pH, hardness and free sulfhydryl content at low-temperature pickling. The microstructure showed that the EEY gradually formed a denser gel network structure at lower temperatures. Electrophoresis results and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated that there were different degrees of protein degradation and cross-linking of proteins in the IEY (the interior egg yolk) and EEY and the decrease of β-sheets in the secondary structure was accompanied by an increase of β-turns during the formation of egg yolk gels. These results indicated that egg yolk solidification was faster and denser gel structure at 4 °C and 10 °C.

Wildlife conservation and management in human-dominated landscapes are major concerns for wildlife ecologists and managers. The dynamics of human disturbance, combined with seasonal limitations in the availability of nutritious foods, may restrict wildlife population growth and recovery. However, understanding how large mammal species adjust their population distribution in forest habitats with seasonal changes in food and disturbances requires a deeper and more extensive analysis. In this study, we found that three ungulate species, roe deer (Capreolus pygargus), sika deer (Cervus nippon), and wild boar (Sus scrofa), employ robust, conservative, and flexible distribution strategies, respectively, to adapt to the effects of seasonal changes and human disturbances. Moreover, croplands, villages, and grazing have some negative effects on the distribution of roe deer and sika deer, while wild boar can be highly abundant near human land use. Additionally, roe deer, sika deer, and wild boar are also affected by the abundance of shrub species they consume. During the cold season, the populations of the Amur tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) and Amur leopard (P. pardus orientalis) were primarily located near roads and dense forests, respectively. In the warm season, the distribution of both big cats was influenced by prey abundance, and Amur tigers also avoided grazing livestock. Nevertheless, the negative effects of human land use on Amur tigers and wild boars increased during the warm season, which was attributed to more frequent human activities during that time. Consequently, it is crucial to implement season-specific habitat management, particularly by regulating human disturbances during the warm season, in order to promote the recovery and expansion of populations of big cats and ungulates.

Background: Intracranial aneurysms are associated with a high mortality rate in the event of a rupture and significant morbidity during subsequent treatment. Hybrid treatment approaches for vascular diseases have been incorporated into modern operating rooms as guides for surgical interventions now. The current study evaluates the feasibility and effectiveness of hybrid operating room system and its application in the surgical treatment of intracranial aneurysms. Aims: To evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of hybrid operating room system and its application in the surgical treatment for aneurysms. Methods: 76 patients with 84 intracranial aneurysms were surgically treated in Hybrid operating room with intraoperative angiography between March 2018 and March 2021. Aneurysm clipping was performed in 76 (94.7 %) cases; Aneurysm trapping with extracranial-intracranial (EC-IC) bypass in 4 (5.3 %) cases. Patient demographics, aneurysm size, location, Hunt and Hess score, were recorded. 69 (90.8 %) patients were followed up 6–12 months post operation. Results: Intraoperative angiography demonstrated 5 (6.9%) unexpected aneurysm neck residuals leading to adjustment; 6 (8.3%) parent vessel stenosis in which 5 returned to normal after adjustment. Four giant paraclinoid aneurysms trapping with EC-IC bypass showed total successful vessel reconstruction and complete aneurysm exclusion (100%). The postoperative outcome was evaluated with the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). 53 (76.8%) patients showed good outcome (mRS 0), 11 (15.9%) showed mild neurological defect (mRS 1–2), 3 (4.3%) showed poor outcome (mRS 5), and 2 (2.9%) patients died (mRS 6, Hunt-Hess grade V before surgery). Conclusion: Hybrid operating room provides new concepts in the surgically treatment of intracranial aneurysms, especially valuable for the complex aneurysms. The combination of intraoperative imaging of angiography and clipping surgery may offer the opportunity of radical clipping and reduced complications for aneurysm patients.

