In accordance with environmental sustainability and in order to optimize the recycling process of prints from indirect electrophotography with liquid toner the results of investigating the effects of changes in printing conditions on the characteristics of recycled fibres is presented. Changing of printing machine conditions, respecting of voltage variations, comprises of the reverse rollers and intermediate cylinder. Based on the results it can be concluded that the change in the voltage of the reverse rollers more affect the recycling efficiency with respect to the voltage change of the intermediate cylinder. Brightness gain is higher when the print for recycling is made on uncoated paper compared to coated, and dependent on the voltage changes. Effective residual ink concentration decreases far more on handsheets obtained from recycled samples on uncoated paper in relation to both sides coated paper. Increasing the positive voltage of intermediate cylinder and increasing the negative charge of reverse rollers increases the 3 D gamut CIE L*a*b* color cubic units. Guidelines for the size of the voltage in order to obtain optimal print reproduction are provided. The further research will include the development in area of clean technologies, advanced materials, closed loop systems; therefore the significant terms in the area of environmental sustainability. The advancement in plastic and plastic based products in last two decades has imposed a serious threat to the environment. This has led to an increase in the demand for sustainable and biobased products. Paper and paper products are good alternatives to their plastic counterparts. A key element of paper industry is the raw material (wood, bamboo and nonwood agricultural residues such as bagasse, straws etc.) from which pulp is produced. The pulp is then utilized for production of paper. There are many pulping processes to prepare pulp of various qualities. For fine grade pulp, chemical pulping is used. The chemical pulp is produced by soda, kraft and sulphite pulping processes. However, for newsprint grade pulp, stone ground wood (SW), thermomechanical (TMP), chemi-thermomechanical (CTMP), chemi-mechanical (CMP) or refiner mechanical (RMP) corresponding pulping processes are employed. The method of pulp preparation (pulping process) consumes large amount of energy and chemicals. A new pulping process with electron irradiation using biowaste (bagasse) as a raw material is discussed in this work. Bagasse pulping process is found to reduce about 50% of energy consumption during pulping process. The process is referred to as 'ECTMP' (Energy Efficient Chemi-Thermo Mechanical Pulping). The paper produced from aforesaid method also reflected no loss of strength properties with respect of TMP reference pulps. An energy audit is a primary step toward improving energy efficiency at the facility level and ensuring a clean production. The pulp and paper sector is one of the most energy-intensive industries in Morocco. This article aimed at identifying energy conservation opportunities at a Small and Medium-sized paper industry. The audit results together with their financial viability are presented regarding the analysis of energy consumption and electrical quality issues. The paper introduces an action plan for a more efficient energy use of some specific applications such as furnaces and compressed-air installations as well. The recommended energy efficiency measures have the potential of saving about 347.85 MWh of electrical energy and 101.78 MWh of thermal energy corresponding to reductions of 11.48% and 2.22%, respectively. The total investments related to the application of the action plan is approximately 290.53 kMAD and the global payback period does not exceed one year. [Display omitted] The global municipal solid waste (MSW) generation rate is 2.01 billion metric tonnes annually with an average of 0.74 kg waste/person/day. Approximately 92 % of the MSW originates from organics composition (e.g., food waste; plastic; paper; garden waste/woods, and textile), where 33 % of overall MSW is improperly managed in an efficient and environmentally safe manner. One of the promising methods to solve MSW management issues is to convert MSW into refuse-derived fuel (RDF) that can be used for the clinker burning process in cement kiln to replace the usage of fossil-based solid fuel. Thus, the potential of local MSW composition in energy recovery; suitability of RDF production technology; as well as international-industry requirement on RDF in co-processing and environmental concerns are discussed. Due to heterogeneous composition and sizes in nature, high moisture, and substantial amount of chloride content in MSW, it needs to undergo pre-treatment processes to enhance the RDF's physio-chemical properties that comply with RDF ASTM/EN standards, where expected high heating value (HHV) is > 20 MJ/kg, ash (<10 %), Chloride (Cl) (<0.80 – 1.00 %), Sulphate (S) (<1.50 %), Nitrate (N) (<1.00 %). As the development of upgraded MSW to RDF is still new in the commercial phase, there is minimal information and data on the techno-economic analysis, as well as recent industrial-scale of thermos-chemical conversion technologies for RDF preparation. Hence, the present work provides a clear picture on overview of municipal solid waste (MSW) generation, MSW composition, MSW pretreatment, and application as co-processing in cement industry are discussed. Besides, recent thermochemical upgrading process (torrefaction, dry carbonization, and hydrothermal carbonization) of MSW from R&D to commercial scale was further highlighted. In summary, this review serves as basic criterion and strategies to explore the new path of upgrading the waste into RDF for the purpose of sustainable energy recovery that adopting in circular carbon economy framework. Cellulose-based materials have attracted tremendous interest recently due to their fascinating merits of renewability, biodegradability, and low cost, holding great promise in electromagnetic protection, clean energy harvesting, and thermal management. However, the simple and effective integration of multiple functions into single cellulose material remains a challenge. Herein, we report the fabrication of a multifunctional and superhydrophobic cellulose composite paper (CCP) via coated MXene modified by in-situ polymerized polypyrrole and PDMS/candle soot on the opposite surface of the paper. CCP exhibits high-performance electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (~40 dB) while maintaining high electrical conductivity (1467 S/m). Moreover, the superhydrophobic surface of CCP can be used as the hydraulic triboelectric nanogenerator (H-TENG) to harvest water energy due to the liquid–solid contact triboelectrification and electrostatic induction. The hydraulic triboelectric energy can be captured and released when water droplets drop from a height of 2 cm and roll at a tilt angle of 20°, the output current can reach a peak of 0.8 nA. Furthermore, the surface saturation temperature of CCP can reach 140 °C with a low applied voltage of 6 V enabled by the Joule effect. In this work, a lightweight, ultrathin and flexible paper-based gel electrolyte is developed for liquid-free Al-air batteries, which employs a natural cellulose paper to store an alkaline gel. The as-fabricated electrolyte can be applied in either mechanical-rechargeable