Severe air pollution in China and India threatens the health of over one-third of the global population. When it comes to air pollution governance, the two countries have vastly different approaches. China's approach features centralized target-setting and implementation, with policies enforced primarily through top-down administrative lines. While India's approach reflects the division of power among central and state governments and relies substantially on legislative and judiciary systems for accountability. We conduct a detailed review of the trends and sources of six air pollutants in China and India, and make a structured comparison of China and India's air pollution policy frameworks. An extensive literature review is conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of policies in each country. The studies show that China's policy efforts have achieved significant improvements in air quality, while India's policies have been largely ineffective. Nevertheless, both approaches have the potential to lead to effective air pollution governance, if a country can build strong political will and clearly defined accountability systems. We further identify key lessons learned from the two countries for air pollution policymaking in developing countries, including taking good advantage of "post-crisis policy window", and targeting "low-hanging fruits" to make incremental improvements in a cost-effective way. • We systematically reviewed and compared air pollution governance in China and India. • China and India have similar policy frameworks but different implementation approaches. • Strong political will and clearly defined accountability systems are key to success. • We provide insights into effective air pollution control in developing countries. Micro-organisms on the eggshell surface of affect the quality of the egg. Sometimes, these microbes even pose a serious threat to the health of the egg's consumer. Bacterial 16S rDNA and fungal internal transcribed spacer region were sequenced to analyze the microbial diversity on the shell surface of the eggs collected from 4 distinct regions of China: Guyuan (GY ; 1.5 million hens), Langfang (LF ; 0.1 million hens), Beihai (BH ; 1.2 million hens), and Dongguan (DG ; 0.2 million hens). The results showed a higher bacterial and fungal abundance on the eggs collected from the northern and southern China farms, respectively. The dominant bacterial phylum detected across all egg samples was Firmicutes. In addition, the shell surfaces of the DG and LF samples harbored abundant levels of Proteobacteria. The dominant fungal phyla detected across all egg samples were Ascomycota and Basidiomycota. The bacterial compositions on eggshell surfaces differed significantly across all geographic regions, and the fungal composition differed significantly between samples collected from the southern and northern farms (P < 0.05). The abundance and composition of microbial colonies on the eggshell surface varied based on their geographical location (climate and environment) and farming scale (management). The aim of this study was to investigate the genomic epidemiology of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in China to identify predominant lineages and their associations with clinical data and antimicrobial resistance profiles. We performed a national prevalence study of patients with S. aureus infections in 22 tertiary hospitals in China from 2015 to 2017. Clinical data from patients and the antimicrobial phenotypes were collected for each isolate. Genome sequencing was performed on a proportion of isolates and a phylogenetic analysis was undertaken. Genotypic and phenotypic β-lactam susceptibilities were compared. A total of 1900 patients with S. aureus infections were included, of which 40% involved MRSA. Community-associated MRSA (CA-MRSA) infections were 24% of the total isolates. Genomic data showed that more than three-quarters of the MRSA were from three dominant lineages CC239 (25%, 116/471), CC5 (21%, 96/471) and CC59 (33%, 154/471) with CC59 accounting for more than half of the CA-MRSA isolates. Penicillin susceptibility genomic features were observed in 53% (251/470) of MRSA, including almost all of the CC59 (152/154) lineage, and 96% (242/251) of these isolates demonstrated in vitro susceptibility to penicillin or amoxicillin combined with clavulanic acid. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the CC59 lineage can be divided into six lineages with all Asian CC59 isolates likely arising from an ancestral Mainland China lineage. This study showed a high prevalence of CA-MRSA in China, largely due to the widespread presence of CC59. As almost all isolates in this lineage possess genetic variants leading to increased β-lactam susceptibility, we suggest that to improve antibiotic stewardship combinations of penicillins and β-lactamase inhibitors should be included in the antibiotic susceptibility testing panels used to inform treatment decisions and research undertaken on this combination therapy. • The principle of difference information and the principle of minimum information are discussed. • The proposed method can deal with the environment problem in other regions. • The unequal adjacent accumulation multivariate grey model is used to forecast the public concern about air pollution. In grey theory, the principle of difference information holds that difference is information. To mine the difference information between data, the unequal accumulation is proposed in this paper. The unequal accumulation reduces the loss of difference information and improves the forecasting performance of the grey model. Based on the unequal accumulation, the unequal adjacent discrete multivariable grey model is proposed. According to the comparison with other models, the proposed model has good forecast performance and algorithm efficiency. To further prove the practical significance of the model, it