Postpartum depression (PPD) has a significant impact on the physical and mental health of mothers, potentially leading to symptoms such as low mood, fatigue, and decreased appetite. It may also affect the healthy growth of the infant. The onset of PPD is closely related to abnormalities in inflammation and the immune system. PPD patients exhibit abnormalities in the proportion of peripheral blood immune cells, along with an increase in pro-inflammatory cytokines. Excessive pro-inflammatory cytokines in peripheral blood can disrupt the blood-brain barrier (BBB) by activating astrocytes and reducing transendothelial electrical resistance (TEER), allowing peripheral immune cells or cytokines to enter the brain and trigger inflammation, ultimately leading to the onset of depression. In addition, PPD lacks safe and effective treatment medications. In this study, we collected peripheral blood from both healthy postpartum women and those with PPD, conducted single cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), and used an in-house analytical tool scSTAR to reveal that PPD patients exhibit elevated proportions of peripheral blood cDC2 and Proliferation B cells, which are significantly correlated with IL-1β. Additionally, animal experiments were designed to validate that 919 granules can improve PPD by modulating the levels of peripheral blood IL-1β, providing a potential therapeutic mechanism for PPD treatment.

Degenerative intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) is one of the main spinal surgery, conditions, which markedly increases the incidence of low back pain and deteriorates the patient’s quality of life, and it imposes significant social and economic burdens. The molecular pathology of IVDD is highly complex and multilateral however still not ompletely understood. New findings indicate that IVDD is closely associated with inflammation, oxidative stress, cell injury and extracellular matrix metabolismdysregulation. Symptomatic management is the main therapeutic approach adopted for IVDD, but it fails to address the basic pathological changes and the causes of the disease. However, research is still focusing on molecular aspects in terms of gene expression, growth factors and cell signaling pathways in an attempt to identify specific molecular targets for IVDD treatment. The paper summarizes the most recent achievements in molecularunderstanding of the pathogenesis of IVDD and gives evidence-based recommendations for clinical practice.

Aim: American ginseng berries, grown in the aerial parts and harvested in August, are a potentially valuable material. The aim of the study was to analyze the specific polysaccharides in American ginseng berries, and to demonstrate the anti-inflammation effect through in vitro and in vivo experiments and molecular docking. Methods: After deproteinization and dialysis, the extracted crude polysaccharide was separated and purified. The structure of the specific isolated polysaccharide was investigated by Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), GC-MS and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated using in vitro and in vivo models (Raw 264.7 cells and zebrafish). Molecular docking was used to analyze the binding capacity and interaction with cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Results: A novel neutral polysaccharide fraction (AGBP-A) was isolated from American ginseng berries. The structural analysis demonstrated that AGBP-A had a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of 122,988 Da with a dispersity index (Mw/Mn) value of 1.59 and was composed of arabinose and galactose with a core structure containing →6)-Gal-(1→ residues as the backbone and a branching substitution at the C3 position. The side-chains comprised of α-L-Ara-(1→, α-L-Ara-(1→, →5)-α-L-Ara-(1→, β-D-Gal-(1→. The results showed that it significantly decreased pro-inflammatory cytokines in the cell model. In a zebrafish model, AGBP-A reduced the massive recruitment of neutrophils to the caudal lateral line neuromast, suggesting the relief of inflammation. Molecular docking was used to analyze the combined capacity and interaction with COX-2. Conclusion: Our study indicated the potential efficacy of AGBP-A as a safe and valid natural anti-inflammatory component.

Retinoblastoma (RB) is a type of pediatric solid tumor in the fundus. The lack of precision therapies combined with the difficulty of delivering small interfering RNA (siRNA) into the eyes means that there is currently no nucleic acid-based therapy for RB in clinical practice. Here, we reported on anti-GD2 and glutathione-responsive spherical nucleic acids (SNAs), loaded with siRNA and the inhibitor NVP-CGM097, which jointly blocked the oncogenic factor n in RB cells (Y79 and WERI-RB-1). The SNAs were formed through the self-assembly of bifunctional cholesterol amphiphiles containing aptamers that specifically targeted GD2-positive RB cells, allowing for the formation of an SNA with a dense DNA shell. The aptamer/siRNA component functioned both as a carrier and a payload, enhancing the specific recognition and delivery of both components and constituting an active agent for MDM2 regulation. Following SNA endocytosis by RB cells, siRNA and NVP-CGM097 were released from the SNA particles by glutathione, which synergistically blocked the MDM2-p53 pathway, increasing p53 protein content and inducing cell apoptosis. This study showed a potent antitumor effect following intravitreal injection of SNAs in Y79 tumor-bearing mice through clinical manifestation and tumor pathological analysis. In hematological analysis and hepatotoxicity assays, SNAs were safer for mice than melphalan, the favored drug for treating RB in clinical practice. Our results illustrated the potential of intravitreally injected SNAs as a precision medicine for treating RB.