or single-use Al-air batteries, providing an open-circuit voltage (OCV) of 1.5 V and a peak power density around 3.5 mW cm−2. In addition, the battery discharge specific capacity is as high as 900 mA h g−1 even with low-purity Al. Moreover, a flexible Al-air battery can be obtained, which exhibits a stable performance under different bending angles. By optimizing the electrolyte properties including polymer concentration, gel loading and solution casting time, the battery power output can be further improved to 6.4 mW cm−2. Finally, two stacking strategies are investigated for developing Al-air battery packs, including both vertical stacking and planar stacking. Benefited from the complete ionic isolation among the single cells, both stacking strategies are demonstrated viable, with a normal OCV of 5.6 V for a 4-cell stack and a stacking efficiency as high as 87.5%. In the quest for sustainable energy, proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are emerging as a key technology due to their high efficiency and low pollutant emissions. However, the performance and longevity of PEMFCs rely heavily on effective water management within the gas diffusion layer (GDL). Traditional GDLs, comprised of carbon fiber paper treated with perfluorinated hydrophobic agents, suffered from environmental, economic, and performance limitations and exhibited unsatisfactory water regulation due to the surface hydrophobicity. To overcome these challenges, we have developed a fluorine-free bulk hydrophobic GDL with an interpenetrating network composed of graphene, cellulose fiber, and modified polypropylene fiber with impressive mechanical strength (22 MPa) and enhanced hydrophobicity without the use of harmful fluorinated agents through the scalable papermaking. The resulting GDL offers significantly improved PEMFC performance by enhancing water management, achieving a current density of 1.25 A cm−2 at 0.6 V and a maximum power density of 0.746 W cm−2. Furthermore, it exhibits superior water management capabilities compared to commercial GDL under high current density and demonstrates a more straightforward, less energy-intensive production process. Many proposals are being made for cleaner, more sustainable forms of energy production. Terrestrial solar photovoltaic farms (SPFs) could potentially deliver large quantities of energy to the grid, although these are limited to daytime use. The output from these SPFs could be enhanced, particularly around dawn and dusk, by the use of orbiting solar reflectors (OSRs) in near-polar orbit. These would reflect an image of the solar disk, or solar image (SI), onto the SPFs to augment their energy output. Pointing requirements are therefore to ensure that reflected sunlight is delivered to the terrestrial SPF, avoiding the losses incurred by an offset of the SI and the SPF itself. The SI would typically be of order 10 km for a reflector in a 1000 km orbit. Given the potentially large size of the reflectors, this presents a challenge for the attitude determination and control system (ADCS) to ensure that the maximum quantity of energy can be delivered to a SPF, typically requiring large control moment gyro actuators. In addition, there exist numerous sources of error in the ADCS which can cause further degradation in the quantity of energy delivered to the SPF. These errors can manifest in the resolution of the various sensors, flexible structural modes, manufacturing inaccuracies, and misalignments due to vibration during launch. This paper will investigate the effects of pointing error sources (PES) on the reflector ADCS and so on the quantity of energy delivered to the SPF. In the context of a microgrid, green hydrogen production from wind power was assessed in this paper. A Wind-Hydrogen Integrated Power Grid Model was employed to address the intermittent nature of wind energy resources. Wind power generation was analyzed and integrated with hydrogen production to contribute to sustainable energy solutions. Meticulous estimation and scenarios analysis were performed to quantify the potential of green hydrogen production capacity achievable through wind energy integration. Additionally, sensitivity analyses were conducted to enhance the understanding of the system's dynamics and potential challenges. Nowadays, grid power loss and power quality deterioration are causing many problems, especially for sensitive uses such as data centers, airports, healthcare, banking, insurance, and telecom. These issues must be resolved through energy continuity coverage and optimization. Dynamic voltage restorers (DVR) are generally used to mitigate network voltage disturbances and maintain a constant voltage value between load terminals for a short and limited duration due to limited energy storage facilities. However, this paper's proposed (DVR) system controlled by the adaptive-network fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) controller can compensate for prolonged power quality disturbances by integrating a hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) managed using classical Proportional Integral (PI) controller power management. This paper proposes a new (DVR) topology coupled with a hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) to exploit free and clean energy, consisting of a solar panel, a PEM fuel cell, and a battery storage device connected through DC-DC converters to a DC transmission, the obtained results from the simulation process of the proposed DVR system in the environment of MATLAB / Simulink showed the ability to eliminate sag that exceeded 0.9 pu in a period of more than 3 min and swells that exceeded 1.2 pu in a period that exceeded one minute. This paper explores the feasibility of utilizing lead-free multilayer piezo stacks, particularly focusing on Zr-doped 0.95(Bi 0. 5 Na 0.5)TiO 3 -0.05(BaTiO 3) piezoceramics, for energy harvesting. Various lead-free BNT-BT disk samples with different Zr concentrations undergo structural, microstructural, and electrical characterizations. The results illustrate that Zr-doping improves piezoelectric constitutive parameters, notably at a 2.0 mol% concentration. Electromechanical tests were conducted on multilayer piezo stacks, involving variations in electric load, mechanical load, frequency, and number of stacked disks. These tests demonstrate the ability of the multilayer transducer to produce up to 1.5 V (peak) under particular conditions: a 250 Hz frequency, a 10 N mechanical load, and an open circuit electric load, utilizing a stack comprising 5 disks. Employing an analytical mathematical model, an effective d 33 e f f of the system is determined, yielding values ranging from 588 to 625 pC/N for a stack composed of 5 disks. These findings highlight the considerable potential of lead-free multilayer piezo stacks in energy harvesting applications, offering crucial insights for the development of sustainable and eco-friendly energy solutions. Solar photovoltaic systems can reduce carbon emissions by harnessing green energy from the sunlight, however, tremendous end-of-life solar panels may pose a threat to the local environment in the coming decades. What's worse, fewer regulations have been mandated to deal with the disposal of solar waste. To address this issue, this paper investigates a game-based, government-subsidized solar recycling model, and extends the model to a dynamic