is used to predict the public concern about air pollution in three cities of China. The results show that the public concern about air pollution in cities with different air pollution conditions is quite different. Causes of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have not been fully understood. Previous studies have linked environmental factors with ASD. However, evidence for the greenness-ASD association is limited, especially in China. To fill this gap, we conducted a matched case-control study to examine the association between greenness and ASD in China. Participants in this study were 84,934 children aged 3−12 years in Shanghai, China, selected using a multi-stage cluster sampling method. ASD cases were firstly screened by questionnaires completed by both children's parents and teachers, and were then confirmed by clinical examinations. Further, 10 healthy controls were randomly selected to match each ASD case by age and sex. The final analyses included 146 ASD cases and 1460 healthy controls. Participants' exposure to greenness before and after birth was assessed by normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and enhanced vegetation index (EVI) from NASA's Earth Observing System according to their residential locations. We used conditional logistic regression to examine the ASD-greenness association. Per interquartile range (IQR) increase in EVI 500m and NDVI 500m during the year before birth were associated with lower risks of ASD with adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of 0.96 (95%CI: 0.946, 0.975, IQR = 0.074) and 0.937 (95%CI: 0.915, 0.959, IQR = 0.101). Exposure to greenness during the first 3 years after birth was also significantly associated with lower risk of ASD [IQR ORs for EVI 500m and NDVI 500m were 0.935 (95%CI: 0.91, 0.962, IQR = 0.06) and 0.897 (95%CI: 0.861, 0.935, IQR = 0.09), respectively]. Air pollution showed mediation effects on thegreenness-ASD association. Greenness was observed to have stronger beneficial effects on children without historical diseases and term birth. More greenness exposure before and after birth were significantly associated with lower risks of ASD in children. Our results highlight the importance of greenness in urban planning. In the face of conflicting land-resource supply and demand, land-use efficiency is critical for sustainable urbanization. In this study, we unified the consistent boundaries of land, population, and economic development, identified urban expansion patterns (infilling, edge expansion and leapfrogging), and precisely estimated urban land-use efficiency (ULUE) in 260 Chinese cities from the perspective of dynamic expansion during 2000–2015. With the consideration of the dynamics of outward expansion and internal development of urban land, the results showed that China's main expansion pattern gradually shifted from edge expansion with lower ULUEs to infilling with higher ULUEs. Over the 15-year period, ULUEs in all expansion areas increased from 0.065–0.18 to 0.093–0.31. Inequity remained significant in terms of expansion patterns, built-up layers, regions and urban sizes. ULUE increased more quickly in the super-large cities of the central and western regions, whereas it increased more slowly in the northeast and even decreased in expansion built-up area formed during 2005–2010 (EBUA (2005–2010)). Importantly, ULUE decreased in most cities with edge expansion. • Ecological security were assessed by building ecosystem health framework. • Ecosystem health index were used to identify ecological source. • Ecological corridors, nodes and barrier were identified using circuit theory. With the rapid development of the social economy, habitat fragmentation is becoming more and more obvious, which seriously threatens regional ecological security and sustainable development. Understanding the ecological health status of mountainous cities is of great significance for improving the efficiency of ecological protection. However, the research on the ecosystem health and ecological network construction of mountain cities is still limited. Given the shortcomings of the research, this study constructed an ecosystem health assessment framework in Qujing City, identifying ecological sources with the help of health diagnosis results, simulating biological walking paths with circuit theory, and identifying ecological "nodes" and barrier points. The results showed that: (1) From 2000 to 2020, the ecosystem health level of Qujing City increased first and then decreased. The ecological risk spillover phenomenon existed in the urban center area, which was strongly affected by human activities. (2) Based on VORE model and landscape connectivity software consensus, 27 ecological sources were mainly composed of forest and grassland, and the total area was 7068.24 km2. (3) 53 ecological corridors were identified by the circuit theory, with a length of 734.33 km, 83 ecological sandwichs, a total area of 58.59 km2, and 49 ecological barrier points, among which the ecological sandwichs mostly coincided with the river corridor. The barrier points were concentrated in the north and southeast of the study area. This study can provide a scientific reference for the ecological restoration of mountainous cities. Accelerating the energy transition of rural households in mountainous areas is an important step to improve energy poverty and mountain ecosystems and to help achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. This paper explores the transformation of rural cooking energy in mountainous areas based on field investigation data from six villages in Chongqing. It systematically reveals the transformation process, driving factors and carbon emission changes in household cooking energy consumption in mountainous areas in the past 20 years by using mathematical statistics, multinomial logit models and the emission coefficient method. The results are as follows. (1) There