Water pollution is a significant global environmental concern that threatens the sustainable progress of humanity. In this study, the concepts of photocatalytic oxidation in the cathodic zone (NH4+-N adsorption-NH3-N conversion) and electrochemical oxidation in the anodic zone (NH4+-N direct oxidation + chlorination) were proposed to remove ammoniacal nitrogen, and experimental studies were conducted. The stirring of the test solution during the reaction process enhanced the ammoniacal nitrogen removal efficiency by ∼9% after 90 min of reaction. The removal efficiency of ammoniacal nitrogen was comparatively high at low concentrations. After 60 min of reaction in the presence of 15 mg·L−1 ammonium chloride, the removal efficiency exceeded 95%; the removal efficiency of ionized ammonia increased with increasing current density. After 60 min, the removal efficiency of ammoniacal nitrogen exceeded 80%. Under the same ammoniacal nitrogen concentration conditions, the ammoniacal nitrogen removal efficiency in the test solution increased with the increase in the chlorine ion concentration, and in the absence of chlorine ions, ammoniacal nitrogen removal in the electrochemical reaction environment was insignificant. Under the same power and light conditions, the photoelectrochemical reaction exhibited a ∼15% higher ammoniacal nitrogen removal efficiency than electrochemical oxidation.

Objective: To assess emotional fluctuations, physical and mental health status, and indicators closely related to red blood cells, such as RIO kinase 3 (Riok3), MAX interactor 1 (Mxi1), and microRNA 191 (miR191), in participants with different levels of red blood cells. Methods: Participants who underwent physical examinations at Dongfang Hospital between April and October 2019 were divided into healthy, blood deficiency, and anemia groups (30 individuals in the healthy and blood deficiency group respectively, and 13 in the anemia group). The physical and mental conditions of the participants were evaluated through questionnaires, and emotional fluctuations were assessed through an emotion-inducing experiment, in which participants watched video segments designed to induce specific emotions. Relative expression levels of miR191, Riok3, and Mxi1 from venous blood samples were also determined. Results: The main psychological factors identified in the anemia and blood deficiency groups were obsessive-compulsive symptoms, depression, anxiety, and other negative emotions. Relative gene expression levels indicated that miR191 was upregulated and Riok3 and Mxi1 were downregulated in both the blood deficiency and anemia groups. Regarding the emotional score of disgust on video stage, the main effect was significant (F = 335.58, P < .001), which showed that watching the three videos caused participants to have a dominant emotion, and there is a difference on group (F = 5.35, P = .01), with higher disgust scores in the anemia and blood deficiency groups. The symptoms of blood deficiency and anemia, such as weakness in limbs were significantly negatively correlated with Riok3 and Mxi1 expression (r = −0.38 and −0.31 respectively), but was significantly positively correlated with miR191 expression (r = 0.29). Conclusion: We determined that a close relationship exists between red blood cell levels and emotional status. Our findings suggest that individuals with anemia and blood deficiency are more likely to experience psychological problems and negative emotions, particularly disgust. We also demonstrate that emotional regulation is related to mir191-Riok3-Mxi1 pathway activity, identifying these pathway components are potential targets for genetic therapies in combination with psychological therapy.