system. By analyzing the equilibrium outcomes, optimal decisions are revealed for all stakeholders. More importantly, we find regulatory subsidies can benefit all members of the solar recycling chain. Furthermore, when confronted with low-quality solar panels with a high degradation rate, we suggest that the government announces a low R&D subsidy rate. Even so, the level of the manufacturer's R&D efforts is still high, which leads to more R&D subsidies provided by the government. Based on an analysis of the dynamic system, it's better to be extremely careful when the government enacts the subsidy policy. In a world increasingly dependent on green energy and interconnected systems, the energy security has become a top priority. Smart grid technology is one of the most important green innovations in this area. It promises efficient energy management and an increased use of renewable resources. However, given the various vulnerabilities in smart grids and the history of cyber-attacks on energy systems, securing their communications is becoming more important than ever. This article examines the importance of securing smart grid information systems. It also explores the similarities in structure and function between multi-agent systems and an interconnected Microgrids network in a smart grid environment. In addition, different types of cyber threats to smart grid information systems are discussed and various existing approaches for detecting and mitigating these attacks are outlined. Photovoltaic (PV) energy is a renewable source which provides clean energy in power systems. Because of low efficiency of energy conversion in PV systems, harvesting maximum power from these systems is important. Many papers have been focused on this challenge to obtain the maximum power from PV array. Sliding mode control is an efficient control method to achieve maximum power. Although, due to non-linear curve of P–V and I–V of PV array in one side and uncertain PV generated power due to climate and temperature conditions, different evolutionary algorithms must be applied for accurate maximum power point tracking. Perturbation and observation (P&O) is a well-known method in this field but it has some defects in case of shadow-condition multiple maxima. In this paper, considering analysis of two sliding mode control structures, modified particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm has been used in combination with modified P&O method called modified PSO-modified P&O (MPSO-MP&O) to compensate the problem of P&O tracking in shadow conditions. The proposed method selects the global maximum point by searching all maximum points in many iterations. Also, the achievement stability of the maximum point is interesting in different temperature conditions and sudden changes of physical parameters of PV system. This paper introduces an innovative solution for clean energy autonomous building (AB) sustainability, offering a 5Z concept—zero-carbon, zero-energy, zero grid connections, zero energy bills, and zero emission mobility. This paper focuses on fundamental research to design sustainable, energy-ABs striving for self-sufficiency in arid climates, using Kuwait as a case study. The study highlights the importance of stringent engineering AB modeling, renewable technology integration, and clean energy storage. The technical approaches include characterizing non-thermal and thermal demands, achieving net-zero energy generation, and custom sizing renewable energy and energy storage systems (ESS) for electric vehicle (EV) charging points. The research methodology involves local construction with yearly weather and energy profile data to simulate the actual system using ESP-r building model. The study's findings reveal the need for a large-scale energy system, energy demand reduction (EDR) inclusive of heating, cooling, appliances, and EV, with the corresponding changes in local energy production system size, battery capacity, and the number of photovoltaics (PVs). The results show varying EDR levels ranging from base case to 10% and to 50% leading to proportional changes in energy system size, size of battery from 3415 kWh to 1710 kWh and the number of PVs from 362 to 181, which means EDR not only optimizes space but also proves cost-effective. The significant implication of this study, not only bridging the knowledge gap and the lack of how-know, but also making a significant advancement and forward thinking in sustainable green electric home modernization and environmentally friendly transportation. Harmonizing the cleanliness and economics of energy is an effective means of integrating economic growth with carbon peaking goals, and realizing sustainable development in China. However, due to the existence of the energy trilemma, a worthwhile research question is how to fulfill the carbon peaking commitment while guaranteeing China's stable national development. Based on this, this paper not only discusses the nonlinear relationship between clean energy consumption transition and economic growth through threshold regression, but also simulates several scenarios of energy transition dynamics with different growth rates by using Oracle Crystal Ball software to forecast the future trend of China's carbon emissions up to 2030, aiming to find a transition scenario that can make the peak of carbon emissions appear without significant economic burden, so as to put forward countermeasures and suggestions to avoid falling into the energy trilemma in the process of fulfilling the commitment of carbon peaking. This paper finds that: firstly, there is an inverted U-shaped non-linear relationship between clean energy consumption transition and economic growth, with the inflection point of the inverted U-shape being 0.595; and secondly, only when energy transition exceeds 0.535 in 2030, the peak of carbon emissions (about 12,922.28 Mt) will occur. In summary, this paper argues that China should steadily advance energy transition, avoiding either too fast or too slow a pace (bring clean energy consumption transition to within the 0.535–0.595 range by 2030), in order to secure economic growth while honoring its commitment to peak carbon. Therefore, China should prudently design a coal exit strategy to avoid falling into the energy trilemma when promoting energy transition. Moreover, if China wants to further fulfill its commitment to carbon neutrality by 2060, it needs to continue to deepen the construction of green financial markets in order to better balance the relationship between energy cleanliness and economy. Seaports are responsible for consuming a large amount of energy and producing a sizeable amount of environmental emissions. However, optimal coordination and cooperation present an opportunity to transform this challenge into an opportunity by enabling flexibility in their generation and load units. This paper introduces a coordination framework for exploiting flexibility across multiple ports. The proposed method fosters cooperation between ports in achieving lower environmental emissions while leveraging flexibility to increase their revenue. This platform allows ports to participate in providing flexibility for the energy grid through the introduction of a green port-to-grid concept while optimising their cooperation. Furthermore, the proximity to offshore wind farms is considered an opportunity for the ports to investigate