has been a significant transition in the consumption of rural household cooking energy in mountainous areas. There has been a significant change in the proportion of different energy sources, including fuelwood (59.2%–1.9%), coal (16.5%–0%), gas (12.6%–15.5%), natural gas (6.8%–51.5%) and electricity (4.9%–31.1%). (2) The main driving factors of the household cooking energy transition in mountainous areas are income per capita, householder age, and householder education level. (3) The average annual household carbon emissions from rural household cooking energy decreased remarkably. The average annual household carbon emissions decreased from 6.80 t to 2.62 t in fuelwood (5.40–0.91 t), electricity (0.19–1.28 t) and natural gas (0.03–0.25 t) emissions during the study period. The contribution of this study is to investigate how the household cooking energy transition contributes to carbon peaking and carbon neutrality from a micro perspective. At the same time, this paper explores the mechanisms between the cooking energy transition and the ecological dividend of urbanization and proposes future reform initiatives for rural energy in mountainous areas to help achieve the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. Abstract: Objective: To survey the clinical epidemiology and correlations between pathology and clinical features of major groups of kidney diseases in a rural area of China. Methods: From January 1996 to December 2010, histologic diagnosis of renal disease was made on samples collected from 919 patients from a single center in the midland rural area of China. Demographic data were obtained from all patients, and clinical profiles were analyzed in 917 patients. Results: The mean age of the whole group was 33.13 (14.13) years (range 16–72 years). Men accounted for 55.28% (n = 508) and women made up 45.72% (n = 408). Patients aged 16 to 50 years comprised 83.75% of the sample (n = 770). Lupus nephritis was the predominant diagnosis in women; renal diseases were predominant in men. In patients with nephrotic syndrome, mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis was the most frequent pathologic pattern (39.46%), followed by IgA nephropathy (18.39%), whereas in patients with nephritic syndrome, IgA nephropathy (39.64%) was the most frequent pathologic pattern, followed by mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis (32.38%). The most common pathologic pattern in patients with secondary glomerulonephritis was Henoch-Schoˇnlein purpura nephritis, followed by lupus nephritis. Conclusions: Mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis was the most common renal pathologic pattern. Male adolescents were predominant in this group of patients. Objective: To investigate the occurrence of important foodborne pathogens in shellstock Pacific oysters in the food markets in South China. Methods: From July 2007 to June 2008, retail oysters were collected in different seasons from South China and analyzed for the prevalence and levels of Listeria monocytogenes, Vibrio vulnificus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Results: None of L. monocytogenes could be detected in any of the 202 oyster samples tested, while V. vulnificus and V. parahaemolyticus could be detected in 67 (54.9%) and 109 (89.3%) of the 122 oyster samples analyzed, respectively, with an MPN (most probable number) value greater than or equal to 3. V. vulnificus and V. parahaemolyticus with a more than 102 MPN/g were found in 36 (29.5%) and 59 (48.4%) of the 122 oyster samples, respectively. The tdh and trh genes were detected in 4 (0.3%) and 8 (0.6%) of the 1 349 V. parahaemolyticus isolates, respectively. Of the 122 samples, 4 (3.3%) was positive for either tdh or trh. The levels of V. vulnificus and total V. parahaemolyticus in oysters in South China varied in different seasons. Conclusion: V. vulnificus and pathogenic V. parahaemolyticus are frequently found in oysters in south China, which may pose a potential threat to public health. Miscanthus has good tolerance to heavy metals (HMs) and has received increasing attention in studies of HM-contaminated soil remediation. In this study, four Miscanthus cultivars (M. lutarioriparius Xiangnadi NO4, M. sinensis Xiangmang NO1, M. lutarioriparius × M. sinensis hybrid Xiangzamang NO1, and M. floridulus Wujiemang NO1) that grow in China were studied. Their tolerance and enrichment abilities in soils containing 50 mg kg−1 cadmium (Cd) and the structure and function of their rhizosphere bacterial communities during the remediation process were analyzed. The results exhibiting a tolerance index (TI) higher than 75 in roots and the aboveground parts (TI > 60, indicating highly tolerant plants) indicated that all four Miscanthus cultivars were tolerant to high Cd concentrations. Moreover, Cd was mainly enriched in roots, the translocation ability from roots to aboveground parts was weak, and the four cultivars exhibited phytostabilization ability in Cd-contaminated soils. High-throughput sequencing (HTS) analysis showed that the Miscanthus rhizosphere bacterial community comprised 33 phyla and 446 genera, including plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPRs), such as Bacillus , Sphingomonas , and Mesorhizobium. The addition of Cd affected the Miscanthus rhizosphere bacterial community and reduced community diversity. Phylogenetic molecular ecological networks (pMENs) indicated that Cd addition reduced interactions between Miscanthus rhizosphere bacteria and thereby led to a simpler network structure, increased the number of negative-correlation links, enhanced the competition between rhizosphere bacterial species, reduced the number of key bacteria, and changed the composition of those bacteria. PICRUSt functional predictive analysis indicated that Cd stress reduced soil bacterial functions in the Miscanthus rhizosphere. The results of this study provide a basis for the