Introduction: The oriental fruit fly Bactrocera dorsalis is one of the most destructive agricultural pests worldwide, with highly debated species delimitation, origin, and global spread routes. Objectives: Our study intended to (i) resolve the taxonomic uncertainties between B. dorsalis and B. carambolae, (ii) reveal the population structure and global invasion routes of B. dorsalis across Asia, Africa, and Oceania, and (iii) identify genomic regions that are responsible for the thermal adaptation of B. dorsalis. Methods: Based on a high-quality chromosome-level reference genome assembly, we explored the population relationship using a genome-scale single nucleotide polymorphism dataset generated from the resequencing data of 487 B. dorsalis genomes and 25 B. carambolae genomes. Genome-wide association studies and silencing using RNA interference were used to identify and verify the candidate genes associated with extreme thermal stress. Results: We showed that B. dorsalis originates from the Southern India region with three independent invasion and spread routes worldwide: (i) from Northern India to Northern Southeast Asia, then to Southern Southeast Asia; (ii) from Northern India to Northern Southeast Asian, then to China and Hawaii; and (iii) from Southern India toward the African mainland, then to Madagascar, which is mainly facilitated by human activities including trade and immigration. Twenty-seven genes were identified by a genome-wide association study to be associated with 11 temperature bioclimatic variables. The Cyp6a9 gene may enhance the thermal adaptation of B. dorsalis and thus boost its invasion, which tended to be upregulated at a hardening temperature of 38 °C. Functional verification using RNA interference silencing against Cyp6a9, led to the specific decrease in Cyp6a9 expression, reducing the survival rate of dsRNA-feeding larvae exposed to extreme thermal stress of 45 °C after heat hardening treatments in B. dorsalis. Conclusion: This study provides insights into the evolutionary history and genetic basis of temperature adaptation in B. dorsalis.

The igfbp family proteins are key regulators of the biological activities of igfs, which play a pivotal role in controlling growth. Growth is highly variable between different fish species and even between growth stages and sexes within the same fish species. For determining the igfbps significantly associated to growth, we identified igfbp genes from the whole-wide genomes of mandarin fish Siniperca chuatsi and big-eye mandarin fish Siniperca kneri, and detected their expression profiles under different growth conditions. The results revealed that: 1) both mandarin fish and big-eye mandarin fish have 10 igfbp family members (igfbp-1a/b, igfbp-2a/b, igfbp-3, igfbp−4, igfbp-5a/b, and igfbp-6a/b), which are highly conserved among igfbp family members; 2) in early development, the expression of igf1 mRNA showed an increasing trend, igfbp-1a/b expression increased significantly with development and the expression trend was strongly similar to that of igf1; 3) variation of body sizes in adult revealed a strong correlation between the serum Gh content and igf1 mRNA expression level in the liver, and the expression levels of hepatic igfbp-2a/b, -4 showed a positive correlation; 4) serum Gh levels and the relative expression of hepatic igf1 mRNA were significantly higher in females than in males, the fold change in igfbp-1a in muscle, -2a, -5a in liver mRNA expression was strongly similar to that of igf1; 5) variation of the interspecific growth showed that the expression of serum Gh and hepatic igf1 mRNA in mandarin fish was significantly higher than that in big-eye mandarin fish. The expression of igfbps mRNA in mandarin fish was significantly higher than that in big-eye mandarin fish, except for igfbp-2a/2b in muscle and igfbp-6a in liver. Taken together, our results suggest that the different effects on growth of mandarin fish are regulated by the actions of different igfbps, where igfbp-1a/b, -2a/b, -4 and -5a may be a candidate for growth rate difference studies. The inherently low expression of Gh, igf1, and igfbps might have contributed to the slow growth of big-eye mandarin fish.