their role in harnessing green hydrogen. The proposed method explores the hydrogen storage capability of ports as an opportunity for increasing the techno-economic benefits, particularly through coupling them with offshore wind farms. Compared to existing literature, the proposed method enjoys a comprehensive logistics-electric model for the ports, a novel coordination framework for multi-port flexibility, and the potentials of hydrogen storage for the ports. The motivation of this paper is to investigate the resistance of countries' energy research and development (RD&D) expenditures to random shocks. The analysis includes the five countries (France, Germany, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom) that are the biggest investors in RD&D in fossil fuels, renewables, energy efficiency, and nuclear energy. Thus, economies will be able to take precautions against global shocks in producing sustainable energy policies. To achieve this aim, this paper uses the artificial neural network approach, which uses a distributed computing model that can store and generalize data after a learning period. This paper introduces an innovative probabilistic dynamic planning model tailored to optimize photovoltaic (PV) system installation within Residential Energy Hubs (REHs). The REH amalgamates diverse components, including PV systems, Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units, and gas boilers, to holistically fulfill residential thermal and electrical energy demands. The model's primary objective is to achieve an optimal equilibrium between minimizing initial investment costs associated with PV systems and managing ongoing energy expenses within the REH framework, encompassing potential PV energy losses over the planning horizon. To augment the flexibility and benefits of PV systems for residential consumers, the model integrates several pioneering features. Particularly notable is the introduction of a heating energy storage system, which complements the REH's thermal requirements and adeptly reacts to fluctuations in gas and electricity prices, thereby maximizing PV system benefits and ensuring homeowners' cost efficiency. In response to the obstacles posed by finite resources and environmental issues, Sarawak has transitioned its focus towards sustainable and green energy to establish a resilient and eco-friendly energy landscape. Generally, Sarawak is blessed with abundant green energy resources; however, constructive green energy integration methods were absent. Proper green energy integration is necessary due to its intermittent properties and geographical dispersion. Therefore, the paper proposes a novel methodology using Geographical Information System tools incorporating geographical databases, fuzzy logic operations and Traveling Salesman Problem-Binary Integer Programming algorithms to integrate green energies focusing on optimal power line routing design. The methodology begins with clustering the green energies based on geographical divisions. Then, it considers three influential factors (distance, elevation difference, and average ground flash density) and transforms them into matrix data for each cluster. Fuzzy logic operations optimize the trade-off among these factors and form fuzzy values. Following this, the Traveling Salesman Problem-Binary Integer Programming formulation creates pairs of green energy, distance vectors, equality constraints, and binary bounds. The optimization process constructs and eliminates multiple subtours to generate an optimal single loop with minimal value, representing the optimal power line routing design. Rigorous analyses, comparison, and validation demonstrate that the proposed method consistently outperforms ordinary Traveling Salesman Problem-Binary Integer Programming, ranking top 1 across all clusters. Further evaluation against the state-of-the-art fuzzy Traveling Salesman Problem algorithms reveals that the proposed model secures the lowest fuzzy values with extremely low computation times across all clusters. Residential consumers play an important role in the sustainable transition of the energy system by leveraging their household loads for demand response (DR). This paper aims to analyze the enrollment rates of residential consumers within DR through an agent-based model (ABM). Both economic and noneconomic (social/behavioral) parameters that influence the consumer enrollment in DR are considered. An energy management model, a home energy management system (HEMS), is used to identify the potential economic savings of consumers enrolling in DR. Consumers are randomly assigned to different neighborhoods and have different social relationships (e.g., friends, neighbors), which, in turn, influences their decision-making in the ABM. The results of this paper highlight the indirect relationship of expected annual savings and direct relationship of the share of consumers having electric vehicles (EV), photovoltaics (PV), and battery energy storage systems (BESSs) on the DR enrollment rates. Based on the enrollment rates, the maximum energy savings were obtained in April and the minimum during the last quarter of the year. Monte Carlo analysis is employed to handle the randomness associated with different variable selections, which provides a ± 10 % variation of consumer enrollment rate in DR. In recent decades, the use of fossil fuels has had a harsh impact on the climate, and the frequency and intensity of various extreme weather events have increased, which has triggered an increased the use of renewable energy sources and reflection on technological advances. Many countries are trying to promote renewable energy to reduce their impact on climate change, but the impact of national energy policies in the climate risk framework remains poorly understood. Based on the panel data of 84 developed/developing countries around the world from 2006 to 2019, this paper studies and analyzes the impact of renewable energy use on climate risk. The study found that the increase in the proportion of renewable energy use can reduce the climate risk, and this result is still robust after undergoing robustness tests such as changing variables, samples, and research methods. The findings offer an important solution for European countries, where climate risks are most acute. The heterogeneity analysis shows that the higher the level of economic development, population density and the lower the level of incorruptibility, the weaker the inhibitory effect of renewable energy use on climate risk. The mechanism analysis also shows that the increase in the proportion of renewable energy use can reduce climate risk by reducing carbon dioxide (CO 2), methane (CH 4), nitrogen monoxide (NO), PM2.5 emissions, and the proportion of fossil fuel use, but it does not reduce climate risk by increasing biodiversity. In particular, we find that technological progress has not played a role in the use of renewable energy to reduce climate risk, breaking the stereotype. The policy recommendation of this paper is that under the increasing pressure of climate change, the transition to clean energy is an indispensable option, and the need to accelerate the energy transition becomes more urgent. Photocatalysis is a reliable method to solve energy crisis and generate green energy hydrogen. ZnO@ZnS (ZOS) formed heterojunction repressed carrier complexation and thus enhanced