Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common reproductive endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age, which often leads to female infertility. Chronic inflammation is a significant factor in the development of PCOS. Our study aimed to explore the impact of mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF), a scientifically validated anti-inflammatory factor, on 99 diagnosed PCOS patients. We also investigated its effects on PCOS mice induced with dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and KGN cells induced with dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Our findings revealed a decrease in serum MANF levels in PCOS patients, which were negatively associated with serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) levels. The administration of recombinant human MANF (rhMANF) in PCOS mice demonstrated a decrease in pro-inflammatory cytokines and monocytes/macrophages in both peripheral blood and ovarian tissues. Furthermore, the inclusion of rhMANF notably ameliorated DHEA-induced ovarian dysfunction and fibrosis by negatively regulating the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB)-NLR family, pyrin domain containing protein 3 (NLRP3) pathway. Additionally, in vitro experiments showed that the up-regulation of MANF offset DHT-induced inhibition of viability and apoptosis in KGN cells. Extracting uranium from seawater not only reduces radioactive contamination in seawater but also provides a source of uranium energy. However, due to the low concentration of uranium in seawater and the high salinity of seawater, extraction of uranium from seawater is challenging. In this work, we demonstrated a simple strategy to synthesize Fe-doped MXene (Fe@Ti 3 C 2 T x ) via a hydrothermal method and applied for uranium enrichment in seawater. The Fe@Ti 3 C 2 T x exhibited excellent adsorption performance in high salinity environments. The removal capacity of Fe@Ti 3 C 2 T x was determined to be 526.6 mg/g for UO 2 (CO 3 ) 2 2- at 328 K with quick reaction equilibrium (∼ 30 min). Kinetic and thermodynamic analyses of UO 2 (CO 3 ) 2 2- elimination process on Fe@Ti 3 C 2 T x surface revealed it to be a spontaneous and endothermic single-phase elimination process. FT-IR and XPS analyses further indicated that the removal mechanism of UO 2 (CO 3 ) 2 2- by Fe@Ti 3 C 2 T x was surface complexation. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), assembling through covalent bonds, are a rising class of porous materials. Nowadays, various COFs are widely applied in organic pollutants decontamination due to the outstanding capabilities of large surface area, multiple functional groups, porous structure, excellent absorptivity, flexible design and so on. This review concentrates on the applications of COFs in different decontamination technologies such as solid-phase extraction, membrane filtration and sieving, adsorption, and catalysis reaction. The factors influencing water chemistry, such as pH, temperature, salt concentration and natural organic matter, are summarized in terms of their impact on decontamination performance and the extraction mechanisms for the diverse analytes. The interaction mechanisms between COFs and organic pollutants were hydrogen bonding, π-π stacking, hydrophilic, hydrophobic, and electrostatic interactions. Furthermore, a perspective on current obstacles and upcoming developments of COFs for organic pollutant removal has been provided. Environmental pollution has accelerated and intensified because of the acceleration of industrialization, therefore fabricating excellent materials to remove hazardous pollutants has become inevitable. MXenes as emerging transition metal nitrides, carbides or carbonitrides with high conductivity, hydrophilicity, excellent structural stability, and versatile surface chemistry, become ideal candidates for water purification and environmental remediation. Particularly, MXenes reveal excellent sorption capability and efficient reduction performance for various contaminants of wastewater. In this regard, a comprehensive understanding of the removal behaviors of MXene-based nanomaterials is necessary to explain how they remove various pollutants in water. The eliminate process of MXene-based nanomaterials is collectively influenced by the physicochemical properties of the materials themselves and the chemical properties of different contaminants. Therefore, in this review paper, the synthesis strategies and properties of MXene-based nanomaterials are briefly introduced. Then, the chemical properties, removal behaviors and interaction mechanisms of heavy metal ions, radionuclides, and organic pollutants by MXene-based nanomaterials are highlighted. The overview also emphasizes associated toxicity, secondary contamination, the challenges, and prospects of the MXene-based nanomaterials in the applications of water treatment. Among many separation membranes reported to date, the favorable polymer affinity and unique physio-chemical performances of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) including ultra-high surface area, regular and highly controlled porosity have drawn widespread attention in industrial and academic communities. In this comprehensive review, the developmental timeline of MOF containing membranes for water treatment were clarified. The removal efficiencies, elimination mechanisms, as well as possible influencing factors of various MOF containing membranes that applied to water treatment were systematically summarized. The excellent removal performances of MOF containing membranes for various pollutants were determined by the size-exclusion, π-π stacking interaction, electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding and so on. In this investigation, two novel magnetic core-shell Fe 3 O 4 @MoS 2 (F@M) and MoS 2 @Fe 3 O 4 (M@F) composites were synthesized and exploited for Cr(VI) elimination. Eco-friendly preparation methods were applied for the synthesis of Fe 3 O 4 and MoS 2 composites. The experimental results showed that both F@M and M@F have high saturation magnetization values (43.2 emu/g for F@M and 49.9 emu/g for M@F), excellent maximum sorption capacities of Cr(VI) at pH 5.0 and 298 K (324.3 mg/g for F@M, 290.2 mg/g for M@F), remarkable Cr(VI) removal efficiencies (Cr(VI) sorption equilibrium by both F@M and M@F can be reached in 90 min) and nice regeneration properties (the sorption capabilities of F@M and M@F decreased slightly after five consecutive sorption/desorption cycles). Chemical reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) occurred on the surface of F@M and M@F, and the synergetic reduction of sulfur and ferrous ions made F@M an outstanding material for Cr(VI) removal. In recent years, the heavy metal ions have been immoderately released into the ecological system and result in potential hazardous to public health. Herein, the sodium dodecyl sulfate intercalated molybdenum disulfide (SDS-MoS 2 ) was synthesized for the adsorption of Cr(VI). The SDS molecule was flat and vertically intercalated into the interlayer of MoS 2 , which was further evidenced by density functional theory calculations. The capture of Cr(VI) on the sphere-like SDS-MoS 2 relied on solution pH. The retention of Cr(VI) on SDS-MoS 2 attained 63.92 mg/g, and the removal process was endothermic, spontaneous and increased with temperature increasing. The main removal mechanism of Cr(VI) onto SDS-MoS 2 was Cr(VI) fixing on the surface of the composites by chemisorption involving possible Cr-S coordination bonding. More importantly, Cr(VI) passed into the increased interlamination and reacted at the interlamination of SDS-MoS 2 , which was further proved at molecular level. Aniline is toxic and hard to be degraded, and thereby causes the environmental pollution seriously. Herein, a practical and green hydrothermal method was applied to fabricate terephthalic acid and pyromellitic acid intercalated layered double hydroxides (LDH) (named as TAL and PAL) for aniline efficient removal. The sorption of aniline on LDH-based materials were investigated at different experimental conditions, and the results indicated that aniline sorption on LDH, TAL and PAL were strongly dependent on pH and independent of ionic strength. The maximum sorption capacities of aniline on TAL and PAL at pH 5.0 and 293K were 90.4 and 130.0mg/g, respectively, which were significantly higher than that of aniline on LDH (52.6mg/g). Based on the BET, FTIR and XPS analysis, the higher sorption capacities of TAL and PAL were mainly due to high surface area and basal spacing as well as the abundant functional groups (e.g. -COO - ). The interactions of aniline with TAL and PAL were mainly dominated by hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions. Such a facile synthesis method, efficient removal performance and superior reusability indicated that the aromatic acid modified LDH materials had potential application for efficient treatment of organic pollutants in environmental pollution cleanup., (Copyright © 2016 Elsevier B.V.