Objective: Ramucirumab is a VEGFR2 antagonist. The aim of this trial is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ramucirumab combined with nab-paclitaxel, lobaplatin and S-1 in neoadjuvant and conversion therapy for advanced gastric cancer. Methods: and analysis: This study is a prospective single-center, randomized controlled and open label clinical study, enrolling a total of 140 patients with advanced gastric cancer distributed across two distinct cohorts (Cohort A n = 70; Cohort B n = 70). The central focus of the study lies in evaluating the pathological complete response (pCR) of the cancer post-neoadjuvant or conversion therapy. Secondary endpoints encompass the assessment of the R0 resection rate subsequent to the aforementioned therapies, the occurrence of adverse events (AE), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), the objective response rate (ORR), the total response rate and its duration, the disease control rate (DCR), and the duration of overall response (DOR). Ethics: Ethics approval has been obtained from the Ethics Committee at the First Affiliated Hospital (Xijing Hospital) of Air force Military Medical University (KY20232220–F-1). The shrinkage issue has posed a significant challenge for the practical application of biodegradable foam materials. The varying temperature-pressure mode (VT-PM) was adopted to fabricate poly (butylene adipate-butylene terephthalate) (PBAT)/Polybutylene succinate (PBS) foams. Foam shrinkage was significantly improved by the synergistic effect of temperature and pressure, and the shrinkage resistance mechanism was investigated by analyzing the cell structure. The crystallization behavior of PBS was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscope (POM). Small size PBS crystals were obtained during the temperature change process, and the heterogeneous nucleation of PBS crystals increased the foaming expansion ratio. It was also found that the thick cell wall was able to act as a skeleton to support the structure of large cell size (＞100 μm) foams, ensuring larger compression stress and modulus.

Individuals' gaze on an object usually leads others to prefer that object, which is called the gaze-liking effect. However, it is still unclear whether this effect is driven by social factors (i.e., visual perspective-taking) or the domain-general processing (i.e., attention cueing). This research explored the mechanism of the gaze-liking effect by manipulating the objects' visibility to an avatar in six online one-shot experiments. The results showed that participants' affective evaluation for the object was modulated by the avatar's visual perspective. Specifically, the visible object to the avatar received a higher rating of liking degree. However, when the avatar was replaced with a non-social stimulus, the experimental effect was absent. Furthermore, the gaze-liking effect was robust while controlling for confounding factors such as the distance between the object and the avatar or type of stimuli. These findings provided convincing evidence that the gaze-liking effect involves a process of the other's visual experience and is not merely a by-product of the gaze-cueing effect.

tRNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs) constitute a subgroup of small noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) originating from tRNA molecules. Their rich content, evolutionary conservatism, high stability, and widespread existence makes them significant in disease research. These characteristics have positioned tsRNAs as key players in various physiological and pathological processes. tsRNA actively participates in regulating many cellular processes, such as cell death, proliferation, and metabolism. tsRNAs could be promising diagnostic markers for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). tsRNAs have been identified in serums, suggesting their utility as early indicators for the diagnosis of CVDs. Moreover, the regulatory roles of tsRNAs in CVDs make them promising targets for therapeutic intervention. This review provides a succinct overview of the characteristics, classification, and regulatory functions of tsRNAs in the context of CVDs. By shedding light on the intricate roles of tsRNAs, this knowledge could pave the way for the development of innovative diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies for CVDs.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is a disease that severely affects spinal health and is prevalent worldwide. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) have regenerative potential and have emerged as promising therapeutic tools for treating degenerative discs. However, challenges such as the harsh microenvironment of degenerated intervertebral discs and EVs' limited stability and efficacy have hindered their clinical application. In recent years, hydrogels have attracted much attention in the field of IDD therapy because they can mimic the physiologic microenvironment of the disc and provide a potential solution by providing a suitable growth environment for MSCs and EVs. This review introduced the biological properties of MSCs and their derived EVs, summarized the research on the application of MSCs and EVs in IDD, summarized the current clinical trial studies of MSCs and EVs, and also explored the mechanism of action of MSCs and EVs in intervertebral discs. In addition, plenty of research elaborated on the mechanism of action of different classified hydrogels in tissue engineering, the synergistic effect of MSCs and EVs in promoting intervertebral disc regeneration, and their wide application in treating IDD. Finally, the challenges and problems still faced by hydrogel-loaded MSCs and EVs in the treatment of IDD are summarized, and potential solutions are proposed. This paper outlines the synergistic effects of MSCs and EVs in treating IDD in combination with hydrogels and aims to provide theoretical references for future related studies.