photocatalytic performance, but its low photoresponse efficiency limited its photocatalytic performance. Therefore, in this paper, ZnO@ZnS was modified with ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) to form ZnO@ZnS@FeOOH composites with coupling interface. The modification of EDTA could inhibite the oxidation of FeOOH during the synthesis process, and what's more it could enhance the charge transfer at the heterojunction interface to promote the separation of electron-hole pairs and photoresponsive ability to further enhanced the hydrogen precipitation performance. The concentration of EDTA and Fe sources were regulated to investigate the photocatalytic hydrogen production capacity of the composites. The results indicated that the ternary composite ZnO@ZnS@FeOOH had the superior hydrogen evolution performance with the hydrogen evolution rate of 529.17 umol g−1 h−1, which was 2.4 times higher than that of ZOS. EDTA acts as an electron channel to enhance the inter-interfacial electron transfer capability, and the loading of FeOOH formed a heterojunction structure, which promoted carrier separation and enhanced the photoresponse. It's the synergistic effect to enhanced the photocatalytic hydrogen production performance. Timely monitoring of abnormal vibration of machinery in highly harsh environments is essential to ensure the safe operation of mechanical systems. This paper uses a self-charging power module to harvest energy to provide sustainable power for monitoring multidirectional ultra-low frequency mechanical vibrations. The power generation unit consists mainly of a spherical electromagnetic triboelectric hybrid nanogenerator (SETE-HNG). It is equipped with advanced sensing functions to support deep learning to identify signals with different directions of vibration, different frequencies, and different amplitudes of vibration, thereby enhancing the high-precision perception function. The accuracy of the prediction results is as high as 98.6622%, 100%, and 99.3333%, respectively. A Power Management Circuitry (PMC) has been meticulously crafted to maximize the utilization of vibrational energy. It efficiently charges a 40 mAh lithium polymer battery to 3.3 V in just 26 min, all without the requirement of an external power source. This advancement facilitates self-powered Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking of vibrational signals. Moreover, the stored energy is harnessed to energize a microcontroller and a low-power Bluetooth module. This enables real-time monitoring of mechanical vibrations via a mobile phone. Over the past few years, energy communities initiatives have gained traction in Europe as a means to achieve energy transition goals, allowing citizen involvement in energy production, consumption, and distribution. Following the 2018 European directive RED II, these projects have rapidly increased across the continent, showcasing their potential for creating sustainable local energy systems. While studies highlight economic, environmental, and social benefits, barriers such as regulatory challenges, finance access, and low public awareness remain. This paper presents the results of a systematic literature review that explores the state-of-the-art of the academic research on energy communities. The study adopts a systematic approach to examine the body of literature on the topic to provide a comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon on the basis of rigorous and replicable research criteria. The reviewed material consists of 140 articles collected through the Scopus database, evaluated using specific structural dimensions to group the literature into analytical categories. The analysis of scientific papers published between 2018 and 2022 shows a growing attention towards Renewable Energy Communities, particularly those based on solar energy for electricity production, often combined with storage systems and heat pumps, whereas attention towards energy communities based on thermal energy production is still limited. Furthermore, most scholars focused on analysing specific territorial contexts; comparisons between different regions allows to highlight common features and elements characterizing each model. It emerged that the development of energy communities depends mainly on regulatory, financial, and managerial barriers that require an adequate institutional and legal framework capable of promoting their diffusion. Most studies address the topic from an economic perspective, often in association with incentivizing community models. However, a social perspective should be included by introducing the concept of energy sharing and methodologies for its distribution among all members of the community. The scientific community is called upon to continue investigating and supporting the development of community energy initiatives by providing evidence-based recommendations to policymakers, industry stakeholders, and local communities. The exploitation of fossil fuels in various sectors, such as power and heat generation, and the transportation sector has been the primary source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which are the main contributors to global warming. Qatar's oil and gas sector notably contributes to CO 2 emissions, accounting for half of the total emissions. Globally, it is essential to transition into cleaner fossil fuel production to achieve carbon neutrality on a global scale. In this paper, we focus on clean hydrogen, considering carbon capture to make hydrogen a viable low carbon energy alternative for the transition to clean energy. This paper systematically reviews emerging technologies in carbon capture and conversion (CCC). First, the road map stated by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to reach carbon neutrality is discussed along with pathways to decarbonize the energy sector in Qatar. Next, emerging CO 2 removal technologies, including physical absorption using ionic liquids, chemical looping, and cryogenics, are explored and analyzed regarding their advancement and limitations, CO 2 purity, scalability, and prospects. The advantages, limitations, and efficiency of the CO 2 conversion technology to value-added products are grouped into chemical (plasma catalysis, electrochemical, and photochemical) and biological (photosynthetic and non-photosynthetic). The paper concludes by analyzing pathways to decarbonize the energy sector in Qatar via coupling CCC technologies for low-carbon hydrogen, highlighting the challenges and research gaps. The high-gain DC converter is a crucial step in the conversion process for raising the voltage from PV panels to the desired voltage level in renewable energy applications. This article proposes a three-phase grid connected PV system with a novel interleaved high gain DC converter fed 3-level Neutral-Point-Clamped (NPC) Inverter. The novel high-gain DC converter consists of an interleaved boost converter (IBC) at its input side, a switched capacitor cell, a passive clamp circuit, and a voltage multiplier unit (VMU). The interleaved arrangement eliminates the input current ripple, and the VMU is utilized to improve the overall voltage gain besides the reverse recovery problem of diodes. The proposed converter is operated at a duty cycle D = 0.6 and a high voltage conversion ratio of 17.5 which is ideal for sustainable energy applications. This paper uses the