remediation of Cd-contaminated soils by Miscanthus and provide a reference for the subsequent regulation of Miscanthus remediation efficiency by PGPRs or key bacteria. Rangeland degradation in China has significant impacts both on the ecosystem and on the pastoralists' life. However, the emphasis of current management practice is always put on the rangeland with serious degradation problem. How to effectively avoid the degradation risks is still unclear. Thus, an integrated approach for rangeland degradation risk assessment was designed, consisting of the analysis of vegetation dynamics, driving forces identification and degradation risk prediction. Firstly, Vegetation Indexes and field survey data were applied to build regression model to calculate the vegetation coverage status and trend of change in each grid. Secondly, the important driving forces of rangeland dynamics were identified based on the local knowledge and objective data. Thirdly, Bayesian Belief Network (BBN) was trained in each seasonal rangeland to predict the probability of rangeland degradation in each grid. Rangeland degradation in Burqin County, Xinjiang, China was served as a case to test the practicability of this approach. The results indicated that during 2000 and 2013 most of the rangeland grids remained stable. Twelve factors were identified to be the driving force of the trend of vegetation coverage dynamics. BBNs showed that in most of the study area degradation risk was less than 50%, and the grids facing the maximum risk were only appeared in a small range. According to the case study, the integrated approach based on Random Forest and BBN model was turned out to be a practical and effective tool for the risk assessment of rangeland degradation. Under the background of "double carbon", ecological water has become one of the significant resources to ensure the healthy and sustainable development of the regional ecological environment. And the ecological water consumption prediction is a prerequisite for optimizing water supply structures. Considering the impact of CO 2 emissions on ecological water consumption, the FGM(1,1) model was firstly used to predict CO 2 emissions considered as an impact factor in this paper. Then, an adjacent accumulative grey multivariate convolution model (AGMC(1,N)) was combined with the Average Weakening Buffer Operator (AWBO) to predict the annual ecological water consumption of 30 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) in China. The results show that the AGMC(1,N) model combined with the AWBO has better prediction effect. In addition, in the next decade, only six provinces in the northern region will have a decreasing trend in ecological water consumption. However, the other provinces are showing an upward trend. The ecological water consumption trends deviate from the CO 2 emission trends in 12 provinces. • This study characterized the complete genome of an ST338 CA-MRSA strain isolated from a patient in China. • ST59 and ST338 MRSA are closely related in both phenotype and genotype, revealing a limitation of MLST in identifying similarities among isolates having different sequence types. • ST59 and ST338 MRSA may be transmitted among the communities of Taiwan and the Chinese mainland. To determine the molecular characteristics of a sequence type 338 community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) strain and the relationship among MRSA strains from various lineages and areas. Whole-genome sequencing, genomic comparison, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and hemolysis analysis were performed to identify the resistance determinants and virulence factors of strain ZY05 and the relationships among CC59 clones. MRSA strain ZY05 was resistant to tetracycline, erythromycin, and clindamycin, and the resistance genes erm (B) and tet (K) were detected in the genome. ZY05 harbors the genomic islands νSaα, νSaβ, νSaγ, and ΦSa2, the pathogenicity island νSa1, and virulence factors such as Panton–Valentine leukocidin, phenol-soluble modulins, alpha-hemolysin, enterotoxin B, enterotoxin K, and enterotoxin Q, which are the same as those present in ST59 strains. In addition, the virulence potential of ST338 did not differ from that of ST59. This strain contains the staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCC mec) type V T , a distinct SCC mec type previously reported from Taiwan. The results of core genome multilocus sequence typing (cgMLST) analysis showed that the gene distances between ST59 and ST338 were close among CC59 isolates, while strains from Taiwan were identical to isolates from the Chinese mainland with respect to these two sequence types. The ST338 strain ZY05, which has a close genetic relationship to ST59 strains, is multidrug-resistant and highly virulent. With the rapid economic growth, people's need for environment and atmospheric qualities is getting higher. The Chinese government is taking active measures to deal with it, and the scientific evaluation of atmospheric emission efficiency is necessary for atmospheric environment management. Concerning this reason, this paper uses the non-radial DEA model and the PS (Phillips and Sul) convergence test to study the atmospheric emission efficiency and spatial convergence characteristics in China and analyzes the changing trends and transfer path of atmospheric emission efficiency from a dynamic perspective. We conclude that (1) the overall level of atmospheric emission efficiency in China is low, and further improvement can be done; (2) there is a positive relationship between atmospheric emission efficiency and regional economic development; (3) there are obvious characteristics of unbalanced distribution and regional distribution of atmospheric emission efficiency; (4) the transfer path of atmospheric emission efficiency shows a decreasing trend year by year, which indicates that China's atmospheric environment is gradually