Organic fertilization and deep ploughing are expected to contribute to carbon (C) sequestration in arable soils. This hypothesis was evaluated over 11 years of chemical and organic fertilization under conventional tillage (20 cm) and deep ploughing (40 cm) in a rainfed sorghum-maize rotation system on the Loess Plateau. Soil was collected and analysed to determine the soil organic C (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN) contents in the soil profiles (0–60 cm) or in the macroaggregates, microaggregates and silt and clay fractions (0–20 cm only). The SOC and TN stocks at the 0–60 cm depth displayed a net decrease in the unfertilized control, a marginal increase with chemical fertilizer, a significant increase of 23–45 % and 19–42 %, respectively, with organic amendments and a significant increase of 54 % and 48 %, respectively, when combined with deep ploughing. A critical input amount of 2064 kg C ha−1 yr−1 or 162 kg N ha−1 yr−1 was found to be required to maintain the initial SOC or TN stock. Natural resource usage has produced various environmental challenges. Green process innovation has been considered a viable option that can help both industry and society. This study investigates the impact of green process innovation and green product innovation on corporate financial performance. We based our findings on a sample of 280 listed non-financial firms operating in South Asia. Information was gathered from firms' annual and CSR reports from 2012 to 2022. This study's data was analyzed using a two-step dynamic panel system GMM, correlation analysis, multicollinearity diagnostic tests, and descriptive statistics. Corporate financial performance is measured with ROA, ROE and Tobin's Q. Overall findings of the study show that green innovation has a significant positive impact on all measures of financial performance. Investing in the innovation of green products and green process can assist businesses in avoiding environmental concerns and regulatory penalties, while also assisting them in establishing new market prospects and achieving new levels of success with their green products. In addition, developing products that are friendly to the environment is tightly connected to expanding green competencies, promoting a company's green image, and improving the company's financial performance. Particularly useful for policymakers in developing countries, the study's findings can be used to introduce paradigm-shifting legislation and penalties that speed up business adoption of green process innovation.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate an ultra-broadband metamaterial absorber based on photonic topological transition by using metals with large real part of permittivity (ε′). The simulation results show that the absorptivity is larger than 0.9 in the wavelength range from 400 nm to 2832 nm. The simulation results also show that the absorption effect is insensitive to the incident angle and polarization. According to the effective medium theory, the ultra-broad bandwidth is originated from the photonic topological transition. In addition, the analyses reveal that the absorption bandwidths can be extended by manipulating the wavelengths of photonic topological transition (PTT) points with large-ε′ metals. Furthermore, an ultra-broadband metamaterial absorber with multilayer films is fabricated by using standard film deposition techniques. The measured results show that the absorptivity is larger than 0.9 under normal incidence over the measured wavelength range of 400–2500 nm. This metamaterial absorber is expected to be potential candidate for various applications, such as thermal photovoltaic energy conversion, detectors, and solar cells.

Objective: Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling is intricately involved in adipose tissue development. BMP7 together with BMP4 have been implicated in brown adipocyte differentiation but their roles during development remains poorly specified. Matrix Gla protein (MGP) inhibits BMP4 and BMP7 and is expressed in endothelial and progenitor cells. The objective was to determine the role of MGP in brown adipose tissue (BAT) development. Methods: The approach included global and cell-specific Mgp gene deletion in combination with RNA analysis, immunostaining, thermogenic activity, and in vitro studies. Results: The results revealed that MGP directs brown adipogenesis at two essential steps. Endothelial-derived MGP limits triggering of white adipogenic differentiation in the perivascular region, whereas MGP derived from adipose cells supports the transition of CD142-expressing progenitor cells to brown adipogenic maturity. Both steps were important to optimize the thermogenic function of BAT. Furthermore, MGP derived from both sources impacted vascular growth. Reduction of MGP in either endothelial or adipose cells expanded the endothelial cell population, suggesting that MGP is a factor in overall plasticity of adipose tissue. Conclusion: MGP displays a dual and cell-specific function in BAT, essentially creating a “cellular shuttle” that coordinates brown adipogenic differentiation with vascular growth during development.