proposed converter for a grid-connected solar PV system with an NPC inverter controlled using Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) technique. The SVPWM strategic approach is a prevalent modulation technique for NPC inverter due to its extensibility in choosing the ideal voltage vectors. It uses an active filter, which is more dependable, dynamically better behaved, and capable of operating accurately under distorted grid voltages under varying load conditions. The proposed grid-associated PV system with a novel interleaved converter and 3-level NPC inverter is employed in Matlab/SimPower System and experimentally verified. Power loss and efficiency calculations were performed on the DC converter side, and the efficiency was 96.07%. NPC inverters have a THD of 22.2%. Results from simulations and experiments indicate that the suggested topology can efficiently extricate the maximal amount of power from PV modules and inject energy into the grid system with excellent steady-state and dynamic performance. Evaluating and forecasting stability across different conditions is essential since smart grid stabilization is among the most significant characteristics that could be employed to assess the functionality of smart grid design. Some intelligent methods to foresee stability are required to mitigate unintended instability in a smart grid design. This is due to the rise in domestic and commercial constructions and the incorporation of green energy into smart grids. It is currently hard to forecast the stability of the smart grid. In this framework, a smart grid with reliable mechanisms is being implemented to meet the fluctuating energy demands as well as providing more availability. The involvement of consumers and producers is one of the many factors influencing the grid's stability. This study suggested a novel approach for locating stability statistics in smart grid systems utilizing machine learning frameworks was presented. This paper outlined the multi-layer perceptron-Extreme Learning Machine (MLP-ELM) methodology to predict the sustainability of the smart grid. Additionally, this utilized the principal component analysis (PCA) approach for extracting features. In addition to an empirical assessment and a comparison to various approaches, this article presents an implementation result for smart grid stability. Simulation findings demonstrate that the suggested MLP-ELM approach outperforms traditional machine learning techniques, with accuracy reaching up to 95.8%, precision at 90%, recall at 88%, and F-measure at 89%. As power systems around the world are rapidly evolving to achieve decarbonization objectives, it is crucial that power system planners and operators use appropriate models and tools to analyze and address the associated challenges. This paper provides a detailed overview of the properties of power market models in the context of the clean energy transition. We review common power market model methodologies, their readiness for low- and zero‑carbon grids, and new power market trends. Based on the review, we suggest model improvements and new designs to increase modeling capabilities for future grids. The paper highlights key modeling concepts related to power system flexibility, with a particular focus on hydropower and energy storage, as well as the representation of grid services, price formation, temporal structure, and the importance of uncertainty. We find that a changing resource mix, market restructuring, and growing price uncertainty require more precise modeling techniques to adequately capture the new technology constraints and the dynamics of future power markets. In particular, models must adequately represent resource opportunity costs, multi-horizon flexibility, and energy storage capabilities across the full range of grid services. Moreover, at the system level, it is increasingly important to consider sub-hourly time resolution, enhanced uncertainty representation, and introduce co-optimization for dual market clearing of energy and grid services. This study aims to investigate the factors of renewable energy consumption in the fifth Technology Revolution with specific evidence from ASEAN countries. The study applies an autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach. The paper also uses the unrestricted fixed and random panel data methods. The manuscript identifies significant factors such as technological innovation, governmental policies, public awareness, electricity consumption, country population, foreign direct investment inflows, imports, exports, and economic growth that have influenced the renewable energy sector in these nations. This study also investigates the determinants that influence renewable energy in the context of international integration and the fifth technology revolution in ASEAN countries. The research analyzes data spanning two decades, from 2000 to 2022, through a combination of econometric modeling and machine learning techniques. The present paper reviews the green hydrogen uptake policies in the United States and the European Union. While the EU has a rather broad public support strategy that envisages the entire hydrogen value chain, the U.S. policies are more focused on hydrogen research hubs and subsidies having electric vehicle applications. From the experience of the solar and wind power rollout of the past three decades, we know that the subsidization schemes of the end product play an important role in the transition to renewables. These kinds of subsidization schemes are still lacking for clean hydrogen both in the EU and the U.S. This paper provides a brief overview of selected subsidization schemes from other renewables markets, which are then applied to define an exemplary subsidization path to empower large-scale growth in a market for green hydrogen. Here is proposed a long-term subsidization scheme – deemed as an adequate strategy for the expansion of clean hydrogen in an electricity mix. Pretreatment of biomass using dilute acids is the most common technique to destroy the complicated structure of lignocellulosic biomass. Mesophilic temperatures (37 °C), HRT of 72 h, and pH near 7.0, are recurrent parameters of biomass fermentation. The combined approach of electro-fermentation and dark fermentation produces a higher yield of biohydrogen compared to the single dark fermentation. Furthermore, additives (mainly iron-based materials) have been investigated to improve the efficiency of biomass pretreatment as well as biohydrogen production. Finally, this paper points out that the vigorous development of novel engineered strains is an important part of achieving commercial-scale production of biohydrogen. Overall, considerable efforts are needed from both technical and managing aspects to achieve a full-scale application of biohydrogen production to make this technology economical, efficient and sustainable. Under the goal of global carbon reduction, hydropower-wind-photovoltaic complementary operation (HWPCO) in the clean energy base (CEB) has become the key to achieving a high-quality clean energy supply. However, stochastic wind power and photovoltaic need the help of adjustable hydropower to get onto the grid in the HWPCO process, which makes the conflict between different power generation entities more and more complex. This paper takes Yalong River CEB as the research object and sets up the