being improved. Eastern Qinling Orogen is the largest Mo province in the world, hosting nine giant Mo deposits. Four giant Mo deposits contain economic W mineralization, while the mechanism of W mineralization remains unclear. The Yechangping deposit is a representative porphyry-skarn Mo-W deposit, with four paragenetic stages of prograde skarn, retrograde skarn, polymetallic sulfides and carbonate stage. Magmatism at Yechangping includes early barren monzogranite porphyry at 159.0 ± 1.5 Ma and late ore-related granite porphyry at ca. 145 Ma, and the latter porphyry shows a higher magmatic fractionation than the early barren monzogranite porphyry. Both barren and ore-related porphyries have similar high magma oxidation states, which may efficiently extract Mo during partial melting and hinder subsequent molybdenite crystallization until the porphyry-skarn Mo mineralization. Three types of scheelites are distinguished by their texture, paragenetic relationship and geochemistry, including Sch-1a in the retrograde skarn stage, and Sch-1b and Sch-2 in the polymetallic sulfides stage. Scheelite displays decreasing MoO 3 contents from 7.01–51.59 % in Sch-1a, through 3.15–17.51 % in Sch-1b, to 0–1.51 % in Sch-2. The decreasing MoO 3 contents in scheelite are attributed to the transformation of dominant Mo-bearing phases, i.e., from retrograde skarn stage powellite to polymetallic sulfides stage molybdenite. We suggest that the Mo-W mineralization is triggered by the decreasing oxygen fugacity, p H, and temperature, supported by thermodynamic modeling. In addition, the precipitation of fluorite and destabilization of fluorine complexes may have also promoted the Mo-W mineralization. Zircon Hf isotopes yielded ε Hf (t) values of −14.9 to −7.5 and T DM2 ages of 1671–2147 Ma, indicating that Yechangping porphyries were primarily sourced from the ancient basement of the Huaxiong Block, with additional contribution from the North Qinling Accretionary Belt. The treatment of acute herpangina is inconsistent. We aim to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of interferon α-2b spray versus Ribavirin for this disease. A randomized, controlled trial was conducted in eight hospitals in China between 2016 and 2018. 668 patients (1–7 years old) were randomized into an experimental group (treated with Interferon α-2b spray) or control group (received Ribavirin Aerosol). Body temperature returning to normal within 72 h and remaining so for 24 h was the primary outcome; release of oral herpes and adverse events were the secondary outcomes. (1) The average age of onset was 2.5 years old. (2) After 72 h treatment, body temperature of 98.5% patients in experimental group and 94.3% in control group returned to normal and remained so for 24 h (P = 0.004). The differences were greater at 48 h treatment (95.2% vs. 85.9%, P < 0.001) and at 24 h (77.5% vs. 66.5%, P = 0.001). (3) The rate of improved oral herpes in the experimental group was higher than that in control group (46.7% vs.37.1%, P = 0.011). No adverse reaction occurred. Achieving carbon neutrality is currently the most important and urgent task in the field of ecological environment for China. However, the ecosystems carbon stock dynamic, carbon sequestration potential and main driving factors in the economically developed regions of China, Jiangsu Province in recent 40 years are still unclear. Existential quantification scale and interactive human-land coupling relationship pose a great challenge to identify the carbon dynamics pattern in economically developed regions in China. In this study, we used scenarios simulation and main control factor analysis method to identify the spatiotemporal pattern of carbon dynamics in the developed Jiangsu region from 1979 to 2018, and defined and evaluated the sensitivity of different ecosystems to different environmental factors. Furthermore, we separated and quantified the individual and interactive response characteristics of carbon stocks to different environmental factors, and the results showed that Jiangsu has experienced rapid climate change (warming rate +0.5 °C/10a), and warming is a key climate factor leading to a decrease in soil organic carbon (SOC), and decreased by −30.7 g C/m2 during the study period is greater than the promotion effect of precipitation (18.7 g C/m2).Vegetation carbon (VEGC) has no significant response to temperature and precipitation. The pattern of carbon dynamic shows significant spatial heterogeneity. On the whole, there is a trend of increasing carbon storage in coastal areas and decreasing carbon storage in urban agglomeration in southern Jiangsu. The factor analysis results indicate that the CO 2 enrichment effect promotes the increase of carbon storage in different carbon reservoirs; The impact of climate change on different carbon pools mainly manifests as negative effects; The interactive effect is manifested as a positive effect, and the sensitivity of carbon stocks to the positive CO 2 fertilization effect is greater than that to climate change. In the future, attention should be paid to the impact of double superposition of temperature increase and urban heat island effect on the carbon stocks of coastal wetlands and urban forest ecosystem in southern Jiangsu. Tourmaline is a chemically and mechanically stable mineral that commonly occurs in hydrothermal mineral systems, and has been used to trace the mineralization processes of many genetic types of ore deposits. Here we apply tourmaline chemistry and isotopic composition to trace the genesis of a porphyry Mo system for the first time. Tourmaline is widespread in the Donggebi Mo deposit in East Tianshan, NW China, where it occurs in five distinct associations: type PG disseminated in the porphyritic granite, TS as hydrothermal tourmalite in the country rocks (strata), V1 in quartz-molybdenite vein, V2 in quartz-polymetallic sulfide vein, and V3 quartz-calcite-fluorite vein. All