Herein, the effect of recrystallization on the bainite transformation and mechanical properties of CH steel were investigated using SEM, TEM, EBSD, dilatometry, and tensile testing machine. First, precipitation was introduced to hinder recrystallization by batch annealing. Subsequently, the competitive relationship between austenite transformation and recrystallization was revealed using different annealing processes. Finally, the effect of recrystallization on bainite transformation was analyzed, mainly including bainite morphology, fraction, transformation rate, bainite nucleation rate of untransformed austenite and austenite-bainite orientation relationship, as well as the effect on the mechanical properties. After batch annealing, a large amount of cementite and nanoscale (Nb, Ti)C precipitated in the hot-rolled sheet, the austenite transformation start temperature (Ac1) and the pearlite to austenite transformation end temperature (Ac1f)of the cold-rolled sheet increased, and the austenite transformation end temperature (Ac3) of the cold-rolled sheet decreased, and the austenite transformation process accelerated. The microstructure of annealed sheets is consisted of ferrite, granular bainite, martensite, and a small fraction of retained austenite. Carbide hindered the recrystallization process during the annealing process, resulting in significant refining of the grains. The lower degree of recrystallization promoted bainite transformation, providing more nucleation sites, higher grain boundary and autocatalytic nucleation activation energy, improving bainite's fraction and transformation rate. The bainitic ferrite was mainly lathy in the recrystallized zone and polygonal in the non-recrystallized zone. Both a K-S and an N-W relationship between retained austenite and bainite, while the N-W relationship in the non-recrystallized zone was relatively higher. Without severe loss of plasticity, hindering recrystallization increased the dislocation, grain refinement, and precipitation strengthening values of the samples, and the strength significantly improved. However, with the increase of annealing temperature, recrystallization fraction increased gradually, and the increase in strength became less noticeable.

To improve the inertia and damping properties of the energy storage units (ESUs) interface converters in DC microgrids, an enhanced virtual DC machine (VDCM) control technique based on traditional P-U droop control is proposed in this paper. The control scheme actively introduces additional inertia and damping to the converter by equivalently analogizing the P-U droop control of the energy storage converter with the speed control of the DC machine. With the proposed control scheme, the operation stability of the DC microgrid can be improved effectively. Due to the problem that the energy storage interface converter under VDCM control cannot achieve power distribution, a coordinated control method of power proportional distribution of parallel energy storage converter is proposed. A small signal model is established to analyze the influence of control parameter changes on system performance. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by the simulation, the results show that the proposed strategy can actively introduce greater inertia and damping for the converters to improve the inertia and damping characteristics of the energy storage converter. At the same time, it can play a dynamic adjustment effect when the energy storage interface converters are connected in parallel, which can make each converter distribute power according to the set proportion in the three working modes of charging, discharging and charging and discharging switching.

Aiming at the problems of large detection blind areas and difficult threshold settings in traditional passive islanding detection methods, this paper proposes an intelligent passive islanding detection method based on the adaptive boosting (Adaboost) algorithm. This method first uses feature screening technology to obtain the key feature electrical quantities of DC microgrid islands and form a sample set, and then rely on the Adaboost algorithm to generate a high-precision island classification model to realize the detection and classification of DC microgrid operation status. It has the advantages of automatic setting threshold, small detection blind area, and high accuracy. In addition, aiming at the problem that the classification results of the intelligent islanding detection algorithm based on machine learning cannot be directly used as the islanding discrimination results, an islanding criterion method based on the sliding window algorithm is added on the basis of the classification algorithm. This method realizes the accurate detection of the DC microgrid islanding operation state by the secondary analysis and judgment of the classification results of the islanding classification model. Finally, a DC microgrid model is built to simulate and verify the proposed method. The results show that the method can quickly and accurately complete the islanding detection of the DC microgrid.