separate operation scenario and complementary operation scenario of hydropower stations and wind-photovoltaic plants. Meanwhile, the corresponding day-ahead schedule model considering the stability of the power system is established. On this basis, this paper analyzes changes in profit and loss indexes of each power generation entity and clarifies the profit and loss relationship of different power generation entities in the CEB. Further, based on the model group for quantifying contributions and the compensation electricity contribution value, this paper proposes the benefit compensation mechanism between the cascade hydropower station and wind-photovoltaic plants and the benefit compensation mechanism between each hydropower station within the cascade hydropower station. The main results of the research are as follows: (1) after HWPCO, the total revenue of wind-photovoltaic plants increases by 61.48 million RMB (8.61 million dollars), and the total revenue of the cascade hydropower station decreases by 10.77 million RMB (1.51 million dollars), which means wind-photovoltaic plants are the beneficiary and the cascade hydropower station is the loss. (2) after the benefit compensation, the total revenue of wind-photovoltaic plants increases by 20.97 million RMB (2.94 million dollars), and the total revenue of the cascade hydropower station increases by 29.74 million RMB (4.16 million dollars) compared with the hydropower-wind-photovoltaic separate operation (HWPSO). The OECD community consumes excessive amounts of raw materials and materials, which leads to pollution and increases the material footprint. The material footprint is directly linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-8 and 12. The main reason for the material footprint is the usage of fossil fuels, and the dependence of OECD countries on fossil fuels continues to this day. By expanding renewable energy utilization due to rising energy security risk, a community can take steps to improve ecological quality and reduce its material footprint. In this context, the paper focuses to examine the impact of energy security, green innovation, economic policy stringency and income on the fossil fuel material footprint for 24 OECD countries over the period 1995–2018. To this end, the paper uses the Augmented Mean Group (AMG) method and novel Half Panel Jackknife (HPJ) causality and estimation approach. The study adds value to existing knowledge by empirically testing the determinants of fossil fuel material footprint for OECD countries for the first time using the novel HPJ approach. The results of the AMG show that increasing energy security risk index reduces the material footprint, while green innovation and economic policy stringency have no impact on environmental degradation. The environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) in the form of an inverted U and an inverted N are valid for OECD countries. The HPJ approach also illustrates that there is a causality from green innovation and energy security risk to material footprint, and innovation and risk are support footprint reduction. Based on these results, the study recommends that OECD policymakers pay attention to ensuring energy security to reduce the material footprint by expanding renewable resources and allocate more economic resources to green innovations with higher returns, considering the validity of the EKC. As clean energy technologies proliferate globally, demand for critical minerals has surged, sparking widespread concern about the security of the critical minerals supply chain. However, given the traditional scientometric methods lack of consideration of the importance of keywords and thematic analysis means cannot adaptively extract the core theme, this paper extracts the literature related to critical mineral supply chain security (CMSCS) from the Web of Science literature database system during 1995–2022. We first use scientometrics to analyze the publication volume, author collaboration, institutional collaboration, and national collaboration of CMSCS; secondly, we use cosine distance and nearest neighbor classification algorithms to analyze the dynamic development status of CMSCS, and finally, we utilize the TF-IDF algorithm and the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) text mining method to model the topics in this field. The results show that (1) global research on CMSCS is rapidly developing. China currently has the most literature in the field of CMSCS. The US, China, and the United Kingdom have the most influential research. (2) The authors collaborated to form nine core teams. The core institutions are the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Politecnico di Milano. Most collaborative teams or institutions have strong internal collaborative links. (3) The research hotspots of CMSCS are influenced by national policies, technological development, and social consumption demand, "circular economy", "lithium battery", "recycling potential", and "recycling technology" are the directions that need to be focused on in the future. (4) Supply chain risk assessment, resilience enhancement, and recycling are important topics for future research in this field. In addition, future research on CMSCS should focus on assessing the vulnerability, resilience, and robustness of the critical mineral supply chain from the perspective of the "whole chain" to ensure the security of the global critical mineral supply chain. In addition, in order to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of the solution, this paper improves the traditional NSGA-II algorithm, greatly improving the overall performance of the algorithm. Everyday life and the workings of the economy depend on reliable and affordable energy services, such as electricity supply. Guaranteeing universal access to sustainable energy services is fundamental for socioeconomic development. This paper assessed the implementation of the sustainable development goal in the European Union countries in the seventh area "Affordable and clean energy" out of seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDG7) formulated in the document "Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development". To assess the implementation of the seventh objective, the VMCM method was used, which allows for the ranking and classification of objects described with many features as representing the dynamics of changes in the studied phenomenon. As a result, each EU country was assigned to one of four classes appointed by the level of goal achievement SDG7. The country with the highest value of level of goal were assigned to Class 1, while those measured the lowest were assigned to Class 4. Wind energy is a clean, renewable and green energy. Compared to land-based wind power, offshore wind power does not occupy land resources. Meanwhile offshore wind resources is much richer and its wind direction is more stable. Meteorological hazards have a major impact on offshore wind facilities. Typhoons, lightning, rainstorms and other meteorological hazards that occur during operation can not only cause fatal damage to offshore wind facilities, but often also trigger a chain reaction of marine hazards, making them more difficult to maintain. In this paper, we analyze the impact of various types of meteorological hazards on offshore wind facilities with examples and select the most important