the tourmaline types belong to the alkali group, with the V3 being schorl and the other types being dravite and schorl. The PG-type tourmalines partly inherit the features of the porphyritic granite, and are rich in F, Na, Al and Sc, and poor in Fe, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Pb, V and Mo compared to the other types. They have low Fe3+ concentrations and low Fe3+/(Fe3++Fe2+) ratios, suggesting a reducing fluid system. They also display weaker Eu-depletion (with an average (Eu/Eu*) N value of 0.96) than the porphyritic granite, and are considered to be the products of interaction of the reducing fluids and the granites. The average (Eu/Eu*) N values of tourmalines decrease from 6.66 of type V1, 5.65 of type V2, to 4.80 of type V3, indicating that the fluids became progressively less reducing along with sulfide precipitation. The δ11B values of the tourmalines range between −15.9 ‰ and −12.5 ‰, resembling those of S-type granites or clastic sediment-sourced hydrothermal fluids. The tourmaline grains in our study do not display any remarkable δ11B variation from the cores to rims, indicating that the δ11B values of the fluids and their source were relatively constant. Firstly, the similarity of meteorological conditions is calculated by grey relation analysis. Then, based on the similarity, grey multivariable convolution model with new information priority accumulation (GMCN(1, N)), grey multiple linear regression (GM(0, N)) and multiple linear regression (MLR) models are established to forecast the daily concentrations of PM 2.5 and PM 10 in Shijiazhuang. • CASA model is suitable for NPP estimation in Anji. • The NPP in Moso bamboo forest is higher than that in other vegetation types. • The increase of solar radiation and temperature causes the increase in NPP. • The urbanization is the major factors associated with the decrease in NPP. Long-term and persistent human disturbances, such as the changes in land use types, have degraded the carbon fixation capacity of forest ecosystems. In Anji, China, the changes in land use types, such as the urbanization and increase of Moso bamboo forest, had changed the distribution of the broadleaf forest, needle leaf forest, and Moso bamboo forest, which in turn affected the net primary production (NPP) at the regional scale. This paper used the Carnegie-Ames-Stanford approach (CASA) model to estimate NPP in Anji during the period 1984–2014. The referenced NPP measured by eddy covariance technique was used to validate the simulated NPP, and the results show that the simulated NPP was consistent with the referenced NPP (R 2 = 0.90, p < 0.01, Root mean square error = 6 g C m−2 year−1). During the period 1984–2014, the annual NPP fluctuated from year to year, but showed a generally increasing trend of 2.99 g C m−2 year−1. The total of the mean annual NPP in Anji was 1.16 Tg C year−1, while the mean annual NPP per unit area was 613 g C m−2 year−1. The mean annual NPP per unit area for the Moso bamboo forest, broadleaf forest, needle leaf forest, and agricultural land was 739, 696, 642, and 616 g C m−2 year−1. The NPP significantly increased in more than half (57.3%) of the total area. The increase trends in solar radiation (8.1 MJ m−2 year−1) and temperature (0.01 °C year−1), and the increase of Moso bamboo forest, which increased in 13.3% of the total area, were the major factors associated with the increase in NPP. However, the NPP significantly decreased in 10.7% of the area. This was caused by the urbanization, which increased in 6.5% of the total area. Anthropogenic radionuclides deposited in sediments have been used for environmental radiation risk valuation as well as source identification. In this study, we investigated the vertical distribution of plutonium (Pu) isotopes and 240Pu/239Pu atom ratios in both floodplain and lacustrine sediments in Poyang Lake. The 239+240Pu activity concentrations in floodplain sediment cores were found to range from 0.002 to 0.085 Bq kg−1, with a maximum value at the subsurface layer. The activity in lacustrine sediment cores was from 0.062 to 0.351 Bq kg−1 with a mean of 0.138 ± 0.053 Bq kg−1. The inventory of 43.15 Bq m−2 in lacustrine sediment core is comparable to the average value of global fallout expected at the same latitude. The average 240Pu/239Pu atomic ratios (0.183 ± 0.032) for sediment cores indicated that the global fallout is the major source of Pu in the studied region. Objectives To determine the molecular characteristics and antimicrobial susceptibility of healthcare-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (HA-MRSA) in Zhejiang Province. Methods A total of 391 HA-MRSA isolates were collected from 12 hospitals in five cities of Zhejiang Province, between January 2012 and May 2013. Susceptibility to vancomycin, teicoplanin, linezolid, tigecycline, and daptomycin was determined. Resistant isolates were screened for resistance mutations. Ten isolates from each hospital were then chosen at random for molecular typing. Results The isolates showed good susceptibility to all five anti-MRSA agents; only five sporadic non-susceptible isolates were detected. CC5/ST5-MRSA-II-t311 (39/120, 32.5%) was found to be the predominant HA-MRSA clone and was spread between the different hospitals in Hangzhou. CC5/ST5-MRSA-II-t002 was the most prevalent clone in Ningbo, while CC239/ST239-MRSA was epidemic only in certain hospitals in Wenzhou and Shaoxing. Fifteen ST59 isolates (15/120, 12.5%) were identified among the HA-MRSA isolates. Conclusions CC5/ST5-MRSA-II-t311 has become the predominant HA-MRSA clone in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Ecosystem management in the face of uncertain disturbances has triggered increasing practices of resilience thinking. A multiscale probabilistic simulation-optimization framework is developed based on the nested nature of watersheds to inform decision robustness for Best Management Practices (BMPs). We presented a novel approach using hybrid Bayesian Networks (BNs) as interpretable and probabilistic emulators of process-based models. The hybrid BNs established at the scale of Hydrologic Response Units (HRUs) are embedded into simulation-optimization, whereby we analyze the cost-effectiveness-robustness of candidate BMP strategies at the subbasin scale. The optimal strategy is identified in compliance with water quality standards using watershed-scale integer programming. We apply the approaches in a typical intensively cultivated plateau watershed adjacent to Lake Dianchi, one of the three most eutrophic lakes in China. Our findings suggest that the hybrid BNs, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative information, are reliable emulators of the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) in capturing critical pathways of diffuse phosphorus. Tradeoffs among cost, effectiveness, and robustness follow the law of diminishing marginal benefits. The optimum BMP strategies vary with policymakers' preference toward robustness levels. Our findings indicate that robustness should be accounted for as an additional decision attribute besides costs and pollution mitigation. The benefits of the modeling framework are to (i) reduce over 99% computation complexity and support efficient decision-making under multifaceted uncertainties; (ii) improve interpretability and reliability of machine learning emulators; and (iii) inform policymakers of robustness with the probability of water quality restoration success. In this study, we evaluated the ceftobiprole (BPR) susceptibilities of 472 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates, and investigated the mechanisms underlying BPR resistance. For all MRSA isolates, BPR MIC was determined by agar dilution. We sequenced the BPR-resistant isolates through Illumina short- and MinION long-read sequencing. We also selected MRSA isolates of ST5, ST59, and ST239, and exposed them to increasing BRP concentrations. The isolated mutants developing BPR resistance were sequenced. A total of 471 MRSA isolates were susceptible to BPR, with MICs ranging from 0.25 to 2 mg/L. Compared with HA-MRSA isolates (MIC 50 = 2 mg/L; MIC 90 = 2 mg/L), CA-MRSA isolates (MIC 50 = 0.5; MIC 90 = 2 mg/L) were more susceptible to BPR (p < 0.001). Compared with isolates with staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCC mec) type II or III (MIC 50 = 2 mg/L; MIC 90 = 2 mg/L), isolates with SCC mec type IV (MIC 50 = 1 mg/L; MIC 90 = 1 mg/L) or V (MIC 50 = 0.5 mg/L; MIC 90 = 1 mg/L) were more susceptible to BPR (p < 0.001). Nanopore sequencing revealed two copies of SCC mec repeats in the BPR-resistant MRSA isolate. In addition, SCC mec amplification could be induced by BPR exposure in ST239 MRSA isolates; however, no amplification was observed in the other lineages. The induced BPR-resistant MRSA isolates also acquired mutations in mecA and other genes, such as guaA, guaB, relA, rpoA , and oatA , which were speculated as factors contributing to BPR-resistance development. BPR showed significant antibacterial activity against MRSA isolates in China; however, the emergence of a BPR-resistant isolate before its launch was a cause for concern. Multiple genes and pathways are potentially involved in the development of BPR resistance in MRSA, and our data demonstrated the role of nanopore-sequencing in revealing the tandem repeat-mediated resistance mechanism in MRSA. The rapid economic development in the Yangtze River Delta has affected the carbon (C) pool in lake sediments, which has become a serious environmental management issue. To explore the characteristics of composition, spatial distribution and burial of organic C (OC) in lacustrine sediments, a typical shallow lake was targeted to compare the heavy fraction OC (HFOC), light fraction OC (LFOC), and dissolved OC (DOC) in the surface sediments of different lake areas using the specific gravity separation approach. The effects of environmental factors on the form of OC present were identified by a redundancy analysis. The results showed a regional difference of DOC, LFOC, and HFOC concentrations in Taihu Lake, and HFOC was dominant in the OC buried in lake sediments. The deposition rate of OC in Taihu Lake sediments varied in a ranged of 31.91–114.47 g C m−2 a-1. The LFOC levels in the sediments were lower than those in other lakes. Both sedimentary LFOC and HFOC were significantly correlated with the nitrogen (N) content, indicating that the C sink was enhanced by an increase in N in the sediments. The Qinling Orogen is well known for its huge Mo resource. The porphyry Mo deposits are associated with small granite porphyries, albeit great batholiths accommodate limited Mo mineralization. In this study, detailed geochemical, isotopic, and geochronological studies were carried out to constrain the petrogenesis of the Taishanmiao batholith and time framework of magmatism and associated Mo mineralization at Zhuyuangou. Zircon geochronology reveals gradually decreasing emplacement ages, from 124.8 ± 1.0 Ma for the medium- to coarse-grained syenogranite, through 122.8 ± 1.4 Ma for fine- to medium-grained syenogranite, to 115.1 ± 0.95 Ma for porphyritic syenogranite. The last two phases hosted the Zhuyuangou Mo mineralization with a molybdenite Re-Os isochron age of 117.7 ± 1.0 Ma. Major and trace element features support highly fractionated I-type affinity for Taishanmiao. Zircon Lu-Hf isotopic studies yield ε Hf (t) values of −19.6 − -8, and two-stage Hf model ages (T DM2) of 1679–2408 Ma. It thus supports ancient continental crust, especially Taihua Supergroup and Xiong'er Group, as the primary source. Compared to the source rock, the low Mo concentrations of the batholith are attributed to the massive fluid flux that contributes to the formation of the Zhuyuangou and Donggou deposits. Small porphyries can effectively concentrate exsolved fluids