Among major nondestructive testing technologies (NDT), such as X-ray and ultra-sound, Terahertz (THz) waves present significant transmission rate through most of nonconductive materials without the need of applying couplant while posing zero ionized radiation hazard. In comparison to microwave NDT, terahertz technology boasts a superior spatial resolution and measurement precision due to its shorter wavelength. As such, it is considered to be the most promising technology for industrial NDT applications. To analyze of THz wave transmission characteristics within porcelain insulator and obtain large quantity of testing data with repeatable measurement condition, this paper reports an experimental approach using Kaolin, in powdery form, to emulate the aging behavior of porcelain, and a THz sensor to detect such imperceptible aging process where micrometer-scale cracks slowly develop inside of porcelain insulators. To support the data acquisition from distance, a LORA communication module was integrated in the sensor for using under high-voltage environment. In addition, a dedicated user-interface software has been developed to receive the wireless data as well as conducting data analysis, crack recognition and graphic display. The experiment successfully demonstrated a very feasible solution for online monitoring of the aging process of porcelain insulators by using compact THz sensor buried in the insulator.

Summary: The “Fetal Origins of Adult Disease (FOAD)” hypothesis holds that adverse factors during pregnancy can increase the risk of chronic diseases in offspring. Here, we investigated the effects of prenatal hypoxia (PH) on brain structure and function in adult offspring and explored the role of the N6-methyladenosine (m6A) pathway. The results suggest that abnormal cognition in PH offspring may be related to the dysregulation of the m6A pathway, specifically increased levels of YTHDF3 in the hippocampus. YTHDF3 interacts with BTG2 and is involved in the decay of Cbln1 mRNA, leading to the down-regulation of Cbln1 expression. Deficiency of Cbln1 may contribute to abnormal synaptic function, which in turn causes cognitive impairment in PH offspring. This study provides a scientific clues for understanding the mechanisms of impaired cognition in PH offspring and provides a theoretical basis for the treatment of cognitive impairment in offspring exposed to PH.

Background: As a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, Cornu Cervi Degelatinatum (CCD) has the effect of warming the kidney to support yang, astringing, and stopping bleeding, and is used for spleen kidney yang deficient (SKYD). This experiment was to investigate the therapeutic effects of different processes of CCD on SKYD type ulcerative colitis (UC) rats and to explore its impact on the intestinal flora of rats. Methods: ELISA was used to study the anti-inflammatory activity of Cornu Cervi Degelatinatum processed with water (WCCD) and Cornu Cervi Degelatinatum processed with vinegar (VCCD). 16SrRNA and transcriptome sequencing were used to detect the composition of rat intestinal flora and gene expression; RT-PCR and Western blot were used to verify the role of WCCD and VCCD in treating UC. Results: WCCD and VCCD have therapeutic effects on UC, could reduce tissue damage. VCCD performed better in improving Bacteroidetes/Firmicutes ratios and species evenness and abundance; performed better in increasing the quantity of lactobacillus. VCCD simultaneously inhibit the intestinal inflammatory response through NCK2, PAK4, and JNK signaling pathways. Conclusions: WCCD and VCCD play a therapeutic role in UC by regulating the proportion of different flora in the intestinal flora. VCCD regulates the intestinal flora and inflammatory response by interfering with the NCK2, PAK4 and JNK signaling pathways.

In recent years, the problem of food adulteration has become increasingly rampant, seriously hindering the development of food production, consumption, and management. The common analytical methods used to determine food authenticity present challenges, such as complicated analysis processes and time-consuming procedures, necessitating the development of rapid, efficient analysis technology for food authentication. Spectroscopic techniques, ambient ionization mass spectrometry (AIMS), electronic sensors, and DNA-based technology have gradually been applied for food authentication due to advantages such as rapid analysis and simple operation. This paper summarizes the current research on rapid food authenticity analysis technology from three perspectives, including breeds or species determination, quality fraud detection, and geographical origin identification, and introduces chemometrics method adapted to rapid analysis techniques. It aims to promote the development of rapid analysis technology in the food authenticity field.