ones. A comprehensive risk assessment model CVAR for offshore wind projects is developed in combination with other types of risk elements to predict the damaging of offshore wind facilities so that managers can respond in a timely manner. Many rural locations are far from the utility grid, and supplying electricity from clean and renewable resources is essential. In the stand-alone system, the cost of electricity is expensive due to the cost of the battery system. All daily energy flows to the inverter through the battery in the traditional system, making the battery system expensive. In the present paper, a new configuration for power assessment is proposed that allows the energy to flow to the inverter directly without passing through the battery resulting in lower storing capacity and cost. The novelty is using the new configuration and designing the PV system customized to the load demand. The design and economic analysis of the proposed system are performed for three different load patterns in Siwa Oasis – Egypt. Results show the proposed power assessment method has a considerable impact on the minimization of the overall cost since the energy storing capacity is reduced, and a reduction in PV generation is obtained depending on the type of load pattern. Meeting the load growth and limiting the pollution level of fossil fuel based power generation are global challenges. One solution is to integrate clean and renewable energy sources to the power system. However high penetration of renewable energy sources can affect transmission line thermal limits and harmonics injection in the system. This paper illustrates the optimal location of Photovoltaic (PV) plant penetration in power system. The objective is to minimize real power system losses. This analysis is subjected to transient stability as well as individual and total harmonic distortion level constraints. IEEE 30 bus system is considered for such investigation by using Electrical Transient and Analysis Program (ETAP 19.5). Multi case capability of ETAP was the base of the analysis. The contribution of this paper is the consideration of the accumulated impact of transmission losses, transient stability, transmission line thermal limits, harmonic level and steady state voltage limits. The combination of IoT and power grid is known as a smart grid. The main concept behind smart grid is the distributed generation. Contrary to the conventional grids, distributed generation introduces small and decentralized power plants allocated near or at the end-user location. This paper discusses the existing applications of IoT technology in power industry and analyzes their possible implementations in Kazakhstan. Moreover, the paper discusses the challenges and future directions in developing Ru-based electrocatalysts for HER, emphasizing the need for further research in catalyst design, performance optimization, and cost-effectiveness. Li-Ion batteries are among the key enablers of more sustainable use of energy. However, they need to be supervised and undergo continuous maintenance to assure safety and longevity. This paper focuses on the sensorless detection of the State of Temperature (SOT) of the Li-ion batteries during the operational life cycle of the battery irrespective of its state of charge. The paper presents the new Intelligent Gray Box Model (IGBM) to detect the SOT of Li-ion cells: that combines the three most powerful diagnostic tools Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Equivalent Circuit Model (ECM), and Artificial Neural Network Classifier (NNC). The work introduces the experimental test bench capable of emulating real-world and embedded constraints to conduct EIS onboard, its data preprocessing, and useful information extraction for the entire frequency spectrum. Furthermore, this paper presents a new hybrid parameter identification that combines the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) and Levenberg Marquardt algorithm (LM) to identify the fractional order ECM. Finally, a neural network classifier is designed, optimized, and compared with different feature scaling techniques to evaluate its accuracy and robustness to detect and classify exact battery temperatures in real time from experimental data. Green total factor productivity is a vital measure of sustainable progress, holding immense implications for attaining both economic growth and environmental preservation in a mutually beneficial manner. Focusing on green total factor productivity, this paper examines its nexus with low-carbon energy technology using the Instrumental Variable Generalized Method of Moments (IV-GMM) model, based on a panel dataset in China during 2005–2018. This paper also examines the asymmetric impact of low-carbon energy technology on green total factor productivity. In addition, the moderating and mediating effects are checked. The main findings are that (1) low-carbon energy technology is a promoting factor for green total factor productivity. (2) Low-carbon energy technology exerts a more prominent marginal impact on green total factor productivity when green total factor productivity is at higher quantile levels. (3) Renewable energy generation not only drives green total factor productivity directly, but also further increases the promotion effect of low-carbon energy technology on green total factor productivity, showing a positive moderating role. (4) Energy structure transition and industrial structure transition are two internal impact mechanisms between low-carbon energy technology and green total factor productivity. Air conditioning (AC) has become the fastest-growing energy end-use in buildings worldwide, and its adoption is expected to increase further due to various socioeconomic factors and climate change. Despite this, the decarbonization of space cooling is progressing slowly; hence, the emissions burden at each stage should be examined in detail. Given this context, it is crucial to assess the environmental performance of AC systems by considering a comprehensive approach like the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). While several studies have already targeted the LCA of AC systems, a clear overview of those studies' methodologies, assumptions, and results is still lacking. Therefore, this systematic review examined the methods and key findings of 41 peer-reviewed articles. Although the results revealed discrepancies among the goals and scope, impact assessment methods, and indicators, most articles predominantly focused on the global warming potential (GWP) impact, and its reported quantification was further analyzed. It was observed that grid-connected vapor-compression heat pumps/chillers (conventional systems) presented higher GWP impacts than other AC systems powered by renewables, which in contrast, exhibited higher impacts in some toxicity and resource depletion-related indicators. However, the share of GWP showed different distributions, as the pre-operation emissions of solar-powered AC systems (either PV or thermal) were higher than those of conventional systems, mainly driven by reduced energy consumption usage. This review concludes with some recommendations for each stage of the life cycle. Since the operation phase generally showed the highest impact, more efforts should be devoted to accelerating the transition to a 100% clean electricity power system at a national scale.