and metal compared with great batholith. Their shallow emplacement depths result in greater temperature/pressure/composition gradient with the wall rocks, higher cooling rate, more fractures or even breccia, and fluid boiling and mixing, facilitating intensive hydrothermal alteration and mineralization. Abstract: Renal hypouricemia (RHUC), as an infrequent hereditary disease, is associated with severe complications such as exercise-induced acute renal failure (EIARF). Loss-of-function mutations in urate transporter gene URAT1 (Type 1) and in glucose transporter gene GLUT9 (Type 2) are major causes of this disorder. In this study, URAT1 and GLUT9 were screened in two uncorrelated families from mainland China and a total of five mutations were identified in exons, including two novel heterozygous URAT1 mutations. In four members of the first family, c.151delG (p.A51fsX64) in exon 1 was detected, which resulted in a frameshift and truncated the original 553-residue-protein to 63 amino acid protein. A missense mutation c.C1546A (p.P516T) in exon 9 in GLUT9 was revealed in the second family, which caused a functional protein substitution at codon 516. These two novel mutations were neither identified in the subsequent scanning of 200 ethnically matched healthy control subjects with normal serum UA level nor in a 1000 genome project database. Thus our report identifies two novel loss-of-function mutations (c.151delG in URAT1 and p.P516T in GLUT9) which cause RHUC and renal dysfunction in two independent RHUC pedigrees. Abstract: Molecular compositions and size distributions of water-soluble organic compounds (WSOC, i.e., sugars, sugar-alcohols and carboxylic acids) in particles from urban air of Nanjing, China during a severe haze event caused by field burning of wheat straw were characterized and compared with those in the summer and autumn non-haze periods. During the haze event levoglucosan (4030 ng m−3) was the most abundant compound among the measured WSOC, followed by succinic acid, malic acid, glycerol, arabitol and glucose, being different from those in the non-haze samples, in which sucrose or azelaic acid showed a second highest concentration, although levoglucosan was the highest. The measured WSOC in the haze event were 2–20 times more than those in the non-hazy days. Size distribution results showed that there was no significant change in the compound peaks in coarse mode (>2.1 μm) with respect to the haze and non-haze samples, but a large difference in the fine fraction (<2.1 μm) was found with a sharp increase during the hazy days mostly due to the increased emissions of wheat straw burning. Molecular compositions of organic compounds in the fresh smoke particles from wheat straw burning demonstrate that sharply increased concentrations of glycerol and succinic and malic acids in the fine particles during the haze event were mainly derived from the field burning of wheat straw, although the sources of glucose and related sugar-alcohols whose concentrations significantly increased in the fine haze samples are unclear. Compared to that in the fresh smoke particles of wheat straw burning an increase in relative abundance of succinic acid to levoglucosan during the haze event suggests a significant production of secondary organic aerosols during transport of the smoke plumes. Qing-Chang-Hua-Shi (QCHS) is a Chinese herbal formula, which is composed of 11 herbs. Studies have also shown that QCHS granules can alleviate colitis in animal models by preventing inflammatory responses and suppressing apoptosis through the MEK/ERK signaling pathway. To determine the efficacy and safety of QCHS granules in patients with moderately active UC. We performed a multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study of patients with moderately active UC who did not respond to 4 weeks of mesalazine therapy at the maximum dose. Patients were randomly assigned to groups and administered QCHS granules (125 g/day, n = 59) or an identical placebo, which was similar to the QCHS granules in color and taste (125 g/day, n = 60), with continued 5-ASA 4 g/d therapy for 12 weeks. The primary outcome was the rate of clinical response and clinical remission at week 12. The secondary outcomes were health-related quality of life, endoscopic response rate, and mucosal healing rate. Any changes in mucus/bloody stool and diarrhea were recorded. Out of the 119 enrolled patients at 10 different centers in China, 102 patients completed the trial. Clinical remission and clinical response were seen in 31.48% and 92.59% of QCHS-treated patients, and 12.50% and 72.92% of placebo-treated patients, respectively. There was a significant difference between the two treatment groups. More patients receiving QCHS granules vs. placebo achieved remission of mucus/bloody stool (70.37% vs. 47.92%, P = 0.0361). Adverse event rates were similar (QCHS granules 38.33%; placebo 25.42%). In conclusion, QCHS granules were superior to the placebo in introducing clinical remission and mucosal healing, as well as in relieving mucus/blood stool in patients with moderately active and 5-ASA-refractory UC. Over the past decade, there has been an unprecedented growth in the development of green building projects in China. Using a unique cross-sectional database compiled from multiple sources, this study employs a Negative Binomial regression model to analyze the determinants of local green building development in 282 municipalities, with a focus on local policy and design standards. We present evidence that geographical location, local fiscal revenue, and real estate investment are strong predictors of green building counts. In terms of policy effectiveness, the results indicate that both mandatory regulations and incentive-based policies contribute to increasing the adoption of green buildings; nevertheless, mandatory regulations have a stronger effect on green building development than incentive policies.
